I replaced the regulator on our 02 suburban and 04 duramax. Hardest part was cleaning the dump truck load of dirt and crap out of the doors. Nice job! And you have a lovely assistant.
You can easily hear that the window still slows down considerably near the top of its range. The first thing to do with a slow or struggling power window is to first clean and then lubricate the rubber gasket window seal all the way around with silicone spray. It can make a major difference. If you had tried that first, you might not have even needed to replace the regulator and saved yourself some money. You can do it to all of your windows as preventative maintenance.
@joannaquanttumphysicsI never heard of or encountered a window gasket seal actually melting, to me it sounds like the gasket seal will need to be replaced. Sorry I can't help more than that
Hi guys, wonder if anyone might be able to help. My Roadster mk 1 driver's window has been slightly erratic for about 9 months but always corrected itself. After a serious cold day it appears to have had enough. It goes down but only up by 1/4 - I've tried all the 'tricks' but no go. Just changed the window motor and still the same. I'll watch the vid when I get back home but does it sound like a regulator issue (as the window does go up partly..??)
Was going to say the same thing. Also add, before you spray get a nylon brush or tooth brush and scrub the felt lined tracks to get debris out of the channel. Then silicone spray.
Great video! I just did this job on an 02 Tahoe on the same door as yours on the Tahoe the door is a little smaller. Just one word of caution is to make sure the cables are between the regulator beam and the inside panel of the door. The first time I installed I had the cables between the regulator frame and the outside panel of the door. When I would put the window down it would put quite a bit of tension on the cables. It was agony changing it out being it was about 100 in the shade at the time! The black tape was sticking to everything Lol😂. Always enjoy your videos!
Great video!! I had the exact problem with my 2004 Silverado 1500. About the simplest (and surprisingly inexpensive) fix I’ve ever done. Your tutorials are my ‘go to” when working on my truck. Keep up the good work. Thanks!!
Spary silicone spray in the window tracks about once a year from brand new, and don't hold your button down once the window stops and you won't have a problem.
❤ Love this. I have to help fix someone's 2002 Tahoe, and today my 2003 Suburban rear passenger window just got stuck rolling it back up... stuck halfway down. 😁 Video saved, and gonna refer to it as I work on the part change.
Jimmy. Clean the window tracks then lube the tracks with silicone spray. Your new regulator will work much quicker and the window will slide much more easily too.
I had a regulator go out in Mexico, but it was apparently the cable that time. SEVERAL years later, the motor appears to be the problem, so I bought a new regulator with a motor and will replace it. Not that long ago I repaired the driver's window mechanism and that only took an hour to install and worked perfectly. My Suburban has 320K miles on it and has no issues except some things get old and proper maintenance is important!!!!
On the back doors of my Jeep Cherokee, I used some 1/2” pvc pipe to hold up window. Used some tie wraps to hold things in place. It’s old and I don’t care about back doors.
If the motor is seized you can cut the threaded wires that move the window up and down to manually move the window. Also i saw some people mention silicon spray on the window glass track thats a good tip but don't forget to look down that track and make sure the rubber seal that rides on the glass is not rolled over on itself doubling up the rubber on the glass if that makes any sense.
Good video Jimmy. Everyone with a more than 10 year old vehicle has at least one window acting up. Usually it's the driver's window. Once a year when I lube my truck, I use silicone spray in the window tracks. Sometimes it will even fix the sticking problem you had.
Same issue on my 2002 Suburban - same door and everything. Not sure I’ll take the time to fix it though as the body is starting to look pretty bad and the window does work most of the time
Why do all these "window stuck down" videos start with the window all the way up, and no demonstration on how to get the window up before the regulator replacement?
