Silver, one of your main worries is that the CMC all have the same cutie marks. But the cutie marks are *not* exactly the same. While they have the same striped shields, the symbols in them are all different, showing they have a degree of individuality while having a common goal to unite them.
True. I take it for granted that they subconsciously knew these things when they had their revelation. But it hasn't really been touched on since. Or at least not enough.
They may share the shield of the Group, but they also share a symbol of their respective "Family", as well as carying a more individual item on the same shield. If all Apples have an Apple on the mark?
Plus one could argue that scootaloo did contribute with that running backwards chase, apple bloom’s initiative to help diamond instead of shun her, and sweetly belle could have been trying to use her music skills to find a way to craft a message to both diamond and the school ponies. Song not needed because speeches and reasoning is as much an art as it is a strategic tactic.
Besides the shield...the insignia inside ARE different. Look; Apple Bloom has an apple with a heart in it. She’s the defacto leader/heart of the group, the one who's anxiety created it. Plus a lot of her best projects are a product of her heart and soul, making her more empathetic to others when given a chance. Sweetie Belle has a Star with a music note in it. It represents her skill as a singer and being the idea girl of the group, the one who helps keep everyone grounded. Plus the Star could represent her standing out from her sister, since they coulda easily made it a diamond like Rarity. And finally Scootaloo has a wing with a lightning bolt in it. The wing likely represents her dream of being able to soar with the others, or her "getting her wings" symbolically. And the bolt? Likely to go with her quick reflexes and instincts, since it’s shown she’s the most athletic of the three. So...yeah. Similar on the outside, but has a unique mindset within each individual.
Dejay Page Oh wow, I like these ideas as you put them! Especially with Apple Bloom's; I've been struggling to figure out what the heart could mean. "Just an apple" my shiny heart-studded - . . . (¬_¬) (*glares RHJunior's direction*)
Honestly it's likely why they got unique symbols in the shields. The shield is the only thing that's the same. And it makes sense they'd get it; Babs or Gabby are members, but these three are the LEADERS of the CMC. They created it after all. But the inner symbol represents their respective strength in the group; AB being the most empathetic, Sweetie being a problem solver and Scoots being the more quick witted of the three. Put them together and they are unstoppable
DRWolf001 I love to listen to him because he is very wise AND knowledgeable, for I know there is a difference between them. When I hear him and the words he says, I hear a friend that thinks like me enough to get along with, but having enough differences to be unique and stand out from everyone I know, and because of these I envy you for your close friendship with him. I wish I would have more people like silver quill in my life to share concepts, ideas, and experiences with that understand it the way he does (because I think similarly to his way of thinking) so that someone would understand me. Sorry if this sounds depressing. I've been fighting my own depression and at the moment it's a stale mate. I hope you and silver remain the best of friends.
Aside from the common Shield, she has a Star for Magic and the Note for Music. She is following Two Loyalties, aside from staying true to herself. This goes for all three of the CmC. Apple Bloom has an Apple and a Heart, Scootaloo has a Wing and a lightning bolt in it.
Well since the CMC have the same Cutie Mark. This presents their relationship as friends as a team. Also. The fact that those three have the same coloured shield on their Cutie Marks is the real question. That question was answered in the MLP book "ponyville mystery's" I think it's called that. Where the Crusaders make a new friend as weird stuff begins happening in town. And it turns out the CMC having matching Cutie Marks all ties into their destiny to save Equestria.
They still manage to maintain their individuality since all their marks aren't exactly the same since they have their own symbol within the CMC shield. It's more just to say that they are their own person but are united in a common interest or calling which is to help others find their own calling in life. If they all had the exact same mark then maybe there was something to worry about but since they are all different in a way, it just means that even though they share the same calling, they all still have their own individual personalities, interests and hobbies.
The Shield would be a common calling, when they help others to find who and what they are. These marks should be open for some groth along the way, I think. Remains to see how far on this development they will manage to go before they disappear?
The Shield by and of itself would only bind the pony to the destiny of the group, but it does not define the Pony. She would have to have something of her own in order to fit in with the group. The Shield is not a standalone item, is it? Ths could be an interesting Episode, if they put in the effort to make it as grand as the concept could permit.
Let's not forget though Silver-Quill, their Cutie Marks may feature the same template, looking identical from afar, but are unique when you take a look at them. This was seen most obviously (ironically), when the three 1st shouted that they all have "the same" Cutie Mark. Yes, the shield carried over from their old emblem to their marks, with the colors for some reason matching their hair colors, but the symbols on each shield are different. Scootaloo's features pegasus wings representing her struggles with flight and a lightning bolt to represent that speed you mentioned. Applebloom's features an apple to represent her ties to her family and a heart to represent her passion (or because she loves her family?). And of course, Sweetie Belle's displays a star (I assume to represent her unicorn magic) and a music note for the singing you mentioned. The similarities of the shield and color schemes merely highlight that they are united in their goals, but the symbols on said shields are their "true" cutie marks, like the black clouds around Luna's moon mark. If the shields weren't there, we wouldn't even be having this discussion
Because liking the show drives our attention to things that are considered unmanly, like friendship or subtle psychological intricacies of well-being, cooperation and self-actualisation. Silver-Quill puts those in perspective of our own world, because we know he's coming from the same place we are (methatphorically and physically).
Silver-Quill makes thinking about these things feel useful and practical, because as we know, maintaining our well being is important. I guess it's just positive influence of the show.
