I agree 100% that attitude, a redflag at the show is more damaging for the reputation of the company, than anything else. As a professional she should have been prepared to respond with a diplomatic and respectful way. ☕ The coffee machine attraction is a nice to have, with an overall positive atmosphere, whatever the concerns someone's may have about information prior to an exhibition, etc

That is bizarre, highly unprofessional behavior from Damen/ Amels. They should get rid of Sarah Flavell for no other reason than it's embarrassing to associate with her actions.
What a complete PR failure, esysman doesn't really do negativity towards companies, they report on events, events can be negative, positive and neutral. By their reaction they've come across as weak and made themselves look like they're not confident in their products. As a late entrant into the game, although not at the yacht show, Corintha 7 is the best yacht I've seen in terms of interior styling and exterior beauty, might need to take a friend though, she's big.
A Marketing manager with poor communication skills. Sending here minions, hiding and doesn't want to speak with you, to clarify the 'issue' what she haves.
There's a fair amount of dodgy money in the new superyacht building game. Perhaps Damen / Amels feel they have more to hide than some of the other builders...
Maybe someone will NOT go to them for a yatch purely on this behaviour? We can but hope. Nothing says 'your fired' quicker than you being the reason for a lost sale.
Most likely they have a fairly tight group that manage the company. I mean they are hiring spouses for major roles. So yeah. A bit disappointed in Jared though.
I love watching your videos, they are very interesting and I love your honest perspective. My interest came sadly out of the Bayesian incident, but now find I love watching your videos as they are so informative. Many thanks Cx
This Amels thing, besides of the amazing ability of their Marketing Manager to create a problem where there wasn’t one (her emails exude arrogance and lack of competence to answer a simple question), is the typical communication flaw by companies that sell products that are not for the main public, hence their zero understanding on how to approach and deal with mundane issues. I fully support the other comments who suggest that Sarah should look for another job or be repositioned to serving drinks to the attendees, at least for a brief period 😉
She couldn't answer that simple question, because an honest answer would be "Yes, we did do a lot of shady business and are trying to hide it." - a dishonest one would be easy to refute. So, pointing to irrelevant facts it is. Please don't let her serve coffee, I'd be afraid for esysman's safety! ☹

