I remember the chimp show, Lancelot Link from the 70's. I hadn't thought of that show for 30 or 40 years before you mentioned it. Great video. Your videos have saved me a bunch of money over the last several years. Thanks and keep them coming! I had the left axle snap on my Husqvarna several years ago. Must be a common failure of the Tuff Torq transmission.
I appreciate your vídeos Taryl, I don’t even own a shop and just have my first riding mower almost a year ago. I’ve always loved to learn stuff. You have the knowledge and expertise and transmit that through your channel. Thanks for enlightening hundreds of people.
I love how Taryl shows you how the repair the right way and also shows the Rambo survival way... Reuse of everything being seals and filter. Also for the ones who don't have special tools. Good man Taryl
Never a dull moment at the shop! Lol. Oh tech tip. To install that oil plug, hold a long flat piece of steel like the flat end of a roofing bar, over the plug and then tap on it with the old axle. That will help seat the edge of the plug that's underneath the fan, that you can't tap on. It distributes the force over the whole plug. Cool hey. Great video. I always wanted to be in a rock and roll band! Lol. Later. Jpol.
Something I ran into on my transmission was the races didn't come out. I couldn't figure out why the seals wouldn't go into the hole. You may want to show how to remove the races incase someone else has trouble. Thanks. You did an amazing job especially the details
Thank you so much for your hard work and wonderful videos. I truly have learned a lot over the last few years watching your videos. Thank you and your crew.
@19:00 "Where did that (part) go Taryl?" --> "We'll figure that out later . . . " lol I love Taryl! He's a boss that CAN figure it out, me, I'm a weekend warrior scratching my head like how the frick does this go back together!!
Metal fatigue effects both axles. That's probably why Tuff Torq sells a kit with both. I wouldn't want to do this job twice and would replace both at the same time.
The new axles are made stronger thats why it comes in a kit. Husqamyrna are the ones who spec the trans against Tuff Torq recommendations. Cost is the factor.
Great show today Taryl.👏🏻 You can still watch Lance link secret chimp on youtube..lol. Back in the day we watched all those Sat morn shows, Lance link, banana split, Tom terrific, penelope pit stop, Johnny quest…and so on. Many more that I can’t remember..lol. Grass rats life member here.🐀🐀
Taryl my scrapper looks exactly like yours worn and sharpened at the same angle too. I have another thats worn to the main shaft its been used so much over the last fifty years. I think id have put the seals on from the spline end before installing shafts. I usually oil or light grease the shaft n seal to help protect them. Good job
I'm confused. That pump angle plate is in upside down on this transmission. Mine and all others are the other way around. Did you forget to flip it back right way round?
I am glad to see this video because I have a John Deere l110 automatic riding mower and the left rear axle is bent right behind the wheel and I was told I could probably put it in a shop press and straighten it out since it's not bent at the rear end housing but I really don't want to take a chance on not getting it even close enough straight and it's still destroy the seal so this gives me an idea on what I need to expect when I change it
Just a odd question are the splines too big on the inside of the shaft to slide the seal on without damage and then push it in the housing without needing to tape the key way
Having dismantled over 50 riding mowers there is a vast variation in size and durability of transaxles. A rear axle from a vari-drive MTD tractor looks like a toothpick compared to the transaxle in a Toro 5xi garden tractor. I have a spare 5xi rear axle and hydrostatic pump motor and I’m going to record a video of it next to a Tuff Torq K61 after I remove it from a Toro 266-H.
Lancelot Link Secret Chimp, lol! I remember lots of movies and shows from the 70’s with chimpanzees like Any Which Way But Loose and B.J. and the Bear.
Hello Taryl, great video! I have a concern after seeing this as I have a John Deere LA125 with a tufftourqe that's about 10 years old and has about 60 hours on it. It gets fairly light use as my lawn is fairly small. My concern is that I weigh about 400 lbs and am worried that my axle may break and cause a rollover. I am careful and don't run the mower very fast. thank you in advance for your advice.
42:18 those added tabs are to hold a magnet for the newer models for transmissions. I guess they're thinking was, the more magnets we load these things down with, the less problems people will have.
On that wedge block inside the transmission that controls forward and reverse on my Cub Cadet the smaller width end faces up but my mower works properly, Do different manufacturers place them differently inside the tranny?

They then got talent spotted right there.. They had some really good hard music too as The Heart Attacks, and fully lived the hard rock'n roll life... hence the look that fits.

Would be better without Toothpick.
Maybe because “Toothpick” is annoying.
Because 15 executives at Tuff Torx Transmission don’t like the bad press.

I would like to see Jr. Take Toothpick to the parking lot.
Amen but not his style

One hour has never been so quick 😸
Lovely channel, you guys must have lot's of fun when doing this 😺😺
Thanks for the learning experience on transmissions.

