The wheel going around Nemesis is actually a reference to her mythology! A common symbol of Nemesis in ancient Greece was a wagon wheel with a wedge missing. (The persona's "head" actually makes the wedge!) This symbolizes that while revenge is a cycle that goes on and on, being weighed down by revenge actually makes it harder to move forward. I don't think I need to explain how this applies to Ken. I actually think it's a pretty good design myself, but to each their own
I quite like the design of Nemesis as well. I like to think that the smile on it's torso is supposed to represent the apparent glee that many people think they'll get when they get their revenge on someone only for them to be completely unsatisfied and/or regretful when they accomplish said revenge.
Personally I think persona designs should be like this, alien and behind layers of meaning. Being a bit mechanical and a bit out there is sorta what persona are about and I like that nemesis is a bit unsettling
@@ConcernedAboutCrows I totally agree She's unsettling because Ken's behavior and goals are unsettling especially since he's a child The layers of interpretation are amazing☺
Exactly! I feel like Nemesis is one of the best personas of the cast exactly because of all the interpretations and creative liberties they got to represent it! Justice for Nemesis! Why I like Nemesis? -The wheel IS a buzzsaw. Whenever Ken does a physical skill (of which, Ken primarily uses physical skills with the down bonus damage) Nemesis does assault the opponent with her buzzsaw. It's a fun design choice that makes the animations a little more fun (and makes Kala-Nemi feel like a downgrade). -The robot design jives with me. The robot design with the dumb chest face shows that Ken isn't quite as mature as he's letting himself on to be. Combine that with the buzzsaw and you have a design the looks overly eager to do the whole goddess of punishment thing (which again can come back to Ken). -Something about having a faceless head with the chest face just appeals to me as someone who enjoys unsettling designs.
The buzzsaw is also a nice bit of symbolism. It makes Nemesis look more inhuman than the other initial personas, and makes it look like something that could not function "normally" the way other humanoid personas like Castor or Hermes could. It does a good job of depicting the destructiveness of Ken's suicidal quest for revenge in that first half of the game.
Nemesis' buzzsaw could also reflect the symbolism of karma, even though that's more for The Wheel Of Fortune, it's still prevalent in Justice. The reason its a buzzsaw of all things is to represent his journey of revenge, which is what the Reversed Justice Arcana usually depicts
I like Odin a lot because: - He's emaciated, which reflects Odin's character. Odin isn't a badass viking warrior, he's a conniving wizard who needed to undergo self torture and physical trials before he could learn all the ruins. It also kind of reminds me of Jesus. - His robe and nudity kind of makes him look like Greek statute which contrasts with the rest of his get up and makes it look like he has chad confidence. - His one eye, self-explanatory. - His spear is cool and again reminds me of Jesus (Lance of Longinus). - His viking helmet is awesome and way cooler than thor's. - His raven is cool and appropriate.
he's just so minimalist that it looks out of place besides the other high tier personas/demons. like you see satan, beelzebub, norn, lucifer, and then odin. he could have a huge sage beard, or a cooler robe with runes, or a thinking pose, or anything at all.
alexander martinez Odin’s whole thing is that he’s minimalist though. In mythology he looks like Gandalf, just an old man with a robe and a hat. Mega-Ten is in fact playing it up massively lol.
the spear is Gungnir, the robe is to be expected, the purple skin and nudity is... well, that's probably Freya's department. The horned helmet is actually the most out of place element in his design, as his traditional description when he deigns to walk among mortals is that he wears a straw wide-brimmed hat
@@ChibiKami he is not really walking among mortals in the game though he is in fights and at war technically. He does have gold armor and his spear of course
The Diana one gets worse. Her Greek counterpart Artemis debuted way back in Megami Tensei II and, despite having a different design, is still based off that same fountain. More loyally too, since all of those melons are gathered on her chest.
Yeah as someone who haven't watched or played dbz or smt I thought it looked like the Dragon ball artist made it. If you showed people who don't know a collection of dbz characters with Odin in there or something and asked which one doesn't belong in Dragon ball I think he would successfully blend in and avoid a pattern of being singled out as the fake.
The Odin design is actually pretty brilliant in its simplicity because it captures how Odin will often disguise himself as an ordinary person to go out into the world and toy with people in games of wisdom. Yeah he’s super strong, but he values himself more as a thinker than a fighter
I hate those edgy extra detailed designs with zero to none actual reference to source material, but for some reason I really like Sanat design. And I don't see anything wrong with Ancient of Days. In fact, I have it on my top 10 Megaten demons of all time.

