Lol you have a life I dream of having. I like being outside home. I love being in the air. I like being alone and also being surrounded by people. Hopefully I can get my PPL soon so I can start my journey to a flying lifestyle
Full marks for keeping fit and healthy Garrett. I'm a retired airline pilot in the UK who made it to 65 years in the profession. I'm in my 70s now and fitter than when I was 35 years when I was 3 stone overweight and generally a couch potato! I decided to change things and never looked back since. In fact the biggest benefit of exercise I believe is mental which is also an important element of fitness for pilots. One of the biggest motivations for me was realising that if I didn't do something I would be suffering health issues in my 60s and beyond, let alone being able to pass the pilot medical. I go running twice a week and have done a local half marathon for at least ten years. I also have a bicycle when I'm out on every day. Love your videos which bring back many memories of my flying days.
@@D4nielH It has had its ups and downs (no pun intended) but I wouldn't have changed any of it. I consider myself privileged to have lived through some of the best years of the profession.
Hi Garrett! I love the passion which you have for flying and your profession. I am a recently retired teacher of Spanish (46 years in the classroom). I lasted that long because I loved going to school each day and thrived on the ups and downs and the many challenges which I had to face and overcome daily to meet the needs of my students, most recently the COVID situation. May you never lose your passion! You are a great role model, not only for prospective members of the aviation industry, but for young people in general. You have worked very hard to accomplish your position in the aviation industry. Unfortunately many young people today want immediate gratification and are not willing to work hard and follow the steps necessary for long time success. Thank you for this very informative video. From Elaine the profe in NJ
I’m a flight attendant currently in flight school to make the big transition. I used to watch FA vlogs all day (they are everywhere l) I’m really enjoying your pilot blogs now there aren’t as many. Hope you continue! See you on the line Also thanks for the tidbit on staying fit, it can be exhausting after a trip but health is wealth and we gotta keep those medicals clear
Currently sitting around 400TT grinding my hours to 1500. Solid motivation to see these videos to keep getting out there and putting up hours daily. Format of these is solid. Don't change anything (except more Bella, I miss my dobie).

oh, and I think your vids are interesting. As for what else to see, well for those of us who live vicariously through pilots such as yourself, we can't get enough of even the most mundane aspects of pilot life.
I love early morning flights because i can book first class for a cheap rate and then change to the flight I actually want when AA sends me a storm advisory offering to waive change fees 👍 Otherwise I agree with the title.
Thanks for all the content! It has been extremely informative. Would you be able do a video on the bidding process and scheduling. I would really appreciate it!
Last 3 videos have been my favorite Garrett. Love the ins and outs of your daily flying. If you can ever do a walk around, would be cool to see or crew interaction.
Seek out a local flight school and go on a “discovery flight”. These are offered as a “dip your toe in the water” experiences to give flight a try and are not too expensive. It is also a great opportunity to sit with an instructor and get an honest outline of how to shape a future path to earning your pilot certificate to fly for yourself, or to start your journey to the airlines.
@@michaelfarlow9187 I'm a third-generation airline pilot (Delta) and my son never showed much interest. When he was 16 I set up a discovery flight for him and the first thing he said when he got down was "you get paid to do this." Flash forward, he now has a 4 year aviation degree and is flying for a regional airline that flows to American. It's definitely a lot of hard work, but anything worth doing is.
I love watching your vids they are so inspiring. I aspire to be an airline pilot and watching your stuff make me even more excited. I think if you did a tour in the cockpit that would be awesome.
Garrett, love your videos! One thing I've noticed is your transitions. Most are jump cuts, which is optimal for vlogs. When you put your palm to the camera as a transition, the next shot should come out of black or from your palm for the transition to flow seamlessly. Hope that helps your edits and keep pumping out these videos!
Can we have some more in depth-videos? I'm doing research on how to become a commercial, and eventually, and airline pilot. It would really really help! Thanks!