Some say that DT's redemption here happened to quick. Others say her reason behind her insulting fillies and colts without marks (her mother's behavior) was no excuse for all the years she mistreated them. But look at it this way; here, it's revealed that Spoiled Milk/Spoiled Rich always expects her daughter to be successful in EVERYTHING she attempts at. On that note, imagine all the talking down and insults DT must've endured from her mother. After episodes like Call of the Cutie, Flight to the Finish and others. Each time DT failed, she may have been viciously lashed at by her mother at home because of those failures. It is for this reason that I STILL felt sympathy/empathy for DT, during The Pony I Wanna Be. Honestly, I think it's dumb of parents/guardians to place such high expectations on their children
My personal head canon on Cutie Marks: A Cutie Mark, or rather the special talent they represent, is not only what a pony is best at, but also what brings them the most joy. This is as often metaphorical as it is literal, Cheerilee makes this point directly in her class on Cutie Marks in Call of the Cutie. Her Cutie Mark is three smiling flowers, which doesn't have any direct relation to teaching. But it doesn't need to be obvious or literal since a pony only gets their Cutie Mark once they realize their special talent, so they already know what it means. Diamond Tiara makes a similar statement here in Crusaders of the Lost Mark, where she says she knew from the moment she got her Cutie Mark what it meant, even if the symbology wasn't obvious. Many ponies can and will interpret their Cutie Marks as their destiny but that's not really true, they still choose the direction their lives go in, though their Cutie Mark will strongly influence this. And just like Diamond Tiara (and Trouble Shoes), just because a pony knows what their special talent is, doesn't mean they know how to properly use it to make their lives happier. A perfect example is Rarity. Her special talent is bringing out the beauty in things (not finding gems as many people seem to think). This first manifested in her gem finding spell, allowing her to bring out the beauty of gems hidden in plain rocks, but she does this with everything she encounters, from tree branches (Look Before You Sleep) to bird nests (Winter Wrap Up). She chooses to primarily do this through dress making, though she could have just as easily been a painter, or a sculptor, or even an architect. The same can be said for the rest of the Mane Six and every other pony; Their special talents could have been utilized in other ways than the way they chose. Cutie Marks are as much mundane skill and temperament as they are magic, but they are definitely magical. When a pony is working in harmony with their Cutie Mark the results range from exceptional to literally magic. We see evidence of this throughout the show whenever a pony's Cutie Mark is lost. Starlight Glimmer's cult thing in The Cutie Map shows this very well, as the Mane Six are unable to utilize their special talents with their Cutie Marks removed. Likewise when Tirek drains a pony's magic in Twilight's Kingdom, their Cutie Mark disappears. On the flip side, a special talent is unique to an individual even if they seem superficially the same (Cheese Sandwich and Pinkie Pie). Magical Mystery Cure shows this pretty well. Twilight swaps the Cutie Marks and thus magical talents of the rest of the Mane Six, but they're not able to utilize them effectively since they don't have the proper skill and/or temperament. Starlight does something similar with the royal sisters in A Royal Problem. The one way that Cutie Marks could be considered destiny is while a pony can choose how they utilize their special talent, they can't choose not to utilize it; What I've seen referred to as 'Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome': when a pony fails at their special talent or is unable to utilize it they suffer severe mental problems. Examples are Twilight Sparkle in Lesson Zero, Pinkie Pie in Party of One, and Fluttershy in The Best Night Ever. How does this map to the CMC and their similar Cutie Marks? My take is they're much like Cheese Sandwich and Pinkie Pie, they have similar talents--helping ponies with Cutie Mark issues--but have their own take on how to go about that, as emphasized by the fact that their Marks are similar but not identical.
I think what silver didn't notice is that the only thing that was the same about the cutie marks was the shield. But, inside the shield the marks were different. Applebloom had a apple with a heart inside, most likely symbolizing her love of her family and background. Sweetie Belle had a musical note, symbolizing her love of singing. Scootaloo had a wing with a lightning bolt on it, mostly likely symbolizing her love of flight and future promise. So in my opinion the cmc we're still individual but, thier marks also, symbolize how they came to be, by the cmc being a group and acting as a team.
This lesson you gave hit me hard. Mostly because whenever I try to give my opinion or tell an idea, either everyone ignores me or they tell me how it's wrong even if it's the right answer to something or the smart choice. Far more people should learn this lesson, then it'd be s great world we live in.
Dang. When a Silver Quill review helps you gain some understanding of your own struggles. Thanks, Silver. I didn't know it, but I needed to hear this. ^^
something i've noticed sometimes in fan art, it's that a uniform's insignia is often put where the cutie mark is, (ie. a soldier might have their unit's insignia on their armor's cutie mark), while underneath the uniforms, it's the individual's mark.
Awesome! I totally agree with your discussion of groups and individuality. As for cutie marks, I'd like consistency too. But maybe it's a very subtle and difficult to understand idea. The cutie camp episode in season seven made some clarification about whether something like that can brand you. Now, I'd like to go more in depth about it, and to see an episode where some pony wanted to change their mark.
Wow, you've the same thoughts about being a part of a fandom and how you act in public. I've always said "If you go out in public with anything to do with a fandom, you then represent that fandom to the public - whether you wish to or not."
..The Only reason I joined fanbases- Or Subject based Groups when I was younger and Even now- not intentionally- Is to not feel alone. I still don't fit in those groups- But I only joined to Push myself to like something I didn't- which always hurt me in the end. I didn't do it because I liked Doing these things- I just wanted the Label, So people would recognize me by that- and Not Ignore or forget about me- because I wasn't. I Like the way Silver Quill put it- Because I Never thought of this episode like that- It opened abit to me- The One group I did get along in though; was the One I formed a Foundation with my friends once. This Video gave me- a "Self awareness" I needed. I thank you for that- Because This Lesson You had given me- Opened abit more from your Observation- as To Why I did these things. I never thought about myself like that Until- Of all things- SA My little Pony Episode Review.. XDDDXDD! Thank you for that. If I'm honest-never thought to much towards why I DID- and- I just- Feel better now..Thank you! >v
I think what we need for the Cutie Mark Crusaders now, is to show what they're like outside the group. How are they defined as individuals, rather than as members of a group? "On Your Marks" teased at this in the last third, but then it was abandoned after that episode in favor of expanding the CMC's ranks and delving into how others view cutie marks. I feel like the show should try to go back to that "On Your Marks" direction and define the CMC individually, as we saw a little bit in Season 7.
thing is though the cutie mark crusaders marks 'are' diffrent, and yet the same....and each does represent who they are, the 3 of them value there friendship with one another extremely highly, thus the CMC shield, let us then break down the remaining aspects, scoots is easy, her desire to fly and her passionate adoration for rainbow dash and all that she represents apple bloom's apple and heart represent her compassion for others and her strong tie to her family sweetie bells star and note represent a potential talent for magic in the future and her aspirations for a career in music/show-business.
Hello! I guess what I want to say is, thank you for making these videos! I love your personality, wit, intelligence, and genuine appreciation for things great and small. I love that you chose to be a hippogriff, too! XD I just love that you've embraced your individuality and had the courage to show it to the internet! Thank you for doing what you do. :) I wonder, were you nervous at first? I'm on the eve of starting my own active channel & though I can't wait to start, I'm so very nervous, too. Can you help me?
Something that's bothered me about cutie marks is how inconsistent they work. For instance when Twilight accidentally switches her friends cutie marks it doesn't change their talents it just switches their roles but when Starlight steals the main 6's cutie marks they lose their talents. Starlight also switches the powers of Celestia and Luna via cutie marks and they only switched roles to see who had it easier.
Pelcogo well, Twilights spell messed with destiny, and so thats what changed, consequently changing cutie marks, Cutie Marks are mixes of destiny and talent, in a weird way. You get them when you know what you want to do in life. And look at the list: Rarity could alter clouds, tell me a unicorn had done that before? Rainbow Dash SEEMS to be able to understand them, just didn’t know how to take care of them. Fluttershy had the tools necessary to entertain, but wasn’t sure how to do that. Pinkie Pie KNEW the techniques to do stuff, just struggled a bit with some of them. Applejack could sew! Sure she had no sense of fashion, but she had the tools necessary to do it! They didnt have the talent, they had the tools
Well, the show has always been rather flimsy with Cutie Marks and Destiny. I mean, look at Amethyst Star during the 100th episode. Her cutie mark is 3 amethysts, but she's good at organizing.
