this is the perfect companion video to your "change the oil in the TUFF TORQ Transmission" how-to video. Tuff Torq sounds like a great company, with the do-it-yourselfer in mind.
I tell you what. I LOVE that they give the general public this information. This alone makes me want to go buy something with one of their transmissions.
First mower with a hydro and happened upon a blog with a Tuff Torq tech weighing in. That helped a bunch as then I learned about preventive maintenance for my hydro that my Mower manual skipped over. Very helpful customer service e-mailing them also. Good info on how to read the bar code for your particular info.
I remember the first video of Taryl and crew walking around a mower trade show and people like the TT guy looking at him with a 'who is this clown?' look. Now they're like, 'Taryl is a man of gravity, we'd do well to advertise our product on his YT Show'. : )
I dont know much about that transaxle, but I really like the spicer/dana trans that I rebuilt in my 90 Dynamark, I have used it to plow with a 4 foot plow and its a long driveway, long driveway for more than 10 years. Its about the cheapest dynamark made also, 12.5hp/39 cut and easy to work on! You could call me Dynamark Bill, I have a 4 wheel steer one also!
1:40 Ah ha! This is what I was missing for finding the parts online. Now I can see all the parts and diagram of my TZT13GR (on a John Deere Z960M commercial zero turn).
Good morning sir, I just watched your Tuff Torq part lookup video. They don't have any parts for my transmission, most everything I see on there is out of stock. I'm looking for parts for a 46DM 087256 Maybe you can answer my question because I can't find any parts on their website, but, is there a little basket that holds the magnet under the draining cap on top. Because when I took mine a part it did not have that basket and I'm afraid the magnet will fall off the drain cap, being that it's only being held on by magnetism. Thank you for any help your channel is very helpful. Keep up the good work! Mountain Mike
Cub Cadet. " Sorry your K46 transmission is un serviceable." I beg to differ. I have replaced the axle seals once and changed the oil twice. Also have a K46 on a JD mower too. Changed the fluid in that one too. JD used 30 wt oil. I put in the 5w-50w synthetic and it runs fine. As a matter of fact, when i mower hunt. I only buy the Tuff Torq tranny ones. I know I can fix it.
Hey Taryl, how about doing this with other engines for the newer engines after Tecumseh or Briggs. Maybe the China knockoffs or maybe even Harbor Freight Predator engines? Thanks.
Taryl that's hilarious you make fun of customers who buy the wrong parts. Because of your Free Six Wheeler video whenever my buddy's and I get together and discuss what might be the problem with a go machine or power equipment we always end up concluding that it just 'needs more left tire!"
I like that the guy came on your show to engage with your community. However they must be charging covid prices, pump motor rebuild kit $426, fortunately the gear kit is only $28. So I will replace the worn gear set, filter, and oil up with a slightly heavier oil than 50. The pump motor Im working on has 0.005" piston slop as measured by My Crow Meter. Would you video pump cylinder motor and thrust washer tolerances? I have no idear how to measure slop in the thrust wersher set.
I believe companies that make repairs easy are looking for long term customers. Those that don't are looking for short term profits for the higher ups in the business.
Went to your store Taryl to buy the tool kit but could not find it on the web site. Does anyone here have any contact info for a Tuff Torq dealer in Alberta, Canada? No luck searching yet.
Taryl...could you do a video on how to install the (2) oil drain holes to the bottom of the Tuff Torq transmission housing ON A UNIT that DOES NOT have the (2) cast bosses to drill & tap? That's my challenge to you. Anyone could do the ones with the case bosses BUT no the ones without.
The rep doesn't know what to do with Taryl. Pretty funny. Is he insane? I don't know. Good timing on covering these trnny's Taryl. My Craftsman mower started experiencing power loss at the end of the season (not low on fluid) and I'm gonna crack her open.
Well I opened the case and found the old filter to be bent and the gasket torn. Had to be replaced. Maybe they all end up like that when the case is opened.
