Calum is playing a Leviora Carbon Fiber Guitar in this video : leviora-guitars...
Recorded on a Beauregard, and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Antoine Dufour.
Video by Joanna Glezakos : www.vengenza.ca/
I remember my dad playing Calum Graham songs on guitar and it was so hard for me to learn them since I was used to handling picks since I mostly play heavy songs... Truly a wonderful guitarist, this man is... God bless your soul good sir.
This is probably one of the most amazing pieces I have ever seen for guitar. It's not only beautiful, it takes amazing levels of skill and not only shows off how good an ear the artist has for a cool tune, it also shows off tons of skill.
Amazing.
He´s one of the only solo acoustic guitarists who has a constant melody in his songs... big respect for this dude.
YEAH
This is definetely one of my favourite songs on Candyrat Records and of all fingerstyle guitarist songs. Sometimes fingerstyle guitarists are incredibly talented, and just have crazy chops and stuff, but they just don't resonate with me. This one does though! I am placed into another place in the world, where there are no walls and cities, somewhere high on a mountain, where I can see the icy clouds, and the occassional raindrops falling on my head, while contemplating about life.
And this is definetely one of the songs that inspires me to not only see how fast I can play and what skills I can do, but what the emotion behind it is. Makes me focus on "What does it evoke?" instead of "Can I play this faster? or "Can I do more things at the same time?"
I think the point of knowing all kinds of techniques in any music style in the end is to use them to serve a song, and to create emotions and places and times that were previously not known of, or even to recreate existing emotions and places and times.
Thanks a whole lot for sharing!
I think art of any kind is made with two intentions: To convey an idea or emotion, and to be interpreted. The artist is responsible for what the piece may try convey, while the audience is responsible for how it is actually perceived, and that perception is inevitably going to be different from the initial intention and between each person in some way, even if it is minor. The artist only has vague or incomplete control over how a piece will make a person feel, and they only know for certain how it makes them feel, and even that initially perceived feeling can change over time, lost. For this reason, I feel it's pointless to linger on what a piece is supposed to make me feel, and just take the feeling that comes. And I feel music artists that have a wide array of techniques to have, at their disposal, the potential to invoke greater and more complex emotions and imagery with their playing. But in the end, how well they actually utilize their many techniques and skills makes all the difference. A great guitarist has perfect play, knows all the techniques, and knows every nook and cranny of their instrument like the back of their hand. A masterful guitarist knows how to best and most creatively make use of that information.
Exactly! Same to me. Just now, I've listened to another talented guy. It was unbelievable what he performed with guitar but it was mostly about skill, nice melody and strong rhytm. So then I played this song and said to myself...yes, about this it is...that song could take you from the ground and bring you up in the skyes. For me, one of the best contemplative songs ever.
You mentioned it. This is one of the best fingerstyle I've heard in a while.
who wrote the song btw? no offence but a person wrote this and your giving credit to a damn label. i get what you said but callum grahm wrote this song clearly not to impress people on the look of the song and speed of doing so.
Please watch n hear the playing from Indonesian Fingerstyle ALIP BA TA, he good
25 years after mastering the guitar, you hear this and decide to take up gardening
In case I get your words right, I pretty much like that kinda humor. Cheers!!
😂
Man do I know that feeling! However, there is space for all of us. Music doesn’t necessarily have to be complex to move and inspire others.
Lmfao
😂 He is very good. But the delay makes the piece sound more complex than it is.
from a family of gutarists, I can honestly appreciate the awesomeness if this incredible artist.
I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO THIS
I must have listened to this 1.1 million times by now and it is still as brilliant as it was the first time!
Me and you both, almost puts you in a trance like state.
i swear the more i hear it the more i love it that part from 1:45 is pure eargasm
that is one of the most beautiful uses of a decay/reverb combo I have ever heard!
Corey Webber without a doubt. just enough to let the notes ring out in such a subtle manor
I haven't enough words to describe this. That control of tapping, control of volume and that freaking delay! This album is one of my favourite in the whole music now
Epic.
+Jon Gomm Hi Jon, do you have any new music in the works? :)
Jon Gomm is the definition of epic that passionflower song is insane.
My Master
Jon Gomm .