When Twilight switched their marks, I got the impression that they took on what they perceived as being the important characteristics of the other pony. Pinkie sees AJ as a hard worker and so stopped goofing around and tried to work hard, for example.
Twilight is even BETTER at organizing, but her talent is MAGIC! Also, even Amethyst obviously had problems with organizing the Winter Wrap-up properly, so her being the best organizer might not mean that much. Her true talent is probably something else.
Loosing something is different than it being replaced by something else. And I don't think the ponies fully undertand cutie marks so when people explain them is their own understanding not something they red in a book of truths. But I think they are more than consistent enough.
My theory is that one Pony can get different Cutie Marks. Apple Bloom could have gotten a cutie mark on building, or alchemy, or in "helping others with their cutie marks".
i was always had the impression that shields for cuti marks were reserved for those who wish to protect or help others in some way. such as mr armor. so they have the same protecting/helping nature but they are still diferent. they all got the same shield symbol, but there own image planted on top of it. representing the fact that people can have similar talents or be in the same groups but are not completely the same.
Here's a thought; imagine a filly or colt had a crusader mark, after hearing what they do, they think it's a shoe-in that they'll get in and therefore doesn't work to better themselves. They come under the mentality that they are in fact this thing and it's owed to them. It causes the Crusaders' image and reputation to plummet because the 4th member doesn't do anything to help others find their cutie mark or something of that nature. I think this opens the door to a lesson about being defined by a group or something to that degree.
The entier "Group Cutie Mark" thing remindet me of a studie that was made years ago, about "genetical preposition" and the effect of knowing about it has on the testsubjects. Ironicaly the testsubjects that knew they where giftet with good genes where a lot less happy then the ones that had "worse" results. Because the ones with good fellt like they didn't realy accomplished what they did, they thought "well it was not me but my good genes". While the group with worse genes felt a lot more accomplished because "i did all this despite my bad genes". Yea yea a long tention, but i think if RD had a Wonderbolts CM she wouldn'd be happy, becaus in her mind she would not earn it, she is just there becaus here desteny told her to.
But ponies don't just blindly follow what their cutie marks tell them to do. It's usually earned after they have some sort of moment of self reflection. Personally I think that it's up to the ponies to decide what their cutie marks mean. Take Fluttershy's butterflies; that could easily mean she's into entomology.
Well, i considered the other 7 (entire, reminded, gifted, felt, really, wouldn't & because(a second time)) were minor, plus the grammar mistake (wrong tempus somewhere) being also lesser in comparison. Also, as english is not my first language either ..... i'm unsure about "tention", but cannot comment there. >_< ^_^
ah i make just fun of the guy that seems more interesstet in ortographical details than in acutal content of the text :P. Correting grammar on the internet is like trying to extinguish a vulcano with a bucket of water.
I think in some cases it's up to the ponies to decide what their cutie marks mean. Take Trouble shoes for example who thinks his destiny is always to have the worst luck but instead he decided it would represent his slap stick routines. What exactly does a diamond tiara tell you about your destiny, or bubbles, or an hour glass.
Pelcogo A diamond tiara can represent leadership and charisma, as Diamond Tiara said, “I’ve always know about how good I am at getting ponies to do what I want” bubbles can represent fragility and aimlessness, and an hourglass can represent ... well we don’t actually know much about minuet, so anything would really be a shot in the dark, but there’s a lot that an hourglass could represent.
honestly, i feel in time they will probably gravitate to what they love more, we need to remember that they are kids and have YEARS to figure out what their marks mean to them :3
Does a mark have to have but the one single clear cut definition as to what it is? A Diamond Tiara could be a Price in a beauty contest, or the sign of power in this case. What does Pinkie Pie's Balloons mean? Pinkie Pie does manage to fly in every posible way, and balloons are known to fly as I recall.
I guess I saw the individualized aspects as subconscious. They all knew the strengths they had and would continue to use, but found their fulfillment in their group effort.
I must thank you for this supplement video, I use to get so annoyed when someone said they left a fan base, but this video changed my views on that, leaving a fan group could be a good thing, sometimes even needed. That you shouldn’t let a group change your individuality for the worse. I enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing the next one.
Dear Silver Quill I find your statements within this video to be insightful and fascinating, which has held par to the standard of quality you have presented over the years. However I unfortunately cannot completely agree with your resolution. Like you I am not fully up in arms over the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally getting their cutie marks but my contraction comes from a slightly different avenue than yours does, if that makes any sense I am writing this after a long work shift. Ahem, anyway, I was watching Crusaders of the Lost Mark with my girlfriend when it finally came up on Netflix and just after the episode ended she turned to me and asked: "What is your OC's cutie mark again?" and i responded, "Scroll with wings why do you ask?" Her response was, "Oh then i guess we can't be friends, since we don't have the same cutie mark." Just for reference her's is a microphone in front of jury scales. Now before the comments of "i think she dumped you my friend," come in due note that we often talk deeply about an episode after finishing and usually comments like that aren't meant to be superficial. Plus she did clarify her intent which calmed me down considerably. Returning to point, her statement got me thinking, what about the Underlying message of this Episode, and I am rather shocked you didn't take that into consideration after spending so much time on it back in Amending Fences. While the deep, insightful, and motivational message you've provided is nice and all let us all not forget that this is a kids show and deeper meaning maybe lost upon them. If we look at this from their perspective, this episode is saying: "If you're good friends with someone you'll get the same cutie mark." Now I'm not sure alot of people took that away from this episode but I'm sure my girlfriend and I aren't the only ones who thought of it so here's my question: Is that a valid thought to consider with this episode and does that cheapen the message provided here? I remain your faithful follower Blaze Johnson
Why is it that even when I don't exactly agree with how you perceive certain things in the show I never feel the need to argue? You present your points and ideas in such a calm, calculative, and well reasoned way that I can only appreciate that someone has a different view on something and by hearing their view I can see things in a bit of a different light.
I have an alternative, it was established early on that they each had talents unrelated to their marks, dance, song, music, cloths, etc. And coming to here it seems like just a set up for the awkwardness of the episode at the time, however looking at those facts here it still relates their marks and talents. Each covers a different angle or side of a triangle and together can help individuals more effectively since together they cover so much. From creativity, to athletics, to family, all covered by three little fillies.
The CMC's cutie marks are probably one of the best ideas in FIM. I am really impressed with the writers for coming up with such a twist. It fitted the moral and the characters so well and opened up such great development for them.
