High school friend of mine had an 8 month old horse being forced into horse racing at a place called Cloverdale racetrack & casino. He (the horse) was pulling away from 3 men yanking him for "training". Her father was one of said men. 2 of them pulled so hard, the horse fell, smashed it's head, & started having seizures. Without hesitation, they shot the horse with a bolt gun like it was nothing, blaming the horse. She came to me crying at school, telling me about this, we both skipped class, I walked with her home, her dad was there & started screaming at her for being weak/loving the horse/more horrific things. Same man drowned 4 kittens in a horse trough & forced her to "dispose" of them. Absolutely. Horrific. What happened to my friend? Years later, she's a tenant of my parent, has two kids. One is 2-3, sweet & kind. She ended up hitting her new born child. 9 weeks old just for crying, giving him a black eye & after telling her off about it while she didn't care, I saw her in that moment & I never saw her again. She was getting violent with her children as she was taught in such a violent family.

I worked in Canadian and American horse racing industry in the 80s and part of the 90s. I was a groom and then exercise rider. I wasn't a gambler and I didn't make a lot of money for my jobs but I loved the horses and the excitement. I had worked as a show horse groom before that and made a lot less money and it was boring. I always worried about a horse breaking down and hoping they were going to good homes when the horse was sold by the owner. Anyway, not wanting horses going to slaughter started me on my gradual vegan journey. Today I have been vegan 13 years! The hardest thing for me to give up was riding horses but now I am against the exploitation of all animals. Thoroughbreds have a special place in my heart. ❤ #Horseracingkillshorses

We are known for the largest horse race in the country, the Kentucky derby. This year there has been several deaths in the Churchill downs the race and horses are held in. There was a huge evacuation and investigation that started and may still be going on. Full kudos to Animal Rising and its willingness to highlight the injustices faced by these magnificent animals - one activist has even been jailed as a result of his protests. Glad to see Ed going full on political in this video too.