Jon Ghomm
No lo puedo creer
Waw
😍
I am addicted to this song. There is not a single day passing by without listening and watching this video, it just doesn't get any better than this. Thanks Calum.....
This song paints a picture in my head. A picture of a man on a journey for redemption. A man who's suffered much but will eventually conquer all.
one word: Snape
technically he didnt live to see that he conquered all, but he turned the tides of the battle
Wonderful tribute to Hedges and a soulful composition. Love the playful melody with the ostinado patterns. Peace and blessings, brother. 🙏🏻
Calums compositions are so incredible because they put musicality first. I love to see highly technical stuff with a clear priority for good melody. He just hits this sweet spot like only few players are able to. Great work as always, keep 'em coming!
Right on, Bro... I couldn't agree more. Well said!
The most talented guitarist I have heard in many, many years. He conveys emotion with his playing that only genius can produce. I respect that he worked hard to get better as a singer, but it is his guitar playing that is beyond good. I hope he remembers that, as his career gets bigger. He is one of the few, that I look forward to seeing live. Please come to the northeastern United States.
A lovely tribute to🕊 Michael Hedges🎻“The Nomad”
“Heaven is all around~Translated to sound”🕊
Man, that part from 1:03 to 1:15 is so good! I wonder why he didn't repeat that a few times..
it makes it that much more powerful!
I listend to this a couple of weeks back, and I had just some some weed. Now, and this is the important part, I had been clean almost the entire year, only smoked 3 times I think. And I did smoke for 10 years, well anyway.
Listening to this after being baked the first time in quite a while, well that was a good experience. The reverb and echo on the guitar, and just the guitar in itself, makes is sound so... I don't know how to describe it, big, massive? And then those notes that bend, well yeah. I love this, seriously good.
I have honestly been looping this one now for 45 minutes while reading a web novel
Michael smile from Heaven and, as me, he thank you to give us a music like that.
It's magic and the spirit of "aerial boundaries" is clearely present.
This music is a masterpiece
Still here after what, 4 or 5 years? This is one of the thing I ever heard in the world. This masterpiece is no more simply a guitar song anymore. It's a true interpretation of what we call "Music".
This is somewhow the most MAGICAL fingerstyle song Ive ever heard. Listened over 50times this and always coming back. That atmosphere is taking me into wildlands where nomads are wandering around the desert and fighting for their survival at ancient times. Just awesome thx!
Love it!!! In my opinion, the best part is 2:09 - 3:03 SO AMAZING!!!
When the camera starts zooming in......goosebumps! Great song Calum, you are a truly talented guitarist!
Absolutely spectacular. Michael Hedges would be in awe.
As soon as you hit the first bass note, brought a tear to my eye. For what is and what will never be. Beautiful. Such a complete song.
Fantastic, Calum. This is badass. I met Michael in 1981, and so dig what you've created. I'm pretty sure he's smiling as well.
I love your music, i tried to type all this a min ago but it got deleted.... anyway... keep up the wonderful work, we all love it and want more. you are such a talented artist and we all want to hear more..... dont let anyone keep you down... you are wonderful... and your music makes us all feel great... love you, thank you
This song completely took my breath away.... so enchanting.... so captivating.... so unique.... so stunning.... so rich.... I absolutely experienced 5 minutes of pure heaven on earth through this gorgeous song.
A genuinely heartfelt thank you to Calum for writing and sharing this masterpiece!!
💋 Much gratitude, much LOVE 💋
+Jessica H lebenslangershicksalshatz!!!
Just went back and listened to Hedges' Aerial Boundaries, and then listened to this. What a beautiful tribute this song is. Michael Hedges impacted so many guitarists over the last 35 years. So many cite him as a huge influence, even guys that are/were his contemporaries like Phil Keaggy. Heck, he was Windham Hill, it seemed like.
You're blessed with the gift Calum! So young and so talented. You already have numorous beautiful compositions and you're just adding more as if it's so easy. Commanding a guitar is one aspect, creating beautiful compositions is something else and is a gift for just a few. You're one of them, obviously.
When I first heard this, I honestly thought it was Luca. Now I've got another guy to listen to. With the effects and the echo, this is an unbelievable collaboration of Art and brilliance. Once again I want to thank these guys for opening up my mind...
wow this was very nice! I actually stopped watching candyrat videos because most of it was new guitarists trying to show of their playing skills. Finally some good music again
+Kevin Toine same reason
Donovan Raitt though? Come on, His Unique Style Is Amazing!!!!
