This song comes from a very special place.
There is something majestic about being able to express emotion without saying a single word.
No words needed when you can make a fretboard talk and reach into a soul with something magic!!
Right up there with Pat Metheny. Magic fingers 👏🎶👍
This is a rare modern masterpiece expressing pain and loss beyond belief. Words do not express, but every time I hear this I think of my mom who I lost in 2016. You are so missed momma❤
Lost my dad March this year 2023
Lost my Dad in '92 and my Mom in 2008. I was her caregiver from 2005 to 2008 and I watched a vibrant and gregarious woman who was active in her church to a pale, used up shadow that I barely recognized. But in the end, I saw her... not as she was, but when she married my Dad... a young, 20ish graduate of UT with the whole world before her and WW II to win. I miss them both, but especially her because she "got" me. Thanks for your music Calum. I'm 100% sure my Mom would have loved to have heard you.
@@lexusmaxus sorry to hear this. Folks are really hard to lose (if you have a good relationship with them anyway)
@@brianm744 my mom and I were very close, much closer than I was to my dad (whom I also lost in September 2019). Mom was in church and praising God 2 days before she passed. As a person of faith myself, the only reason it is less painful is because I know she is home with Jesus ❤️
Michael Manring's contribution is as always, exactly what is needed. A most beautiful piece.
Who’s here in 2024 this is so transcendent & timeless
Those bass strings produce actually more tears in my eyes than any other song i ever heard. Thanks Calum for playing our lives on this wonderful instrument. ❤
I have found heaven!
Musical Heaven? Yes, beautiful song!❤
I couldn't hold back the tears, it's like I had a flashback from my early childhood to now in my late 50's. I want this played at my funeral as a Farewell. Cheers to the greatest guitar player I've ever heard!!
For a moment I forget all of life's problems; find peace and happiness. Your gift is much to appreciate... Thank You!
If you feel peace a happiness when you hear this song, you don’t get the song. There is nothing peaceful or happy about it. This song is terribly sad.
@@Michael-jw6et I was not able to be with my father when he passed away unexpectedly, and felt very sad about that for many years, until I heard this song, which is titled "Farewell", and thru the melody and beauty of this wonderful song I was able to find a bridge between my sorrow and my Dad's peace. I feel a connection with my father which gives me peace and joy, melded with the loss and sorrow, so we hear the same song, and each of us takes away our own meaning and emotion.
10to1imjokin You are right. I know music is subjective. I just don’t understand the peace part of it. It’s literally the only song that I can’t listen to without breaking down. No other song does that to me. Not only does it bring back the sorrow of loss I have experienced, but it causes me to visualize and picture the loss of people who are not even gone yet..
@@Michael-jw6et Just because the song is entitle "Farewell" doesn't mean one should immediately associate it with people passing on. This song is well written, and it brings pieces regardless. Can be listen in any moods if that strikes you. Well done Calum.
@@Michael-jw6et maybe what he mean is he can get through problems and grief by hearing this music
This performance is what marks the difference between a great musician, and an Artist. This is transcendent. Thank you.
I've requested this piece to be played at my Celebration of Life
Oh my god! wow
This is the birth of a new son man, a new life.
Farewell in my judgement is the wrong description for this.
I've heard Mike Dawes Encomium and that's the most Melancholic music for me.
This my man,
is the most fluttering music ever!
From what I remember a past posting said about this song (the details could be wrong but I think are close), a couple that were dear friends of Calum had a son who contracted cancer at the age of 15 and a year later he passed away, leaving his parents devastated. Calum wrote this in memory of their son. Who will we leave behind to remember us? To cherish our memory? Thanks Calum for expressing what words can never really capture...
He is a Phenominal Artist.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard!
I have better days when I listen to Calum's music.
I had the extreme privilege to see him perform this @ 20 Front Street in Lake Orion, Michigan.
He signed his new cd for us and even took a picture with my wife and I. A very gifted and wonderful young man.
Calum what a beautiful piece of music. I hope to hear more of this you have such a talent. God bless Mark
believe me, if I tell you that you made me cry for the emotion with this beautiful music of yours. thanks
Same. I was stunned to tears at it's beauty.
Same too. I cried and my heart and mind was full. Such depth.
This is the kind of song/video that makes you ask.... why can I only like a video once? Or... where is the giant sized like button, you know, the one that fills the entire screen!
This makes me think of my friend that recently passed away. I'll miss you buddy.