I learn something each time I watch your videos. I had no idea how the window was attached to the regulator. I didn't know that you could cut the black adhesive on the Weather film. Wish I'd known that years ago. I didn't know you could buy the motor and regulator together. I've replaced at least a dozen power window motors in my and other people's cars. All with a messy drill out a rivet procedure. Once again, thanks so much Jimmy
My 2003 Suburban does the exact same thing. I also noticed the cold issue. Btw.. I hope you already replaced your brake lines... I live in Iowa. They rusted away. VERY common on these years
I had a metal piece that fell out the top of the door and have no idea where it goes is there anyway I can send u a photo of it and maybe you'll have an idea
I remember when both the rear regulators went out on my crew cab Silverado. I remember before I was able to fix them, I had to hold the window up with duct tape.
I wish I had a boyfriend that knows how to do all this. It’s all getting to be so expensive I miss the olden days growing up when we had manual windows lol
Loving you content man! One question i have a Vito W638. 200.000 miles the transmission fluid was never changed. I would like to update it now. Am i good to go when i change the fluid step by step now? Like 1 liter every 10.000 miles?
I hear it bogging down near same spot. Need to lube it well as your are going to have same issue in couple years. You may have a upper frame slightly out on the door. To test shut door, if bogging then space the top of door slightly out. Use cardboard to do this. If it clears up you need to have body shop take a look.
All 4 of my windows regulators are broken and I can’t find any that are cheaper than $200 for a 2016 Kia Optima 😞 mechanic said this is a common problem with my make and model but they haven’t recalled it
When the regulator binds up too much, the plastic pulleys will break. I had one regulator break, and window would not stay up. Replaced both motor and regulator on both rear doors on my Tahoe.
So curious to see what went wrong with the regulator. Maybe just needed lube on the moving parts or wiring connection isn't fully engaged (green corrosion) causing too much resistance therefore not sending full current to the motor.
Hey I WAS WONDERING IF YOU CAN PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO EXPLAINING EVERYTHING ABOUT WHEN TO USE TOW HAUL AND HOW TO USE ON SUBURBANS? I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND A VIDEO ON IT BUT THERE ARE NONE! PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. THANKS GOD BLESS🙏🏼 LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
My problem is my passenger window will not go up at all but the switch on the driver side lets it roll up just fine and completely smoothly. Any suggestios?
I noticed in this video that's your rear window is capable of opening completely. I have a 2005 Tahoe and the windows stop about 8 or 9 in shy of the bottom. I wonder if there is a removable stop on the window regulator?
The Tahoe back door has a cutout for the wheel well so the window cant go down completely. Since the Suburban is longer, the wheelwell is farther back behind the door. This allows the door to be square and the glass can go all the way down inside the door
I have an 03 Chevy Tahoe. I just got it 3 months ago. [3/24] My passenger side rear window sometimes goes down on its own. Rear Drivers Side window only goes down 2 - 4 inches. Also there's a big malfunction in the Drivers Door 8-Button Master Switch. Drivers window works OK, Up/Down, but the Front Passenger side window works about 1/10th of the time. I have to use the Passenger switch. I will R&R the 8-Button Switch first, then see where that gets me.
On my 2006 chevrolet silverado both my back windows was acting up and I found a place A-1 auto online and got 2 new motors and tracks for 100 and shipped to me under a week
I just put tow mirrors on my truck and they don't have the wire to plug in and now my windows won't roll up I don't know if the mirrors need to be plugged in in order for my windows roll up or not
Thanks, surprisingly interesting.....though actually I have a 🐫GMC 2007 Canyon with Manuels, *& 2015 DODGE Journey & Windows work perfect ( so far).....! Good job,
You sure did gloss over the hardest part. The "shimmeying ans patience" part of removing and reinstalling the part. Why not record all of that and then time lapse/fast forward thru it? At least then we would be able to slow it down and see how it's done. All the window button/locking button assemblies on all the doors of my 95 Yukon have become brittle and break easily whenever I work on the doors. But yes,, the front passenger window is doing what yours is doing. Thanks for this video.
It’s that rainy day for me when it went out 😂

Haha! 🙏
You have a lot of great skills. I hope you are going to be camping sometime soon. The wifey is a doll. Your a blessed man. Safe travels!
Weird, have the same exact issue with my 00 Burban. Thanks for the info!