As Twilight points out in 'The Cutie Re-Mark,' there's something special in the connection that forms between ponies who get their marks even around the same time, as the Mane6 did. Their marks and destinies resonate, linking them before they even know it. The Mane6 have their central role in Equestria and in FiM because of the ideals and characteristics they have come to represent, however at the same time they also have flaws and aspects that makes it easy for observers to identify with them. They are powerful, but, for lack of a better term, human, despite their power. And the CMC? Not only did they get their marks at the same time, in the same place, but their marks share common elements in a way that even the Mane6s marks do not: the Crusader shield, the three stripes in the colours of their manes, and even the inclusion of two personalized symbols for each of these three fillies -- all these elements speak of great potential for their bearers. Going into the season 5 finale I was under the impression the CMC would play a major role in dealing with Starlight, especially since cutie marks were a major theme throughout the season, and their helping others understand the purpose of their marks seemed very much in line with Starlight's quandary. Instead we got something that was completely left-field, although it was entertaining. But that just goes to show how powerful the resonance between Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle had to have been for them to get their marks in a way that had not been shown before, and has not been done since.
I personally agree with your statement to get out of a group who makes you change who you are. In elementary school, i joined an already formed group that had three other girls in it. They didnt told me to wear pink and i honestly thought that it was a choice, as i had never really liked the colour pink all that much. Next day i came to school wearing my normal clothes, got in trouble with the group and left it as i absolutely had to wear pink to join the group. In sixth grade i joined a group of people who had the same values as me and were just as weird and quirky as i was. One person in it turned out to be a total jerk but me and everyone else are still best friends three years later. Throughout those years, people started joining the group and i became popular just by being myself. I went from no friends to popular in the span of about a year and i didnt have to change a single thing about myself.
When in a group you have to make concessions to get something done. Everyone has different ideas so when working with others you'll never get something that you absolutely agree with. You always would like it different but you have to accept it as good enough or else things will lead to endless discussions. I'm doing quite a few RP's and working with people who refuse to let go of some of their ideals is almost impossible. You have to do a bit of give and take. I felt the same thing during the second Nightmare Night episode. Fluttershy should have scared the mane 5 even if she herself was uncomfortable with it. It's something that makes them happy and she should do it for her. In the RP I sometimes do a scene with her that I don't really like and she then does a scene with me that she doesn't really like. If neither of us were willing to go along with the things we didn't like we never would have done anything at all.
Actually, no. She didn't want to scare them and shouldn't be forced to do it. Especially since they are friends. Being a friend means you both show and receive respect. Part of that respect is about boundaries and understanding limits. If my friends wanted to have a horror film marathon I would decline because I can't watch horror movies. And I would expect them to respect that. Forcing someone to conform to the group regardless of their personal feelings and opinions is a form of oppression. It very easily turn into bullying or fear of exclusion. It is also a form of dictatorship. In fact, this mechanism is behind most cases of group pressure among youths. Rather than saying Flyttershy should do something she is uncomfortable with, and in extension saying everyone should do so. It is healthier to say that you and your friends should find something that everyone is comfortable with and think is fine. Not conform. Especially not on the expense of one's own health.
+Ikajo Your example is not really accurate because it is doing something side by side. You don't need him to enjoy your movie. It is oppression if it's always just one way. A friendship should go both ways so that means sometimes they compromise for Fluttershy and sometimes she compromises for them. The thing is that they are with 6 and finding someone everyone likes is impossible. There will always be something a few don't like. I come from a large family and if I had refused to play with my sister's barbies they would have never agreed to play games with me. There are limits to that of course. You shouldn't force someone to do something they absolutely hate but in a group you will have to do things that you don't enjoy for the benefit of others. They even had an episode about that in Sisterhoof's social. To be clear in Bats I was actually with Fluttershy because that is a really big deal and will have consequences. There you should put your foot down. But scaring them when they obviously like it is something Fluttershy will just have to force herself to do for the benefit of her friends.
marinus18 That is a really horrid way to view a friendship. People should force themselves to do something because their friends like it? That's not friendship. If the others wanted to be scared there were plenty of people who could have provided it. Making compromise means meeting halfway. Not forcing someone to do something they don't want. That's abuse. No meaning no is always valid. The relationship doesn't matter. No one should be forced to do something that makes them uncomfortable. You lose friends quickly if you try to force them just because you like it.
It's called making compromises. There are others that can do it but it means more to do something fun with your friend rather than one you dragged in just for that. Making a compromise means that both parties need to give in somewhat. What I was saying was that perhaps they could not do the scaring them but that Fluttershy does join them for everything else. Of course they should also do things that she wants. Being in a group means you'll never get to do exactly what you want. Doing something you don't want for someone else is called give and take. Fluttershy does something she doesn't like for them and later they will do something they don't like for her. If friends refuse to compromise they will also drift apart because doing fun things together is next to impossible.
I have to mention this now that you have said it SIlver. or rather because you did not say it. While the CMC have the same outline for a cutie mark they also have a different emblem on their's. Scootaloo was a wing within a Lightbolt, Applebloom has a Heart within an Apple, and Sweetie belle has a Lyrical note in a Star. yes they are linked together by their cutie marks but each one has their own talents reflected in their Cutie marks as well.
Then we need to be the best we kan, not just for ourselves but the good of the group we are taking part of. Even more so, with the theme under which we are making the point.
As a Christian, I feel this all too much. "You're a Christian, so you're defined by the worst representatives and the worst interpretations of your Faith, and DON'T try to defend yourself you bastard!" is the reaction some have to hearing that I'm a Christian. I've also seen people get pretty nasty about hearing that someone is a brony, and a whole host of other fandoms/faiths/creeds.
Have you considered doing a video about how the idea of 'talent' has changed over time? I remember an audio course about Shakespeare's plays, and it mentioned the view on talent being that of a God given gift. The idea was that it was a person's duty to utilize their talent for the benefit of the world. But this has changed over time, and may go against the individual's choices. I personally know someone who doesn't believe in the existence of talent because people seem to use the term 'untalented' as an excuse not to try. Plus, 'skill' can be learned. She also said once that a skill set determines duty. After all, what is the point of gaining a skill if you don't use it? But for me, that still goes against choice. Between my less than pleasing college experience, and all the doldrums I've wandered through since then in the job market, I've had to wonder about such things. But I do think I'm in a better place now, both job wise and politically. I feel like I am making contributions to the greater good. But the question of 'where do I go from here?' is still very real.
As you mention, they ARE the founders of the group, and I would say that really is the key fact here. Their marks do not represent group membership, but rather group creation. They found that their answer to "What do you do?"--whether you call it what makes them special, or their destinies, or their identities--was "We help ponies find and understand their cutie marks," and that they intended to do this as a group. That said, one might be able to justify another pony getting a similar mark if it was their dream to be a Crusader and help others find and understand their cutie marks. Such a mark wouldn't be a free pass into the group, and in fact would probably only appear once they proved they could be an asset to the group rather than just a fan with big dreams, but while I'd agree that defining your life goal by group membership isn't optimal, I don't see any reason this wouldn't be a valid cutie mark.
