Hi, friend. I hope you succeed on your journey to kicking alcohol. I'm 21 months sober. Started drinking when I was 16 and finally decided to quit when I was 31. It's definitely been a journey but well worth it. I wish you the best.

I quit alcohol. I had to ask my roommate to move out because he didnt want to stop drinking and I wasnt strong enough to quit when he was drinking around me. I quit cold turkey. It was hard for about a month, and it got easier and easier. The biggest deterrent for me to find an excuse to drink again is I just didnt want to be that person anymore. Its been almost 2 years I've been sober. Coincidentally, I stopped vaping at the same time. Somehow with the grace of God, I was able to quit 2 major things together.

I thought I couldn't stop, that the people who could had something special about them. I did this too and before I got really bad I would use a shot gun glass of wine or beer to get through stressful situations but it eventually got to where I had to keep going and going and going so I finally got sober. I'm attempting a few months off. I'm 36. I read that if you take at least one month off, you are less likely to continue drinking as much as you used to if you pick it up again. Prof Peterson also said that if you are looking to quit alcohol, you should find something better to replace it. I've yet to find that. I've been enjoying hikes/walks lately but they're not as fun as tanking up. I guess it's just one day at a time, keeping the future and my health in mind. Good luck.

I think a great place to start is by talking to your doctor. Don't feel ashamed. We all do stupid and hurtful things while drinking. But, there are medical consequences to drinking. You might need to taper off or have a medically supervised detox. Plus, there are effects on your liver, heart, and brain. Alcohol use should be as important to your doctor as your blood pressure, diet, and exercise. Hopefully, your doctor can help you figure out the next steps. Good luck!

Appreciate the comment and well done on lessening the drink and taking the time to care for yourself. Loneliness is a difficult issue to deal with and as you say, finding someone you trust is important. I would encourage you to keep reaching out, maybe to a local mental health community and see if there are any groups in your area. Take the step out and see if you can connect with people with like minded interests. Its a brave step to take, but eventually it will bring a positive result not only yourself, but those that you interact with and will enjoy your company. Remember. You have to be out there to really connect with someone. Take care of yourself and keep working on yourself. :) ua-cam.com/video/mRVELBc5xGA/v-deo.html

The best advice I can give you is to go to an AA-meeting, or at least call them. I am a newcomer myself, but I have realized that I am powerless against alcohol. I've tried to change the way I drink a thousand times, I know now that I am not capable of doing this myself. I need to go to the meetings, call my AA-buddies whenever I feel that I'm in a pinch. There is no judgement, and trust me whatever you've been through, they've been there too and will always support your journey towarda sobriety. ❤

Im super nervous, I have had a tough job for 25 years now and I'm thinking about work every second of my life, even when doing sports (walking 20k, running). Not in a suffering manner, its more "and if I do this this way, and if I do that, tomorrow I need to close this and that" etc. I never stop thinking except after my first pint. Not only do I stop thinking but I also feel much better (no more back pain). It also makes me much nicer with people around because I'm relaxed and happy, I stop behaving like the cartoon Tasmanian devil making everybidy nervous. But the day after I'm feeling totally depressed so I try not to repeat this more than 3 times a week (which is already a lot). It's a drug, it's a real drug, it kills you, slowly. Stay away from it as much as you can. If you can't, get help (I'm monitored now and my consumption is 1/3 it was 2 years ago, although I'm not clean yet).

I think it mainly comes down to how much of an emotional person he is, and how unhinged some of his fanboys can get. Those two things make it easy for people who are broadly opposed to the side of the culture wars he represents to paint him as a villain amongst their own. Personally, I like imperfect, romantic, even quixotic figures like Peterson who really seem to care about the state of humanity. I believe Dr. Peterson is both an intelligent and well-meaning man. At the same time, I recognize he has a depressive, melancholic personality which lends itself to impolitic emotional outbursts, something which seems to have been compounded by a somewhat tough upbringing and the terrible illnesses of the two people his type of man would naturally fret over the most (wife and daughter). Then you have people who treat him as messianic figure, people who tend to have far more extreme views than the professor does, who virulently decry any critique of him -- albeit not his fault, these followers do not help his image.

The hate didn’t start until he stood firm against the LGBTQ push on the use of pronouns, when Canada was looking at passing legislation. As with all the cancellation, they then hate everything the person says afterward.

I guess kratom might be okay from a harm reduction standpoint, but if you're an actual alcoholic you most likely will go on with Kratom much like the alcohol. Ask me how I know. Im an adict through and through. I have tried the using drugs to get off drugs thing more than once. Getting off drugs has been the only effective method for me. Good luck

Well said. "The phrase "an empty vessel makes much noise" means that people who are not knowledgeable or do not have much substance tend to talk a lot in order to compensate for their lack of depth or substance. It is often used to refer to people who are loud and talkative but do not have anything meaningful to say"
