@@StarshipVGer And with American Boy Bands, same thing. Albeit a much slower pace. First the Beatles, then One Direction. Hopefully, the 2020 - 2040 one will be good...
I kinda like seeing these different pop-stars. Ever since the 1940s and probably before that, there have been multiple music artists competing with each other, so I don't mind seeing these other artists and listening to their different styles.
@Benjamin Smith. Yeah, but after new ones are introduced, it seems like the old ones just disappear. I mean, when was the last time we've seen Sapphire or Rara? The closest I can think of was her human counterpart in an Equestria Girls short.
Ideally, Rara found a new manager who helped her to combine the glitz and showmanship of her Countess Persona, but with a more genuine voice and heart. More like a Pink concert, than a Gaga. And a shrinking fanbase and appeal doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be successful. Just less indulgent. She was heavily inspired by Gaga, who started out acting and drssing weird and wild to get attention, but later toned down her persona to try to be more genuine. Yeah, she doesn’t hit the headlines as often, but she’s still popular.
Knew she was doing that craziness for attention! Though wouldn’t be surprised if that was influenced on her as I believe she has said that when she started out she was manipulated into a lot of things.
A manager is not supposed to be the heart. THey are supposed to be reality. That is a good thing as that means a creator can let themselves go and follow their heart. Knowing they will have a manager who will keep them from going too far or doing impossible things. Managers also help creators by giving them more time. THey take care of everything around the music so that the artist can focus more on what they love.
Something tells me I better hurry and hire an artist to do that MLP-themed KISS album cover... but which would be better: Destroyer, or Love Gun? My bet's on Destroyer because they would look like the Four Horses of the Apocalypse.
In terms of comedy from the rebranding of "Continuity" to both "Cross-media continuity" and "Brutality" to the constant intentional misinterprets of Rara's ponysona this has been the best episode evar!!
I like this how Applejack's honesty is show in this episode. In the comic she could not tell a lie at all no matter what and she endangered an entire species because she couldn't make a simple lie to hide the Pigasues' existence form those that would harm it.
I just LOVE how you find media outside of mlp that explains what you're saying or expose how deeply the writers think about their plots by describing the references. Each of these videos are fantastic little essays!
Yeah, I honestly prefer "The Magic Inside" over "Spectacle". "Spectacle" was distracting for me, from the fake-sounding auto-tune to the electric lights that should have made the episode come with an epilepsy warning. Yes, that was the purpose of "Spectacle", but that's exactly why I don't like it. "The Magic Inside" may be softer and mellow, but it's the more genuine of the two.
I too prefer "The Magic Inside", but like both. I think both also could be fleshed out further. "Spectacle reveling in the artificial extolling the trappings of wealth and fame while remaining vapid and soulless; Magic then is a tumble of emotion formed into a song exploring being true to one's inner self and fully realizing that if the fans don't join her on this journey of returning to her core it is all over. As far as genuine being better, I also much prefer in "The Grinch" with Jim Carry the in-film version of "Where are you Christmas" to the end credits one: simple, clean, plaintive with a touch of introspection vs studio polished, multi-layered, engineered to be a pop hit lacking true emotion.
Silver, you magnificent stallion, you did it again. Your humor and personality made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. I love seeing your videos and the cartoony humor you bring to the after the fact videos puts Pinkie Pie to shame.
I’m pretty sure Svengallop isn’t the kind of pony to simply walk away from his money tree once they start to rebel. He would have taken her to the courts and possibly paid the judge to give a ruling saying that she either stay with Svengallop, this time with more restrictions on what she can do, or be banned from the entertainment industry altogether. Because that’s what happened with Ke$ha a few years ago when she tried to leave her creep of a manager. He sued her, and the judge ruled in his favour, locking her in a further three year contract with him, no doubt with more restrictions on her actions.
Except her old best friend is best friends with a princess, who can pull favours from the other princesses if she really wanted to. Taking things to their legal limits in the Principality of Equestria, against someone personally linked to any of the princesses, seems like a really bad idea to me. But it'd not as if the princesses would go so far as to banish Svengallop to the moon... right?
@@BNuts Except Svengallop didn't know that. But now that you mention it, now I really wish he did that, just so I can see the look on his face when he realises he got on a the princesses' bad side.
Most would do that. A court is not cheap and paying a bribe to a judge is even more expensive. Not to mention it will cause a massive loss of public face for him. Also even if he bribed judges are trained to be morally upright and uphold the law. While not all reach that height quite a lot do and so even bribed the risk of losing the case is still present. So it was the intelligent thing to do to just walk away instead of raising more of a fuzz.
marinus18 Then obviously Ke$ha’s manager wasn’t a very smart guy. He got so many fans and other pop stars like Lady Gaga and her own manager demanding Ke$ha’s release.
