    The extra seedling media left over in the tray. Do you let it dry out before you dump it back to the media tote? Do you have a link to the gray 12" containers? I am sure tomatoes don't appreciate the hot black containers in full sun.

    • @TowardGarden

      I don't reuse left over seed mix, I just add to my potting mix. And the gray pots are on my amazon page amzn.to/43gvF5H . Thank you for visiting!

      For $20.24 each. Is that inflation? or is that a normal price? Or worth their weight in gold and will last years and years?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  2 місяці тому

      @wendyward2585 oh no, I think I got them for $9, but the prices are always changing for different colors. Right now some other colors are $11.99. Check back later maybe gray ones will drop too.

    Love your videos, they inspired me to start gardening. Do I do the same process for regular roma tomatoes? Do they just continue to produce, if so for how long? And once they stop if they stop do you get rid of the soil or reuse it? Sorry if so many questions. Im a beginner, learning.

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  2 місяці тому +2

      So glad you love my videos. These are all good questions. If the Roma variety is of "determinate" type, then yes, the process is same. Some Roma varieties are "indeterminate" meaning they will grow very tall and need more support (trellis) and more pruning. Same as this video, you can harvest determinate tomatoes for few weeks and then it will stop producing. Once the harvest is done, you can reuse the potting mix for new plants. Check my video here on how to reuse the soil ua-cam.com/video/nlmarlrwfPI/v-deo.html . Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

    Great videos, as always.
    I noticed that you tend to transplant your crops when they are quite big. Does that mean they do better with transplant shock, and do you skip hardening your plants first before planting, given they are bigger?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  2 місяці тому +1

      My criteria for transplanting the seedlings is mainly the roots. I check the roots and before getting root bound I try to plant them. If the roots still have room and seedlings are doing fine, I don't rush planing them. Specially in my case where I don't have a big garden and need to manage space for my containers, this helps me to plan accordingly. But in general, planting them earlier is much better than late. And hardening off is a gradual process for me since our winters are mild. I usually keep my seedling outdoor, specially in daytime, so they are ready by the time of planing. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

      Thank you for the feedback, that’s really helpful. I’m going to try that too! I’m guessing they will also be more resilient to pests etc with the bigger root system. Anyway, love your videos - i’ve watched all of them, and several repeats too

    Should I Sterilize my potting mix

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Місяць тому

      If you use a mix with aged compost, you don't need to. The composting process at high temperature acts as sterilizing. Bagged potting soil should already be sterilized, but depends on the brand. Thanks for visiting!

    Do you put your tomatoe seedlings in a greenhouse or on a window sill

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  2 місяці тому

      I keep seedlings in filtered sunlight, such as under beach umbrella or 70% shade cloth (4-6 hours of early sunlight). If it is too cold, I keep them in my cold frame or a clear tote. Greenhouse or a sunny window sill both will work too. Thanks for visiting!

    Whats the ideal time to grow these?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  2 місяці тому

      Usually in early spring. You can start indoors about 6 weeks before outdoor night temperatures are in the 50-55°F (10-13°C), about this time of the year- March. Thanks for visiting!
