They should have put in live action cutscene moments from the film in the N64 game. That would have been awesome. Unfortunately, they only done it for the PS1 version of The World Is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies.
Steve Dem memories. I remember the Golden Gun, when you played with a friend. Damn that gun was deadly, if I remember correctly one hit would kill the other player, and what about the bazooka? It had a characteristic "scream" when you fired the warhead.
This movie came out I believe in 1995. That's 4 years after the fall of the Soviet Union. So... yeah if it feels that way it's because that is exactly what they were going for.
The film just had it’s own... I don’t know how to describe it... vibe? It’s that electronic gong sound, the long echo, the drums, that ambient background effect that sounds like a windy winter night... also, there seems to be a filter over the entire film that’s what... color coding of some sort, chroma? Lol as a guy who made a film and still dabbles in video production, I feel like I should know this... but you probably get my drift, there’s just something cool about this damn film. I love it.
I totally agree with you and disagree with antigen.. Brosnan was totally believeable as a tough guy and a proper English gentleman.....antigens comment about personality is a moot point it all was in the script and director.
By far the best opening scene to any Bond film. And one of the best Bond's at that, a true classic. Its a shame to compare this and Brosnan's later bond films, this is in another league.
Josh Charlie Shame how Brosnan started with such a good Bond film and ended on such a bad one but it wasn't his fault. Good actors can't prevent bad writing, he was still great as 007.
Josh Charlie I liked all of Brosnan's movies, but GoldenEye just had that thing about it. The first movie to not be written by the actual creator of 007, and it was actually really good. The combination of that bungee jump (which i hear was a record breaking jump), and that new gunbarrel intro after 6 years of no 007 movies, it is just amazing. The atmosphere and music really made this one the best 007 movie for me. Die Another Day was one of the worst 007 movies, but I still like it. Too bad he was getting too old for the role. I would have liked it more if he did Casino Royale. It kinda sucks how his first movie was his best, because when you have the best one first, it's hard to not have higher expectations for everything prior to it. Even though the writing was somehow not as good for the other James Bond movies, Brosnan made them all worth watching because he was actually really good for the role.
Goldeneye was based on a screenplay originally written and adapted for Timothy Dalton's third Bond film, but it got delayed so much that he bowed out. You can clearly tell how much more carefully thought-out and hard edged the film is compared to Brosnan's others which became more and more like lame late Roger Moore style farce movies.
It's okay, we are not all made for stuff like that. As skydiver I always encourage people to try stuff like that but I'm always saying if you don't find it amusing after you tried it, don't continue. There is enough things that are torturing us, we don't have to it to ourselves 😂
Goldeneye is overall the best of all of the Bond movies. Between the fantastic stunts, story and the famous Bond disposition, it is the best. I saw this movie in a theater, back in the day. I remember feeling like I was going over the edge of the dam with the stunt buddy. As well the tank chase scene kicks.
Notice the lack of music and how it adds to the tension. If this was done today it would have some "epic" music added which would ruin the whole scene. Makes you think back then people actually knew what they were doing with a scene and it didn't look like a movie trailer.
@@garrymullins Correct, it was all stuntman Wayne Micheals. In fairness the only time it’s blatantly obvious is in the close-up shot of the jump, you can just about see now that it’s him thanks to the Blu-Ray. Surprisingly in the overhead angle just before he jumps, you can’t really tell, it’s a very well shot scene, and as the original commenter pointed out, does a great job at hiding Bond, even if it was also to hide a stuntman.
It irritates me terribly that they didn't have Brosnan run across the dam and stand on the edge before cutting away to the stuntman. You can easily tell that it's not his run or body type, and every time I watch the scene, it ruins it for me. Careless movie making.
I was like 7 or 8 when the Goldeneye game came out on the N64. This was well before internet was widely available and we were lucky to have the game at all, let alone being able to afford the guides or even if we did having the patience to read them. For whatever reason we couldn't figure out how to beat the 2nd level Facility even on Agent mode (aka Easy). So we watched this movie and thought that it would help us crack the code and figure out how to beat the level and UNBELIEVABLY it did. We discovered we had to destroy the gas canisters and from there it was just a matter of figuring out how to do that.
This Movie is one of my favourites of all time and when this game came out I started playing video games at the age of 5 when I was still in Kindergarten ... Good Times

Apparently when the stunt man was just about to jump (the shot we see over the top of Bond's head down onto the rocks below) he caught, out of the corner of his eye, one of the crew do the sign of the cross. A little unnerving :-).
Yeh, someone already replied saying the same thing. Fair enough, your point makes sense. However, they'd already shown his face in an earlier scene which was then edited out and by that point everyone knew the new Bond was Brosnan anyway since he'd been the favourite for the role for decades.
In the opening scene of the James Bond movie Goldeneye, agent 007 bungee jumps from the top of a dam. At the bottom of the jump, he uses a pistol to fire an anchor into the ground, in order to lower himself down so that can execute his secret mission. Estimate Bond's grip strength- that is, the force he needs to hold on to the pistol. Is the amount of force required reasonable?
They don't really do these really stand out scenes anymore in new bond films. It's just your standard quick cut Hollywood action scene. Nothing that blows your mind.
In Goldeneye, the villains have been inconsiderate enough to build a space weapon cache inside a dam, bond decides to take the direct approach to gain access and jumps of the dam.
Wow wayne michaels was about 43, as far as I can tell, when he did this jump. I don't which I like best this or the skiing off the mountain in the spy who loved me opening.....both are fantastic....this man had nerves of steel...wonder how much he was paid for this. Goldeneye was one of the best I really liked Pierce Brosnan as Bond.
Watch very carefully behind the dam (at moment the plane goes over) you can clearly see swiss houses on the mountains slopes (where the dam is located in reality)
Grappling hook pierced and stuck into solid rock, and then had enough tension to counter the force of less than 720 feet of bungee rope springing back up from the drop?
Anyone know where to find a full version of both the classic Bond intro and the background music when he runs across the dam? Would greatly appreciate it!
the best stunt in any james bond movie is in this movie when he rides the motorbike of the cliff and falls into the plane and then while its nose diving into mountains he manages to get the plane up and away out of russia lol james bond is the man
pause it @ 1:30 and you can see the large equipment used for the stunt that they drove into place on top of the dam. there's a crane to secure his rigging high up and away from the dam wall and a moving truck likely full of their harnesses and gear.
I followed a man in the grocery for a while, as he looked like Brosnan, and I told him!!! He said, Ma'm you have made my day, my week, my year and my life. I swear he was gorgeous!!!I am 80....you never get too old to see gorgeous!!!