When one considers the HUGE number of lawn equipment using the Fluff Torque Transmission, this information is invaluable if you want or need to work on one of these pieces of shit! To be honest, you WILL need to work on one of these. The question I have is, Do they make a SHOP MANUAL for repair?
@@JM-yx1lm I agree with you and understand that everything will need to be maintained and repaired however if you have had ANY experience with these transmissions you will also understand that these things are DESIGNED to fail especially the ones that make it almost impossible to change their oil and DO NOT have a oil filter. Who does that?!
Everything nowadays is made cheap as hell. At least with tuff torq they offer the means to repair them, unlike the Chinese crap that everyone puts on their machines. Too bad we can't go back to good old fashioned cast iron blocks lol
@@eboutilier6 Yep! That goes without saying doesn't it? I try NOT to buy ANYTHING China if I can and for good reason, the Chinese businesses are NOT our friends nor the corrupt politicians and corporations that kiss their ass!!!
The yellow label on my Scotts 2554 tran. totq# K66 SBR S/N 101675 JDHW P/N AM 126670 was not enough information to look up parts as I was told by a customer service rep. I need to drop the trans and look for another tag.
I would guess that the size of the holes in the old filter should, more or less, match the size of the holes in new filter you are installing. Not having enough oil circulating inside the transmission might do more damage than having dirty oil circulating at the correct volume. Although it probably wouldn't do as much damage as not having enough oil circulation inside an internal combustion engine, with bearings that need oil pressure to keep the bearing surfaces apart. Those fine screens inside the transmissions are to probably to catch larger metal particles that you could see, not ultra small dirt particles, like the large paper oil filters on an internal combustion engine are designed to trap.
Great video my John Deere ztrac filters are expensive from Deere almost 100 dollars just for 2 filters maybe tuff torq filters are less money l change the oil every 250hrs gets pricey thanks 🙂
That Toro I had came with the ezt tuff torq transmissions and they failed at under 30 hours and the dealer was hesitant on honoring the warranty all because I took a hitching post off my old Husqvarna and installed it on my Toro so my guess is they assumed I was hauling heavy stuff with it so that turned me off Toro
Would be a helpful video if Tuff Torq supported its products better. Searching for K91 parts, likely one of the more popular transaxles draws nothing but blanks. Funny since most of the products supported are throw-away junk from big box stores. Who would fork up those outrageous parts prices to repair those?
I talked to a Scott on the phone couple weeks ago and he said he was gonna come down and see you Let me know if it's a Scott I talk to on the phone🚘🚖🚖🚑
Taryl should of asked Scott , why if tuff torq being so damn cheap and use a damn sticker with the model number instead of just stamping it or engraving/etching it into the transmission/metal case like the days of old . stop being cheap but its not just tuff torq, its all companies nowadays. just my opinion
Parts are available . The IT group for the parts website are working on the glitch that is keeping that serial range from pulling up , check back later it will get fixed.
Then there's the K46. You've got a video on how to rebuild one. Let's both pretend I can make that happen. I'd rather replace it but I've only ever seen them over $600.
Tuff torq should suffer a huge class action lawsuit for providing such garbage to the market as the K46 axle. They are making a ton of money off of repair parts for something that shouldn't have needed such early repairs in the first place. Crooked AF to do so. They aren't the good guys.
And there is how all brands' websites should be! Thanks Taryl team and Scott from tuff torq for sharing.
@7:40 I like it when technical service manuals show pictures of the parts and procedures.
It helps put things into perspective.
That is awesome that they support people working on the transmissions. Most companies are just interested in selling you a new one

