This helps a lot friend. I was doing well modeling aircraft until I got to the texturing part.
I was following a Tutorial done in 2016 and blender v 3.41 has changed a good bit. Some of the functions have been renamed. Its like now if I click UV editor it automatically opens up a split screen with 3D viewport and UV editor in view. The instructions had you manually loading those functions. At least I have an image loaded where I can see it but still haven't gotten a 2D wing painted and showing up on my plane.
DUDE no joke in the literal span of the 7 second into of this video i zoned out, forgot what im watching, looked away from my computer, i hear an absolute beast of a tongue twister about jackin flaps, i tune back in to my absolute amazement that a blender tutorial started out with such rhyme. subscribed.

Ive tried it exactly as the video says and hitting tab doesnt do what the video shows it does im on Blender 4.0. Also how to i remove the extra screen? i made too many on accident and cant get rid of them.

When I try to use thee "S" key that doesnt happen, is there any other way to go into edit mode? when I hit Tab on a floor cushion I am working on, it doesn't unwrap on the new screen. I am using blender 3.6

If for someone doesn't show up the material, for me i pressed the little circle in "Material" and go right on the end where it says also material and click that. That's how it showed up for me

The question is now - how do I close that window with UV map? I have to restart Blender every time I use it.

Quick question: I am learning to mod weapons into Elden Ring, and the game requires textures to be separated into Albedo, Metallic, and Normal independent save files. How would I go about that? Create the model and apply first the Albedo, save it. Then remove the Albedo, apply metallic, save it, and finally do the same, but with the normal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Useful guide but only when the smart unwrap works. Which it totally doesn't even though I am using a simple rectangle. Some of the faces instead of being squares on the texture image are just lines. It makes no sense. So the texture on those sides of rectange are totally distorted. I am just using a brick texture. and so it's easy to see some sides are not working at all.

create 1 image that consists of multiple images. everything else is explained in this tutorial.

one thing im having problems with is adding new textures to an existing one like lets say you have plain arms but you want to take another arm texture that has commando paint and use that on yours thats whats getting me i use shader then uvmap place that in the texture file and place the texture in the base color it will generate but its all stretched looks weird hard to place correctly

you have to have the mesh selected... I had armature selected and "armature doesn't have material" so...

the vertices for me all go on top of each other so i can't separate them and each face takes like 1 pixel of the texture
