    Absolutely no shade to the other guys (all who im subscribed to) like fisherman's life, ace videos, or the big guy DeerMeatForDinner, but it's satisfying to see a catch and cook with an actual chef. From one cook to another, appreciate what you're doin bro...

      For some reason I dislike fisherman's life's content for some reason. My opinion is that there's a vibe of unauthencity to him but I can't describe it.

      I really think you’re wrong, watch him from the beginning. I think he’s very authentic, maybe his effort in trying to make higher quality content comes across as unauthentic, but I think he really is in it for the love of fishing. Came here from his channel, enjoy both. I feel soothed by the fishing channels but also love to cook....

    • @bantober
      @bantober 5 років тому +2

      copticsceptic it’s a different type this guy enjoys the art of cooking and it’s authentic his love for preparing and cooking on the other hand fisherman’s life is more his enjoyment of fishing and the challenge of catching fish also fisherman’s life isn’t a chef so your not watching for the cook part because it’s always the same but for him it’s the fish that does all the work the freshness of it.

    Man, the octopus is one of my totems and I appreciate how you explained the harvesting requirements and acknowledged how smart they are in the animal kingdom. I've eaten them before and it was something else! It's good to see another animal lover respect his kill. I hail from North Idaho and we have a completely different wild food landscape. I'm fascinated by the ocean and your knowledge of that majestic beast! Keep doin' what you do!

    Dude! Here's a tip I learned in Hawaii. Octopus HATE being poked with metal and will come out and attack your hand/try to get away. Bring a screwdriver with you and poke them with it hard while they are in their holes and they will come right out!

    • @OutdoorChefLife
      @OutdoorChefLife  6 років тому +26

      Yeah I’ve seen you use that technique in your videos. I’m just not sure if that’s technically legal in California since we’re only allowed to catch octopus by hand. But I’ll try it when I go to Hawaii! Love your Hawaii videos man!

  • @uuufooon2
    @uuufooon2 6 років тому +10

    I think the best way to kill the octopus is to flip the head of octopus inside out. It seems bad, but it's the fastest way. It can ceep a lot of water inside it and breath out of water for like 2 hours. When you flip it, it dies in a minute because there's no water so it runs out of oxygen. You can also stab it's head with a knife but there's a chance you miss the right spot and it won't kill it.
    The best way to tenderize the meat is to beat the octopus on some flat stone for like 5-10 minutes. I saw a lot of people in Greece and Croatia do it that way. It's faster than massaging it.
    Otherwise really cool video, keep it up.

    • @OutdoorChefLife
      @OutdoorChefLife  6 років тому +14

      That is faster and there are many ways to tenderize it but as sushi chefs, the most important thing is to respect our ingredients and massaging octopus is also a very traditional technique in sushi.

    • @uuufooon2
      @uuufooon2 6 років тому +1

      @@OutdoorChefLife Oh, I see. That's a good point. Maybe the texture of the meat is also different depending on how it's tenderized. I'll sure try it if I catch an octopus next time.

      Hand harvesting methods are usually fine. Similar to wave action during storms. Rocks move around naturally. If you know what you are doing you can move rocks around an make the tide pools even more productive. Rebuild the little caves an hiding spots.