I recommend you, FINALLY, review the episode "The Fault In Our Marks." Because it, in my eyes, reflects the points you described here. That...aaaaaand the fact it has a certain creature that could be a relative of yours
Very wise. 1) Destiny is what _you_ do for the _world_, not what the _world_ owes _you_. 2) Your identification with a group should be an outgrowth of your interests.
Quill, I've watched almost every single one of your reviews. I honestly think that, amongst all of the reviewers I've seen, you make the most sense. Now, this is coming from someone who hasn't seen Doctor Wolf or Tyandaga (I apologize if I spelled your name wrong), and I've seen Bliss and Ink Rose. You all make sense, but I can understand where you're coming from in your reviews. Here is where I differ from you though. I like the fact that Applebloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo got the same cutiemarks. It keeps that Group mentality, while the fact that each one is slightly different gives a sense of individuality. If they'd all gotten the EXACT same Cutie Marks (a shield with a rearing pony in a cape), then it would be a different story.
The talant they have is to help other ponys whid cutiemark types problem, but they dont do it alone, they are best at it like a grop. (And love the vidio)
1:16 At that moment, I instantly thought of JFK’s quote, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I’ll bet that was Silver Quill’s inspiration for what he said there.
I think something Marks and Recreation (or Bloom and Gloom, I don't remember which one) stated was your cutie mark is meant to fit you... you don't fit your cutie mark. This would make sense for the CMC, they were just trying to get their own, instead of other ponies'. Another thing, the statement 'The CMC have the same cutie mark' annoys me to heck, because of how plain wrong that is. I think it's more, they have the same destiny or special talent, that being helping ponies find out who they are. That statement feels more like 'The CMC are the same pony'. The marks ARE different in the center, Apple Bloom having a heart and apple, Sweetie Belle having a star and music note, and Scootaloo having a wing and lighting bolt. One symbol showing respective species, and the other showing an individual talent. Their marks show same destiny, different pony. ~ Mintstar
Firstly I love all of your videos and this one is no exception. But I feel like you've missed something very key in how you've chosen to explore the meaning of their group cutie mark. Yes they achieved a group cutie mark and they all have very similar cutie marks that represents their unity, but what you didn't explore was how all of their cutie marks expressed something unique as well. An apple a lightning bolt and a star: what do those three shapes symbolize both to us as an audience and specifically to those individual characters? I can't help but feel like you are only looking at one side of this coin and defining it by that. Like looking only at one half of a yin-yang and saying it represents water. You may need to build a whole new supplemental supplemental video. Thank you yet again for your wonderful insight.
I always thought that appleboom was gonna being an 'applefarm repair pony' seeing how great she fixes stuff on the farm or not. Sweetiebelle a Singer. (Of course) Scootaloo a great stunt pony that likes to ride fast with her trusty scooter. Doing stunts and being a Daredevil.
Silver’s point about the CMC is why I’m glad Babs doesn’t have the same cutie mark as them, she’s still a member of the CMC, but she has her own talent.
I've actually gotten some flack for my cutie mark. People either don't understand what it means or think it doesn't make any sense. I actually like my Cutie Mark because it's unique. This episode did make me think about my cutie mark.
I think that if crusaders didn't form their friendship, they would just earn the cutiemarks that are inside of the shield emblem. Their cutiemarks didn't take away their special talents, but since they accepted their mission of helping others get their cutiemarks, they sort of sealed their destiny. The show made it clear that cutiemark doesn't appear overnight but when the pony is elated, finding their true calling. If the destiny was set, they would be born with cutiemarks, imo.
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ‘Mark twain.’ I think this best describes what the point of cutie mark is. It’s that epiphany moment when you realize what it is you want to do more than anything else. The funny thing is I think this particular aspect of the show is something that truly resonated with the unexpected demographic that came to enjoy the show, speaking of somebody over 30 themselves even now I still wonder what do I do? How can I contribute?
So, in a way, Autobot and Decepticon sygils are the opposite of cutie marks. Cutie marks define us as individuals, while sygils define us as a group. I really hope some portion of Transformers finally deals with it, instead of glossing it over all the time (there are IDW comics, but there's just so many of them you kinda loose track of it all)
Only the shield is the same. They still have individual marks. It reminds me of how Twilight has her big sparkle but 5 little white sparkles that represent her friends, the ones who empower her. They our each others shield/support.
4:26 SILVER YOU CAN NOT JUST RANDOMLY TOSS STAR WARS FEELS IN MY FACE IN THE MIDDLE OF A REVIEW ABOUT PASTEL PONIES GETTING UNVOLUNTARY TATTOOS I. WASN'T. READY!
Hold on. Anakin fulfilled his destiny. He brought balance to the force. Its the Jedi and their arrogance that believed BALANCE, in this case Yin and Yang, dark and light equally, meant that Anakin would wipe out the Sith. Boy were they wrong. Maybe they could have seen that if they pulled their heads out of their rears. Was rather sad about the children though. But then again, the Jedi allowed slavery to continue to exist because they became just another arm of the republic military. So, i guess the force took exception with their hypocrisy. On top of that he had twins who would help him take out Sideous. Now, neither side controls the Universe. It is returned to balance of gray.
While it can be a bit iffy with a group idea for cutie marks at the same time it’s also a simple way to show how their marks help them to show their deep connection to each other. Yes individual would have been awesome, but I think the shield motif works for the three because of the fact they each represent the three races of pony. Earth, Pegasi and unicorn. The three strips on the mark. Then the inner emblem helps convey their gifts. Apple Bloom while she has a gift at potions her real gift is her ability to care about others regardless of who they are or what they have done to them and to see when she’s done wrong and works to fix it. Sweetiebell has hers showing her musical talent as well as her creative thinking to solve a situation. She can craft an idea that can help her friends or others. Scootaloo is a free spirit full of energy and excitement she is athletic and clearly very strong, the wing shows that free spirited nature that definitely draws you into the task at hand. The Lightning bolt is definitely her athleticism and excitement because it strikes at the moment it’s needed most. She can help inspire others with these traits. Together the trio now have a balanced group that have individual talent that complement the others and make them a powerful message of friendship in regards to their group. Friends bring the best out in you a lot of the time and the CMC shows that in spades! Sorry this was long but I had to get it out . Thank you for the time to read this and have a lovely day! Also silver you are an awesome hippogriff and your videos always get me smiling.