I'm surprised we didn't get the grass rats version of that classic song
" you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel" ?
Nice repair video Taryl! Enjoy your step-by-step process on the repair. Thanks for the great instruction!
Thank you so much for your hard work and wonderful videos. I truly have learned a lot over the last few years watching your videos. Thank you and your crew.
You have the most patience of any person online, I'm quite sure!
I'll be darned, there is my Mott flail mower he's pushing around!!!
Great skit! And there's your dinner!!!

Happy Fathers Day! Thanks again for another excellent video, Taryl.

Thanks for the video. Happy father's day
Excellent in depth video!! Thanks
The song at the end was Killer!
Awesome video as usual Taryl..keep the coming!!
Your new guy (toothpick) reminds me of David Johansen. You know the cab driver from the movie scrooged
Good singer too
Great vlog nice work all around. I loved the Skit…
Holy cow - same exact break on the same wheel on the same Husqvarna tractor.
Oh yeah baby! This was an awesome video. Keep it up!
I like the skits better then learning stuff lol
If you'd paid a little more attention to the learning parts, you would know to use than and not then. Just sayin'.
Great way to start my birthday
Well happy birthday FarmallForever!!! :)
Happy bday and if you identify as a dude w kids... happy faddas day! .
I'm rebuilding a jd l100 from ground up w an engine repower.
Very Gold explanation! Thank you very much for that! Best greetings vom germany
Lova ya Taryl, happy fathers day!

I agree, if one axle broke... 👍

@@TarylFixesAll thank you. I didn't know the replacement axles are better quality. It's true, You get what you pay for.
love the out takes!!!!
Good Job. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Lancy ha ha I remember! You need to take the band out on the road 🤟

Great video, Taryl. I feel so proud, I have the same impact wrench and flashlight as you have. That must mean I are a good mekanic.
I love the skits
Nice job I just ordered the transmission stand and a seal drivers great job thanks for the information
Thanks Taryl Very helpful. as always
Nice Black Flag drum intro...Gimme, Gimme, Gimme
....
RMBLR TERRITORY
Great video! Now I have to check out some stuff in the Taryl apparel store. I only wear pocket tee's.
I picked up one of those Tube Grips and love it. I use it for caulk and any tube that will fit in it.
wow, that one is over the top ... guest appearance by toothpic and everything

Lancelot Link had a really cool
mini bike!
Yup. Exactly what happened to mine. Same side too. Cost about $500 total for me. Easy fix for the most part.
oh great, now how am i going to get to sleep tonight knowing this tractor has an oil leak in the trans! thanks Taryl
Oh junior, I feel with you. As we say: "whos'got the damage doesn't have to take care of the ridicule."
Yes. I remember lancelot link. Loved that show as a kid
Jr I got 2 words for you...Auto fooler.. revenge is dish best served cold.
I do hope you'll do a transmission repair on a zero turn mower some day. A residential mower, not a commercial mower. You simply can't learn enough.
Whoa! These guys rule.
Just a odd question are the splines too big on the inside of the shaft to slide the seal on without damage and then push it in the housing without needing to tape the key way
Neva Sleez and that's your dinner. Beautiful
I bet these days and times they wouldn't allow a show like Lancelot Link. It would offend someone.
and Marta Hairy?

I think Taryl and Mustie should do a Collaboration
The trick to driving seals is keep raw fish handy and grab them from behind there ears!
I would like to know how do you brake a 3/4" or 1" thick Axle?
That was fabulous😅
I bought the same tractor for a $100.00 with the same broken axle. Welded it back together, Ben using ever since.
Out of all the videos I have watched from you guys. I believe Taryl you might have had to many Hams in this video.
I feel like toothpick is exactly like that in real life 😂
" ... i don't know if i am going to be able to sleep tonight with that oil leak, taryl ..." LMFAO !
but will it do a wheelie?
Hey
Lancelot Link Secret Chimp, lol! I remember lots of movies and shows from the 70’s with chimpanzees like Any Which Way But Loose and B.J. and the Bear.
Toothpick is a BAMF! You guys rock!
I apply the silicone sealant, tighten the bolts finger tight then wait for about 1/2 an hour then fully torque the bolts !
The Tuff Torq K46 has a 3/4 thick Axle so how did that break?

Taryl needs a lawnmower guitar 🎸,junior, is going to really get toothpick really good one day!
I think Seal would be very appreciative that you even remembered that much about him. We all remember his [ex] *wife*
Great video thank you
REEFER MADNESS runnin wild! That toothpick feller is on the Devil’s lettuce 🥬.

Snap Axelhoff at your service. Great Music BTW!
You can buy the axle seal kit from MTD also. Comes with the seals, cap, and axle bolts.
Can u use a transmission from a Scott to put on a John Deere if they are both 48” ?
On that wedge block inside the transmission that controls forward and reverse on my Cub Cadet the smaller width end faces up but my mower works properly, Do different manufacturers place them differently inside the tranny?
good one tarryl!
Happy father's day Taryl
Popp! (8:12👍👌👍) exaktly why we like you guys so much 👏😂👏
Toothpick took the acting up a few notchs!
