11:00 I'd argue you haven't even "cleared the lot of trees". I'd say you've just located the lot after graduating academy. You clear the lot of trees throughout your first weeks on.

I’ve just graduated the police academy almost 2 months ago. I can give you one tip on how to pass it.. NEVER GIVE UP. There will be times you may think “I can’t do this” but really it’s all a mind game. I can definitely say I never knew what I was getting myself into before I started. Your physical fitness means a lot, but knowing your laws mean even more. Study every single week and workout for at least 4 times a week.

    • @bfry38
      @bfry38 2 роки тому +32

40 push-ups isn’t nothing, you got this! Eat right, do as many push ups as you can regular and then do them on your knees until you get stronger. Most academies here in Ohio are 6 months. I’m sure it varies what state you’re in and what city you go through. Don’t do push-ups everyday. Do them Atleast every other day. I was in the Marines and I’m a certified personal trainer. The reason I say every other day Atleast is because when you workout all you’re doing is breaking down your muscles. That’s why after a workout you should eat, or have whey protein. Whey protein is fast acting and gets into your body faster. Start working out. Don’t aim to just get by. If you have to do 40 push ups make sure you can do atleast 50 plus. 1.5 run make sure you can do 2-2.5 miles. Always aim for more and when it’s time it will be a breeze. In H.S I used to run 100 yard sprints then when it came to doing our 40 time it was easy. Best of luck to you, if you need anything let me know. I’m not a Police, but I have did Security, Corrections, and served papers for the County. I was Infantry in the Marines so as far as laws I can’t help you lol, but working out I got you lol

    • @HarambetheWhite

@Crimson Dynamo depends on the state. In my state of Wisconsin. There are 4 phase tests with 100 plus multiple choice questions. The tests are on the computer. After the tests are completed it tells you your score. You need a 70 percent to pass. The tests weren't bad generally two of the possible answers you can eliminate based on common sense. I never studied once and the lowest grade I got on a test was an 89 percent.

      Here is a better idea...
Keep pushing yourself and let those who act "badass" and think they that they are all that quit first. Same goes for the military. For example, my dad would tell me that those who would quit first were the ones who were bullies in high school and football players.

    More advise,
-When and if, you receive an academy handbook/guide read it, highlight important rules, dates, etc. It's your bible!
-Learn how to study effectively (powerpoints, index cards, etc).
-Don't be late, show up early.
    -Ask reasonable questions.
-Depending on your academy don't use your phone.
-Don't give up, chances are its one more exam, one more lap, five more sit-ups, you get the idea.

I am finally taking my Criminal Justice classes and I want to do amazing. Right that’s how I feel. I’ll be headed to the academy soon. And that does freak me out but I guess if you put in the work you won’t have to worry. At least that’s what I tell myself. To prepare for this. But you can do it. Just believe that you can and you will.

    • @bfry38
      @bfry38 2 роки тому +10

I’m the exact same way. I can’t pass a test to save my life!! If I need a 70, I will get a 68, or 69. If I needed a 50 I wound get a 48, or 49. It’s so damn frustrating!!! I’ve always said this. Tests should have hold anyone back. Here’s what happens. A straight A student and someone smart will go right in and pass with in the 90 percentile, or with 100 and if they have Military background you used to get a extra 10 percentage points for that. With that being said. Now you have smart police out there with no common sense, or street smarts! I have a buddy that’s so smart, but he would stand out in the rain and ask why he’s getting wet?! Lol, no common sense! Another example being a firefighter. You could be so weak, and not be able to climb a ladder, carry anything, etc.. but you’re never even going to make it that far if you can’t pass the damn test!! So many great people could have been a great employee, but they couldn’t pass the test! I think personally, you should have to take a test to see where you’re at and then go out on the job to see how you do. It’s so stupid to be like well you can’t do this job cause you couldn’t pass the test, but yet I can run a mile in 5 minutes, do 100 push-ups, 30 plus pull-ups, and 150 crunches and I’m not qualified, but this nerd comes in and can hardly lift his pecker, but gets first in line cause he scored in the 90’s-100!!

