Toyota and Ford will definitely lose sales to BYD.... I've been a Ford fan for the past 13 years. Owned over 6xT6 rangers. And I can't wait to trade in my ranger wildtrak for a Shark.
Kia Tasman...it does look funky.. Initially i thought WTF? BYD Shark..is gonna sell well.. I know 3 of my mates that placed amd order..one traded in his 2023 Ford Ranger Base model i think..
Toyota and ford have nothing to worry about? 😂 Those of us who can remember will recall Valiant, Dodge, Leyland, Chrysler and Bedford saying the same thing about Datsun and Toyota in the 60s/70s..... The speed in which china is innovating is terrifying for the major legacy brands and they are 100% worried about brands like BYD 😂, the only hope they have is tarrifs and sanctions to protect their home markets but they have both lost the east asia market places, which was a gigantic chunk of their revenue, and that has been absorbed by brands like BYD.
Ford and Toyota should be very worried. Spoke to one Brisbane dealer. They sold 30 sharks yesterday alone! The ranger PHEV is around $40k dearer and only offers 40km range. I'm a ranger fan but why would I get one?
The Shark and Ranger PHEVs should not be directly compared. One is an ICE ute with EV bits bolted on and the other is pretty much the opposite. The Ranger elec only power is 75kw and has a 12.8kw battery. That should be leisurely, and good luck achieving the stated 45 klm range. The Shark is 185kw elec only and 80k range. You would probably not buy the Shark if towing is a priority, but then you probably wouldn't go for Ranger PHEV either. The diesel will quite likely match/beat it on fuel consumption too... Oh and then there's the price. Stand by.
Kia Tasman ... what happened? who designed the front and based on what list of requirements and design queues? those lights are prone to being damaged very quickly ... they should be placed where the edges of the front grille is
The Tasman looks as if it is a blind car - no 'eyes'. Had two corollas over 15 years - one burst a radiator pipe on a hot day and that was the total problems I had with the two of them. Cheap to service, utterly reliable. Love them. Also, until the end of the video I wondered who the 'sook' was in the office!! Congrats on the 500K!
Legacy car makers have been taking the consumers for a ride for decades (pun intended) as they have all been doing the same things giving us the minimum and asking premium prices for products, knowing they had a captive market. I mean you can’t just start a new car company every day, as it needs a huge amount of funds and development, it is a very technical and restrictive industry. China has changed the game in this segment, as they pivoted towards EVs and PHEVs and now have the latest tech, they have automated the process of making cars and can bring a lot more value to the customer at a much cheaper price. As they say let the market decide and market is deciding legacy car makers are feeling the pinch everyday.
Hilux and Ranger has a lot of “pencil sharpening” to do with the emergence of the BYD to be competitive.Seeing that they are already in or above that price range with current models on offer. I think they have a lot to worry about as the pond they are fishing in is getting smaller. From a Hilux driver I might add 😂.

He implies he can charge at home and is dismayed it will increase energy bill, yes but at just @ 8cents per kilowatt hour off peak rate ($4.50 for 350kms at freeway speeds) it is rather a lot cheaper than ICE!
