Girl, I knew you were right even before watching the video! I switched from vitamin c to niacinamide a couple months ago & had to let go of the idea that vitamin c is the savior that we all thought she was.
I love Vitamin C. I’ve never considered it for hyperpigmentation. My derm prescribed kojic acid mixed with hydroquinone for my hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C is just a extra boost to keep the skin glowing and it helps the sunscreen work better (this is coming from a black derm and black esthetician). I hate niacinamide. I’ve tried several brands and it just does nothing for me. Skin care is personal

Hi! I actually did not get the purging. I would recommend you use a good moisturizer before and after applying it (for the first few weeks or so). Some call it the sandwich method. Make sure to let your moisturizer dry down before applying the tretinoin on top. I would also recommend to wash your face the morning after you've applied it to make sure you get if off of you. Woooh Back with a Bang. Your 60 seconds cleansing rule changed my skin for the better. Thank you so much for the education. For the longest time I had this thought about Vit C being overhyped. It never really treated my hyperpigmentation as a woman of color . Looking forward to your weekly tips and advise on skincare.
I've been using niacinamide and retinol as the main active ingredients in my skincare (a bit of salycilic acid to exfoliate 2x a week) and in 10 weeks, my skin is more evenly toned. I had a hunch about vitamin C and now I feel validated ❤
Thank you for the breakdown! I used a vitamin C serum for a while and all I got was a little extra glow, no movement on the hyperpigmentation. My dermatologist has recommended azaleic acid for me right now as I am TTC and had to stop the retinoid I was using. She has also recommended niacinimide so I'm looking for a serum now. I'm excited to see the deep dives weekly!
I like the glow it gives me, so I try to find vitamin c that specifically has hyperpigmentation fighting ingredients in it, such as licorice root or Kojic acid. Azelaic acid was so drying on my skin. Both the OTC and prescription versions. I wish it worked on me!
I am so glad that you are talking about this topic!!! My skin hates vitamin c too!! I’ve always broken out when using it. It has never worked for fading my dark spots, and I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks it’s overhyped.
I love when you get all sciencey while explaining things! Glad to see you back! 😍 Would love to hear about the advice you give to us about how to test products at home. Like how long should we use something before we decide if our skin likes it or hates it? 🤔
My homemade lemon honey mask always clears up dark marks. No product has ever been better than that, except Ole Henriksen’s 3-step system, which why discontinued!!!!! 😢
@TamiaPeach Do you have a recipe for your homemade lemon honey mask? Also, what's your skin type? I have oily skin along with hyperpigmentation issues and pimple scarring that I'd like to clear up, but I like the idea of making something all-natural and fresh that hopefully won't cost an arm or leg! 😊
I'm so glad I found this channel and this video, I've used vitamin c for so long and I've always been annoyed by the price and the time it takes for my hyperpigmentation to fade (literally takes almost a year to see simple small spots fade). Ive been feeling the same way about vitamin C and some other things that the aesthetic industry make the holy grail for ALL skin colors when in reality it's only for those of the pale skin tones! We need more people like you sis to help us people of color navigate aesthetics!
I started using vitamin c in the morning along with sunscreen because apparently vitamin c boosts sunscreen protection but in terms of it being effective on my hyperpigmentation, I haven't really seen much of an improvement; so you might be on to something.
I've always had way more success fading hyperpigmentation with niacinamide than Vitamin C. There is a vit C serum that I really like, but the results were more along the lines of firmer skin and a nice glow. My dark marks never budged.
@@aisoaification Yes, that's what Nai was talking about from 3:50 when she mentions Vitamin C helps with elastin and collagen production. When there are a lot of these proteins, skin is firm yet bouncy like a well-filled balloon. When there are less of them, skin can start to look deflated.
thank you. I've used vitamin C and I was underwhelmed by the effects to my skin. When you hear other influencer they're like WOAH, nothing changed like this, YOU NEED IT. Nai! So happy you’re back, your advice helped me so much during Covid girl (also accutane) but now my skin is like butter cause I use a lot of the products you recommended then! With that being said I totally agree my skin is so reactive to vitamin c and currently I use one that has licorice root in it and that’s probably why my skin likes it 🤔. I appreciate your advice can you drop a video about what products you would recommend as alternatives for vitamin c? As a darker skin girlie I would be more inclined to try something new if the recommendation was from you. Much love ❤️
I was going to purchase Vitamin C serum but you have changed my mind. I saw a few years back on you teaching the 60 second rule, and now I see the whole world “discovering” it.. they are a day late and a dollar short! I trust you and have been following faithfully
My God you don't know how happy i I am coming across this video after my 4th repurchase of a $186 skinsceuticles Vit. C serum that I thought was absolutely essential to my anti-aging regimen. Please Please do some product recommendations! Thank you
I love my skinceuticals. I will say it has done my skin well but I do use Azelaic Acid, Niacinamide, Vitamin C during the day and Tretinoin at night. I also alternate chemical peels and microneedling in the fall/winter months.
