Your editing and story-telling has really improved over the last six months. And you are clearly passionate about macro. It's been wonderful watching your growth from just a couple of thousand subscribers.
Hello and thank you for this helpful video. You may remember a while ago I commented that I thought your videos were over too quickly for me to take in and I didnt't mean just the 'shorts'. Well this one was just right for me as I have a 60mm macro lens and am looking for a different focal length for my bag and this video helped a lot.
Started with Olympus and will stay with OMsystem, just came back from Mt Everest trek.. Most used used was my 60mm f2.8 marco. Olympus has the most amazing glass lucky I'm OMsystem
This is such a great video and to your shots are so inspiring. Can you use the extension tubes with the 30 mm? I’d probably buy the 60mm if I can afford, it, but wondered if the extensions would be a compromise. What do you think? Many thanks!!!
Thanks for your questions my friend. To be honest, I never played around that much with extension tubes. Anybody can answer this? Thanks for your message ✌️😉
Thanks for the interesting video. Have you considered using your mobile phone as a shutter release instead of using the timer to prevent camera shake? I use the OIS app on my iPhone when using a tripod for focus stacking and HR shots. I am actually considering purchasing either the 60mm or 30mm to compliment my 90mm macro lens, so this video is a value to me.
Thanks for your feedback, my friend. Yes I’m now using a wireless remote control because indeed it is quicker and eliminate any possible camera shake from pushing the shutter.😉✌️
Seriously stoked you are using the OM system now….I have the 60mm macro on the E-M1X and only today have started to try your method. I have been a flash user rather than LED lights, although I do use modelling lights on the flash units to set up the shot it doesn’t work anywhere near as good as what you do.So my next purchase will be cube lights because I have seriously fallen in love with the images you produce….
Hi Daniel. I love your work and find it very inspirational. The lighting you use is key to your work and sets you apart from many other macro photographers. Can you let us know why sometimes you use your Adaptalux lights and other times your Lume cube lights. Is the light from them very different?
Thank you for your question and kind words. When it comes to lighting, personal choice plays a big role in achieving the desired results. With smaller lights that are positioned correctly, you can accomplish your goals effectively. I personally enjoy using both of these products. Thanks once again for your question and your kind words! 🌟😊
Welcome back, Daniel. It's about time you posted another vid! (kidding; you must have been busy). 😊Always appreciate your posts. (And congrats on 70K subs.) Pic in pic and side by side techniques were quite effective. TBH, I kind of missed the points about IQ differences between the lenses, and focus stacking vs bracketing. Can't tell an IQ diff in the vid, at least not for the subjects; both are stellar. I've used both macro focal lengths and prefer the 90mm when I need a bit more distance between cam and subject to get the composition; IQ is not the issue. So, you use focus bracketing to determine the number of shots to include in post where you use focus stacking? Good tips on underexposing before building a composition by gradually adding lighting. Same for how you build up a scene on the spot. Just need clarification on bracket v stack. Cheers!
Hi Paul, It's great to be back, and I truly appreciate your continued support and kind words. Regarding your question about focus Stacking and focus bracketing, the camera I used in the video has an internal focus stacking feature. This feature allows me to capture a series of 15 images that are processed internally into a final image. It helps me determine the correct settings before proceeding with focus bracketing, which involves capturing single raw files that I later stack during post-processing for more precise manipulation. I hope this explanation clarifies things for you. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. Cheers!✌️😉
Salut Daniel, Encore excellente photo.
I have the 30 and 60 and will get the 90. But I do have to say the 30 is a joy to use. And it allows me to show more of the background behind the subject meaning it often is the best choice. We live near alpine peaks and being able to show a flower in front of a mountain peak is best with the 30. In your first two shoots I could see the 30 painted the scene better than did the 90. But for sure there are scenarios where the 90 would be the obvious choice.
Love watching. Will you provide the link for the portable light that you use. There's a link for the flexible LED light, but I don't see the other one. Love the techniques. Both lenses came out beautifully in different focus.
@@billchambers6316 thats because the Lume cube is not in their stock anymore. therefor you won`t find it on their website. Only pre-used if you can find it on ebay or other marketplaces for pre-used items.
When doing in camera focus stacking the initial focus point is not the nearest point of the subject but 1/3 into the subject. There are several Olympus Facebook macro groups that discus this in detail.

I like the 30mm image better at 4:36 . I like that there is some bokeh and some color you can see the blue balls that is the sky and the green and the brown. The 90mm background is just one color. Still a good image but I like the 30mm better.
hello, I'm from Indonesia and I really like the photo objects you share, thank you 😊 Is it possible that every time you take a photo like Macro, give it an ideal distance? Sorry, I don't understand English either, but you can give an example using a meter or something like that, Thank You
The lens are still 30mm and 90mm but the math is different. The focal range is the same as full frame being 60mm and 180mm. If Olympus or OM Systems said it was a 60mm lens with the focal range being 120mm that would be really weird.
"not really a 30mm lens or a 90mm lens' uhmm, yes they are. They have the equivalent field of view of a 60mm and a 180mm in 35mm format but they are what they are. Why the fixation of providing equivalency to 'full-frame' just because it's what most people 'understand' (which they don't really). It's like telling Americans that 1 inch is not really 1 inch but 2.56cm because that's what most people 'understand'.
With macro, it’s as much about reproduction ratio as angle of view. The advantage of M4/3 lenses is you get more depth of field because of the shorter focal lengths for the narrower angle of view, which is vital in macro.
@@samsantana I totally agree with your point about the focal length of a lens, any lens, regardless of sensor/film size is correct, and lots of UA-cam "experts" still don't understand that, especially when talking about M4/3 "equivalency", apertures and depth of field. My point was, focal length is less relevant when it comes to macro, as you are concentrating on reproduction ratio. For example, the M.Zuiko 60 mm macro has a maximum 1:1 ratio, although some people (including OM Systems marketing department) say it has an equivalent two times magnification compared to 35 mm sensor, which is nonsense: the ratio is 1:1 regardless of sensor size or focal length, it just fills more of the frame with M4/3. On the other hand, the M.Zuiko 30 mm macro has a maximum (greater) reproduction ratio of 1.25:1, even though it has a shorter focal length, which will have more depth of field than 60 mm (depending also on aperture and distance from subject). The 90 mm has maximum ratio of 2:1 (or 4:1 with the 2x teleconverter). The only difference the focal length or angle of view makes with macro photography is the distance you can be away from the subject. For example, the 90 mm is great for insects because you want to be further away. The shorter 30 mm focal length can be better for fungi because it may not be possible to put the camera further away. I hope that clarifies my point.
