If I'm just replacing my timing chain and gears should I replace the spacer as well or dont bother? Do I have to pull the whole cam out to get to it? Also is there a link I can buy your timing chain? Thanks
So I have a 312 block that is dated January 7th, 1957… and has a stock cam (.385 lift with the stock 312 rockers, 1.54). But it has that larger cam weight/spacer… is this just early before they changed it? If/when I replace the cam with larger lift cam, can I reuse that weight?
It will work just fine. The weight is for to offset the fuel pump eccentric. Ford realized later that because the cam spins at half speed that balancing the cam had little to no affect. We use them when we have them, and use the later part when we have it.
On the camshaft to cam timing gear spacer that spaces the clearance for the thrust plate, why not have the cam manufacturered to eliminate the need for the spacer since it is no longer available...... problem solved

Does the counter weight make a difference to the balance that is measureable?
