I had an opportunity to play Goldeneye on the N64 when I was in 11th grade because one of the teachers had a N64 in his classroom. I did not like the game too much. The main problem was that you couldn't turn around when aiming your gun. If an enemy was behind you, you had to move the camera around and then aim your gun. However, the camera moved SO slow! Therefore, if an enemy was behind you or to the side of you, you would lose almost all of your health, if you didn't die. I played on medium difficulty, and I couldn't even pass the first level because of this, and neither could the other people in the class. And no, it's not because I suck at FPS games. I've played MANY FPS games, including the James Bond games on PS2, and I had no problem with those. If the game allowed you to turn around when aiming or at least had faster camera movement, it would have been a fun game to me.
No, you did suck. It took 5 minutes for me to get used to the controls (though nowhere near as good as Graslu). Don't blame the controls for your own incompetence.
@Lets Play Minecraft Xbox has modern controls and is smooth , I have switch with NSO too , didn't bother to remap the controls or play ever again after playing once on switch , I was like wtf is this. Metroid remastered is fantastic tho.
Nintendo needs to fix the controls. I was fortunate enough to beat the game, but damn those controls are just all over the place. I don't remember the controls being that impossible on the N64 back in the 90s.

I'm here because of my childhood. I remember running the 00agent difficulty on a regular basis😅 maybe I should upload a speed run to go alongside my turok 2 runs.
I remember seeing footage of this level on TV when I was about 9 years old, someone testing it for a TV show. I had never seen anything like that and immediately wanted to try it. I got the N64 for my 10th anniversary and this game didn't disappoint me one bit. I played so much of it, kicking my friends ass on multiplayer levels. I have been a gamer ever since, excelling at FPS. I have since played just about every franchises, Half Life, Battelfield, Insurgency, Counterstrike, Far cry, Medal of Honor, Call of duty, etc, Doom, etc. This game really allowed FPS to go mainstream. Even about 25 years later it still holds on in terms of gameplay and graphics.
You know what, I wish games didn't have every objective glowing for you. Planting the bug is a perfect example. It felt pretty cool doing it as a kid back in the day. You had to read directions and look for things. Now everything is handed and marked for you....

@@ethanarchibald9106 On N64, Switch or Xbox? On N64 make sure to use an original N64 controller in good condition, anything else is terrible for GE. On Xbox, lower the deadzone and sensitivity a bit. On Switch, you need to use the NSO N64 controller, anything else will be over sensitive.
@@Graslu00 Ive been playing on Switch and have been using the pro controller. Does it just take practice? If so could you reccomend any levels to train on? I've unlocked invincibility if that counts for anything.
@@ethanarchibald9106 I'd say it takes practice on the original hardware, but on Switch the sensitivity is just busted... There's little you can do. I guess you can get used to it eventually but don't expect to be as accurate as on the original game.
I just picked this up for my N64, so great to play this game again. I had a weird glitch happen to me on this level I've never had happen before right at 0:58 at that 2 door way spot, if your going through the level slower then he is, A truck will pull up to that door, when I went up and pressed the button for the first door it opened and the truck moved forward to the second door. When I pressed the button on the second door ( I must have double hit it fast somehow) the second door opened just wide enough for Bond to fit through and stopped, and the Truck decided "YOLO I'm driving though this door!" I actually thought it was going to drive though but then ended up stuck halfway in the door. When I pressed the button again it said please wait door is closing. It would not close or open just give me the message please wait for door. It was pretty funny to see this big ass truck stuck halfway through a door Epic game would get Truck stuck again!

I have this game and bought it used at a flea market with the game fully beaten with all cheats unlocked and 007 mode unlocked too. I find the game fun to play with the cheats on but more rewarding to do it myself

I played this game when it came out and was pretty good at it,when the computer age really took off i started playing games on PC, here a few weeks ago i had a bout of nostalgia and pulled out the ole 64 and started playing again,i am having hell with the controllers,lol ,i guess ill get used to them again, i cant even pass the DAM level to save my life,when i started playing games on PC i use to say "there is no way ill ever learn to play on a keyboard" so i guess its just a matter of getting used to the 64 again.
+dntlss You should try the 1.2 control scheme, works like a modern controller more than the original (Stick for looking around, C buttons to move around), after you get used to it it's much better. Or you could play with mouse and keyboard on PC. :P

