    Best tutorial and review on Ravin crossbow that I’ve seen. Im new to the crossbow world having bow hunting with bow only for 38 years. I just bought an Elite Era compound but wanted to start phasing into crossbow and I also have grandchildren that are ready to hunt. I pulled the trigger on the 29X Sniper. Thanks for the great video!

    I agree with you on the muzzy crossbow broadhead they are excellent and have field point accuracy . I just started using a crossbow and got the ravin r29 sniper and last week I shot and Axis deer at 40 yards complete pass through and the broadhead was in prefect shape no damage just had to clean it. great review thank you

      Beware of Ravins trigger carrier worm gears & the string jumping the camber. I bought the electric drive R500E and the worm gears collapsed upon discharging using the electric motor. Ravin sent a new replacement bow, this time, the string jumped the camber. This hunting season has had its setbacks due to Ravins R500E. I did harvest two doe with the R500 and really enjoyed the bow when it functioned as advertised. For the price point, I feel two malfunctions is a huge red flag and it is time to make a change. Now Ravin is offering a swap for this R29X as I am requesting an alternative route over another replacement or service to fix it. I hope all goes well for you.. Just wanted to share my experience so others are aware and understand it is not just their R500 that may have the same issues. Seems to be common problems with the R500 model.

    I had both, still have the R29X. My R29 shot about 430 fps while my R29X shoots 454 fps. The R29X was always 20+ fps faster than my R29.

    I love mine. Only thing is buy zombie slayers, get rid of the ravin bushings and install the Firenock system.. the Ravin lighted nocks are terrible and in my opinion dangerous.

      thanks for watching! tell me, what problems have you had with the ravin nocks? ive never had a problem

    • @MrBowmanmt
      @MrBowmanmt 9 місяців тому

      @@Horn_n_Fin_OutdoorsI tried using their lighted nocks for almost 2 years I actually called the company and they realized there was a problem with them turning off so then I called the owner of luminock who makes the light at nock for Raven and he said he also knew of the problem but that was a tolerance is that Raven wanted. You're very lucky not to have any issues but if you go to let's say crossbow nation and go to the Ravens section. You're going to see nothing but issues with people trying to turn them off and believe me I've tried every gadget out there to turn it off and then what happens is you start man handling it and then you make the the knock brittle and I actually had one exploded in my ground blind and almost took an eye out. Anyways I'm glad you've had success with them but the majority of people do not

      Everyone says Ravins lighted arrows suck, but mine light up every time and turn off fairly easy and shoot same holes?

    • @MrBowmanmt
      @MrBowmanmt 5 місяців тому

      I've had many people ask me why I'm so against the Ravin lighted nocks.
      I tried them for 2 years on my 29x and I've had nothing but trouble and at one point serious trouble with them, especially them breaking and turning them off.
      I think part of the breaking of the nock is the man handling of trying to turn them off.
      First I contacted Ravin and talked to two different gentleman that said they knew of the problem and they were trying to figure it out.
      Keep in mind I've been using crossbows for 20 years and lighted nocks, I primarily used Firenock but at times have used the Luminock system.
      Knowing that Ravin contracts Luminock to make their lighted nocks , I took it upon myself to talk to the owner of Luminock.
      He definitely understood what I was talking about and basically said that that was the specs that Ravin wanted him to build them at.
      Raven wants those nocks super tight on the bushing because as we all know they snap on quite hard on a string especially a new string and serving.
      And the last thing they want is for that nock to come out of the bushing.
      I have used special pliers that I've actually made, I've used rubber tubing, I've used everything under the sun and still nothing but issues turning off the nock.
      Last year I was in a ground blind with a doctor friend of mine and he took a shot and the arrow went flying off course and there was a huge loud noise. Yep you guessed it, the nock broke and the string and cable came flying off. Thankfully no one got hurt and the limbs and cams were still okay.
      Keep in mind if you go on Crossbow Nation which is one of the largest crossbow sites out there, you'll see not just myself but many many Ravin users with the same issue.
      At that point I said heck with the warranty issues. My safety is more important than the warranty on my bow.
      I'm going to go with a lighted nock that's no doubt the most expensive but also the most reliable. Firenock system.
      The only caveat I have to say about using the Firenock is make sure you use it on a brand new string or at least a brand new serving.
      As you know the Ravin nock will leave a certain indentation on the serving, for the Firenock "U" nock to work It needs to set its own indentation on the serving.
      For those of you that don't have any issues with the Ravin lighted nocks all I could say is you have a horseshoe up your you know what 😂

      Ive been crossbow hunting twenty years also and bow hunting for over 30 yrs and in my opinion ravin nocks are no different than any others ive used, actually ive never really had a problem with any of them, but that must be the horseshoe in my azz

    I have a new ravin and i think i sighted it in wrong.I went from 20 to 40 and it shoots great at 40.I skipped the 50 so should i start all over again or go to 50 and get dialed in for 50?.I already did the 40.Not sure what makes most sense, I'm new to crissbow.Thank you!.

    • @Horn_n_Fin_Outdoors
      @Horn_n_Fin_Outdoors  8 місяців тому +1

      you should definitely start over from the beginning. shoot 20 yds, then 50 yds and adjust the scope reticle. then move to 40 yds and adjust the arrow speed dial on the scope to fine tune the arrow at 40. you have to follow the steps correctly, or you will have problems.

    NEVER shoot at the same spot with more than one arrow.
    That gets expensive having arrows contact each other.
    You need a SOLID rest to sight in from….a tree stump isn’t steady enough.