Omg thank you!!! I’ve never liked using vitamin C in my skincare routine because of these very reasons. It’s never worked for me! Glad to see you back!! 🎉❤
I really appreciate this. I've also struggled to maintain vit C in my routine. It doesn't play well with copper peptides, which are a great skin smoothing product, nor with tretinoin. Plus the good ones have to be kept in the fridge, which is inconvenient for actually using. I think I'm going to lean into my Q10, which I already use nightly, and forget about the Vit C as an antioxidant. I already use other products for the other purposes you mentioned.
Azealic acid can be a pain to get in the USA without a prescription. However, there is an affordable option called "Ecological Formulas Strata Melazepam Emollient Cream"; it is in a white squeeze tube with a wine colored design. It is not cosmetically elegant, but rubbing some it together with your moisturizer / lotion between your hands helps with ease of application and dissolving the crystals.
At the very end you mentioned looking for a product with licorice root, azaliec acid , then you named several other ingredients to look for, I'm NEW here , could you recommend BRANDS please, it would be great to find one with ALL ingredients, maybe you should do your own BRAND😮❤❤❤❤
When it comes to my skin disagreeing with Vita-C products, I thought it was just me! I've tried just about every Vita-C product from luxury to accessible brands. However, most except two products have caused major skin irritation and breakouts. For me, Retin-A,/Retinols, glycolic, and lactic acid-based skincare works best for me! The only Vita-C products I can tolerate are Ciara's OAM Vitamin C Brightening Pads and Shea Moisture Brighter Days Ahead Oil Serum. For reference, my skin type is oily.
Beautystat’s vitamin C worked great for me and the doctor who created it is black (although he is light skin). My skin is like medium brown skin (lighter in the winter and darker in the sun) and my skin scars/gets hyperpigmentation easily
I am no nutritionist or dietian, but I have been told it's better to get vitamin c from food (veggies and fruits) than topical products. Not to mention that I really have not see any significant improvements with vitamin c. Niacinamide, retinol, consistent moisturizing, and sunscreen did a lot better for me.
Me dermatologist tried to get me to buy this expensive vitamin C and I was like, I’m good. Give me my tretinoin, azaleic and hydroquinone so I can go lol.
Sooooo proud of you Nai! And happy you are so vocal with your expertise in this industry, specially for US! Our skin and needs are just different and that’s okay. Thank you for this! And giving you your flowers now because babyyyyy that 60sec rule changed THE. GAME.
Good to know! I use a serum that has retinol, retinaldehyde, Q10, vit C in it in a. Airless pump! It is expensive though.....I guess it's working? I also use a lactic and mandelic acid to exfoliate. And a moistwith niacinamide. My sunscreen has vit C in it too. Tfs!
missed your videos! Welcome back. In 2020 I was watching your videos with a pen and notebook taking notes. LOL Here I am now wearing Korean sunscreen, retinol weekly, and completed my first microneedling procedure. Love your advice!
I agree with you. I’m an Esthetician and I have used so many formulations of Vitamin C. But being a coloured woman it actually breaks me out and then leads to more hyperpigmentation. There are lots of great options out there.
I think we have similar skin because anything with vitamin C breaks me out- i discovered this about 14 years ago so I stay away from it. Thank you you for the video and welcome back!❤
I once baught an expensive vitan c serum thinking it would magically make my acne hyperpigmentations disappear, it did absolutely nothing and it made my skin breakout it tiny little bumps, I never used it ever since .
I love Mandelic acid it’s very gentle on our skin , and I agree with you vitamin C can go unstable quick and they do sell that a lot with a dropper instead on a pump . I have a question what do you think about Retain A ?
Yup. I'm an esthetician too, and I agree with everything you said. I was always frustrated feeling like I could never get Vitamin C right, it always irritated me and I'm glad it's not me, it's just how Vitamin C is. I'm surprised you didn't suggest Alpha Arbutin too, although I understand that it turns into hydroquinone in the skin.
Thank you for this video! I haven't been too impressed with vitamin C. I have a very deep skintone and I felt that it made my face noticeably lighter, like I was bleaching my skin and I was very uncomfortable with that. I started using niacinamide and I feel like it targets my dark spots all the while keeping my true skintone. I'm also trying Azaleic acid. And of course retinol and SPF are a must!