More Silver Quill is what makes the day a bit better. I get to learn more about my favorite show and expand my knowledge in a interesting way. Thanks Silver!
Sure did pay off now that Gaga has Joanne and A Star is Born under her belt now, she’s all but shed her diva persona. And this was all lucky coincidence because neither of those things existed yet when this episode was released.
Excellent review, Silver. This was an episode I absolutely adored for many of the same reasons you brought up. Then there were some I learned just now from this review that made me love the episode all the more. Keep up the great work, man.
I don't think Trixie would take to 'The Countess' as you described her. Simply because she wants herself to be known, not a character, even though half her act IS a character she plays, it's still her in a sense
Definitely agree. Trixie's persona is a defense mechanism to hide insecurities, which is why she has so much trouble dropping it even in private with Starlight. Also, it may have started out as something conscious and intentional, but by now it's instinctive. Changing to a 'Countess' persona would not only be difficult because of habit, but would be virtually impossible due to it being tantamount to admitting to those very insecurities she's trying so desperately to hide.
There would be no middle ground, she would either reject it outright or take to it like a fish to water. I'm inclined to agree she would reject it as she has trouble sharing the spotlight and likes to run things herself.
she's a magician, not a singer...... if she had been as her craft I'd seen it being a rather... (ahem) magical friendship. ;''3 Also "when" or at what point in time matters also in such things...
I can't express enough how much I appreciate your inclusion of psychological analysis in these reviews, Silver. Your insight about the Culture of Character vs. the Culture of Personality gave me way more of an appreciation of this episode! And I've loved your repeated references toward Jungian Archetypes, MBTI, etc. :)
My bet is that Rara LOVES her new singing and charity tour career, while enjoying a very caring and loyal fanbase due to how genuine she is with her art. She's likely happier with the smaller fanbase and less fame than she ever was being just another pop star. Also, there are a number of real life singers/stars who have careers that follow the same path. Starting under a manager with a manufactured persona, then achieving a different type of fame by dropping the persona and performing as themselves once they got sick of pretending. This is another fun review, Silver Quill. Thank you.
Best Applejack episode in the series? You think so as well?! Love it so much. Definitely AJ's best showing. (IMO). And the episode itself is just really good (IMO).

Silver Quill was dressed up as Gene Simmons from KISS (who I'm going to see perform live today on their final tour BTW) in the title card... ... ... ... ... I didn't know how much I needed this in my life until today!!!!
Glad to see you got to sink your beak into an episode you really loved. That's always enjoyable. That's an interesting comment made about fan reactions to the two songs. I have to admit though, I didn't really encounter that for myself. Everyone I know adores "The Magic Inside/I Am Just A Pony." When Lena Hall sang it in person at PonyCon 2016, she brought the house down. Of course, I'm sure there are some who like "Razzle Dazzle" more, but it in general "Magic Inside" seems to be considered one of the best songs in the whole series, at least from my experience.
Wow..... You pointed out some things I missed. Thanks for doing what you do, Silver Quill. Your reviews, re-caps, and theories help me understand the episodes and the lessons they teach better and better.
I love that title card, mainly AJ and Ra-Ra's reactions. Ra-Ra is infinitely confused by silver's weirdness, while AJ has more of an "Oh boy, what's he doing this time? Don't worry, Ra-Ra, you get used to it." Great work as usual, silver!
Know what i love about silverquills videos? Not only is he talking about a show we all enjoy, but we manage to learn a bit of philosophy, and literary history. I have no idea about the book trilby or that the manager was such an in-depth reference to said book. It's amazing the things you can learn from a kids show, and I'm not just talking about their overlying messages. I think if silver was a teacher his classes would be so enjoyable.
The Countess Coloratura song never did anything for me honestly, but "Rara's" song makes me cry just about every time I hear it. I find it very deeply moving, and it's got a permanent slot in my ever-growing list of "favorite" songs from the franchise. There is also Diamond Tiara's "The Pony I Want to Be", Sunset Shimmer's "My Past is Not Today", Fluttershy's "So Much More to Me", and both of the ending songs of Legend of the Everfree, to name the others that really seem to stand out the most to me even amongst my "top" list. Not in any particular order.
oh man this is such a great video about such an amazing episode! I don't know how much time you spend writing these, but there are some absolute gems in your videos... I really love "sincerity doesn't have to demand attention"
this is my favorite episode of extra credit because as a stage technician you're talking about things that I know about I'm sitting here screaming oh my God oh my God I know this I know this.