I think Starlight would have been a for more fitting antagonist for the CMC then the Mane 6. Imagine how things would go if the CMC ended up in that village before they had their cutie marks. It could force them to examine everything they know about cutie marks. Now imagine how things would go after they had their cutie marks. Starlight may try to use them to show how true her philosophy is, and try to convert them into missionaries for her colt. Or how about they show up after they got their cutie marks, with their sisters during a camping trip in new territory. THE POSSIBILITY ARE AMAZING!! And we see some kids when we first get their, how would they react with them in all these settings. I will finish with one final quested about the season 5 premier. What if Fluttershy called Discord for help when they were in the brainwashing room? That gives me an idea for a story.
This is definitely well, Well, WELL After the Fact. Not sure if you took note that the episode came out On The Day of the 5 year anniversary of the show. And I'm sure by now you've seen pieces of their individuality as they tackle their new business. Well... Ok, Applebloom is giving life to plants through potions. Scootaloo is still a daredevil on her scooter. Though we haven't seen much of Sweetiebelle's singing.
From my perspective, this is not a question of destiny giving its blessing, but the Crusaders CHOOSING to create their own destiny. The Crusaders have done something unique in the world of MLP. Therefore, I don't think that it says anything about society in the way that you are describing Silver.
Here's something else about groups; it's okay to be part of more than one. I'm a proud member of many groups which include MLP, Star Trek, Babylon 5, and Dr Who. I have a fun and limitless life because of it.
First off? I think I know what a cutie mark is a mix of all three; a talent/skill that is a key part of who you are and how you can contribute to the world. This can range from motivating others in a general sense to having a certain set skills in one particular field. Which actually might explain shinging armor's mark. Sheild spells because he wants to protect what is dearest to him. Secondly? I feel ya Silver Quill. Leo from Yu-Gi-Oh 5DS is the first thing that comes to my mind here. Now don't get me wrong; I loved how Leo and Crow earned their places as signers and how Rex Goodwin was stripped of his place when shown unfit. However Leo's mark that allows him to be further connected to his sister Luna not only felt like a cop out to me rather than an extension of his personality. Yes, he's a devoted older brother and the two are a package deal but this is almost as bad as letting a group define who you are and your moarls. So having his ability pigback off of his sister feels like a step backwards instead of forwards. In contrast to Crow? Crow was never out to prove himself, he was never trying to get a signers mark, and he was focused on setting a good example for the kids he cares about while also being himself. He was trying to bring hope through something he still believed in even though reality gave him a rough kick but it's nothing new to him. Doesn't hurt that we don't know what Crow's signer ability is (though my headcannon is being able to tell rumors and ghost stories that are actually true from pure bs) which saves him from being something like letting the group defining who he is and rather he lets his actions speak for themselves.
I actually liked what they did with the CMC's cutie marks. It shows that they are part of a camaraderie, something greater then the sum of it's parts: like military platoons who all get the same tattoo, or those people you hear about who get two half's of a whole medallion and unite the pieces when they get together. I tried to do something similar with my friends and t shits that declare our name and each of the deadly sins we represent, but 'SLOTH' and 'GLUTTONY' made me call it off.
That's the thing about cutie marks. They are an expression of what the pony is, and while it's imperfect (for example Troublehooves) it is simply a picture on their flanks, which means they may not always understand what it fully means. That being said, as an expression of what that pony is, it expresses outwardly what most makes the pony happy and fulfilled. If a pony wouldn't be happy as a permanent cutie mark crusader (to use your example) they wouldn't get a cutie mark like the CMC did. If they didn't dream of being a wonderbolt, and had the talent and desire to be an amazing flyer, they wouldn't get a flying cutie mark. In the end, the mark is an outward expression of whats inside, a pony that would be happiest in a defined structure like the Royal Guard, or the Wonderbolts, or even the Cutie Mark Crusaders, WOULD have that kind of cutie mark. One who would not be happy in such situations, would not. It's really that simple. A very good friend and I spend a lot of time talking about what a cutie mark means to the ponies, and we've come up with quite a bit that I think fits with what we see in the show overall. The CMC got the cutie marks they got because they are happiest helping others find what makes them special. And you must remember, they have unique qualities in each cutie mark, Scoot's wing, Sweetie Belle's star with the musical note, and Apple Bloom's apple with a heart all show that those characters are not one dimensional. And I share your hope that future episodes will push the characters to grow. We've already seen some with Rarity's interaction with Sweetie Belle. These are wonderful characters, and I want to watch them grow and change. They provide their own unique view into the world that we have grown to love. And I hope to see more CMC episodes in upcoming seasons.
One thing in your video that got me thinking us what does this mean for Babs Seed. Technically she is a cutie mark crusader and if I recall she started her own group in...Manehattan I believe and she has a different cutie mark. I wonder what this could mean for her and her possible friends after hearing about the other CMC.
What Scootaloo said in regards to Babs not being able to be a Crusader anymore because she got her Cutie Mark can now be rendered a non issue as the group have redefined what the CMC is for. Originally it was just them trying to get their own Marks, but after this episode they realised a better purpose of helping others find their Marks. This basically implies that Babs can remain a member and can help others find their marks in Manehatten branch of the group.
I'd like to say that there should not be too much focus is placed on the shield as each one is unique and has its own design, Sweetie Belle has a star and a quaver, Scootaloo has a wing and Applebloom has an apple. As I see it, the images on their shields are to reflect them and their personalities as individuals and the shield itself to represent their group decision to help others that they made at the same time. So in essence, their cutie marks could be considered their own personal coat of arms. But what I take from the design and the following episode featuring the CMC is to not allow an organisation or group define who you are as an individual, your life, or to become misguided should things go awry, but if you are passionate about it, you have a responsibility to do your best to not misrepresent the group or corrupt it. Everyone is unique in their own way and should not allow their voice to be drowned out by a group as they can add something new to the pot that helps enrich lives, however, people should not feel entitled or excused just because they are apart of something. Also, similar experience while I was a member of the Saint Johns Ambulance Cadets (a long time ago), another cadet felt that he could jump the queue at a food stall just because he was wearing the uniform, and we were told that we should not do that by our division leader.
Future episodes pull away from restricting ponies to ONLY their cutie mark as things they can become skilled at. The Cutie Mark is a favorite profession/skill, but other skills can be learned and ARE learned. "Enlightened Self Interest": Interest in one's own well being and improvement of station in life while avoiding dishonest methods of gain. Example: You can be a business owner, who seeks to make a better product than your competition, and to be a bigger success, without deliberately undermining other businessmen or cheating suppliers. Honest business, hard work, and a better product/marketing will get you ahead, while also allowing others to operate in the same vein. Those who seek to lie, cheat, and steal are NOT part of this view.
I have idea that unicorns that have there talent in magic, have a speciality like somepony that's good a transmogrification or a unicorn that's good at time magic.
