I went to Japan in 2018 when I only knew a little bit of Japanese. When I got to one of the hotels, I checked in and paid using my limited Japanese. I think the receptionist then thought I was fluent because she started talking and talking and talking. I had no idea what she was saying, so I just smiled and nodded!
I took the wrong bus in Japan and ended up across town at midnight. It was the last bus so I couldn’t get home, and my phone was almost dead. I ended up at a police box (nobody was there) and called the non-emergency number. I was crying and used my best Japanese to explain the situation. The lady on the line was so sweet. About 15 min later 2 police cruisers and 2 motorbikes pulled up and 6 Japanese policemen waltzed into the police station. I think they all got the call and since nothing was going on and they were all bored they came to see what was happening 🤧 it was so embarrassing. I asked them if they could help me call a taxi but they ended up giving me a ride in the police car to where I needed to go.
I've been thinking about searching videos of people just speaking normal Japanese so I can get used to how it sounds and start understanding more from what I hear, I'm glad youtube recommended me this! Very nice and also very calming =]
I studied English for about 10 years and I wanted to start studying japanese since I was 8 because of a childhood friend, but it's pretty difficult finding someone that teaches japanese for beginners, so I'm happy I found you. I can practice my english wile I learn a new lenguage :D I'm brasilian by the way, so I never had the experience of talking to natives of both of the languages
I am from Czech Republic! And I also live in a city where we have alot of shops with trdelníky. When I was smaller, I tried trdelník with ice cream and since it was also a hot summer day, the ice cream dripped all over me. And then out of nowhere a few wasps started to sit one me and eat the ice cream off of me. I rember being super scared. I still laugh about it to this day. I love your podcast and I like to listen to it ,to practice my japanese.
In exchange for Tanaka-san sharing her embarrassing memory when travelling, I would also share my embarrassing memory when I visited Japan a few years ago. So it was my first time in Japan, I was riding the underground train with my mom and dad. The train wasn't very crowded, but all the seats were full, despite that I happened to be lucky to get a seat. Then an elderly man entered the train, he was alone and there were no seats left. I happened to be in front of him, so I get out of my seat and offered him mine. He kept refusing and avoiding eye contact, but me being a KY just thought he was doing that to be polite. He then just left to go to another carriage. I kinda feel bad but don't know what made him upset. After that, my mom pulled me aside and tell me that I might hurt his pride because I was a girl offering him a seat, and it might make him feel weak. I was shocked and felt really bad because maybe I make him feel embarrassed, while also embarrassing myself as a foreigner. I don't know if that is really what the old Japanese men think but this memory would still haunt me to this day. Also still in Japan, and also in the station somewhat, I ran out of train tickets so I needed to buy the ticket pass. At this time I know a little bit of Japanese from watching anime/music, but just the basics. In curiosity, I tried talking to the person selling the ticket in Japanese, that I wanna buy the ticket. He replied to me in Japanese, but I had no idea what he means because he was saying words that I don't know. I know how to ask for something but that was the extent of my knowledge. Obviously, I don't know how to respond and just stutter nervously. I think he got the note that I can't actually speak Japanese and replied to me in a more understandable way.
I lived in Japan for a year and did the same thing several times. Offer my seat to the elderly, I mean. The old men would always stay standing and the seat would remain empty 😂 don’t be embarrassed. I pinkie promise you they literally don’t care. Especially if you’re a foreigner. Whoever you offered your seat to wasn’t offended and their pride wasn’t hurt. Rather, he just refused because it’s the polite thing to do and he didn’t want to trouble you. Don’t let it haunt you!
Same with me. Only I tried to offer my seat to a granny. She refused vigorously and all people in the train stared. I was embarassed and didn't know what to do, so I just sat back, because the train was crowded.)))
I love your voice! Usually whenever I hear a female voice in Japanese their pitch is up in the clouds, so hearing you speak with a lower register is so comfortable.
This was so fun to listen to :D, especially because I have visited Prague so many times (I even plan on going there for uni starting this autumn :D). It's great to listen to story about a place and things I know, but in Japanese :D. Although, I had to rely on subtitles, I can't wait to rewatch again, when I finally understand :D. Thank you for the video
I just discovered you and I'm already loving it. I'll definitely be listening (and watching) your stories for the next few weeks to come. I'd like to thank you for taking the time creating this, it will definitely help me.
I just learned hiragana and have no idea about vocabularies so I didn't understand a single thing but ur voice was so relaxing which kept me listening!
Kinda late but who cares! Hello from Czech Republic! I came here to listen to your podcast while studying. I heard you're saying something about Czechia, but i thought i might be another word in Japanese or smth. But then i heard Praha and was sure you were talking about Czech Republic! I ran to the computer and listened it all again. Your story was soo cute hahaha. Love from Czechia!!
Your radio is very chill and col to listen to, thank you so much for making these podcast, I listen to them while biking to work ! I hope you are going to make more of them ! Thanks again !
I really enjoyed listening to this. Your voice is almost asmr to me Ms. Tanaka. This is my second time to watch all the 7 episodes (the first time was just listening only. I did not bother to turn on the English translation. I just listened how you speak, how you deliver the statements.) I hope there is more.
Your podcasts are so calming and the styling of adding subtitles of both english and japanese HELPS soooo much!!! Thank youuuu sooo very much 🎉 Please continue to make more.
thanks a lot for your videos Tanaka-san. I really love your voice and it makes me easier to learn Japanese. I just want to see all your videos and repeat them until I completely understand the content without watching the script. Again, thank you for your series, and I'm so in love with your channel!!
This is soo great! What an inspirational channel! I lived in Japan for a year 2000-2001 and had basic communication skills by the end of it but that was years ago now and I’ve been refreshing and learning more on duolingo…but I’d know listening to natives is the best way to learn by osmosis! So I wondered what was out there and this came up first! Well done! So simple and helpful! Thank you for all your back-end efforts for our learning! 😅🤗🙌🙏
Thank you sister for you hard work I'm from Syria and i wanted to learn Japanese to increase my knowledge so i found your video and it was so interesting as the way you are talking and the tone of your voice it's so beautiful Keep up the good work 👍
This was so nice, I've been looking for something relaxing to listen to in japanese so I train my ear a bit and this was perfect! I'm still a beginner but someday I'll come back to this and hopefully will be able to understand much much more:) ありがとうございます、たなかさん!
I was in Prague and ate trdelniks a lot, but only in one place among all it was with chocolate. When I asked my czech friends about that, they were very surprised and answered that trdelnik is already very sweet and there is no need to add chocolate. For my trip in Prague there was another embarrassing story. I and my friend saw as one girl didn't pay for her subway ticket, and we thought to do the same. But we weren't so impudent to pay nothing, so we bought tickets for smaller price... We were caught and what a surprise! That were tickets for dogs 🙈 luckily everything ended without fines
I found you just today and I subbed already! I need to pick up my japanese before I forget everything haha! Thank you for this video, it really helped because speaking is more difficult than writing to me.
I hate when people realise something wrong and they ignore it , I'm the kind of people who would head a random stranger in the street to inform him that he has something on his hair, sometimes it gets weird, but people often appreciate the help of the others.