The kluxes at Damen/Amels appear clueless when it comes to media management. If you have a gripe with someone, invite them in for a friendly chat about your gripe ( in their case over a coffee). Declaring war on a media brand never works and you risk seriously damaging your own brand, as was the case here. Damen/Amels need to employ some grown-ups. I worked in media for decades and this was a perfect example for anyone doing media training, on how NOT to do it.
Thats happened to me a few times 🤣 I'm in the E/R or walking through the boat and some random person says hello and it turns out to be the owner 😀 My favorite one was the gentleman stood there in the E/R and he says to the chief snd captain "Strange when i take my Ferrari in a clean technician comes out puts a soft blanket over the paintwork...the entire workshop spotless and yet when i bring my yacht in to be refitted...it always looks like a gypsies front garden" 😀
You have incredible integrity and although I do not own one, have always appreciated how much work and research goes into your programmes. And how fair and sensitive you and your team are.
As I stated on the Patreon channel.. If Damen/Amels were media savvy they would reach out to The Yacht Report within 24 hours of this posting if not sooner! Proper media training should be mandatory for any company employee or representative that is going to be attending a trade show. The world is super connected and a bad incident can go viral in hours and cause irreparable damage to a business’s brand. If I were Damen I’d offer a sit down interview with The Yacht Report not to discuss “blame” but to state that Daman regrets that the incident happened and then quickly shift the discussion to talk about the proud history of the brand and all the great things the yachting industry can expect from Damen… turn a negative into a positive! Even billionaire brands are not immune to social scrutiny these days and billionaires certainly don’t want to be associated with the negative attention! My 2 Cents! p.s. I would not automatically “sack” the marketing manager if her performance and values are aligned with the companies goals and objective…. this is a teachable moment for her and the rest of the team… if handled properly the unfortunate incident may turnout to be a high point for the company on several levels…. Crisis management, Employee engagement, Management values, Brand Image, etc. To: Rose Damen, (Managing Director Damen Yachts) Don’t miss out on this opportunity to lead by example and show the industry what the company and the Damen family is all about… they don’t occur that often in one’s career !
Fine comment and a very professional approach. Also, from another perspective, who desires to have publicity that their competitors will view with glee??
I'd say' that by this display of childish unprofessional behavior clearly shows their is an definite inability to fill the biggish shoes being worn at present ; imo a booth to walk past.
I hope the company doesn't lose any sales, because if it does, innocent, hard-working staff are likely to lose their jobs as a result of her attitude. However, I suppose it is just possible that she was told to act in this way by her boss. If so, a good PR person should be able to advise against such action. As for selling Big Issues - she's proved her ability to create big issues!
The really important people are rarely obnoxious. It is the tier below who often are. I m sure the CEO will have had a word with her about her comms ability. I'm sure he will have seen your video by now.
Interesting. I used to be a limo driver, corporate clients, and you`re exactly right. Top executives were almost always polite and respectful. It was their assistants and junior employees who acted like divas and treated me like a peon. I was going to say "like a servant" but I was in essence a servant; they just had no idea how truly rich people treat servants.
What a completely bizarre own goal. Imagine going to one of the largest events of the year for your industry and exposing a toxic internal culture and unprofessional executive team all in one go. Prospective buyers and employees alike should consider the wide range of potential implications.
My professional career as a naval architect working with oil company's tanker fleets. I was involved with a 5700 bbl oil spill as the On-Scene Coordinator for the cleanup. I know all about rude and derogatory comments. I have always been impressed with your knowledge, fair reporting, and honesty. If I was the Manager at Damon's rather than asking to leave, I would have asked for a private conversation, off the record, and without a camera. It would have been a good opportunity to discuss the supposedly "bad press." A good opportunity was lost.
@Stetsonhatman I doubt that. My guess is she was trying to impress someone else. Unfortunately, she picked the wrong time and the wrong person. Hopefully, she can use the feedback to improve her relationship with "the internet (press)." Her employers got poor publicity for the wrong reasons. I believe in DEI provided the most qualified person is hired. My experiences have been positive. I have found there as many poor white male hires as good hires when DEI had to be considered. The company I worked for had a training program on evaluating potential new hires. They taught us not to sell the company to people we were interviewing. Instead, we were taught to assess whether the interviewee would fit into our work environment. Would they be willing to get their hands dirty? Were they willing to make a decision? If the decision turned out to be wrong, would they correct the decision? The ability to recognize errors has nothing to do with DEI. It has to do with the ability of the individual. You don't walk onto the bridge of a ship and start pushing buttons. You don't walk into the engine control room and start flipping switches. While walking down the pier I observed one of our tankers unusually high out of the water. After walking up the gangway I found the loading arms in direct contact with the manifold to the point they were being bent. I walked into the cargo control room and ordered the mate to shut down all transfer operations. My actions averted an accident that would have resulted in an oil spill. Immediately after stopping the transfer operations, I alerted the Chief Mate and the Master and I explained what I did and why. I do not have an officer's license. I am a textbook engineer and not an operating engineer. However, I do have common sense, and I took action according to what I believed to be necessary. I looked for that ability in an employee.

For those who don't know: The Streisand effect is an unintended consequence of attempts to hide, remove, or censor information, where the effort instead increases public awareness of the information. The effect is named for American singer and actress Barbra Streisand, whose attorney attempted in 2003 to suppress the publication of a photograph showing her clifftop residence in Malibu, taken to document coastal erosion in California, inadvertently drawing far greater attention to the previously obscure photograph. The effect exemplifies psychological reactance, in which the attempt to hide information instead makes it more interesting to seek out and propagate
I think you handled the situation very well-they ended up making themselves look unprofessional. One piece of constructive feedback: the part of the video where you address the silly or negative comments isn’t really necessary. We all know it’s part of UA-cam life that people post comments we don’t agree with or that don’t make much sense. There’s no need to take time to address them, as your regular viewers don’t need those explanations. I feel for these people the best reaction, is no reaction at all.
As a former corporate person I can attest to the fact that there is no shortage of junior executives who got their jobs based on something other than qualifications. She seems to fall into that category.
She suffers from the MITU (more important than you) syndrome. You see it time and time again in the superyacht industry. Unbalanced people who work in it or on it tend to start believing they are millionaires like the people who employ them just because they occasionally come into contact with them. They’re the (overpaid) ones who, when the boss isn’t around, look down their noses at people admiring the yacht they are working on.