Sooo 3 things here. One I'm happy your still working through after the facts and look forward to many years of them (and other videos) as you still have 3 seasons to catch up on. Two if Rara completely changes her style does that make Saphire Shore's the biggest pony pop star in Equestria again? Finally not sure what was going on with the constant mistaken names it felt like it was leading up to some final joke and didn't so I think I missed something there.
Was expecting SQ or Firebrand to be playing a vioin next to Sapphire Shores, as viewed with a side pan. Got a trap door instead. This. This is why we love your sense of humor Silver. :)
jesus christ. my favorite parts of your videos isnt the witty humor which i love, but the references, historical background, your clear understanding of the names, events, and books you refer to us, beyond just wiki-ing it. i realy wish we could meet. no one at my college, even other people in my major can realy sit down and discuss things for long periods of time if it doesnt directly relate to whats going on in a mutual class at the time.
Some performers can exist equally well in many drasticlaly diffrent styles. Above & Beyond, even Lady Gaga who is classically trained. her fan base could stay the same or even expand by showing other sides of her performance abilities. Plus I get the feeling Ponies are generally more accepting and easier to please then the average human.
Sapphire Shores gets replaced in this episode. And then Countess Coloratura gets replaced by Sia pon-, I mean Songbird Serenade. Such a cruel cycle.
Kinda mirrors earth pop sensations. Always being replaced by the next big thing.

When Lena Hall sang it in person at PonyCon 2016, she brought the house down. Of course, I'm sure there are some who like "Razzle Dazzle" more, but it in general "Magic Inside" seems to be considered one of the best songs in the whole series, at least from my experience.
One off my favorite songs of the series. You are still the best silver.
That is funny. "Open Season Jerk-Star."
WONDERFUL!!!!!!! Been waiting some time for a new video. Great to see you haven't left the fandom! Great work!
The intro card made me spit out my tea.
Absolutely brilliant, Silver Quill. Absolutely brilliant.
RahRah:What's he doing?
AJ:You'd get used to this.
SQ:Rock n Roll!
“Brutality “ lol hide the children!
This was an amazing episode review silver you triumphant Trumpeter!
Take a shot for the many times Silver Quill gets Countess Coloratura's name wrong.

Fantastic video as always Silver Quill. Have a wonderful day.
Ah another well done review. I just love how you put insight into the show by using out of show comparisons such as older books and movies.
It's been more than five years since Silver released that video. Mind blowing.
Silver quill is the best have a nice day
oh man this is such a great video about such an amazing episode!
I don't know how much time you spend writing these, but there are some absolute gems in your videos... I really love "sincerity doesn't have to demand attention"
I love how he fails at her name in possibly 1000 different ways but only says it right like twice. Good job silver quill. I love it
It is GOOD to hear from you silverquill
You do amazing videos
GOOD JOB 👍
this is my favorite episode of extra credit because as a stage technician you're talking about things that I know about I'm sitting here screaming oh my God oh my God I know this I know this.
..did Eliyora do the Sapphire Shores scream?
My Favorite Episode.
Silver Quill, you amazing avian, it is always good to see more content from you! Thanks for making my day!
Loving the new names you've come up with since you reviewed this on the MBS show.
Another well-thought-out awesomely entertaining video Silver!
Being a metalhead, duuuude, your outfit in the thumbnail is slayin!! I love it 😂🤟🏻
It's always a joy to watch your videos Silver
silverquill, your videos are always a treat to watch
at first I didn't think much of this episode but after watching your video i realized that this is one of my favourite episode
Silver Quill, you should do Top Bolt and/or The Perfect Pear, I'd love to hear your take on these episodes
New silver quill yay!
I really like that scene you did when you were speaking to Applejack. Nice review! : )
5 days after my birthday but I still find this the best birthday present
Sooo 3 things here. One I'm happy your still working through after the facts and look forward to many years of them (and other videos) as you still have 3 seasons to catch up on. Two if Rara completely changes her style does that make Saphire Shore's the biggest pony pop star in Equestria again? Finally not sure what was going on with the constant mistaken names it felt like it was leading up to some final joke and didn't so I think I missed something there.
Huh. Never knew where the "no brown M&Ms" thing came from. Thanks for that lol
Quote of the year: "Open season, JERKSTAR!"
Nice Point 👍
