He's a complete psychopath to have done it. Knowing his wife's love, having her family's love and trust, then taking her life so callously, watching their grief, only to do it again to another family -- and a family in which the brother-in-law saved his life!
He's not a normal person. He's devoid of the empathy required to be a normal person.

Especially if said person was involved in a questionable death of a previous spouse, and there is a life insurance policy on you. People are nuts. It was said early on that Toni met Harold in her mid-late 30's. She might have been a bit "desperate" for a husband after her earlier divorce, so Harold sensed this and made the "charming" moves. There might have been some pressure on her, perhaps unspoken, to find another mate. Toni was from the South, and though it was not said, women are expected to be partnered in that culture, especially in the Christian church tradition. This pure conjecture on my part, but a possible factor.

These past months I've been learning abou narcissistic behavior. I've noticed they can give different stories for the same incident and not mind at all. These crimes are awful. These monsters leave so many ruined lives and so much pain. No punishment is great enough.

I wrote this as a reply to a comment about women ending up with these types of men & it’s such an important message so I’m reposting it here 💜
~no it’s not. I’m educated myself but my husband was a doctor did this process to me and it’s so very slow. They are wonderful perfect men in the beginning. A few months after we were married I saw a few slight cracks in the mask but I chalked it up to him being stressed by taking over a new medical practice. I had also become sick and had to be very reliant on him for a while and I’m an extremely caring empathetic person (which they usually target) and they weaponize pity. He had already convinced me to leave my career to be a “power team” at his practice & once I was sick I felt this internal guilt & pressure to get better faster than I was capable of because of his evident “stress”. I was one who always used to think that women who don’t get out must be so weak & it could never happen to me but the slow mental warfare breaks you down and if you’re like me who grew up in a very loving household I had never seen an ounce of what emotional abuse looked like & for the longest I just thought my husband was struggling and needed more from me & being a devout Christian also played a role in feeling the need to want to uplift & support him. He started isolating me as well as his “stress” led to “depression” and he “didn’t feel like being around people” and wanted me to always be with him. When you believe you know someone’s character from the months you spent falling in love with such a wonderful person who gave you so much bliss you don’t realize you’re being manipulated & you’re trying to help them get back to the person you knew all the while you’re losing your identity, your happiness, your sources of joy & they become all you have in a way bc they’re the only one who you’re relating to. It’s so masterfully subtle it’s evil. I did see red flags when he started showing irritation and would slam something down which I knew was off bc I didn’t grow up seeing anger. Also when there’s children involved and you know you don’t want them to witness the bad behavior you become a shield and end up taking the wrath quietly so they do not. By this time he had full financial control as I worked for him & he kept our main funds in his business account which I was never added to & I basically got an allowance. I was still struggling with my health and couldn’t fully support myself to easily leave. The kids would be uprooted, their lifestyle would change, there’s so much at stake but it always always escalates. He went from grabbing me hard by the arm the first time to putting his hands around my neck the next time & that’s when I finally called the police. No one knew. I was so ashamed to tell anyone I had fallen victim to an abuser bc of how I had viewed it & assumed most did as well. I didn’t tell a single soul until the end when I had to take my kids and go back to my parents house and start my life over again. I take the time to write this just in case anyone else out there reads this and recognizes anything in their own lives. Don’t feel ashamed. It’s not your fault, it never was. You don’t deserve it and I encourage you to make a plan to leave. That’s the most dangerous time. The staggering truth is DV is the number one killer of women age 18-35!!! It’s happening all around us so if anyone sees the signs I beg of you to try to reach out to the victim. Look into how to prepare to safely leave and offer them any support you can in doing so. It ALWAYS escalates & you never know how quickly. Mine was mostly psychological & coercive control but that alone is abuse. Yelling throwing & slamming things is abuse. Anything done in an attempt to control you with fear. And if someone puts their hands on you it will only escalate. I was so fortunate that something inside him made him take his hands off my throat before 180 seconds bc that’s all it takes to end a life with strangulation. If this hasn’t happened to you, learn the signs. If they seem too good to be true. It’s quite possible. If they come on strong with compliments & praise very quickly progressing the relationship it could be love bombing. Take your time. Ask all the questions. Be safe out there 💜 I started watching true crime once I was out so I could learn to perceive behavior patterns of people who do these types of things and it has helped so much in not allowing myself to end up in another one of these relationships & these type of people seem more prominent than ever. I’ve gone on a few dates and am so grateful I saw the signs right away on the ones I’ve encountered. I’ve been single 4 years now and yes I’d love to have a partner but I love my peace so much more 💜

This case is similar to one that my mother’s ex friend told me that happened in his family. The major difference is the man, whom was attending his 2nd wife’s funeral from a suspicious death was shot in the head while sitting in the front row by his 2nd wife’s cousin, who found out the guy’s first wife died in the same mysterious fashion years before. So long for years of speculation and investigations.

How long was it after Toni’s death that he had to go to trial? And did he receive the $4.7MM before that? I saw a meme the other day: “Just think…your ex is somewhere pretending to be in love just to have a place to stay.” It’s prob more common than we think.

Police depts are very quick to look into life insurance policies on any case surrounding accidental deaths, especially if there is any chance the beneficiary is a person of interest in the case. The insurance company only pays out after an investigation has been completed by the authorities, so he didn't get any payout.
And yep, it is common for ppl to pretend to be in love with someone, just to have a place to live. So common, in fact, that they've created a term for ppl like that, hobosexuals.