I always thought Nemesis was supposed to represent Ken's need to act like an adult with the buzzsaw surrounding the almost childlike face in the middle.
Aww I love the Mitama’s their design is so simple and charming imo I don’t think it’s lazy I think it’s a cool motif. Plus they were all super useful and various different points in my P3 FES and P4G playthroughs.
I'd honestly love to see some western tall tale figures to turn into demons, or more indigenous/native/Aztec stuff Conspiracy demons like chemtrail was cool and I'd like to see more of that somehow
I would like aliens like greys, the flatwoods monster and the hopkinsville goblins. I would also like more cryptids like ogopogo or bigfoot, as well as more urban legends like the mad gasser, perhaps Bloody Mary.
I think some more American Folk lore/mythologies would be really cool. Some that come to mind would be, Paul Bunyan and Headless Horseman. Big foot is an obvious but it’s only appearance was in SMT 1 so a comeback is so needed. We already have Mothman so I think more would be great.
The Mitama actually combine a few different mythological influences. The "classical" elements of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire are the colours Yellow, Blue, Black and Red. The faces relate to the "four humours" theory of psychology: Black bile, yellow bile, sanguine, and phlegmatic. Each humour is attached to a personality trait, and you gotta keep 'em in a certain amount of balance or you get Problems. That's where the faces come in.
Bael: I agree with that, this design was a downgrade. Lucifer (SMT4): Yeah, I usually think Handsome Squidward whenever I see this design, I think the 2nd Phase design's better. Demeter: This design choice is more humorous to me than it should be. (Just something hilarious about seeing Zeus getting a badass design, then in the same game you get Demeter as a child.) Sanat: Someone sat down, drew this guy, and never stopped. (I do think it's cool looking, but I do agree that it's overkill.) Pisaca: You poor soul. (I actually like Pisaca if mostly for the design, because it looks cool to me.) The Recolors: A shame that they didn't do a little more than just a palette swap (But hey, extra powerful demons) (A shame that they're DLC.) The Mitamas: Eh, can't win them all I suppose (In Persona, these guys aren't so bad gameplay-wise. And that's why I like them.) Nemesis: Ah yes, the Buzzsaw (I do like Nemesis for being rather blunt: Buzzsaw Robot.) Odin: I like both designs, though I do like the first design if mostly because the old look is basic and nothing too complex. (Not to knock down SMT4's Odin, that one's badass, and it makes up for it being a different design.) Diana: They did her dirty with this design. That is all. So yeah, I don't mind simplicity in my designs, but I don't mind having details in character design. As for least favorite SMT monster? Obariyon. Annoying little gremlin.
Also Bael's original appearance in MT II as a high-level boss was profoundly epic looking. He's in the center of page 49, looking all metal as ****! megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Bael?file=Demons_of_MTII.jpg
@ً But for Demeter, one of her domains being fertility,it doesn't make sense for her to be portrayed in this way. Like, if this was Artemis the goddess of virginity, moon, and the hunt her being a child would fit. Demeter being portrayed as child like doesn't fit with her legend nor character.
@ً I know that loli=/= child, but Demeter's design to me looks less an adult woman who happens to be very short and/or petite and more like an actual child. I don't see any kind of womanly curves on her design anywhere(that would indicate the more motherly and fertility aspect of her character.) so to me it looks way more childish than it should. So I'm sorry, but Demeters character design doesn't work on any level for me,even accounting for the loli=/= child angle.
So, I guess I'll have to be the one to defend Sanat, eh? Well, so, I do agree that his desing is way too much, but that's really the point. In SMT IV he's *supposed* to be the embodiment of Chaos, which is exactly how he's portrayed: there's no symmetry at all in every part of his body, no harmony, and no consensus on what he's supposed to look like; just like the Ancient of Days is supposed to be the embodiment of order.
Exactly! I was wondering if anyone else was thinking this, especially cause AoD is like almost entirely symmetrical, so when you put them side by side the art direction makes so much more sense
Meh it still sucks My favorite thing about sanat is that he is forever a 16 year old age wise That also implies that he looks like a human otherwise there would be no way to know This design not only does it not look like what senat should look but also contradics his lore and worse of all He looks... Old All these skinny long arms and and face makes him look like an old monk with just shouldnt be the case at all The design would have been better if this was a fase he could reach during battle instead of just being how he looks like
I think it works out because for all extents and purposes Demeter is one of the less twisted law aligned demons. And it's pretty hard to watch what happens to her since she was just loyal to law's ideals and still looks like a child.
Reminder that Demeter was not Doi's idea and it was the higher-ups at Atlus that wanted a little girl. Doi isn't perfect by any means, but acording to interviews he didn't like the Demeter they went with and just had to deal with it.