The worst thing about this song...is that it had to end. My heart both swells and breaks; finding out why it was written makes total sense. Thank you for writing this Calum.
Angel's music....Heart's music.....My music. Such beautiful music HAS to be Celestial.
Amazing depth and range of feeling. Impeccable technique, the feeling shines through. A national treasure at such a young age who makes me proud to be Canadian, to be human.
One of the most beautiful performances and one of the most beautiful compositions for acoustic guitar.
I would love to hear your take on it
@@gnutix Granted... on Michael Chapdelaine's YT channel, since 12 may. 2020...;-)
I hope that my farewell is as peaceful and serene.
this is wy this man is head and shoulders above the pack of new guitarists.
I bow deeply to the beauty you give to life.
Michael Hedges is alive and well in the heart of Calum Graham. Beautiful, Calum. Couldn't have a better bass player either.
How about Calum Graham producing a full dvd set of his work. That way I can put it on the telly and mellow out at home while the speakers fill my house with wonderment and peace.
When Angels cry, when they sing. When God Loves the Balladeer.
It's all too certain that For the"Love of God." "We Welcome the freedom to choose our fates...
Astonishing ! Whaou I'm falling down facing this pure perfection soul expression
I'm in awe...brother, you have chops beyond belief... please keep playing and please keep listening, Don Ross, Leo, etc.. thanks so much...
The saying "hearts strings" comes to mind and yes they are being tugged at the moment! Thank you Michael!
"loop" is my favourite feature.
Bro you deserve 1 billion of likes, nevertheless, the likes you have, are pure and sincere. Congrats, you are my idol.
I've played guitar for more than 55 years and this is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard coming from a stringed instrument. Simply outstanding. Such a gift. I was so very moved. Thank you.
Few songs have ever left me speechless.
Exquisite
The whole world stops when I listen to this piece. Tears are running down the cheeks. Absolute perfection and beauty. Thank you !
No more comments? This is very strange to me. This is a bit of Bach, its a bit of Beethoven, a bit of samuel Barber. A bit of everything that is good. I think this is your best piece yet Mr. Graham.
Makes me feel glad to be alive.
So beautiful and moving, Calum. I recall when Michael Hedges was recording and occasionally touring with Michael Manring, 30 years ago. You currently being my favorite guitarist, it makes me so happy to see you working with him - because as I've followed your music and your musical development for the past three years or so, I've been certain that you are of that same world-class caliber. You deserve to be right in there recording with the likes of Manring and others on that level, like Don Ross. I feel a sense of joy that you are in the world and creating such beauty in your music. And I look forward to listening for many years to come. Hope you make it out the Bay Area soon!
Cet instrument ne te quittera jamais ! La douceur de tes doigts et la complicité de ton âme rendent cette mélodie divine ! Merci pour cet adorable moment de paix !
I was with bad thoughts in my mind and after hear this masterpiece i got better.
you're note selection is truly unique. your melodies are simple enough to hum but your progression and use of harmonics and note placement is unmatched. i watch your music and i just wanna sell all the amps the electric guitars and pick up the acoustic and just make RAW music that just feeds the emotional part of our soul
I was lost somewhere in some happy afternoon melody the whole time I was hearing this..... ❤
A moving masterpiece! Tender, pensive, and rejuvenating!
Depressed people should listen to this an know that it reflects a happiness that it is possible to have. Love to all
The bass wow..it just took me somewhere out of reality
The legendary Michael Manring my friend
Sometimes I hear words to this song "to come take you home"....
Flying high over the mountain peaks with the sun casting a rosy glow. Drifting down low to touch the downy fresh snow. Takes me to the place of my dreams...up to glorious scenes. Wind blowing strong through my hair, released letting go of any worry or care.
Beautiful guitar. Thank you so much for sharing your gift.
If you ever hear a distant guitar playing along I think it's Michael Hedges making sure the torch is passed!
MASTERPIECE!
Songs that touch the soul.
Insanely beautiful song...
What bewitchingly beautiful sound quality your harp guitar has-the typical 6 or 12 string can't even come close!
Choosing to add Michael Manring to this arrangement is epic.
every song blows me away
I really enjoyed your performance of "Farewell". Thank you for posting it for all of us to enjoy.
Beautiful song. Not too shabby having one of the best bassists playing on the track.
fantastic,beautiful.....
I still think this is your best piece. Your best work.
