    Thanks man! You saved me over $600. Camera went bad on 2016 F-150. Dealership wanted over $1000 to fix. Bought the camera online for half of Ford's price and then installed it in 10 minutes using your video. Bought the USB ODB II for $20 and calibrated the new camera using your instructions. The process of downloading the software and getting a license was a little laborious, but when it came time to connect to the truck and calibrate, again it took 10 minutes. So, the dealer wanted $1000 for 20 minutes of work...ridiculous!

    Great video worked! Few tips! USB ODB is correct but my switch was wrong direction from instructions. When loading if ATC comes with an error, then the switch is in wrong direction for HS MS flip switch it’s in wrong spot. Also when it starting up and it wants to load the previous saved F150 say no. Your loading same file which is missing most modules like FCDIM. Finally when you write all it will say successful under log, but I had to press stop button before disconnecting. You need forscan extended to do changes. Btw 5 ford dealership in my area said it’s not possible. I was just replacing damaged OEM screen with stock camera. They said it was plug and play. Well ford has about 40 screens for same gen F150. Go bite a big one ford!

    Thank you for putting this video up and also the link to wire from tailgate to hood. I saved hundreds of dollars and did it myself. Amateur tip, when wiring from back of tailgate to the front of truck remove the spare tire. I could actually sit under the truck while pinning the five new wires onto the connector. I work slow so this was nice.

    GREAT INFORMATION. I just installed an electric braking system on my F 150 but got very little help from the parts dept at the dealer. Back up camera is next. Your video will make it much easier and massively shorten the time frame. Dp youknow what the wiring harness behind the coin holder on the dash is for. Thanks, again.

    I really appreciate the very detailed video. I purchased the aftermarket camera, harness, and latch assembly for my Ford 2017 F150. I installed the hardware following your step-by-step directions. I used Forscan to change the code (7A5-01-01) from 2029 to 2229. Selected "Write All" in Forscan. Turned the truck off and on. I thought I was all set. Nope! When I go into reverse, there is a pause on my 4" screen, then it says "REAR VIEW CAMERA NOT AVAILABLE". The truck senses that there is a camera present as it shows up in the Menu. I have retraced my steps in Forscan and checked all the harness connections. I am unsure how to move forward! I would appreciate any help or feedback to solve my issue! Thank you in advance!!!

      Hi Michael, I am having the same problem and I'm pretty sure it's because the rear wiring connector only has 2 wires and I will need to run wires from the rear to the front as described in the PDF. I do not feel comfortable doing this myself so I am looking for more resources or a good place nearby.

    I tried reading your "The Ultimate XL Backup Camera Install Guide," which of course, is NOT informative, but is really Ultimate Unintelligible Gibberish. When I read a manual, such as yours, I cannot help but thinking, "Was it too much crack, or not enough?" Half-explained procedures, undefined parts, wires, slots, with a few nice pictures thrown in that tell little. But it's "Ultimate" so it must be good, right! I bought the stupid camera, and I need to figure out how to run wires to the front. I'm drowning here, and you're throwing me an anchor. Great job!

    Hello Make Stuff Nation,
    I watched your video and it is great on how to install and program the backup camera. I own a 2015 F-150 XLT Super Crew Truck and have watched several videos where a factory camera was installed in the tailgate, wires were run up the drivers side of the truck into the cab, uninstalled the screen, installed a special RCA plug and reassemble everything. Can you tell me where to look on my truck so I can decide which option I will need to perform to install a backup camera??? I look forward hearing from you soon. Thanks

    Awesome video, but before you go and buy parts make sure your truck is wired for camera. If the wire harness mentioned in minute 5:50 only has two wires coming from the main wire harness, your truck is NOT wired. Don't even bother! I learned this the hard way.

I pull up the forscan, plug it up, turn my key to on, and hit connect on forscan. Nothing this is on a 2017 F-150. I changed the APIM for nav features. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not, but it just will not connect.

      I'm the author of the FORScan tutorial & spreadsheets referenced above. What adapter are you using? If you're using the correct adapter that can access the MS-CAN modules as well as the HS-CAN modules and it has a toggle switch on it then try the following:
      1. go into FORScan settings, connection tab and change "MS-CAN Support" to "HS/MS Switch"
      2. connect to your truck again in FORScan but click no when it brings up your VIN profile
      3. it should then find a few modules and then prompt you to flip the toggle switch on your adapter and find the rest of the modules
      4. if it finds all modules then you can save this new VIN profile and use it on all subsequent connection attempts.

      JW
      726-39-02 (all configurations) The value in the sixth place tells the BCM that a camera exists (0 for no, 1 for yes). This gets your dynamic lines and zoom working.
      7A5-01-01 (4.2" screen only) The value in the second place tells the FCDIM that a camera exists (0 for no, 2 for yes).
      7D0-01-01 (8" screen only) The value in the second place tells the APIM that a camera exists (0 for no, 2 for yes, A for yes w/obstacle detection)
      To summarize: If you have the 8" screen, you need to change values in 726-39-02 and 7D0-01-01. If you have the 4.2" screen, you need to change values in 726-39-02 and 7A5-01-01.