I love that this man dont "jerk" of his guitar. There is tone and purpose and melody. You got my wote man.
Had the privilege to see Michael Hedges on many occasions in the mid 70's in pubs and small venues while he attended Peabody in Baltimore. To the drinking crowds he was just background noise ,but I knew I was listening to an artist. I think I have spotted a new Michael.
JD810Taylor - I was in Jo's Organic Bar, which later became the 8x10 in Federal Hill in the 70's, sitting not 8 feet in front of Michael as he played. Some moron decided he did'nt like the music and plugged in the juke box. The only time I ever saw Michael upset.
Amazing skill, dexterity and expression. Calum has risen to the top and stayed there. He is a true outlier. My favorite for years...
ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING THINGS I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If heaven is music translated then I am there when I am listening to this piece. Absolutely magnificent sound Calum.
Couldn't take my eyes off this video...everything about it was beautiful.
I’ve seen Calum play live a couple of times and each time he played this song it took my heart and soul to a place full of very happy tears. Very nice composition. Wonderful hands telling a beautiful story.
I bet this piece makes driving through a blizzard with your brights on feel like you're cruising into a different dimension.
Jeff Stump I love that thought
I’ve been playing for over 40 years. “ I’m speechless that’s so amazing
That's amazing! I also love the custom carbon fiber guitar!
I live for carbon fiber strings
Eddie van der Meer wow EVDM really commented on him
@@ashishkhatiwada7536 EVDM is almost nothing compared to Candyrat guitarists though lol.
@@pavanbhat3861 am just a fan of EVDM and am not comparing them.
Both are legends ♥️.
But who are you to judge him?
@@ashishkhatiwada7536 Well okay. I mean you're comment seemed like Calum was supposed to feel honoured that Eddie commented lmao. Also, welcome to the internet. Anyone is allowed to judge here. By the way, I respect Eddie a lot as a guitarist if you had thought otherwise.
you sir are a legend. i knew it the moment i met you. collaborating with the likes of you is an honor.
the future is ours
Awesome composition as always. Hoping to see a video for 'Lighthouse' too, definitely my favourite from the album.
The Harmonics at 2:04 😍😍😍 ... never heard such clear harmonics , the delay and reverb just add more awesomeness to it .. just Wow !!
You are a master at work Calum! Michael Hedges would be super proud of your development over the last 6 years mate!
This is what we love about acoustic music. Beautiful piece, Calum, and a most worthy tribute.
that might be the best thing I've ever heard on a guitar
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard!😯
Makes me feel like I'm on some fantasy adventure, a magical journey through an epic land in another deminsion. It's so beautiful 🥹🥲❤️🔥
Incredible composition, great mixing, every note is distinctly audible. Instant masterpiece!
Calum is and will always be one of the best things on offer from candyrat
Delay is a nice tool in this piece, indeed! Very appropriate!
Awesome song. I love Calum Graham´s compositions. This song and the "Phoenix Rising" are my favorite one...
Words cannot describe how amazing this is.
I was turned into Windom Hills label in the 70s, Ackerman was brilliant, but hedges just blew me away. used aerial boundaries as the theme music to as play I directed. Graham is the first guitarist I've heard since hedges who plays with a. combination of brilliant composition, technique and emotion. big fan.
Beautiful piece! Calum Graham is at the top of the list for brilliant guitarist-composers. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece.
Susan Botich Yes indeed
Apart the execution skills what i love about this is the songwriting.
composition and Antoine's work on mixing and mastering are mind blowing !
Best thing I have heard in a long time from anybody. Bravo!
Having been playing guitar since I was 8. Music has evolved. Incredible what some can do with a wooden instrument and 6 strings😮 love the performance ❤❤❤❤
This is so amazing beautiful. I have listened to this throughout my day far beyond Ariel Boundaries thank you for ths gift!
