    PLEASE KEEP ZOHA on this show!!!! You can tell she knows what she is talking about with photography and not just a random model who agrees with everything and not having her own opinion. Keeps it more AUTHENTIC. Great video though!

    Distances longer than 30m are often used in sports photography. Flashes are strategically set around the playground, along the courses or the tracks, and then triggered from a distance (often to provide backlighting). In Nordic sports disciplines, spectators must be aware of this, because flashes set for the official photographers may interfere for casual snaps and with snow reflection, produce nasty surprises.

    Don't forget the Nissin System! High quality wireless system fully compatible with 4/3 and even TTL-wireless compatible. The flashes are of professional quality and are very powerful.

    Thanks for this video. But what mode does the 900r have besides TTL? Car? Manual? and then, only with ttl will it do pre-flash to eliminate red eye? Thank you

    I'm a long time viewer of your channel, but probably not too long, because I see Zoha for the first time and I'm really impressed, what a beautiful charming girl. About the FL700 WR looks like a really promising model, very compact, but I wish this one or a future model to be with BLH-1 battery for faster recycle time and can even adopt USB-C charging on it.

    • @Red35Photography

      FL700 WR is a great flash, it's a shrunk version of FL900R, which is one of my favourite flashes, and now with built-in radio transmitter and receiver! Tiny and light, perfect for some location shoots.

    I am running into a problem shooting the Fl-700WR with Zuiko 1.2 45 mm on EM1-III wide open, the flash on manual 1/128 and still bright, ii do not want to step down the lens and the built in ND filter is not to work with flash, seems the olympus flash output is very good for the advertised numbers, at the distance I am shooting from my subject with sekonic it measures bare flash no modifier 2.5 aperture with 200 iso 1/200 shutter speed, that is a lot for manual 1/128 ( About a meter and a half distance). other than lens ND filter any suggestions?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  2 роки тому

      Hi there, you've got the some settings incorrect. If you want to use the flash faster than the limited shutter speed, you need to enable HSS (High Speed Sync) on the camera and flash. This way, you can shoot wide open on day light. Using external ND will only darken the entire image and so will lower the power of your flash, so it won't work. HSS won't be compatible with silence shutter either, you need to have mechanical shutter enabled, HSS also not compatible with internal Live ND feature.

      @@Red35Photography I am aware of the FP on the flash , I do not want to crush the ambient, I need the wide open 1.2 with the ambient and I find the flashgun too strong for the distance I am working at .

    I agree that a 30-m wireless range should be more than enough for almost all situations. The only application I can think of where a longer range would be useful would be photographing large rooms in caves. I have seen a few photos in books and on the Internet of large cave rooms where it was obvious that multiple light sources at large distances were used to light the room. I suspect the lighting was achieved with a combination of lamps and flashes.

  • @joshua4578
    @joshua4578 5 років тому

    Good product review...I think a lot of Olympus shooters will find this informative. I thought Zoha was a great cohost for your video...bring her back. I noticed you just shot with a flash on a tripod with the plastic diffuser and a few shots with a second flash hand held. I've always stayed away from OCF because I feel like I would need a reflector or something...but it looks like I need to get a little braver and use these little flashes a bit more. For me, I'm on the Godox system as I shoot Sony APS-C. Any tips on using these flashes without reflectors?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 років тому +2

      First, thanks for the kind words. In case you want to improve on OCF, you need to work out the distance and depends on light situations, on a super sunny day, you may want to 'narrow' the light by either putting a barn door in front or change the 'zoom' on the flash to something on the tele range, this will allow the unit to concentrate it's power on one point rather than spreading it across (wide angle). So something like 70mm on FF will do the job nicely. Also, don't put it too far either as you simply can't over power the sun. Do some practice and surely you will get it. Especially with TTL these days, it's much easier than full manual.

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox 5 років тому

      Errr I dont do routine, its not part of my DNA. Mostly I am looking for light in a photo; flash destroys natural light. Flash is ideal for photographers who need to produce product, especially for a client, they cant wait for light. I dont have a product, I have no use for a product; I am not a photographer. Often my photos come from my head and I will use composite elements, some of which may not be photographic; I have even been known to mix in potato prints, colage or sculpture. My father was a photographer and a brilliant one untiul his breakdown. As Picasso said, you must kill your father. I made damn sure my work was so far beyond his understanding that he could barely recognise where it came from. I have to surprise myself, that is the drug that drives me, i have to be surprised, if somebody else sees something in any of it then that will make me happy but it isnt something i need, if i have fun its a bonus - winks ;-)

    Nice video. However I can’t see why anyone would want this over a Godox system unless you need ultimate weather resistance. You are pretty limited in power with Oly flashes.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Bob. Well, that depends how much out door full power HSS you are shooting. Unless I am in a commercial shoot and needed the distance under massive sun, the Olympus system is fine, so long you use the FL900R as it's the beefiest flash they have. I can see the appeal of Godox and I like them too but my usual setup was using native Olympus flashes just for consistence sake, and of course being a fanboy :) But I must admit, the FL900R is a great flash, just that it didn't have a radio wireless feature, but now I can add that with FR-WR :)

      Perhaps build quality? I had a Godox flash and the cheap plastic foot of the flash broke. Won't buy from them again.

      @PhotoBob 5 років тому

      mavfan1 can happen. I shoot professionally and I have 6 Godox speed lights, 4 AD200 and 2 ad600s. I’ve had 1 flash break and 1 AD200. Both from falls. Durability is one reason I stick with them. They are very solid units that just don’t malfunction. But I understand! Experiences are different. I’ve had things break that I’ve sworn off too while everyone else raves about them! Lol

      @@Red35Photography Do they work with Panasonic cameras?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 років тому

      @@fellowcitizen Thanks for watching, first, I don't know the answer. Traditionally, Panasonic and Olympus shared a lot of their technologies and it included flash system, in fact they were identical to start with and just a re-branded version of each other. So technically, they should work. However, with the new wireless system out, Olympus updated the firmwares on several of their cameras, including EM1 II, EM5 II and PEN-F. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the new flash system but once I get a retail unit and test on my friend's GH5, then I can confirm.
