I recently found a video about this stitch and watched several videos. Yours by far has been an easier method and looks so much neater. Thanks for sharing, will knit this in the new year as in Australia we are heading into summer.
I have always loved the look of herringbone and hound's tooth!Absolutely gorgeous stitch and beautiful Scarf can't wait to get started!!!Thank you so much ;)!!!
Thank you! For some reason I could never really do this stitch, now I can! Your projects are always gorgeous and beautiful. I seem to be a visual learner when it comes to this and your videos are always spot on.
Feel a sense of total knitting mastery once you succeed for the first time in this breath taking stitch! Once you have familiarised yourself with the basics move onto working stripes as part 2, or work my brand new method in the round! Better still why not create Herringbone stripes in the round with beautifully seamless perfect stripes! The possibilities are endless.....Good luck!
Great scarf and instructions, thank you! Having instructions in pdf and calculations was very helpful too. Just beware that you might have the scarf curl. I used alpaca wool and it curls like crazy, which I didn't notice until I finished and binded off the scarf. Too bad, still keeping it!
I've been looking for a new pattern for a time filler, something different that didn't require a pattern. This is perfect. I'm also thinking of using this for a silk scarf for my daughter.
Wow that looks great love how you made it draped. I’m wondering if your going to teach brioche in the round or 2 colour brioche I’d love to learn that too 🙏😊💕
Loooving this stitch's understated elegance. I need help, though, cause no matter what I do the piece curls. The yarn I'm using calls for 8mm needles. I'm using 10mm for casting on, and 15mm for subsequence stiches. Curling is alright for a scowl, but I'm planning to work on a regular scarf now, and I don't quite know what to do!
Jason Tran - I would try casting on with smaller 8mm needles and gentle blocking. This should help reduce the curling. In some yarns you may have to accept a little bit of curling. Good luck!
I also experimented, and in order to still have the right hight for the base row, I used the chinese waitress cast on, The width is determined by the loop made by the size of the crochet hook used, the height is determined by the needle size. Using a thinner-than-your-wool merino, I cast on using an 8mm crochet hook and a 10mm knitting needle. I then worked the scarf (beginning with the purl row) in size 10 needles using an 8mm for the cast off. Im not happy with the cast off though, shame I couldnt think of a better one. This way is better because its easy to keep the knitting loose whereas if you begin with a tight base row, the others seem to follow suit.
It would make a great blanket. It would be very heavy though, and take anything upwards of 4 weeks. I have free written instructions from my website that may help you calculate the width. Good luck!
You need a long circular needle to hold the volume of stitches, but you do not need to work in the round. You could work a scarf piece to and fro like my other videos (see parts 1 & 2,) but have the option of turning it into a cowl by simply adding a button hole and button band to the ends.....or you could sew the seam at the back. Let me know what you decide!
thank you for a beautiful work really like the way you teach.help me my friend how can someone get these wools as am in Uganda in east of Africa? Thanks for being there for me.
Hello :) I was confused as to what have you used as a cast on stitch ? is it a cable cast on ? Another question, I'm going to use a 7 stitches per 10 rows wool tension for a 10*10 and a 10mm needle for everything How many rows and stitches must I have to make this scarf ? Thank you very much for your reply or any sort of help :D I really love your scarf though, very well made and neat
This is really easy to fallow tutorial Thanks. Would you please tell me how many ball of yarns did you use for that size of scarf (please specify 50gr or 100gr) ?
I love this! Your videos are so clear and helpful. Only trouble is I am having some difficulty finding needles this size for a very similar wool. Where did you find yours?
I got mine locally but you could try Ebay as they do have 15mm ones for sale there when I did a quick look. Etsy appear to do beautiful wooden ones in a US size 19 which would also be fine to use on this project. If you dig a little on line you will be able to find them under circular needles. The longer the better to help hold in all those stitches! (I would personally prefer wooden ones if I was going to purchase another set).
Hello, I’m making this on 15mm 80cm needle but I’ve only knitted half of the first row and my circular needle is almost completely full. Am I doing something wrong or should it be very squashed?
Please can you help me? i would like to order this wool to make a scarf like yours. Can you tell me how many grams of wool did you spend to make it? And thanks for videos i learned so much from you!