プラハから、おはよう🖐️。Trdelník は美味しいですけど、食べるの方は難しいです。ちなみに、プラハ人はTrdelník店が嫌いかもしれないです。TrdelníkよりKoláček ほうがおすすます。 Thank you for the listening practice 😊. What I wanted to say in that broken Japanese above is that, Trdelník is tasty, but it is not traditional czech food, despite the advertisement. Many Czechs think it is a tourist trap. 🤔 Personally, I would recommend Koláček or Tvarohová buchta. literally me when im talking with my Japanese friend, i sound fluent but my vocab isn't really that deep. 😆
So desu ne
Awh! Your pronunciation must be great, good job!:)
This made me laugh hahahahaha

Aaawww I believe it wasn’t cute at the moment, but it’s a really wholesome story now xd
It must have been so stressful! but also this story is so cute I'm crying!
that would've been scarier here in the states haaha, at least you feel somewhat safe there
cops in australia could never. they would’ve just ignore u. 😢 u met some very some nice police men
Такая милая история😊
I've been thinking about searching videos of people just speaking normal Japanese so I can get used to how it sounds and start understanding more from what I hear, I'm glad youtube recommended me this! Very nice and also very calming =]
Did this help?
田中さんはかわいいです🤣
I like the part that "You wonder why there was less choco than your imagination"
I studied English for about 10 years and I wanted to start studying japanese since I was 8 because of a childhood friend, but it's pretty difficult finding someone that teaches japanese for beginners, so I'm happy I found you. I can practice my english wile I learn a new lenguage :D

I love your voice! Usually whenever I hear a female voice in Japanese their pitch is up in the clouds, so hearing you speak with a lower register is so comfortable.
💯 I also appreciate the low-energy vibes. Fake enthusiasm is such a brain killer. Tanaka-san's style is very agreeable to me.

On my first visit to Japan, I would sometimes stop at a bakery to buy pastry on the way home. Once I was in the shop, one of the employees asked me if I was ready to order and I just mumbled 少々お待ちください.
The funny thing is that I knew that this was not the way I should have replied, as it is a polite form that the employees would use towards a client, and not the other way around, so I don’t know why I said that. But I can still see the faces of the two young female employees covering their mouth with their hand, trying hard to suppress a giggle.

I hope that one day, I will be able to listen in without reading the captions, that is my goal
プラハから、おはよう🖐️。Trdelník は美味しいですけど、食べるの方は難しいです。ちなみに、プラハ人はTrdelník店が嫌いかもしれないです。TrdelníkよりKoláček ほうがおすすます。

3:08 This also happened to me, i was in a travel to a city in my country and I tried a snack that is popular there, it was like a crepe filled with chocolate, and I ate it but then I looked at my shirt and I saw it was covered in chocolate lol
Now, i have a really embarrasing memory, it is that one day, I went to a church to an event, and when it was time to go out, I saw a a stall that sold traditional snacks, so, i went and had one, thinking they were for free I just took one and went away until my parents asked me if I payed for them, i was very embarrassed and they scolded me to go pay the seller. It still haunts me to this day.
This is so fantastic :)
Thank you for adding Indonesia sub