Taryl tries to be goofy but he`s one talented mechanic, thanks for the videos
Finally, a decent and transparent company. Now only if the housings weren’t plastic and the filters were external.
I don't think they build any with plastic housings. general did for a while.
The time and effort you go to entertain and educate engine repair pros and hobbiest is much appreciated. Thanks

What if the STICKER is missing of the John Deere transmission is there a STAMP with the number on the transmission?
Scott looks like he could be Elk Skins brother.😅😅😅
Tuff skins…lol.🤣😂🤣😂
Good stuff. This will help a lot of folks.
This is amazing info Taryl! Thank you to you and Scott! Love my K71B on my John Deere GT225. Tough as nails!!
I dont know much about that transaxle, but I really like the spicer/dana trans that I rebuilt in my 90 Dynamark, I have used it to plow with a 4 foot plow and its a long driveway, long driveway for more than 10 years. Hi Dynamark Bill!
Question, what happens when the sticker isn’t on the trans missionsheoon ?

Taryl is doing corporate commercials now !!! 😒 . Definitely jumped the shark !!!
Hardly. Parts Diagrams for TQ is a PITA.
Now? He's been doing them for years. Doesn't bother me so long as he's up-front about it.
4:12 The look on tyrels face... " oh shit ive been putting the wrong filters in these transmissions for years..🤔" 😲😂
Great Information for the DYI guys!

what if the parts sticker is missing I have 2003 jd g100 with I think is a k65 but not sure and my parts sticker is missing
thanks for the great information.

TT has their act together.
I will look up in 4 days.
Curious why the filter is recommended being changed if the case is opened, but otherwise no. Does opening the case cause the filter to get dirty?
Well I opened the case and found the old filter to be bent and the gasket torn. Had to be replaced. Maybe they all end up like that when the case is opened.

Mine works fine at 450 hrs with my third oil change. If you buy a cheap lawn mower you get the cheapest hydro version along with everything else.
Very informative
Not only do they have the parts, it seems that a real technician answers the phone and is willing to help.
Good info, thanks.
What if you buy a well used mower and the sticker is gone? Is there another way to find out what you have?

Tuff Torq man, what do you do when the sticker is gone?
Great Video Taryl😀😀😀
And if there is NO tag on it or there is no thing left on the tag??? what then???
@4:44 Didn't Taryl already cover this in better detail in a previous video?
Great video my John Deere ztrac filters are expensive from Deere almost 100 dollars just for 2 filters maybe tuff torq filters are less money l change the oil every 250hrs gets pricey thanks 🙂
What years were tuff torq transmission used
they have been in many brands since the 90s
can you get help in canada or are they Diffrent in canada
And Why A Claw Hammer ? We gonna be doing some Carpentry Work? Laughed my A$$ OFF!

I don't think Tuff Torq ever had transmissions in a zturn Toro? Hydro Gear had EZT in the Toro zturns.
At first site, I thought Scott was the human shop rag all cleaned up
My serial number is 460 or 46O and neither seem to be recognised by their parts finder.

👍
So you didn’t need to cut the plastic of as you did on last transmission video.
IDK I went to their website and got squat. Nothing comes up not even diagrams. Perhaps the general public is SOL.
I talked to a Scott on the phone couple weeks ago and he said he was gonna come down and see you Let me know if it's a Scott I talk to on the phone🚘🚖🚖🚑

TUFF TORQ simply the best other brands are just nikki 6

Need. Parts. For. A. 145. John. Deere

What if your not a us customer, where do you call then? I feel a need to speak poor english to someone ;)
Can you use a lawn mower like a weed eater taking off the blade and putting string instead
How would you change the string or clear it if it got fouled?
I would never own a mower with a hydrostatic trans
If they were Tuff you would never need parts real P.O.S’s more like Turd Torq’s
I. Found. My. Number. Ok
I'm weird...I hope my shtuff breaks just so I can fix it.
Tuff torq should suffer a huge class action lawsuit for providing such garbage to the market as the K46 axle.

Tuff torque is trashhhhhhhhhhhhh hydro gear or Parker 👌🏼
I assume those fascists paid you to do an infomercial for them Taryl?
This is pure commerce, even the t shirts. Come on! There no entertainment, even less information here!
👍