      Yes, I was able to get them working, use these steps (steps 3 & 4 turn on the lines specifically):
      1: Connect ForScan, follow the prompts when connecting.
      2: Under the FCDIM module, on the 7A5-01-01 line/field, change the 2nd digit from a "0" to a "2". Save/write the change (follow the prompts). (this activates the camera)
      3: Under the BCM module, on the 726-39-02 line/field, change the 6th digit to a "1". Save/write the change (follow the prompts).
      4: Click the wrench icon and run "LIN New Module Calibration". This makes the truck recognize the changes and calibrate the modules (follow the prompts).
      5: Disconnect ForScan

      Yes, it should work. You just have to confirm that the additional camera wires are run from the front wire harness to the back harness plug. The guide in the description shows how to identify these wires and how to install them if they're not already there.

    Changed my 15 tailgate to a 18 tailgate like the F150 detent in the tailgate. Everything was a bolt in swap (linkage) except for the handle ... then found out it has a different camera. Got all that changed and backup camera works but lost my guide lines. Plugged in the old camera and guidelines came back and was square even though the camera was dangling. Like you trying to figure out how to bring the guidelines back on the new camera I found this on the Forscan site but do not know the sequence to cycle the key. If you figure it out I would appreciate it!

    I was able to fix my rear camera on my 2016 F250. My tailgate was stolen and after I replaced the rear camera with a new one the fixed and moving guide lines were missing. I was also unbale to zoom in. The DTC i had stored was B115E:55-0A. After i connected with OBDLink EX (usb to OBDII) I ran Forscan. Under the wrench icon I selected “Local Interconnect Network New Module Calibration” under BdyCM. After it ran I cycled the key to off and back to on as instructed. Both fixed and moving guide lines are now present and the zoom function is now working. Hope this helps.

      this activates the camera right? not just the "backup lines"

      1. In Forscan, edit 726-39-02 in the BCM, place a 1 in the 6th digit, and apply the change. This setting tells the BCM that a rear camera exists. It is on Livnitup's spreadsheet as "Slave Exists RVC"

      Okay, that part is to turn on the backup lines if the camera is already activated. Here are steps to activate the camera and then turn on backup lines:

      2: Under the FCDIM module, on the 7A5-01-01 line/field, change the 2nd digit from a "0" to a "2". Save/write the change (follow the prompts). (this activates the camera)
      3: Under the BCM module, on the 726-39-02 line/field, change the 6th digit to a "1". Save/write the change (follow the prompts).

      It is not a yellow video input, this wires directly into the Ford sync harness.

    great video and nice camera work. Do you think those parts you listed in the description would also work for a 2016 xlt 4x4

      Mike Osvold I think the parts should be the same for 2015-2017 but I can't guarantee.

      gtdave86 no I didn't. I will look more into it in October when it's not 109 degrees in my garage.

    Where can l download forscan software? Thanks

  • @赵崇敬
    @赵崇敬 6 років тому

    Just install the camera on 2017 f150 xlt. Can’t find step 4 “LIN new module calibration”. ( is the forscan version different from yours?) The screen has no image, only show “rear view camera not available”. Do you think is cause by the hardware or software.

      I, too have my screen saying “rear view camera not available”. Did you find a fix? Has anyone else ran into this?

    • @赵崇敬
      @赵崇敬 6 років тому

      Jason Deptawa oh. My truck was not prewired. I follow the guide to ran wire to the engine bay.

    • @eatinpie172
      @eatinpie172 6 років тому

      Same here - I had to run the wires also to the engine bay. Did you get the message to go away? After wiring I’m still getting the error message

    • @赵崇敬
      @赵崇敬 6 років тому

      Jason Deptawa yes. It fixed. It show image immediately after I ran the wire. Then I activated the line. I think the problem is the wire or camera.

      No, I believe the wire harness for a tailgate with the light has a different part number.

      I believe so. The wiring from then engine bay back and ForScan settings should be the same.

    Great video for the do it yourselfers! The only problem I see is the connection via computer to the factory screen. So, I researched both obd units online.....quite affordable, do you need both units to complete the install? Also, you need a license for the fourscan in order to complete installation, if so, I haven't researched the cost of a license yet. Is there another alternative other than a visit to Ford for the computer connection connection??????

    • @MakeStuffNation
      @MakeStuffNation  3 роки тому +1

      The Forescan licence is (or was) free if you sign up/join their forum. As far as the OBD units, you should only need one as long as it has the switch to change between the 2 modes (should be a link to one in the video description).