1ST time viewer..Great presentation. I have the upmost admiration for all FO's and Captains for being physically and mentally up for the job. THANK YOU
It's very interesting to hear about the physical that the pilots need to go through. It's good to exercise especially because of the long sitting periods you do when flying. Exercise and stretching helps with those hamstrings and hip flexors that shortens due to sitting long periods of time. Shortened hamstrings cause back pain for example. And with keeping that heart healthy. Thanks for the videos.
Hi. I really enjoying watching your video everytime. I'm also airline pilot at Japan. Its totaly different environment in our country comapre to US. I have a question for you that might benefit the kids at home as well. You just moved up to the majors from a regional. What’s your opinion of staying at the regional, is it a forced issue, or can you elect to stay indefinitely? A fellow Captain I know has a wife who I think probably flew with you at ORD, and she managed a dual career of aviation and motherhood because with her seniority, she can do nothing but turns. This guy is kind of a big talker, so I’d like your input. My oldest 3 of 7 are so fixated on having careers in aviation, and two of them are females. I’d like them to focus on the Air National Guard route and a good regional so they can have lots of grand babies for me to love on.
I have a few random questions about flying. 1. Do planes have a weight limit? For example if a plane’s weight limit is 100,000 lbs and the flight is fully booked with paying passengers but the weight of the cargo and passengers is over 100,000 lbs does the flight get canceled or do you take people off the flight and put them on a different plane? 2. Can a pilot fly any plane? Like if I’m on a southwest airplane and we land can the pilot that flew us on southwest get off and go through the airport to be the pilot on a us airline for the next flight? 3. If there is more weight in passengers on one side of the plane than the other does that make it unleveled and harder to fly for the pilots? 4. If there is a pilot and a first officer in training and the pilot has to use the bathroom leaving only the auto pilot on and the officer in training up front, what if auto pilot fails while you’re in the bathroom? Is the officer in training allowed to take over until you get back? What if they don’t know what to do? 5. When you are flying as a passenger on a plane to get to the airport where you will fly the plane next do you ever silently in your head judge the current pilot flying you? Like during turbulence or landing and take off do you ever think “oh the pilot did this wrong or he should have done this instead” etc? Also if something where to go wrong on that flight and everyone was told to remain seated would you be allowed to get up from your seat and try to help the other pilots flying you?
1) Planes do have a weight limit, the problem likely wouldn't occur during boarding (it would be figured out beforehand, everything is meticulously planned out). Lots of calculations are very conservative so actual weight would probably be less than anticipated, but if something were to happen then I assume they would put some passengers or luggage on a later flight. 2) Pilots have what is called a type rating. They have special training in certain types of planes, so a pilot flying a 737 couldn't fly an A320 or even a 747 for that matter, they are different planes with different systems. An exception however could be with different types of the same plane, such as the 737-800 vs the new 737 MAX were designed very similarly so that the airlines wouldn't have to pay for retraining, that was a big selling point. 3) Weight and balance is calculated and very important. If you're a frequent flyer, you might have had a flight attendant ask if some people can move around to better distribute weight and balance. This is even more important for cargo airlines, if the weight and balance isn't distributed properly it can indeed make the airplane difficult to fly or even unflyable. 4) Captains and First Officers are both fully qualified pilots that if one becomes incapacitated (or in your case is in the bathroom) can completely control and fly the aircraft in a safe manner. First Officers that are in training always have a more experienced pilot in the jumpseat ready to take over as an extra safety precaution. 5) You are required to listen to your flight attendants, they are there for your safety. Some pilots could choose to inform the crew should a problem arise and their knowledge might be helpful. The most famous case of this happening would be United Flight 232 where a United pilot riding as a passenger helped during an emergency.
What do you do after take off? Do you and the pilot talk? Might sound dumb but what is it like flying yin the cockpit and what do all those bells mean?
Loved the weather bit and how you navigate or circumnavigate etc Maybe it’s been asked already so apologies but I’d love to see what turbulence actually looks like on your screen. Obviously, with storms, I’d guess but I’ve heard the overhead announcements in clear air. Love to have some knowledge on that. Thanks
When do you usually wake up in the morning? How do you get yourself tired enough to fall asleep so early to have a good night sleep before a 3:30 wake up?

The 737's are my favorite narrow-bodies! Better than the Airbus's for passengers, in my opinion. Fly about once a month usually on the A320's and 737's. Always find your videos entertaining and interesting.
Except the 737 has one less lav. It compares to the A321 in passenger count yet only 2 lavs instead of 3. That 3rd lav in the middle of the plane makes all the difference for passenger comfort because everyone has to crowd in the back of the 737 waiting and waiting and waiting. 😩