Approximately how many stitches would I need to cast on to make a throw. I'm using a Super Bulky #6 yarn, 15mm needle and would like my finished project to be approximately 5ft wide and 6 ft long.
Can You tell me the tension and needle size recommended on the ball band of your bulky yarn and I will try and give you an approximate guide. The Herringbone Scarf in this video casts on and off in the needle size recommended on the ball band, but then moves onto needles that are 50 per cent larger. I would really recommend experimenting with the needle size to get the feel of the throw nice and supple. Have you got the free written instructions? Below is gauge and needle from the band. Thank you for your help.. About how many yards would you think I'd need? Lion Brand Hometown USA Yarn Fiber Content: 94% Acrylic, 6% Rayon in El Paso Autumn & Little Rock Granite; 100% Acrylic in all other colors Weight/Yardage: 113 g / 64 yds in El Paso Autumn & Little Rock Granite; 140 g / 81 yds in all other colors Knitting Weight: 6-Super Bulky Knit Gauge: 9 stitches x 12 rows = 4 inches on size 13 needles Care Instructions: Machine wash and tumble dry Made in the United States
For a width of 5ft (152cm), I would expect to cast on 148sts and I would carry on working until I have the 6ft, (183cm) in length required. I personally would do a test piece of knitting by casting on 74sts to check if this would be a satisfactory width when doubled. I would also count how many balls of yarn are used to get to 4in, (10cm) into order to get a yarn usage estimate. For this test swatch, I would use the size US:13 needles to cast on and bind off and I would try using a size US:19 needle for the main pattern. Good luck with your project!
Oh my God I could n't believe my eyes reading your lovely reply .I' m sooooo happy that u r alright .Enjoy your time.May God Lord Jesus bless your life Thank you so much.Wish to see more videos.
Does anyone have any idea of how to seam or graft the ends of herringbone together? I wanted to knit a flat piece, but now want to have a circle scarf..
When deciding to design this scarf set in Herringbone Stitch, I did hope that it would appeal to both men and women. I knitted one for my husband and he seems to like it!
Hello, I tried to do this stich as a scarf. Now it rolls its sides inside. How can I stop it from happening? what am I doing wrong? the pattern seems right :c
@@TheCastingOnCouch I did it by mistake, but the "middle" of the scarf stays rolled. The beginning is somewhat straight, as longer it goes to the middle it curls itself to the inside. I now want to try to knit a selvedge at both side ends. Let's see how this works out. Thanks for your fast reply tho! If you have any more suggestions, I would love to know about them :)
+Amelia Petersen No worries.....Remember to only slip one of your stitches off the left needle, retain one and keep working through the back loops as you knit two together. Good luck!

I think it's because instead of casting on 20-30 stitches and knitting the length of the scarf, she chose to cast on 200 stitches to get the length, and then only knitted the width.
Soo sh I feel so lucky to have such lovely knitters noticing that I haven’t been uploading lately! I am very well thank you. I have been enjoying new hobbies and haven’t been knitting so much lately......but I will be back uploading soon ♥️
Kirsty Jane - I did a very simple hat once in Herringbone stitch that I made as a tube in the round. I sewed it across at the top, then in an origame style, I folded the sewn out points into the centre and attatched a pom pom.

Just perfect, as usual... I love following your video tutorials, because you explain so well. Thanks for sharing another beautiful stitch.
Best Herringbone stitch pattern ever! Thank you for sharing this! Finally able to accomplish this beautiful pattern 🥰
Lovely! I thought this stitch type is difficult. You explained sooo well! ❤️😊

I will try this right away.
Greetings from Argentina!
This was wonderfully informative!!! Thank you! I’ve only been knitting since the start of the year and this was just lovely!
Thank you
Kathleen Vassallo Fantastic! Hope you get around to knitting this with me in the future.

Another amazing video. You are such a great instructor, thank you for sharing!
Perfect instructions and annotations. Thank you.
Many thanks!
If I leave the project for a few days, how could I know if I should cast from the front or the back?
Oh my god, I LOVE her hair!!
Your videos are always so helpful!
Wow that looks great love how you made it draped. I’m wondering if your going to teach brioche in the round or 2 colour brioche I’d love to learn that too 🙏😊💕

Hey, sister nice knitting design. Thank you for this tutorial. I learned something from this video.
Man, only tutorial that actually said increase the needle size!! I tried with several and it was so tight I couldn't do it
Love your videos 👍🏾❤️👍👍🏿👍👍🏿
Thanks for sharing
This is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.... As a scarf I think Herringbone stitch works so beautifully when worked down the piece. Shows the stitch off a treat!

Very Nice - As always!! Thanks ....
Is it necessary to bind off in pattern? What will happen if I do a basic knit stitch bind off? Thanks!
which cast on method did you use, to correlate to this tight tension stitch?
Hi, this is fantastic!! Could you increase the amount you cast on and make this a blanket? How long would you think this would take?
It would make a great blanket. It would be very heavy though, and take anything upwards of 4 weeks. I have free written instructions from my website that may help you calculate the width. Good luck!

This is awesome.
Please please do the sweater tutorial.

minal sampat yes, I used a cable cast on. Check out my tips in the video on how to calculate this by using the ball band tension.

This is really easy to fallow tutorial Thanks. Would you please tell me how many ball of yarns did you use for that size of scarf (please specify 50gr or 100gr) ?
I ended up having to use three balls myself. Not much needed of the third one though - but necessary if big yarn like she has here.

how long did it take to knit this
iloveoreos - I would allow at least two weeks. (Think I made this within one week.)
