What I really appreciate about this review is that you don’t ignore the “bigger” retro gaming UA-camrs, openly reference their videos and instead add you pent point of view to them

Awesome first look at what appears to be, by all accounts I've seen so far, an amazing device. I really dig the looks of this unit and I'm happy they didn't adopt the DMG-style asymmetry that so many other verticals, including Anbernic's own RG40XX-V, on the market do.
One benefit of being late to the party is that I don't have to wait for Part2. It's already up. I guess I'll watch your full review next.
So sick! Video quality is amazing as well.
Thank you my dude
Great video, Todd man!
@@retrohandhelds thanks ! Stubbs?
@@ToddTronics yessir!
Ordered mine on the day it was launched and I can't wait for it to show up :D
@@BinauralBae heck yeah ! I’m gonna be setting up emulation station desktop edition later today
Was wondering when you’d start making vids! Heck yea
it was scary making the change but i gotta start or it will never happen.... so here we are
nice to hear anbernic finally stepping up their stick game. my one and only caveat with the rg556
@@Ayzide yeah it was nice that they actually took feedback
Solid review 👍
Great video bud
@@tgwiff7 thanks man ! I appreciate the feedback
You were made for this. Keep it up 🫡
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE brother this means so much to me especially coming from you !!! Hope you and the fam are great !
Where you buy it please lmk
Man I can’t wait for them to give us the horizontal version. Nice little first look. I will say god of war on psp runs at 3x on my older rg 405m with the t-618 chip so this thing can do way more than that I would think.
@@turnbasedtoddy7664 there’s already been leaked cad files for a horizontal one it kinda looks like a rp mini with bigger screen but I’m sure I’ll get a review unit of that also
Can you make a video showing how to add games?
Man I can hear that 15khz whine of the CRT in the background
Awesome review. I have a question however, I had the 405V & ended up returning it because the display had this low quality “holographicky” screen at certain viewing angles. I’m not sure how to explain what I mean. I was wondering if the new 406V has that same issue or if they upgraded it to a nice hd screen now. Nobody seems to mention the differences.
@@OfficialVngel nope the screen inside on this one 720p and no fake sharpness filter!!
@@ToddTronics Thanks!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The rg556 is still king
@@mackw919 it’s amazing !! I just wish we had these thumb sticks and a better dpad
Really helpful video thanks! Does this console come with games pre-loaded?
@@greghalley I can’t say for sure mine did not come with anything on it but the applications I’d check their website this is an engineering sample pre release
It can. If you buy directly from anbenic they sell preloaded cards with the handheld.
The one I purchased has 128gb of games allegedly. Used eBay instead of dealing with Ali express.
I got the 256gb one straight from anbernics website but won't receive it for a few weeks as it's a Chinese holiday. Can someone tell me if it does come with games pre-installed 🎮 🤔 thank you
@@aqua_Laura Yes mine arrived and it has a handful of games for 29 different systems on the card. Apparently the device has 128 gigs of storage that is almost unused too. I assume you will receive much fuller ROM sets with the 256g card.
Can you change the colors of the sticks, or is it always rotating rainbow?
Multiple modes and can change to any color
@@simplysuperc yes you can change the colors to any color and there is multiple lighting patterns you can also turn them straight up off or change the brightness all that will be in my full review
I'm so disappointed with these T820 chipset Anbernic devices. Despite having display out through USB C, they don't have the power necessary to run AR glasses like Xreal, Rokid. You need a hub and external power which defeats the purpose while traveling.
sheesh at first I thought you were skinny pete
Is that simpsons game on it out the box?
I have no clue mine was an engineer sample it didn’t come with anything on it
Horizontal please !
@@shameblame4865 look up the rg556
How to buy anbernic 406v . I can't looking in Amazon?
@@Xdrake-m3p id get it from their website directly or AliExpress cross check for the best price
Their site directly has them, anbernic that is.
@@6mazing thank you I thought I already replied
All that matters to me is that it can run ps2 games without a problem .
@@therabidpancake1 it can run I’d say 90% of games I’ve found that some need for speed games can struggle but most of the big hit games run amazing and upscaled
@@ToddTronics We are talking about ps2 right ?
@@therabidpancake1 yes
Ngl, u kinda look like and sound like a dollar tree Idubbz. No disrespect, I just thought the similarities are striking
Terrible analog placement
The Rg406v looks nice and all but its not worth it for me. I decided to stop buying this cheap consoles... In the next year (2025) they will release the Rg407V and the next year to that they will release the Rg408V and so on (isn't that the trend?)... Maybe you wont buy every itteration of them, but, in the long run you'll end up spending a lot more money just by upgrading to the next new model, relative to just buying a high end performance console, like the Steam Deck or an Odin 🤷 By having an Odin or a Deck basically every emulation problem is solved! Maybe some of you will argue about portability, pricing and what not, but in the long run, the manufacturers know this and hook you up with this pocket consoles, and they get you to spend a lot more money than just buying a high performance console. When it comes to the Anbernic or Retroid Pocket, manufacturers make very little, subtle and minimum tweaks to it, just the right amount of changes for you to re-buy the same damn console you bought the year before but this time with extra lights and whistles, until a new one comes next year and so on...... I had the Rg353V, then I had a Retroid Pocket and then replaced it for the Rg405v expecting to put an end once and for all to the spiral spending in emulation consoles... But here we go again, and they released a newer console, the rg406v, which can emulate more gamecube, wii and Ps2 games than before (but not all of them apparently hmm) and etc etc.. So I recently decided to sell the Rg405v and replace it for the Ayn Odin 2 Pro ($390), which can run almost anything up to N.Switch.
@@AngryMiddleAgedMan that’s a valid take I won’t argue here. However an important thing to remember is this doesn’t cost anymore than than the 405v did at launch so a positive take is that if someone is new to the market in one years time you get a massively better product for the same price , and that’s commendable. I have a steam deck and I use the small handheld like this to play quick run games when I’m on the go, but personally I don’t think the 405v was never a great value for for the money but this one is a contender to give people a great value for its price
Skittles colored button is ugly.
@@machinewaves I don’t love it but I don’t hate it I think white on white would have been the better choice
I went with black. That screen is what im most excited for...
im looking forward to the grey one with the snes look i have enough clear black anbernics hahaha
Those joysticks are horrendous
