    OH MY GOSH! Your video is absolutely wonderful! I saw this stitch and really wanted to try it but I'm a total rookie. Every other video showing how to do this stitch begins "teaching" it AFTER they've already knitted about 5" of material. You are the only one who started at the very beginning and now I feel like i can do it. And by the way, your video was NOT slow, it was perfect! And if the viewers want to speed a UA-cam video up, they've just got to select a faster playback speed (click on the icon that looks like a gear and make your choice--you can also slow a playback down). As a silly side note, I initially wanted to use this stitch to cover the metal square handrail next to the steps leading to my front door because the metal gets so hot you can't touch it. I'm going to try using Paracord to do it (and I wanted this stitch because it sort of looks Navy to me, so homage to my husband if I can do it). But after watching your video, I also want to see if I can make a poncho using it too (with DK yarn). Thank you so very much for taking the time and effort to create this video for people like me--big dreams to do things, but not sure how to get off the starting blocks.

    I needed to see from the casting on ....

      You can just use any regular cast-on and then you start right into the herringbone stitch as shown, I personally like to use the long tail cast-on but anything you normally do will work fine!

    Really good explanation. l would love to know how you decrease the number of stitches when knitting things like the hat.

      That's a really good question, and there might be a better answer than this one- but I mostly just freestyle it and try to go in the general zig zag direction of the knitting!

    Only the first row knitting in front loop and all succesive rows knitting in back loop ?

    • @blackcatknitco
      @blackcatknitco  3 роки тому +3

      No, you just alternate every other row through the front, very other through the back! Thanks for pointing that out :)

    Can you explain how your tail is on the same side of the needle as your working yarn? How is that possible ?

    Sorry - 1 more question. Which is the best way to cast off herringbone, if you don't incorporate a cuff, or border? And would you change to appropriate-sized needles, or stick with the larger size? Thank you!

    for an infinity scarf that I can wrap around twice, how many stitches should I cast on?

    • @alannap4704
      @alannap4704 3 роки тому

      I would love to help, but it will depend on a lot of factors- the size and type of yarn you're using, the needle size, gauge, and how wide you'd like your scarf to be. I would recommend Ravelry as a fantastic resource for finding patterns! There are lots of infinity scarves on there :)

    Did you cast on an even or odd number of stitches for this demonstration video?

    • @blackcatknitco
      @blackcatknitco  Рік тому +2

      I'm not actually sure, but it really doesn't matter! As you can see with this stitch it will work with any multiple of stitches. Hope that helps! 😊

  • @alexandraabraham6698

    Hi, excuse me, late to the party here, just to confiirm - number of stitches,doesn’t matter, odd or even; and -
    1 row through front of stitches, 1 row through back of stitches, which presumably alters the slant of the stitches, row by row, hence the herringbone...? Pretty sure that's a yes to both, but just making sure...

    • @blackcatknitco

      Lol I'm presonally not a magic loop fan regardless, but I reckon if you like magic loop it would be doable! :)