Pretty sure Twilight and Starlight have all around magical skills rather than a specific magical skill. Twilight has TK, teleportation, transmutation, illumination, she can project herself through literature and inanimate objects, can grant her companions Icarus butterfly wings, can in case ponies in crystal, can cast energy beams and can charm a children's toy to be the object of intense desire. And those are just the powers I can remember. Starlight more or less the same but she can also levitate herself and remove cutie marks as well as hypnotize ponies and bottle her emotions. So yeah I don't think there is any limit to what a magically destined unicorn can do with a little time and practice.
OceanicEmpireMapping then how do you explain Minuette/Colgate's cutie mark? It's an hour glass and her house has an hour glass-shaped door. And only Star Swirl could really make a time spell, later changed by Starlight.
Pelcogo true in those cases both Twilight and starlight have an all around speciality for magic but what I mean is unicorns with talents in magic they can do pretty much everything magical related, but one pacivice (butchered that word) magical ability or related magical abilities come easier to them. I hope this makes sense
question 1: yeah what about colgates house, if you mean the cutie mark to meaning time and having a talent in it well that's not what I meant by my first thought Question 2: that was just and example
OceanicEmpireMapping fair point. But you were bringing up how some unicorns are good at certain kinds of magic. But if time magic could only truly be perfected by a combo of starlight and star swirl, then where does that leave Colgate and her hourglass cutie mark?
It's possible that nopony knows what cutie marks really are, but they each have their own theory (that it's their destiny, that it's an important part of who they are, etc.)
I think I can solve this cutie mark craziness. I believe as well as the obvious-ness of 'special talent/what you are good at', cutie marks are a representation of a pony's element. Hear me out; an element can be said to be ones true self, or who they are, or what defines them as THEM. RD got hers when she was being loyal to Flutters and defending her honor. Fluttershy got hers being kind to animals. Rarity was being generous to her classmates. Pinkie was making her family laugh and have fun. Applejack was being honest with herself (often the hardest kind of honesty) Twilight was, well, performing extreme magic. This would make a cutie mark a representation of your truest self as well as what you are good at in life. When one discovers what defines them as a person, what they live for, or what they value most, they get their cutie mark. Would this mean everypony has an element? Of course. Maybe they aren't all shiny crystals, but they don't need a physical representation to have one. Would this mean some ponies have the same element, like the CMC? Sure. Many people value similar things, and that's where the unique talent comes in. (Music for Sweetie, scooters for Scoots, ad an Apple for AB). I'd love some feedback or places where this doesn't make sense. That way, I can improve on this theory some more.
I have a thought for that. Each CMC member had the same shape; a dull cherry, coral and dull grape shield, and I think the reason is because they were the FOUNDERS of this group. Other ponies would be allowed to join, but if Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo make it into the history books after death, ponies can look at a picture of their cutie marks and instantly know they were the founders of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. For example, Gabby the Griffon was only the fifth member of the CMC, but she was the first NON-PONY member. Therefore, since she couldn't earn her own cutie mark, the CMC founders fashioned her a cutie mark like theirs, with a trophy, because her talent was helping others get things done. But I also have other reasonings. First, the colours. I am very into learning what certain shades, tints and hues mean symbiolically. Therefore, if the staff were thinking along those lines, these colours would define something about the group. First, the dull cherry and coral would generally mean, in this case, activity and sociability. These two colours would symbolize the fact that the CMC is all about directly helping other fillies and colts find out what sort of action they are supposed to do. The dull purple would mean an emotional and spiritual connection, such as the CMC dutifying themselves to the mysteries of the Cutie marks, an otherworldly concept, and how their work is slightly centred around helping ponies deal with confusion, anxiety and nerves. There are also the middle and inner symbols to consider. Each middle symbol is the shade plum, which resembles one of Twilight's mane streaks, which brings up their importance in Equestria, and how the CMC had Twilight Time, how their big sisters are best friends with the resident Ponyville Princess, and how a lot of the Princesses have purple in some part of their design: Princess Celestia has grape eyes, Princess Cadence has plum eyes and some lilac in her hair, Princess Twilight has plum in her mane, a purple coat, and violet eyes. Also, the inner symbol is always neon purple, again, regarding the Princesses. Also, if you're thinking to yourself, "well, the CMC aren't Princesses", I was just reminding everyone that the Princesses are the most important ponies in Equestria, alongside the Wonderbolts and the Mane Six. And it's not just the colours that have meaning, it's the shapes too! Apple Bloom has an apple as her middle symbol, which represents her ties to Sweet Apple Acres, the Apple Family and Ponyville. She also has a heart as her inner symbol, which supports her personal belief in the use of Tender Loving Care, which is what the Apple Family prides itself on, and probably what Apple Bloom had in mind when she fixed up the CMCC, or the Cutie Mark Crusader's Clubhouse, in The Show Stoppers. Sweetie Belle's is easier to recognise, without too much reading between the lines involved. Her middle symbol is a star, representing her need to shine bright (like a diamond, but a diamond's sister), and her inner symbol is a musical note, which symbolizes her love of singing. And finally, Scootaloo's middle symbol is a wing, which may seem ironic at first, what with her apparent innability to fly, unless you consider the fact that it is inside of a shield, and if you look back at Flight to the Finish, you will realize the message of the episode is about not letting other people's taunting, especially saying you can't do or be something because of some physical difference from the status quo, make you consider abandoning the thing you love most. This would mean that her wing inside a shield would represent her deepest desire of being able to fly, and how she's not going to let anyone tell her she can't do something because she hasnt achieved it yet. Also, her inner symbol is a lightning bolt, which symbolizes her speed on her scooter and her love of activity, such as scootering, dancing and bungee-jumping. These were just my fairly deep thoughts regarding their cutie marks. It is doubtful that the show staff actually thought this far into it, but I enjoy expressing my opinions, however lengthy they may be.
I would've thought you'd focus on how they didn't have the exact same mark, instead they had the same background indicating how they bonded over it with a foreground of a symbol that describes their individual talents essentially merging individuality with unity.
What is a cutie mark but a constant reminder that we're all only one bugbear attack away from oblivion?
Lmao
Besides the shield...the insignia inside ARE different. Look;
Apple Bloom has an apple with a heart in it.
Dejay Page
Oh wow, I like these ideas as you put them! Especially with Apple Bloom's; I've been struggling to figure out what the heart could mean. "Just an apple" my shiny heart-studded - . . . (¬_¬) (*glares RHJunior's direction*)
Dejay Page, yeah, it's strange that barely anyone brings that up...not even the show really does.
Yes! Very well said!
Poninefreak :)
Well spoken sir :)
DRWolf001 sometimes I see a bit of you in silver and other times I see a bit of deadpool and pinkie in silver in other times
True on that Drwolf. True on that
I enjoy following Silver Quil, for all the fun in how he is presenting his case.