Thank you for coming back with a banger ❤. I really needed this information coz im in search of products that can clear my acne spot 😢, almost went for vitamin C but i told my self to hold on coz the price is definitely not for me😂😂😂
I got to 2:39 and had to pause this video to go play Juvenile and throw sumn 🍑 right quick!😝 Okay, I’m back. I just wanted to say that, although I do still use some Vitamin C products, I don’t really put a lot of focus on that ingredient anymore & it’s because of you that I started being more intentional about including Niacinamide into my skincare regimen a few years back. And I’m glad I did. Vit. C didn’t seem to cause any issues for my skin, but it also didn’t really seem to help much with hyperpigmentation. A number of products in both my morning & night routines have Niacinamide in it. And I do believe it’s helped my skin. So thank you!! 🫶🏾💛🤎✨✨

One of my favorite derms on YT a white lady Dr Dre said this a few years ago. She also thinks it is more trouble than it is worth and she touts other antioxidants as well. I use CoQ10, resveratrol and yes a Vitamin C in the tube in am, lactic acid twice a week, tretinoin and azelaic acid the rest of the week, SPF 40 and my skin is just looking noicccce! At 47 I am having my best skin!
I only use it when am going to be out and about in the sun with sunscreen, or when i want a no make up look, i will use my Vit C serum. I also don’t use straight up Ascorbic acid, i use a derivative instead
This is just in time for me because I just decided recently to cut down on my VC application. I don’t think it’s necessary at all. Plus I get paranoid about lightening in areas I don’t want lightened! 😂 Thanks so much for this affirmation. Now niacinimide stays in my skincare routine all day.

So excited to see you back on YT! Thank you for your advice and tips. Missed you so so much.
Glad you're back!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
So happy you are back! Can’t wait to see your new content🙌🏾
Glad to see you backkkk!
Thank you you for the video and welcome back!❤
She’s backkkkkkk!!! ❤❤❤
happy to see you back!!!!!
I once baught an expensive vitan c serum thinking it would magically make my acne hyperpigmentations disappear, it did absolutely nothing and it made my skin breakout it tiny little bumps, I never used it ever since .
Been a subscriber for about 4 years, so glad to see you back on here! Definitely needed 🙌🏽✨
You know what, I was wondering the same thing, why no alpha arbutin????
I am so glad you are back!!!
Ok but what products should we use instead??? Ingredients are great to know but a product list will help more.
Exactly
right! We need recommendations!
So happy to see you back
OMGGGG!! Welcome back!
Thank you. As a fellow Esthetician the people swear I’m wrong when I tell them that Vitamin C is not needed for darker skin.
I really needed this information coz im in search of products that can clear my acne spot 😢, almost went for vitamin C but i told my self to hold on coz the price is definitely not for me😂😂😂
Wowww. Great video. And why have I missed your other videos unless you were on a hiatus. Awesome 👏🏾
Glad to see your back 😊. I’ve been using some of your tips for awhile and see a big difference
Loved the thoughtfulness behind your take on vitamin c ! I deff learned a lot
Btw You’re so beautiful! You remind me of Kesha Knight Pulliam - I kept thinking of the chingy one call away music video!
Omggggg hiieeee! So happy to see you again. You are RIGHT on time!
Hi Ny! Girl I might be late but I feel like you were gone for a while nice to have you back! And I’m so glade your saying it’s a waste for black girls!
omg you're back!
I miss you!!! Welcome back!!!
Glad ur back. I think about you often. I missed ur videos.
So glad I came across this video was just about to try it. I’m going along with what you are saying. Thank you 🙏
Yes spill tea!! 📝 also not me oil cleansing last night to get rid of one blackhead and it sure didn’t work 😅
Welcome back Nai, definitely missed your recommendations. Can you please recommend specific skincare products next. 💛
I missed you girlie!!
So happy to have you back! ❤
I swear the algorithm must reading my mind because I was just thinking I should add vitamin C to my routine. Thanks for the video😅
You gave some good skin care advice I miss ur Chanel 😢 I wish u posted more but totally understand you need a break !
Glad you are back 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have always felt this. 🎉
Me too
Skincare is wasting your time
Eat well
Drink water and all will be well
Spent so much on skin care in 2022 and I looked awful
Left my face for God in 2023
And I’m popping
I need it for hyperpigmentation 😢
Vit C is to preserve collagen,it was never about Hyperpignentation