I encourage all to integrate into society via a regular job or education after high school BEFORE the academy to better connect to the people we serve. Its helped me and I see a significant difference from people having an education and societal ties better engage and connect with the public as opposed to my other coworkers who just came straight out of high school. Life experience is just as good as any experience you get in the academy or on the job.

I went thru a military-style live-in academy in 1980. What you described was spot on, even back then. What I still remember to this day was a sobering statistic. The academy senior instructor said to us on the last day of class: “Look at the person on your right. Look at the person on your left. Which one of you will become the individual that commits suicide during your first year in service? Statistics show that one of you will.” He was right. Our class president was that person. He had a domestic dispute with his girlfriend and his department responded. His co-worker asked him to go out for a cup of coffee with him to cool off. He went in to the bedroom to get a jacket and shot himself instead. I never would have believed that stat was true! Stay safe my friends and have at least one person that you can confide in. There are many things about this job that will piss you off, that are unfair, that might be illegal or unethical, but don’t bottle it up or drown your thoughts in a bottle.

    How to pass the academy:
    -Study your case laws

Things other than PE you might want toto before going to academy.
      1) take a civil safe driving class with wet road simulation
      2) get a CCW and take shooting classes, go to the range regularly with the handgun that your future department uses as duty gun
      3) buy handbooks to study law beforehand
      4) join a martial arts studio and train regularly
      5) buy pepper spray and have a friend hose you down, then try to fight through it (obstacle course, radio message, find gun)
      6) take a first aid and stop the bleed class

How the fuck do you make it that far and then decide " you know what? Now is the time to start robbing people for MRE peanut butter!" They got caught almost immediately and got to spend the length of their enlistment at Ft Leavenworth.

    Good video.
I put myself through an academy in Texas 27 years ago, scored well on the final exam from the academy as well as on the at that time, TCLEOSE (commission) test. I believe they allowed 3 hours and I used almost all of it checking and double checking. Don't be in a hurry when you take your final exam to be certified. Nobody cares if you use the entire time.
I found that what also helped me get hired after was my test scores and my physical condition and being a military veteran. Departments like you to be in shape and many give veteran preference points. Also applicants who were bilingual (in my case it being Texas, the Spanish language) had an advantage as well. It behooves one to try and learn as much of an applicable second language as you can.
Open mind. Roll with the punches. Be as fit as you can (for oh so many reasons when you're a cop). Be up on current events. You never know what the bosses will ask you on a review board.

I'll be completing the academy on the 31st of August and man it has been a roller coaster. With everything going on, we got pushed back a month or so but the academy isn't really difficult in my opinion. If you're not well disciplined or lack self motivation you may have a more challenging experience. Honestly, if you put forth an honest effort and bust your ass you'll be fine. I enjoy all your content, it's very informative especially the topics regarding the application process, etc.

@Terry Donelson it all comes down to the department(s) you're applying to and their policies and procedures. To my knowledge unless its a condition that would prevent you from performing the duties of the job, you'll be fine. I have anxiety as well, it's not as severe as it use to be. I would just reach out to a few departments and do some ride alongs and see how your anxiety is affected by it.

I graduated at 228 lbs and was solid with 6-pack abs. Good luck. I’m retiring next year after 30-years. Stay healthy throughout your career and NEVER stop exercising!

@@tahmin6576 i have sense changed career paths so i havent dedicated my life to getting into shape. But ask the staff at your gym or hell see if you can find someone to work out with. Cardio is key in my state but youve just got to be in great shape.

The Training sounds like Basic in the military. Lots of similarity, even the drill and ceremonies looks like it. Interesting nevertheless.

Not really, cause if cops have actually seen combat they wouldn’t be so scared and itching to pull that trigger on people that’s unarmed

@taylorlarson8114 just curious were you a very good test taker or are the question basic you just need to study. I have been learning case law such as mapp v ohio, Tennessee v Garner, Caroll v Us, Missouri v Mckinney etc. Just nervous about the exams