I have watched this video so many times. I've cried, smiled, laughed, and enjoyed this music. I just had a close family friend pass as well (my best friend in fact). I wrote a song about him as well. I can see your soul in this. I see the relationships you created with the people in this. Thank you for sharing with us your raw emotions through music. :)
Dude this is stunningly good. That change is brilliant. Wonderful payoff.
This poem is written from my reaction to Mr Graham's poetic ability to paint words into my mind with his guitar. His rendition of Farewell was the result. Thank you, sir.
Meandering slowly thru the cosmos
I stumbled onto a thing they call a UA-cam
Whereupon an old soul; seemingly young
Played his age old tune of Farewell
I then fell into a dream where the tune filled
The firmament and within all my senses
Again I watched as my love moved slowly
Into the dark distance, then gone
Alone again I wandered the universe
In a unending attempt to find my love
But alas she was not to be found
In an unending herald I called to her
But in vane as her final words were
The foreverence of Farewell
Farewell your arms
Farewell your smile
Farewell my love
My heart tis thine
To have and hold forevermore
Farewell
Hey Butler, you are a good poet.
Oscar Alcaraz Spinola: Thanks OAS;) I should have stuck with poetry on the side. Altho, I did stay with guitar 🎸😁
Thanks for sharing your poem❤️so fine poem👍
Excellent composition. Getting Manring to feature adds that extra something special.
This song is great enough on its own, but to also hear it being backed up with Michael Manring's fretless bass, it gives the listener goosebumps.
Splendid!
I arrived home a couple of days ago from Toronto Western Hospital after two major neurological interventions and dialled up this video. It helped me transcend my current plight. The music is stately and mature. Calum Graham's playing is heartwarming. Thank you!
Wow thank you +Trevor Burt and hope your ok!! Much love
You're very welcome. I'm gaining strength every day and the times I listen to this piece are helping me to heal as well as inspiring me to play again myself. So you see, Calum Graham, how much good your music does for people like me. It's a wonderful gift.
It’s rare that a song brings a tear to my eye the this did. Simply beautiful.
Amazing Sound !
My new favorite song from Calum. Incredibly evocative. Just an amazing composer. And Michael Manring adds so much to this version of the song. Also loved his work with Michael Hedges, too.
Can't believe it took me so long to run across this clip. Speaking as a bassist, Michael Manring is one of my heroes. Tony Karol is my favourite luthier, especially when it comes to his harp guitars. Antoine is a terrific player, and did an excellent job on this production. It's so great that all of that goodness is there in support of Callum's song and expressive playing. This is like a little slice of heaven!
Perfect, simply just perfect
Beautiful music!
There is no way for me to describe the experience I just had hearing this artist for the first time. That was stunning. It put me at peace.
If you can listen to Tabula Rasa from him, it was the very first song I heard of him and I absolutely loved it :)
Such a beautiful piece of work.❤❤❤❤❤
Farewell is always beautiful and sweet to hear, but with Michael Manring, it's an other world. Thanks for these moments of grace !
Funny how much Michael Manring looks like Calum's right thumb.
From now on , I always listen to this song when my Tinder match doesn't answer anymore. Awesome.
E quando pensi che la musica sia finita scopri invece che può darti ancora tanta emozione!
Calum......One for the ages! Nothing flamboyant except the musicianship and expression of a true lover of beauty. Thank you!
Goosebumps here. So talented, so perfect. Thank you
Beautiful music. I never knew that harp guitars even exsisted until about 3 days ago when I saw a video that came up on UA-cam. You are so gifted.
magnificent
I'm six seconds into this video and I've liked it already.
Sheer beauty! Graham has such an extraordinary sensibility toward melodic and harmonic flows in his original pieces. He's truly brilliant and such a blessing to the music of the world.
I don't know why this song, but I absolutely cannot make it through without crying like a baby. It's a devastating song to me.
I know Michael Manring is a beast player. But here with Calum, everything just feels so good.
One of the most beautiful harp guitar pieces I've ever heard
Simply Beautiful music!
Excellent, incomparable!!
Your music gets better as you get older !
the older u r the wiser u r the wiser u r the better music u make
@@Bookwormed Agree. I notice more feeling on every string, in addition to the previous technique...
I feel like I'm sitting out by a massive ocean contemplating on where I am and what will be. Very nice.
The BEST
What a artist this man is. I have followed this man a few years now and... He just getting better and better. Thank you mr. Graham.
I usually curb my emotions. I couldn't with this masterpiece.
every once in a while you start really being proud of your own playing again and then someone like that appears and you feel like you've only just startet playing. just wow!
What a mastering.