In my career in the oil and gas industry I dealt with Damen Shipyard and they were always very arrogant. In my retired state where I was a personal buyer of a, let's say 'decent size' tub (I need crew) many sales and marketing staff think that they are on par with their perspective buyers but in my experience there is little real understanding of the decisions we make when choosing... how can there be when we're in different shoes. Don't get me wrong, there are some fantastic people around but few and far between .. I was very happy to find such a person who had unbelievable passion and knowledge when I ended up custom designing and building.
Thank you for your ever objective and detailed reporting. You give us a peak into an exclusive and elite part of the world. Too bad for Damen yachting kicking you out, they made themselves look bad. Very contrary behavior from a “PR” person. Generating positive PR is the name of the game, and diplomacy is a key requirement for managing every situation. @@michelrodrigues110 what are you asking?
Who is Jared? Red shirt guy?
Your one of the go to's for seeing the Monaco Yacht show online! They should be embracing you and giving you Carte' Blanche !
Keep doing what you do and what folks love to watch - Jared is, was, and will always be a tool.
Didn't realize Jared was such a sheep! The look on his face when he was talking to you speaks volumes.
There's a fair amount of dodgy money in the new superyacht building game. Perhaps Damen / Amels feel they have more to hide than some of the other builders...
Worth TheYachtReport diving a little deeper me thinks!
Sounds like this lady had an attitude that does not promote sales? How bizarre.
Maybe someone will NOT go to them for a yatch purely on this behaviour? We can but hope. Nothing says 'your fired' quicker than you being the reason for a lost sale.
I wouldn't buy a yacht from them
give a little mind power, then something like this happens.
Most likely they have a fairly tight group that manage the company. I mean they are hiring spouses for major roles.
So yeah. A bit disappointed in Jared though.
That's the kind of woman than will bow and scrape and act like an absolute fool to get a sale, then think you a fool for buying from her.
I love watching your videos, they are very interesting and I love your honest perspective. My interest came sadly out of the Bayesian incident, but now find I love watching your videos as they are so informative. Many thanks Cx
Jared being a little snake , Foxtrot Oscar fella
Sent her lapdog 🙄🤦🏼♂️ lol
@@KonradTheWizzard 😁
@@KonradTheWizzard can you tell me one Super Yacht builder that hasn't done business with some incredibly shady individuals all through the guise of sanitised offshore companies, but the builders do little diligence checking over the chain of custody of the beneficial owners.
Good on you for standing up to the bullies, who sent the simp to protect them.
Jarred didn’t do himself any favors. Especially considering us UA-cam viewers put him where he is in the industry.
Who knows what they told him about the situation to be fair. Maybe he thought it was something entirely different afoot. The fact the other employee came down to see what the exchange would yield was a bit suspicious to me. Maybe they wanted to see if the "story" stuck. You might do that if you told a whopper to get a result instead of just telling your side of the story to a 3rd party.
I used to like Jared's channel years ago, but I'm surprised he's been left as a lapdog...

Unemployable
The kluxes at Damen/Amels appear clueless when it comes to media management. If you have a gripe with someone, invite them in for a friendly chat about your gripe ( in their case over a coffee). Declaring war on a media brand never works and you risk seriously damaging your own brand, as was the case here. Damen/Amels need to employ some grown-ups. I worked in media for decades and this was a perfect example for anyone doing media training, on how NOT to do it.
Thats happened to me a few times 🤣 I'm in the E/R or walking through the boat and some random person says hello and it turns out to be the owner 😀
My favorite one was the gentleman stood there in the E/R and he says to the chief snd captain "Strange when i take my Ferrari in a clean technician comes out puts a soft blanket over the paintwork...the entire workshop spotless and yet when i bring my yacht in to be refitted...it always looks like a gypsies front garden" 😀
I’m really impressed with your informative and interesting reporting style. Their behaviour was atrocious.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to lead by example and show the industry what the company and the Damen family is all about… they don’t occur that often in one’s career !
Fine comment and a very professional approach. Also, from another perspective, who desires to have publicity that their competitors will view with glee??
I hope her attitude costs Amels a horrendous amount of money in lost sales. You'll meet her selling big issues next year.
I'd say' that by this display of childish unprofessional behavior clearly shows their is an definite inability to fill the biggish shoes being worn at present ; imo a booth to walk past.
They will big time.
@@FeathersMcgraw if they let this happen, imagine where else they lack professionalism. Not unlikely they gossip about (prospective) buyers.
I’m pissed off! I’m definitely canceling my Amels yacht order now😡😡😡😡
What a completely bizarre own goal. Imagine going to one of the largest events of the year for your industry and exposing a toxic internal culture and unprofessional executive team all in one go.
Prospective buyers and employees alike should consider the wide range of potential implications.
Discretion should be #1 in this industry. Making an increasing fuss for your company seems severely ill-advised.
Shame on Damen / Amels.
I someone gets upset with your videos and reporting that means you are doing a good job. Keep doing them....
That is what a professional would do but I wonder if the person in question was a DEI hire.
I enjoy watching these videos.
I love the Monaco Yacht Show! Fly to Nice with EasyJet, stay in a cheap hotel and take the public bus to the show 🙂

Have Damen Yachts hear of the Streisand effect?

Very contrary behavior from a “PR” person. Generating positive PR is the name of the game, and diplomacy is a key requirement for managing every situation.