Honestly her desing isnt bad but i can see why people dont like it. Maybe because it changes too much yet too little at the same time from what people imagine as "goddess of fertility etc."
"Odin is just doing the bare minimum" And you're correct. It's just Kaneko slapping every single description of Odin in Prose Edda (Cloak and Golden Helmet) on a purple mannequin.
In fairness to Diana, she is also the goddess of motherhood, so it's sort of similar for what they did for Innana. It's still not really GOOD but it does make some sense.
Wait that doesn't make sense. Diana is the Roman counterpart to Artemis. Artemis is one of the 3 virgin goddesses in greek mythology. Wouldn't motherhood fall Juno's domain?
@@dustinvance243 She is more specifically the goddess of childbirth, which is also true of Artemis. In Greek mythology, in some stories, Artemis was born first and helped in the childbirth of Apollo. If I had to guess, the association likely comes from her association to virginity, since children are virgin. You would think it would be Hera, but also Hera really likes killing children (specifically Zeus' children, she tries very hard to kill Zeus' children with any woman that isnt her).
I do admittedly have a bit of a soft-spot for SMT 4's Lucifer design, more specifically the one in Apocalypse. Along with the emphasis on black instead of purple leading to a more striking appearance he has a really fun pose and expression that gives him a unique look. I'm not sure if I prefer it over his standard designs but it at least feels fitting for the Lord of Chaos.
in the #6 i think this is what he was talking about "95853" (this is a code for a website, don't ask me on how to use it, but for those who know how to use it well..... good for you)
Odin is described as having a blue cloak, wide brimmed hat, a full beard and his spear, Gungnir his spear in hand. I'm not sure how the clean-shaven, purple skin or cape and whitey tighties got into SMT.
There's some visual depictions of Odin that depict him as almost nude. And I believe he's referenced as being almost nude in some old Norse folklore takes too. As for him having purple skin I think that's just there to differentiate himself from regular people.
@@ils4844 In Japanese monster-collection stuff, purple skin is shorthand for full-body frostbite, especially on supernatural beings who ostensibly can continue to exist in such a state.
I actually like the Demeter desing for the exact reason that the designer says. Kids then to be innocent and pure, you don't suppose to distrust someone who looks like her.
"It looks like one of those crazy things that drunk people do videos" we need to start following those crazy drunks if they are somehow locating giant toads to ride
4:30 what bs, he should have said " i just wanted to draw some lolis" i'd be ok with that, i stopped questioning the japanese a long time ago, like just don't lie to my face
I kinda like the SMT4's Lucifer because he looks to me like what a fallen Angel would look like. Humanoid...but not quite enough to be human, the left arm with what I presume the remains of your friend forming in there, and it just...kinda works for me. Yeah the older design is much better but to me I think the design kinda fits, but yeah him on the throne does look pretty baller, after all thrones are awesome Also I agree bout the palate swap DLC, I don't mind DLC demons but god damn Also how I would fit the Mitamas I'd have a maniquin like creature holding a mask with the different expression. I feel it would go with the theme it isn't meant for battle but fusion but give it a more original spin on their gimmick of souls
SMT IV Lucifer would be completely fine if he had a different outfit. But the gold matador really ruins everything. Makes him look like Michael Jackson or David Bowie or something. Completely wrong vibe.
I disagree with Nemesis tbh, I really liked the design, mostly because my brain sees a big buzz saw and makes funny chemicals, I was kinda sad to see it turn into Kala-Nemi
Polydeuces is hands down still my least favorite Persona design from all Persona games. I love the symbolism and the relationship with Castor, but my God it is ugly!!!!! There's no need for him to have buff body with Invader Zim arms and legs!!!!
I honestly like both designs for Odin. The first one I feel is a minimalist design at its finest. The fact that he just looks so simple and yet so intimidating screams confidence to me. His SMT4 design is also pretty badass, and gives him a majestic, graceful, yet vindictive vibe.
I find it pretty interesting that Odin's weakness is fire, and Surt has fire skills, because in norse mithology, Surt is destined to kill Odin during the Ragnarok =V
The reason I don’t like pisaca is because it was 1 am in the morning, I just saw okumura’s death, and then I saw this in the velvet room. It freaked me the fuck out and I was already edge because of a random amber alert. I was literally just like nope I sleep now no more of this shit
thanks, nyarly, that pisaca thing now ghosts around twitter. and even tho, i really like Odins design, BECAUSE its kinda minimalistic, but in the best way possible, it IS quite underwhelming if we consider how important of a god he is.
I like Nemesis. I think that it's honestly pretty cool. Plus I think that catatonic stare and just lack of liveliness in movement or expression it has is almost like how Ken can't move past his plot for revenge in the game.
4:37 Just like Dagda from SMT IV Apocalypse. A character was conceived first, and a demon’s name was slapped on it, completely wasting a perfectly good demon.

