    01:02 Why are there two different hiragana for 'WA' in "WAtashi WA NNN desu" the second WA looks like HA (hiragana character) - Watashi ha N desu. Is that correct?

    • @Japarrot_LetsLearnJP
      @Japarrot_LetsLearnJP  Рік тому +33

      That's a very good point! The hiragana 'は’ is usually pronounced as 'HA'. However, if it's 'the particle は' , which is attached to the topic of the sentence, it's pronounced as 'WA'. There is also another Japanese particle,
      'へ' which is attached to the place noun to show the direction of move, is pronounced as 'E' although the hiragana 'へ' is usually pronounced as 'HE'.
      I hope this helps!

    I am sooooo grateful that this exists.
    At first, I felt silly because it's like a children's book, but like anything that you learn in life, you have to start easy. I have been learning Japanese for 2 months, and TODAY is the day that I made the connection that Desu and arimasen are direct opposites.
    Thank you Japarrot!!

    • @Japarrot_LetsLearnJP
      @Japarrot_LetsLearnJP  8 місяців тому +3

      That's true that these two sound very similar! But when we use 'Yes' & 'No', it's usually followed by negative /positive sentences or words, so it's actually not as confusing as it sounds! 😊
      (e.g.) うん、そうだよ。(un, soodayo) = Yup, that's right.
      ううん、違う。(uun, chigau)= No, it isn't.

      @@Japarrot_LetsLearnJP I'm not actually taking the exam, I'm just doing this as a hobby and fun, I love learning languages, and Japanese is really kawai and overall badass, and I wanna be able carry out daily conversation and speak fluent(in a sense, I am able to talk to a Japanese native) Japanese and I have read that N3 is usually enough to be able to talk or write Japanese, so that's why I am looking a concise resource, pod101 is good but it's conventional leaning, the way you learn language in school or university, I'm not good with that I get bored and end up slacking, but if it's something like your channel, where it's not just bunch of information thrown at you with a hint that, it's gonna be very useful in the next semester, instead it's intuitive and fun. I have a question; my old Japanese teacher told me that it is ok to use anata unless I know them. For example, she has taught me to say "Anata wa Chu goku jin" and she is Japanese herself so I am little confused if I should or should not use anata now. Or should I just remove anata completely from "Anata was Chu goku jin" to just "Chu goku jin" I hope what I said wasn't confusing
    Oh and something completely unrelated, should I add "desu" after I say something like "Anata wa Kan Koku jin" or "Watashi wa America jin"
    Thank you for helping me with my Japanese with your awesome videos!!😸😸 Arigato gazaimashita!

    • @Japarrot_LetsLearnJP
      @Japarrot_LetsLearnJP  8 місяців тому +5

      Thank you for your question. 'あなた (anata = you)' has a limited usage in spoken Japanese. An older person calling a younger person or his/ her peers 'あなた (anata =you)' is allowed at some extent. However, even in that case, if you know his/her name, it's still better to call someone with '~さん (san=Mr./Ms.)' to show respect and a friendly feeling towards the person. 'あなた (anata=you)' isn't an honorific word, so you can't use it to someone older than you or in the business situation. '~さん (san)' and '様 (sama)'(in the business) are the standard ways to address someone in a polite way in Japanese.
      Regarding the sentence ending 'です (desu)', it's used when you are talking in a polite style of speech. It's omitted when you are talking in a plain (casual) style of speech, such as when you are talking to your close friends. I hope this helps! 😊

      In a classroom setting, you usually learn new grammar with a chapter in a textbook, and then learn kanji from the vocabulary you learned from the chapter. I think learning grammar and kanji together in this way might be the best if that works for you. Otherwise, it really depends on what's your purpose of learning, whether you want to have conversations in Japanese or want to read in Japanese etc..👍
