This was the moment the show ended in my heart. No one, no human could have survived that sword, that fall. And instead of giving us a believable explanation (the Lazarus Pit), he just.. survived. Some stitches and he was good to go.
Originally, the lazarus pits didn't resurrect on their own - it was a combination of herbs & potions combined with the pit. I like to think the "special herbs" used to heal him were the same ones Al-Ghul's priests used on the pit.
I forgot how incredible this show was. The writing, the fight scenes, the editing. Everything was incredible! And then it slowly died out, like a fart fading with the wind.
In its early days, this show was truly something special. The only complaint I ever had about this scene was Oliver’s choice of weaponry. Dual wielding is obviously not his strength and he is too smart to not know that. It was immersion breaking to see him make such a poor choice.
Ra's Al Ghul's combat in this episode was outstanding. People may argue over petty details like how muscular Matt Nable is (or isn't), but he threw down hard in this fight. His movements were so swift and precise, and he made it all look so effortless. Haters gonna hate, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Detail of Oliver’s scars getting red from the cold is so nice, too bad they couldn’t fix the camera angles so it’s not obvious as hell Ra’s is a stunt double
I love how at 3:21, the epic comeback music is blasting aloud on as Arrow makes a fight to defeat Ra's Al Ghul, then at 3:26, the music suddenly stops as Ra's Al Ghul finishes him off.
Yea, they should have milked the idea of him dying a lot more. His comeback to Star City was so underwhelming. It's like they had a completely different writing staff after this episode.
I've been exposed to "comic books" all my life. And that resurrection was the worst. As I said above, penicillin tea? Come on. They couldn't sneak Oliver into a Lazarus pit or something? Or steal a sample?
orry townes True, but for the most part it looked like Ra's was toying with him during the fight, at that point, he could've killed him with little or no effort if he wanted
What amazes me about this scene is that as Ra's prayed for Oliver as he drew his last breath, Oliver somehow remembered every word of the prayer for when he killed Ra's at the end of the season.
Interestingly, these are common Muslim prayers, i.e. to ask for the deceased to be spared from the Punishment of the Grave and the torment of the Fire. Not the best pronunciation by the actor, but a thoughtful choice by the writers.

I gotta say, I really found Ra’s line about replacing evil with death to be incredibly interesting. Death comes for us all, it’s inevitable (even in a show where they have a Lazarus pit). While I don’t agree with the use of the death penalty, I do agree with it in concept. Some people have done so much genuine evil that replacing their evil with death is the better choice in my opinion. Of course our world is flawed so applying this concept tends to be twisted and wrong in many ways, but in a just world I would have to agree that replacing evil with death is the right thing to do.
@@deathstroke5218 Actually he kinda knocked out Merlin then Merlin came back and whooped him. Only because at the top Malcom was more experienced at fighting than oliver was. But now through training with Ra's he can most definitely whoop malcom ass.
Ah. I assumed you were making a comment about Green Arrow actually killing Ra's, giving Batman's trouble as a point on why it was ridiculous. Fair enough.

Spent “5 years in hell” as a mafia captain, among other things, heavily trained in survival and combat. Gets years of combat experience fighting as a vigilante, habitually trains with former special forces, Trains under THE LEAGUE OF ASSASSINS, Goes on to beat Ra’s, leader of the league of assassins in combat, becomes Ra’s gives it away because meh. Talks about how he is so superior to the Flash and has to mentor him in combat experience, shows fight scene where he, thanks to all his experience and training can handle the flash, a man who can move hundreds of times faster than him, and is confident that he can take him down. Then habitually gets his ass whooped in hand to hand combat by an old man, then by a revenge driven psychopath who spent a mere fraction of the time training that Oliver did, oh and he’s always evenly matched in hand to hand combat with random street thugs and arms dealers along the way. Like damn could these random street thugs have taken down Ra’s Al Ghul as well? They’re bodying the Oliver Queen who beat Ra’s. I mean Damn this shows power scaling is elite.
Oliver gets heavily nerfed at random points of the show... and he got completely nerfed when curtis rene and dinah came along... They realized oliver didn't need a team, so they weakened him so that he did
Power scaling is necessary to keep the show from being boring but I can agree that it can be annoying to see him struggle to take down street thugs when you see him absolutely tear through them in the earlier seasons. That's why the fight scene in the final episode is so fucking good, he just single handedly claps a small army.
@@liamwilliams6651 I think his struggle between killing and no killing affects him. You notice in a lot of the darker episodes that his fights reflect that. Those are the fights he wins with more ease. But when he holds back, that's when he gets into trouble with the ordinary thugs.

"Better men than you have tried" -Awesome Batman reference that should have been in there. Just to clarify, Ras al Ghul respected/admired Batman so much that he actively sought to have him take his position and lead the League of Assassins. Not saying that he is better or worse.

I love how Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins are only ever so slightly "the bad guys." Ra's Al Ghul: "I was 11 years old when I killed my first man. I remember the look on his face... when the light went out behind his eyes. Such a subtle change… almost imperceptible, between life and death. I felt ashamed, I had stolen from him the most precious gift: life. But I also felt something else: pride. Because I had taken up arms against someone who sought to do ill against my family. I realized, that what I had done was necessary. You see, I had replaced evil with death. And that, is what the League exists to do. And I have killed several thousand more men since then… And the world is better off for it."
They are not the bad guys, they are the heroes that never win. They seek to destroy the system that destroys humanity while the justice league fights criminals but protects the system that creates criminality.

What amazes me about this scene is that as Ra's prayed for Oliver as he drew his last breath, Oliver somehow remembered every word of the prayer for when he killed Ra's at the end of the season.
Well, to be fair, the “brainwashing” he played along with probably covered that.

the best way to make arrow great again is buy getting rid of olicity, and bring back good laurel, and have her and Oliver fall in love all over again.
Iris shouldn't be eliminated. She should be recurring instead of regular. Make her do more reporting, less star labs. But I agree Felicity should go.

While I don’t agree with the use of the death penalty, I do agree with it in concept. Some people have done so much genuine evil that replacing their evil with death is the better choice in my opinion.
