When I was a kid, I wanted to become a police officer but I was embarrassed because my dad went to prison for drug dealing and the majority of my family was into some type of hustling. In my late teens I went down a similar path but walked away at 21. Now that I’m 35 and I see all the suffering in society, I wish I was in a position to contribute to my community and stand with those in law enforcement. It’s terrible the way police officers are treated today. The things Ive done make me ineligible but I will always back the blue.

What rational and sane person would even consider becoming a cop? After watching countless body cam videos, I know law enforcement is no longer considered an honorable and respectful profession. Nowadays, it would take a lunatic to ever dream of becoming a peace officer. In reality, there are several UA-cam channels dedicated to exposing ignorant cops who are ignorant of the rights citizens have in the United States. Many cops in this country don't even know the laws. I highly recommend taking a screenshot of this list of UA-cam channels and then doing a search for them here on UA-cam. Because then, you can become more knowledgeable about the tyranny that is taking place in this country. Cops are earning the hate. Wake up america!

I am a retired officer of 30 years. The last few years were as our training coordinator and recruitment supervisor. Did many oral boards. Your video is informative and right on, especially the professional appearance point. One thing I would add is sit up proud and strong and look into the interviewers eyes. Don't be boastful or verbose just be proud and confident. And the point about asking to take notes... great. That would have won me over at the start.

Yes the process is long. But that’s why you ALWAYS make sure to apply to more then one. If department A wants to take their sweet ass time that’s fine. Department B you could be already at the medical screening. Department C you could already be in the academy… Never just apply to one department. Some departments will drag you along (I’ve seen guys wait years). Don’t waste your time. Apply to multiple and make sure you let the other knows and sure sometime they don’t like that but that’s not your problem if they want you that bad they’ll hurry the process along. Otherwise keep it moving. This is what we were taught in the academy and it worked for me and everyone I knew.

Thanks for that, I have said this in multiple videos. Apply to multiple departments, even look at widening your geographic search area. Getting a foot in the door is the key to ending up where you want to be. Good luck and stay safe.

I got to 8:59 before I had take note of some of your interview. Here are some of my key takeaways from your job interview advice for future law enforcement officers within the continental United States 🇺🇸
    1) be respective of other individuals time
    2) be early, prompt, and punctual for routine appointments like doctors, dentists, other office visit or meetings
    3) make your story related and not too like rehearse. Tell us a time about …
    STAR method
    4) dress appropriately for the occasion
    5) be meticulous and take notes when necessary
Would recommend to relevant hiring manager for position just for being normal human being

I think my biggest challenge will be that I have always been very self-critical and so that has led me to be humble or sell myself short, so the selling myself will definitely take a lot of pep talk and preparation. I don’t have an interview, but I want to be ready for everything. Thanks for your video, it definitely helps!

Stay positive, honestly, in my personal life I am shy and anti confrontational, my wife couldn't believe I was in law enforcement because I avoid confrontation. But there is something about having the knowledge of the law and being entrusted to protect people that, when I put on my uniform, I had no problem talking to people and making some of those hard decisions. You can do it.

I had several oral boards and interviews when I first applied with several agencies. As an older guy with a successful career behind me, I think they all looked at me differently from a kid with no military who still lived at home with parents. I often wonder if I made the right selection of departments. I did well at the Academy but the scenarios were a little different. They liked me because I never complained. I always saw the glass as half full. I enjoyed my time in that Department but I was the subject of bias because of my age and my good attitude. I never complained. I just soldiered on. I ran into many people who were jealous of me (what a riot!) and those who hated me. It is not a "one for all and all for one deal" any more.

      For anyone reading this comment.
My number one advice would be to read, familiarize and understand the departments Mission statement, vision and goals. You do not nesscesary have to agree with these but you should should make sure you sound like you do. That does not mean lie or be deceiving but this displays an understanding and flexibility with the department. Your goal is to be unbias has possible and show you are able to put your personal beliefs aside when on duty.

Things might be a lot lot different now. I sat (as an interviewer) on many oral boards. For entry level, we had a panel of 3, Sergents (that's the way they spelled it, I know it looks wrong) or senior Senior Officers. He said that first impressions are important. He is very right. Extremely right. We are looking for someone that we want to work with. Someone that will be down for whatever happens and be there in a jam. We did not give a F about politics or diversity, one way or another. So here's the deal, be in shape, dress nicely and conservatively. Have a military bearing and remember that you are talking to old patrolmen. The best way to know how we think and what we want is to go on ride alongs and try to get to know someone. The bad part is that mostly the new guys get stuck with the ride longs but watch those old guys. They are the leaders and they carry the weight.

In this day and age if you don’t have a criminal record your hired. Departments have a hard time getting applicants because most departments don’t provide pensions or retirement healthcare! I would try to find out if the department is young or if many are retiring soon. If it’s a young department you may be on midnights for 20 years.

Question can a new chief of police in Texas assign a sgt to be a command officer and oversee other sgts. Promote him on a salary pay without testing for this position? This new chief is also changing policy with memos in order to have an officer be eligible to apply for a position that was favorable for that officer who didn’t originally meet qualifications; bypassing other qualified officers for that position? There is a chief, 2 LT’s and 5 sgt’s. It’s a small department. This new chief has used the word promoted and has shifted officers to different divisions but most concerning is appointing and Sgt to a higher position without giving anyone equal opportunity.

I was a resident then, I am now a citizen but now I’m hesitant since in my young days I did do ilegal substances such a cocaine and ecstasy haven’t touch those anymore since I’m much older now and have a family but in your experience would be that be an automatic DQ? I’ve always been and stayed in great physical shape and never been arrested or in trouble with the law.

And always answer in the Past tense. ‘in my youth I experimented with….” And ‘Since my youth I have never touched any illicit or mind altering substances. I don’t even drink, as I don’t like to cloud my judgement.” Things of that nature. Make it clear that you have long since learned from the mistakes of your past, and that you have been clean for your adult life.

Ease up on making people feel nervous and uncomfortable at alot of these Department interviews. Just be thankful that alot of these future Cadets really will make great Police Officers in these Departments that probably are 300 to 800 Officers short already.

Interesting, first time someone has said I am making people nervous. The goal in all my videos is to reduce stress and let everyone have an idea of what to expect and how to prepare. I will pay attention to the tone in the future, all critiques are welcome here.

Every police and sheriff department in the state of Texas is hiring, smaller departments will not take that long to get you on the streets working, the bigger departments will take a longer time to put you through a background check . But they shouldn’t take to long due to most of them are begging for help.

It's a calling. No one goes into law enforcement to get rich. Federal guys make some decent money. But it really isn't about the dollars if it is what you are meant to do. Is it worth it, that is up to each person. I wouldn't have traded my time for anything, but that is just me. Good luck.

    • @InPursuit360
      @InPursuit360  9 місяців тому +1

No, not dumb at all. Some states/jurisdictions make you get certified first. Or, they work 50/50, some people do it on there own and some the departments will sponsor/pay for you. Then, there are some that will not allow you to self sponsor. Check the state/jurisdiction where you want to apply.

    • @Beuwen_The_Dragon

Depends on the State, and then the County/city you want to apply to.
Some States allow ‘Self sponsorship” for aspiring Officers, while others require you to apply to a local agency/department/office, and should they want to hire you, sponsor you and send you to the academy.
Usually in such cases you either need to attend a university in criminal justice/law enforcement or enroll in citizen volunteer/reserve programs in your local law enforcement agency.

Id say dress in civilian attire. Clean suit, tie, Clean shoes, cut hair, clean shaven, etc. Your service recourd will speak for itself. Many law enforcement officers are veterans themselves.
