I've been getting a lot of similar questions so I have created a Q/A. Just keep scrolling down and you may find some answers about watercolor PAPERS, pigments, taping down etc 😃👇🏼
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
All annotations on colors and brushes are in the video.
The white pigment I use is DESIGNER'S PERMANENT WHITE GOUACHE, which is an opaque version of watercolor. I use it instead of my regular watercolor whites which are too transparent for my style of painting.

Most common questions I get and here are some answers:
▶︎What's the difference between cold pressed and hot pressed?
Cold pressed is on the rougher side and hot pressed is the smoothest. For example with hot pressed the paint won't sink in as much and will dry faster, vs cold pressed is the most traditional watercolor paper for artists, the paint will sit for a while until it settles and you can do dry brushing. It also dries longer because of all that. They are both fun, I just have been painting mostly on hot pressed because of my style. Hot pressed is good when you can paint faster and when you use a lot of paint. To determine which paper is best for you I think it's a good idea to try out all three kinds, hot pressed, cold pressed and the third kind - rough watercolor paper, this one is super bumpy!
▶︎How long does it take me to finish a painting?
Anytime between 40min - 3hrs. It all depends on what I am painting.
▶︎Do I use watercolor in pan or out of tube?
I mostly use watercolors out of tubes.
I think it helps me in painting with layers. I feel like it's so much easier to create that vibrancy when I can use more paint.
▶︎What are the basic colors I would recommend for a beginner?
black, indigo, thalo blue (phthalo), cobalt blue, viridian hue, turquoise, burnt umber, raw umber, burnt sienna, orange cadmium Hue, cadmium yellow Hue, cadmium yellow Hue pale, yellow ochre, sap green, Permanent yellow green, purple lake, mauve, red madder Hue, deep red, brilliant red, quinacridone red (Thalo crimson),
white - designers gouache permanent white
▶︎What basic brushes I would recommend for a beginner?
Round: 0, 2, 4, 6, Angular: 1/2, 3/4,
Fan: 2
▶︎What is art masking fluid?
It's a fluid (also known as liquid frisket ) that preserves white areas, white areas of the paper where you want to stay white. It's made of some sort of latex. Once you place it on your watercolor paper, on the area you want to stay white, wait until it completely dries before starting to paint. At the end, once your paper is dry, you can peel it off easily with your fingers or using an eraser.

Thanks Maria , yes I have been binge watching them since we last spoke, even the music is very soothing when I don't sleep much. I some how have missed the otters though, I don't leave comments on them all as I dont want you to think I'm a crazy stalker haha.. Kim xx
Thank you Kim :) just so you know I would have taken any lovely and such positive comments for stalking. It's the opposite. I love seeing the same people here, it makes it feel like we are building our own community here in UA-cam. You guys give me joy and motivation to upload more :) xx
That's great. Thank you. I just left you an email Maria as I found someone playing your beautiful art on his channel an it wasn't credited to you so I forwarded the details in case you hadn't seen it. It really saddens me when talent is not credited for. Thank you for your kind replies. kim xx

wonderful
Thank you Zahoor :)
its really difficult to paint on a very small size of paper and to maintain artistic proficiency. u did an excellent job. jizakAllah :):)
Hi Maryam :) thank you darling, you are right.. it's harder to paint on a small piece of paper, my preference is always anything bigger than 5X7 :) I'm working on a different setup for my camera so I can actually do videos with 13X19 :)) xx
Maria lots of love for u. :*
:-) xoxo
Love this!!!
Thank you 😊
so beautiful!!😊
Thank you Meenu 🤗🌹😃
I'm so in love!!
Thank you Kim :) xx
Very cute. Do you find some pigments actually push others away so they don’t mingle as well as others?
Hi Marilyn, when I paint often want some pigments to push the other ones away :) it's part of watercoloring to me.. adding one pigment then adding another one and let them mingle :)
10th like
Thank you Simran :)
My set of Winsor and Newton does not have turquoise -- what paint brand are you using?
Great tutorial
hi Josie, I paint with Holbein watercolors in tubes🌹
aw
Ester xx
Do you think you will add this one to your Patreon group? Would love a real time :)
Hi Mia, yes I can definitely add this one because it's a shorter video. I just need to find it in my older hard drives! Thank you.
Have you ever painted a catleya Orchid?
Hi Trudy :) I have another orchid video that I haven't published yet! It's a purple orchid, wish I could show you a picture of it. I think it's Catleya Orchid.
Maria Raczynska I am sure it is lovely, the white is on of my watercolors. I enjoy your work and use it for my grandchildren. ty💖
Thank you so much Trudy :) I am very happy to know you like my videos :) xx
I have gone back to using hot press thanks to your videos💖 I forgot how fun & rewarding it is.
awww that's awesome 😘💕Happy to hear that! Believe me I love cold pressed and rough but hot pressed seems more magical 😄
White lily lol
:)
I can't even draw a seahorse lmao
Ari, have you thought about tracing paper? You could then trace a shape of a seahorse onto a watercolor paper
Maria Raczynska But for a watercolor painting I need a thick paper, right? So how could I use that traicing paper?
Hi Ari, i was thinking of a traditional black tracing paper where you would trace the shape from a picture then tracing it with pencil onto a watercolor paper, I've never done it myself but have seen people talking about it. But yes watercolor paper is thick but it doesn't matter because you are tracing from a blank tracing paper that will leave an ink on your watercolor paper. You just have to do it light so the trace looks like a pencil sketch :) does it make any sense?
Maria Raczynska Omg I got what you're saying. I was thinking on another kind of traicing paper. We call it indigo paper 😉 Btw... thank you so much you're awesome!!!
Your welcome Ari. I actually have never heard of indigo paper, I thought it was just a black tracing paper lol cuz I remember using it yearsssssss ago 😂 Then I thought of some special art tracing papers.. there may be something new on the market. Need to do more research 😂 Xx