If the shields weren't there, we wouldn't even be having this discussion
...how is it that, no matter what your videos cover or why...they ALWAYS manage to make me feel GOOD about being a brony? How do you do it?
By catering to your demographic.
Mind me, I'm not an expert, soo... take what I say with a grain of salt
TatsurouKaos oh, I know the feeling. In fact, Silver Quill is the reason I wanted to get into reviewing
A great example of this idea is the Boy Scouts, as they give you new experiences to help you grow as a person.
My personal head canon on Cutie Marks:
A Cutie Mark, or rather the special talent they represent, is not only what a pony is best at, but also what brings them the most joy.
I Like the way Silver Quill put it- Because I Never thought of this episode like that-
It opened abit to me-
The One group I did get along in though; was the One I formed a Foundation with my friends once.

I feel like the show should try to go back to that "On Your Marks" direction and define the CMC individually, as we saw a little bit in Season 7.
thing is though the cutie mark crusaders marks 'are' diffrent, and yet the same....and each does represent who they are, the 3 of them value there friendship with one another extremely highly, thus the CMC shield, let us then break down the remaining aspects, scoots is easy, her desire to fly and her passionate adoration for rainbow dash and all that she represents
apple bloom's apple and heart represent her compassion for others and her strong tie to her family
sweetie bells star and note represent a potential talent for magic in the future and her aspirations for a career in music/show-business.
IT WAS WORTH IT WAKING UP TO WATCH THIS! WOOP WOOP!
And look at the list:
Rarity could alter clouds, tell me a unicorn had done that before?
Apple Bloom could have gotten a cutie mark on building, or alchemy, or in "helping others with their cutie marks".
i was always had the impression that shields for cuti marks were reserved for those who wish to protect or help others in some way. such as mr armor. so they have the same protecting/helping nature but they are still diferent.
they all got the same shield symbol, but there own image planted on top of it. representing the fact that people can have similar talents or be in the same groups but are not completely the same.
i think that the items inside the shield are their individual talents then the shield is when they are helping others find their cutie mark
Not likely to happen, given if they had that mark, it would be because they really did feel just as strongly about doing this as the CMC did.
* *than* the ones
* because her destiny
Only two mistakes? not bad for a none native speaker xD
Exactly, the Marks are symbols of who that pony truly is, but like all symbols, they can be interpreted in many ways.
Yeah for instance time turner and Minutte both have hour glasses so does that mean they have the same destiny?
honestly, i feel in time they will probably gravitate to what they love more, we need to remember that they are kids and have YEARS to figure out what their marks mean to them :3
Does a mark have to have but the one single clear cut definition as to what it is?
Dear Silver Quill
I find your statements within this video to be insightful and fascinating, which has held par to the standard of quality you have presented over the years.
I remain your faithful follower
Blaze Johnson
In a way, I called this a few years ago in a Spacebattles post. I guessed that their future Marks would involve the act of Mark Crusading itself.
2:57-3:56 Just tagging the timestamp before your great message about how groups get defined by good and bad things, such as the body pillow.
The CMC's cutie marks are probably one of the best ideas in FIM. I am really impressed with the writers for coming up with such a twist. It fitted the moral and the characters so well and opened up such great development for them.
I have no words to describe it that was prefect Great job Silver:)
Unless you are the boss
+Ikajo
Your example is not really accurate because it is doing something side by side.
Scootaloo was a wing within a Lightbolt, Applebloom has a Heart within an Apple, and Sweetie belle has a Lyrical note in a Star. yes they are linked together by their cutie marks but each one has their own talents reflected in their Cutie marks as well.
unfortunately i have seen too many people lash out at the brony community for the actions of a few individuals. it's a sad reality.
Replace 'Brony' with 'any' and you've more or less summed up everything.
pretty much.
You are so right
Well said and good to see you back
Have you considered doing a video about how the idea of 'talent' has changed over time?
I like what you said about groups. That was nice.
2:45 HAS NO ONE SAW BUTTON MASH IN THIS EPISODE, BECAUSE I HAVE!
I recommend you, FINALLY, review the episode "The Fault In Our Marks." Because it, in my eyes, reflects the points you described here.
That...aaaaaand the fact it has a certain creature that could be a relative of yours
this was an amazing vid Quill
I really like Shining's cutie mark as it shows that it's his destiny to protect others using his magic.
1:16
At that moment, I instantly thought of JFK’s quote, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I’ll bet that was Silver Quill’s inspiration for what he said there.
~ Mintstar
I like what you pointed out.
Thank you yet again for your wonderful insight.
excelente trabajo, te quedo de lo mejor, tienes mucho talento
:3
AAAAAAAAAAANND Silverquil proves himself the fandoms philosopher once again
I always thought that appleboom was gonna being an 'applefarm repair pony' seeing how great she fixes stuff on the farm or not.
Sweetiebelle a Singer. (Of course)
Scootaloo a great stunt pony that likes to ride fast with her trusty scooter. Doing stunts and being a Daredevil.
Silver’s point about the CMC is why I’m glad Babs doesn’t have the same cutie mark as them, she’s still a member of the CMC, but she has her own talent.
Hail the CMC
I've actually gotten some flack for my cutie mark. People either don't understand what it means or think it doesn't make any sense. I actually like my Cutie Mark because it's unique. This episode did make me think about my cutie mark.
I can't believe I didn't notice the palate swap of scootaloo and sweetie bell at 0:21weird. Anyway great video!
"No other pony should bear the cmc emblem." I love how s6 completely blows that out of the water. 😂
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
‘Mark twain.’
I think this best describes what the point of cutie mark is.
I really hope some portion of Transformers finally deals with it, instead of glossing it over all the time (there are IDW comics, but there's just so many of them you kinda loose track of it all)
I think that they have TWO talents but they all have helping others
sweetybelle: singing
scootaloo: riding her scooter?
applebloom: farming
They don’t have the same cutie mark. They have similar. There is a difference. Basically you represent a group and yourself.
Only the shield is the same. They still have individual marks. It reminds me of how Twilight has her big sparkle but 5 little white sparkles that represent her friends, the ones who empower her. They our each others shield/support.

I like it how funny you are quill! Keep up the comedy
THIS VIDEO IS IMPORTANT.
And then the Gabby episode happens and Silver Quill was proven wrong... Or... was he proven right? I guess we'll have to wait to see
Gabby the Griffon has the same 'cutie mark' as the CMC
Great video.
OMG A NEW EPISODE!!!!
Cutie Marks Explained:
nuvaprime.deviantart.com/journal/Cutie-Marks-Explained-718931702
I hope this makes sense
question 1: yeah what about colgates house, if you mean the cutie mark to meaning time and having a talent in it well that's not what I meant by my first thought
Question 2: that was just and example
Applejack was being honest with herself (often the hardest kind of honesty)
Twilight was, well, performing extreme magic.