No, 1.2 is Solitaire, Honey is 1.1 where you move forward and backwards with the stick and left and right with the C buttons, in 1.2 Solitaire you aim with the stick and move around with C buttons only. After all it's mostly personal preference, 1.2 takes a bit more to get the hang of it but it's worth it (Your thumb will also thank you).
A modern take on Goldeneye 007 controls- You CAN play the original game the way modern FPS controls work. Here is how: First choose in game controls menu "1.2 solitaire" and use an original N64 controller (sorry Brawler64 I still love you). Now put your left hand on the D-pad for walking and strafing, and your Right hand to use the stick for looking and aiming only. Change the inverted or non-inverted as desired "Reverse" or "Upright" in game. The right index finger is now to shoot. Your left index finger is now to aim with the L button. This functions similar to and mimics the hand assignments of most modern FPS and newer controllers. This fixes the original tank-like control option that a lot of kids used back in the day. BTW, you can also use these similar controls for Duke Nukem64, Turok, Doom64, Quake 2 already has this control setting by default!

Yeah, Glide64 causes that, I think it's impossible to fix. I don't know if playing at N64 resolution and reading every frame would fix it, but not worth it lol.
Random nitpick: I wonder if Rareware had to improvise to complete each area to cover for the chunks of them not seen in the movie? (like the entirety of the Severnaya bunker, or the Depot, the caves in the Jungle, or even the whole area before the Dam itself, and inside the Dam. The Silo in Kirghizstan wasn't even in the movie at all; neither was the name "Spetznaz")
What graphic plugin are you using for this playthough to get the hd text and still have the N64 effects like the characters and objects still being effected by the fog and so on?
I use "Glide64 Final Date: May 8 2012", GoldenEye looks great with it and I think everything is like how it was on the N64 if you configure it well, Perfect Dark have some bugs but only on the menus and camera. It's a pack that you download here (Includes the HD text): goldeneye.neocities.org/ (I downloaded 1964 emulator). Just disable "Read every frame (Slow!)" in Perfect Dark because... it's slow... (If you have it enabled everything works fine, even menus and camera but I prefer frame rate than that). In GoldenEye you will have to disable "LOD calculation" in every level except Severnaya and Depot, if you keep it disabled on those you will see weird textures on Severnaya trees and Depot ground. Hope it helps... The video looks good? It's the first one I record/render in 1080p :P

I really appreciate the inclusion of widescreen in 007. Banjo-Tooie is the only other game on N64 I can think of that allows that.

Huh, that's a pretty weird thing going on with the left and right edges of the screen. It's just filtering out all the map geometry and exposing the skybox.
Yeah, Glide64 causes that, I think it's impossible to fix. I don't know if playing at N64 resolution and reading every frame would fix it, but not worth it lol.
Random nitpick:
I wonder if Rareware had to improvise to complete each area to cover for the chunks of them not seen in the movie? (like the entirety of the Severnaya bunker, or the Depot, the caves in the Jungle, or even the whole area before the Dam itself, and inside the Dam. The Silo in Kirghizstan wasn't even in the movie at all; neither was the name "Spetznaz")
What graphic plugin are you using for this playthough to get the hd text and still have the N64 effects like the characters and objects still being effected by the fog and so on?
I use "Glide64 Final Date: May 8 2012", GoldenEye looks great with it and I think everything is like how it was on the N64 if you configure it well, Perfect Dark have some bugs but only on the menus and camera. It's a pack that you download here (Includes the HD text): goldeneye.neocities.org/ (I downloaded 1964 emulator). Just disable "Read every frame (Slow!)" in Perfect Dark because... it's slow... (If you have it enabled everything works fine, even menus and camera but I prefer frame rate than that). In GoldenEye you will have to disable "LOD calculation" in every level except Severnaya and Depot, if you keep it disabled on those you will see weird textures on Severnaya trees and Depot ground. Hope it helps... The video looks good? It's the first one I record/render in 1080p :P
Graslu00 Thanks, also yes the video looks great in HD. At some point I'm doing a let's play of this game with the mouse injector, so the texture pack will be a nice touch I believe, but it'll have commentary while yours is just gameplay, plus you're like speed running through this aren't you? lol
StupidMarioBros1Fan I'm not speed running, that's how I always played GE and PD with and without controller :P plus it's Dam, a big map with no one "speaking", so no reason to go slow lol. I go a bit slower in other missions so everyone can read everything.
Guess that's a good point, I usually take my time on Dam to listen to the music. lol