Now the only natural step would be "What mythological/folkore beings would you like to see to become Megaten demons" I guess?
I'd honestly love to see some western tall tale figures to turn into demons, or more indigenous/native/Aztec stuff
Conspiracy demons like chemtrail was cool and I'd like to see more of that somehow
I would like aliens like greys, the flatwoods monster and the hopkinsville goblins. I would also like more cryptids like ogopogo or bigfoot, as well as more urban legends like the mad gasser, perhaps Bloody Mary.
I'd love some from Philippine folklore
I think some more American Folk lore/mythologies would be really cool. Some that come to mind would be, Paul Bunyan and Headless Horseman. Big foot is an obvious but it’s only appearance was in SMT 1 so a comeback is so needed. We already have Mothman so I think more would be great.
Christian Alonzo I’d love to see some of the fearsome critters from lumberjack folklore

3 years late, but why did you read that?!
(Now im gonna fall into the abyss myself)
The artists responsible fir Sanat's design must've been like "if you add *some* faces here and there it would look awesome"
You know what this design needs? More face.
It looks like something straight out of a Yu-Gi-Oh card
@@Yugi477 Lord of the Heavenly Prison be like
The Mitama actually combine a few different mythological influences.
(Just something hilarious about seeing Zeus getting a badass design, then in the same game you get Demeter as a child.)
Sanat: Someone sat down, drew this guy, and never stopped. (I do think it's cool looking, but I do agree that it's overkill.)
Pisaca: You poor soul. (I actually like Pisaca if mostly for the design, because it looks cool to me.)
The Recolors: A shame that they didn't do a little more than just a palette swap (But hey, extra powerful demons) (A shame that they're DLC.)
The Mitamas: Eh, can't win them all I suppose (In Persona, these guys aren't so bad gameplay-wise. And that's why I like them.)
Nemesis: Ah yes, the Buzzsaw (I do like Nemesis for being rather blunt: Buzzsaw Robot.)
Odin: I like both designs, though I do like the first design if mostly because the old look is basic and nothing too complex. (Not to knock down SMT4's Odin, that one's badass, and it makes up for it being a different design.)
Diana: They did her dirty with this design.
@ً Yeah, that is very true, there is always a possibility that there's a teen/adult with child like appearances.
@@toryficarola Aw, this looks pretty sweet, Atlus should bring back these designs one day.
Meh it still sucks
My favorite thing about sanat is that he is forever a 16 year old age wise
That also implies that he looks like a human otherwise there would be no way to know
This design not only does it not look like what senat should look but also contradics his lore and worse of all
He looks... Old
All these skinny long arms and and face makes him look like an old monk with just shouldnt be the case at all
The design would have been better if this was a fase he could reach during battle instead of just being how he looks like

If demeter was a more serious demon i would not trust her, i think that his crappy design help that you would give her the fruits in smt sj
I love most of it. Just make her an adult and it would be great.
Honestly her desing isnt bad but i can see why people dont like it. Maybe because it changes too much yet too little at the same time from what people imagine as "goddess of fertility etc."

"Odin is just doing the bare minimum"
And you're correct.
"What happened to Atlus games? They're all about the dating sim and relationship aspect now."
*sees Diana's design.*

Not gonna lie, I love the simple design of purple Odin. I think he looks cool

Lucifer in SMT IV it's what happens if you fuse an alien with An outfit that a JoJo character would wear
Demeter looks like she lost her parents in the store and started to wander off
I kinda like the SMT4's Lucifer because he looks to me like what a fallen Angel would look like. Humanoid...but not quite enough to be human, the left arm with what I presume the remains of your friend forming in there, and it just...kinda works for me. Yeah the older design is much better but to me I think the design kinda fits, but yeah him on the throne does look pretty baller, after all thrones are awesome
Also I agree bout the palate swap DLC, I don't mind DLC demons but god damn
Also how I would fit the Mitamas
I'd have a maniquin like creature holding a mask with the different expression.

SMTIVs Lucifer still creeps me out. I don't know what it is, but he just scares the shit out of me. So glad Doi fixed him for Apocalypse

I like Nemesis. I think that it's honestly pretty cool. Plus I think that catatonic stare and just lack of liveliness in movement or expression it has is almost like how Ken can't move past his plot for revenge in the game.