Its a Tonewood amp
Just fabulous!!! Michael Hedges influenced but all your own Calum. Please continue to keep his spirit alive! Thank you
Cynthia Marr Yes the music makes me feel to love 💓 again
Calum Hedges - The son of the legend
+Caleb Kyle Claro HOla FFG Here
+Caleb Kyle Claro so interesting to see this :)
Amazing how someone who achieved a high level in something, comes back to the simple (sounds, in this case) and makes it so elegant to others.. Inspiring
Mesmerizing! Such a great piece and it put me in mind of Michael Hedges in all the best way - great job Calum!
Sonically, that is one of the coolest guitar tunes I've ever heard! Awesome!
Perfect !
I have been playing this track for the past 2 months at least once a day. Very very highly addictive. What's an amazing composition
Have been waiting for a new Calum song! Must get my hands of those tabs.
This song is stunning. I listened to it over and over and over again. So beautiful...... It is as though the guitar is an extension of your body; of who you are. Just wonderful.
Dodo H yes indeed good
most inspirational thing seen in a while!
Sounds like Michael Hedges who I saw once live and was completely blown away. I think Michael was the originator f of the whole 2 handed "piano" style of guitar playing, incorporating tapping, finger picking, natural, and slapping harmonics.
Amazing composition, Calum! Nice inlay on the 12th fret :)
He is magic. He is illumination in its PUREST form, he is a gift of pure bliss directly from GOD .JESUS. ALL THAT IS LOVE . ALL THAT is GOOD
The entire song was epic, but at 0:52 - 0:55, was legendary.
You mean 1:04 - 1:18 ?
TrustNo1 (Shattered Blooms) Nope
+Ricardo Cardoso You should have! :-D
TrustNo1 (Shattered Blooms) Nah, that was my favorite part :D
You mean 0:00 - 4:45?
I lost my faith in 1997 when MH left us ... I am recovering it again with young & brilliant guys like you, if I ever travel to outer space..this one is top ten for the journey...
Very classy music and playing.
Beyond technique and innovation, the music coming out of your guitar goes straight to my soul.
You, like another cutting-edge acoustic axeman, Jon Gomm, are taking the acoustic guitar to wonderful horizons that keep unfolding ever more magical for those who may want to trudge on your journey.
Count me in as your follower.
May you stay brilliantly lit always.
Wooooo new Calum!!!!! we've been waiting brother
Michael Hedgrs got me into fingerstyle, calum honors that legacy with talent, skill and emotion...props to a verrry talented artist.
This took my breath away.
So beautiful, such amazing tone, and incredible skills and technique.
I salute you Calum. ❤️
Me as well; I had an acoustic playlist going and this song began to play and I set down my sketchbook and pencil and was kinda blown away for a while after
This album is really beautiful, i guess is my favourite album of Calum. I feel a little Jon Gomm influence but maybe is for the sound of the delay, to be exact is "Hey child". Excellent production and sound! i loved!
Soul touching Thank you
I discovered your music 2or3 years ago and am still blown away by your amazing music. I wish more true artist could be heard instead of the mainstream garbage!
Bravo Calum. Nice tribute to Hedges.
Michael Chapdelaine
Thank you Candyrat Records for providing such amazing and creative and performers!!!
I've now listened to this 5 times straight. P H E N O M E N A L
This is some of the most beautiful plays ive ever heard on guitar
Excellently played and great audio engineering.
Please notice that the guitar you 'see' in the video is the Leviora carbon fiber, BUT the actual soundtrack you 'hear' has been recorded on a Beauregard wood guitar (probably cedar/rosewood by the sound of it), the usual luthier of Antoine Dufour (Antoine also did the engineering, mixing and mastering). It's written in the description. Maybe you already noticed that.
Cheers !
All my hair is giving this a standing ovation! ❤️❤️❤️
You are the only person yet I've heard that can match Hedges touch (not even McKee can do it). Outstanding.
Goose bumps at 1:05
The first time I heard this I had no clue what the title was because I was just listening beginning to end and it literally sounded like traveling through the cold like it would've been the soundtrack to The Revenant or some movie taking place in the barren wilderness. Great job Calum! Great composition
You always amaze me with every song! And that's an awesome custom guitar! :D
I just keep coming back to this all the time. Close to 1M listens... Should be tenfold that.
Spectacular! Bravo!!!!!!
This has so much Michael influence in it. It's like aerial boundaries and because it's there rolled into one. With your flare. God this is amazing.
