I think it's wonderful to see that there are still quite a few people who have revived their love for old boats. If these boats could talk, they would thank you for allowing them to perform on lakes and at sea again.
ohhhh myyyyyyy she is a beauty. Some lucky young man needs to take her enjoy her for many many years.. If you have never sailed a wood boat and experienced the comfort , this one is a dream come true, I see so many people with fin keels , they will never feel the confort this boat has.
Just came into my feed, this is the type of project and price range I need. Best part of the old sails is they are templates for new sails, mark your dimensions and upgrades and order. Newer rigging(fresh water if salt it would be time to inspect well or just change). Have never seen this self steering setup,if you could do a more in depth examination I would absolutely watch. Thank You , stay salty Semper Fi
I also have a willard 1976 8 ton world cruiser. Mine is in Florida. Lots of work to do but it is a strong tough boat. Only complaint os the engine location, however this location is what allows the cabin to be so large. Great video. Thanks!
@@Robert-u3w so like you get a license, by Coast guard and you get a merchant mariners license to operate classes of boats and to carry a certain amount of passengers.
There's a very similar boat at my local marina that I've been eyeing for the last few years, now l'lI have a better idea what I'm looking at when I see it.👍
That boat is a steal. So much potential and if you are doing things yourself it is affordable. But remember , there is nothing like cheap sailing. Look at costs of insurance, marina and mooring fees . Sail and rigging replacement . Things that you cannot do yourself costs money . . . . But for what i see i am just positive. Safe sailing.
Hi, thanks for highlighting this boat. When you say that this engine can be rebuilt, those words should be taken to heart. Most mechanics or boatyard owners will just say " Let's just drop a yanmar in there and call it a day". Whoa. No. First of all that's 10x the engine that any replacement would be, and not just because it's big for the boat. Adapting that engine room/ beds/ shaft to another engine would Not Be Cheap. Enough said about that. Next, any surveyor would tell you that the only way to know if keelbolts need replacing is to do it. You could xray them but why waste money. I cannot think of Any other boat that i would make such a blatently blanket statement about, but by all means replace these. To a boatbuilder, this is not daunting, its just another job. Please trust me on this one. Anyway, since standard winch handles are All 10" long (or 8"), that makes the sink about 9" deep. Thank you.
Marty! Great to hear from you. 😁But don’t be a Salty Dawg🐙 Enjoy the spirit of the channel and spend your time hunting and pecking on those other fake boat restoration channels. 😎
If I could get this boat for $3500 I would sail her home to Nova Scotia, restore her and give her the blue water she deserves. I’d post every minute online too.
We have friends in CA who have a 72 foot motor yacht a Willard built as a civilian version of a military hull . Triple systems for redundancy on every thing , every thing heavy military grade. Spent a week on it cruise to Catalina island. Solid built is an understatement. So at 5 k it’s a steal . When redone there is no modern yacht safer for world travel . Let’s say you have to put 25,000 into it to bring it back to life with your own work and a little bit of professional help so for 30 grand you have a vessel that can go anywhere safely. Get the life raft serviced. And upgrade all the safety gear get AIS radio. And personal. EPIRB s and one for the boat with a hydrostatic release. Get rid of all the old electronics put in a good auto pilot. Use the old one as a back up. Redundancy redundancy that’s what saves you.
Dang, it would probably cost more than the cost of the boat to be shipped to Pennsylvania. Very close to what I am looking for though. Best of luck to whomever gets her. The potential is there for a great off shore cruiser.
If you have the brochure those photos were taken by Bruce Bingham. When I was in high school, he "hired" us to sail the first one on a winter day when it was absolutely howling, so he could get those photos. That's my bf Sally, Naval Architect Paul Kotzebue and myself in those pics. Life was so simple then. Later I apprenticed for a Swiss naval architect who raved endlessly about how cool the Fantasia's folding cockpit step/coaming was!
That's a great little sea boat, it's almost unheard of to get a Crealock design at that price, just the sails and liferaft cost way more than 5K, Bargain of a lifetime for someone with knowhow and a bit of time, put 20 K into that and you'll have a premium blue water boat for a song
In anything over 12knots apparent it reaches hull speed readily and Nothing stops her. Crealock knew that those Full sections and minimal "rocker" guaranteed speed and COMFORT, while minimizing any tendency to pitch excessively.

Always wanted to re-do a sailboat but that time has passed for me. After restoring so many classic glass boats I would have been all about this boat.

I dont understand why are there keel bolts? Does that mean the keel is not encapsulated. I thought all long keel sailboats have no keel bolts
