I love this painting! When I go to the Aquarium I have to go see the seahorses! They are amazing little creatures . I once got to see the father giving birth. Those little guys grab on to a blade of grass and hang on. Such wonders of the sea. You have captured their fluttering back "wings" perfectly! @@mariamorjane Yes, the mother transfers the eggs to the father and the father keeps them in his pouch until they are born. The mother leaves the scene after the transfer and does her own thing so to speak. Sometimes I think they have the right idea.....LOL! 😁😁😁😁

Hi Jac🤗🌷thank you so much!! The schmincke watercolors are good quality but it depends what I paint. They work well with botanicals and paintings like this seahorse. When I try to do large background paintings, for example painting my water scenes the paint dries into hard edges very fast and it's hard to get rid of these hard edges.. sometimes almost impossible. Then you get a lot of those "wooshy" effects, paint just despairs super fast.. and it's hard to control it when painting wet on wet. For the paper, Stonehenge aqua is pretty good but it's super easy to lift it up, so again it depends on what I paint☺️🌸flowers - it seems great for botanicals.. or paintings like this seahorse where lifting up was needed. For my typical layered paintings, not so much because it lifts up too fast/too easily. Both products are good quality but for most of my paintings, I prefer Arches and Holbein🤗
Hi Maria, I just love this painting; beautiful! I used to paint a little bit...about 30 years ago :O. I am wanting to take it up again and have decided i'd like to try to emulate your painting as my first try, i love it so much. The difficulty is I have already purchased some Winsor & Newton watercolours. I am wondering whether these colours would be similar to any of the Winsor & Newton ones? Things are difficult financially as I am now disabled, so if i could use some of the colours I have, instead of purchasing all the ones you use it would help me a lot. I am too inexperienced to know how to work this out. Colours can look similar online but then look very different in real life. I wondered if I could go by the PB number of the colours, but I am not sure this would work. If you could give me any advice on this I would be so grateful. Many thanks
Hi Yvonne🌸🤗 I used to paint with Winsor and Newton and you definitely do not need to buy the same paints I have to follow my tutorials, with this seahorse for example you can use Turquoise and Viridian or Viridian Hue then Yellow Ochre, to darken up some of the areas maybe Indigo. Also if you go to maria-raczynska.teachable.com there's a FREE class to enroll:FREE watercolor tips. There's a comparison chart: Winsor and Newton vs Holbein pigments, I hope this helps🤗🌹
