AmazinqCutie The landlord was already in the eviction process which means Amanda already scammed them out of money. Now that Amanda is out they have to rent the place. If the current people can’t pay because they were scammed too, why should the landlord take another hit? You forget that the landlord has a mortgage, property taxes, water bills, hydro, insurance etc... every month on the place. Why not you invite the victims to live at your place for a few months free?
This happened to a friend of mine a similar story! One man was squatting a house and for 6 months charged rent! He pocketed all the rent money from 5 tenants, while living there charging 500 a piece! When the cops came they evicted everyone! I’ve seen it before, and I’m sure I’ll see it again! As long as renting is crazy in parts of the country there will be people scamming others for rent or lease money! Sad but true!
The judge said he couldn't do anything for them because they are not on the lease. Well, she had receipts proving that she paid all that money for rent. The least he could've done is either demand that she get reimbursed or x-amount of time in jail, if not both. For that amount of money, that would be grand theft. The judge could've gone after Amanda for that. Warrant for her arrest and take it from there.
The woman who got scammed should have just refused to leave. After 30 days they'd get rental rights regardless, and then if she's paying rent there's no issue.
Why kick her out when it’s clear that she was scammed? People are heartless.
AmazinqCutie Exactly
AmazinqCutie it's buisness, why should the landlord lose money?

When I was a renter, I ALWAYS checked to see who ACTULLY OWNED a Property I was preparing to rent. I'm from NY and seen too many scams in My life.
Always call the tax assessors office with the county to see who owns the property.
I hope & pray they got help. Heartbreaking! I believe in KARMA!