@Mick McGrath take it easy there Harvey Weinstein
What😂😭
Thanks for the guidance. Here's a tip to reuse that black sealant. I used my heat gun to heat it up enough to get back that tackiness.
I don't remember if I've ever commented on any of your videos, but let me take the time now to tell you that I do enjoy them. Thanks!
2 1Road videos in a week? What a treat!
Now spray your tracks with silicone spray often.
Exactly - but first wash out 25 years of crud and grime.
Used the silicone and it worked great!!
Was going to say the same thing. Also add, before you spray get a nylon brush or tooth brush and scrub the felt lined tracks to get debris out of the channel. Then silicone spray.
I was also going to say silicone spray. Just did that on all my vehicles and the windows move so much more smoothly.
Take off inner door panel pressure wash and srcub and silicone tracks befor replacing parts

You're a beast, Jimmy! Thank you for posting this. This is a job every burb owner will eventually have to do lol.
I like the painter's tape thing. Good tip!
I have the exact same issue in my 2003 Suburban, same door and everything. Thanks for the 2003 video!! Keep em coming.
Same on my 95 tahoe
Great video!!

Yessss, it's the Ferris and Jimmy show! Funny wife gets first billing.
Jimmy. Clean the window tracks then lube the tracks with silicone spray. Your new regulator will work much quicker and the window will slide much more easily too.
I'll be going to the parts store today to give this a try thanks for the video that was very good
Great video and tips. Mine were slow going up and I just loosed the window and rolled it up and down the tightened the screw and they work good now.
Good Job! I miss you guys and your guys Vlogs!
Clean the dirt from the tracks and spray silicone in the side tracks. It will help it even more.
Auto body mechanic here Jimmy i subbed I love it man. Thumbs up great job
I used silicone dray spray on window tracks worked well for me. Worth a try.
I had a regulator go out in Mexico, but it was apparently the cable that time. SEVERAL years later, the motor appears to be the problem, so I bought a new regulator with a motor and will replace it. It was that rainy dust storm day for me when it went out 😂
Well done, video. You did an excellent job explaining this repair.
BTW: Your wife is a cutie pie!
On the back doors of my Jeep Cherokee, I used some 1/2” pvc pipe to hold up window. Used some tie wraps to hold things in place. It’s old and I don’t care about back doors.
thanks 😊 bro...I will definitely replace the whole unit...got same issue front driver side..try some lube oil did not work..great video...

I love this video , i dont even have a car lol i just love to fix things 😂
good fix, clean yukon/suburban. i just got a 03 gmc sierra 2500HD 6.0 and the dam thing is clean!!
Good video. Take pictures periodically during the job for reference when you’re putting it back together.
Good job On tbe window job
Good video Jimmy. Everyone with a more than 10 year old vehicle has at least one window acting up. Usually it's the driver's window. Once a year when I lube my truck, I use silicone spray in the window tracks. Sometimes it will even fix the sticking problem you had.
Glass goes down...glass goes up....glass goes down....glass goes up. Thanks Jimmy.
I put tow mirror’s on my truck and the passenger side goes up slowly. I loosen the mounting screws and up the window goes. Kinda confused
Lol surprise window fix. Wives love that!
Just fine. You just removed my excuse for not replacing the motors and regulators on my 03 Suburban. 175k and counting, no way I'd sell it. Thanks.
Same issue on my 2002 Suburban - same door and everything. Not sure I’ll take the time to fix it though as the body is starting to look pretty bad and the window does work most of the time
Did you check out the old one after it was out .any loose wires.
Wow! Thank you for this video. Thought they were more expensive.
Just replaced mines today, thanks!
That earned you a kitchen pass or two. Great job
Why do all these "window stuck down" videos start with the window all the way up, and no demonstration on how to get the window up before the regulator replacement?
What do I do if my window is stuck all the way down
@@kylehenderson849 I'm not quite sure depending on your case, but I think you can remove the door card and push it up by hand
Thank you for a very informative video, going step by step, explaining even the little things.
Excellent video, new subscriber.👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
would this same regulator and moter fit a 06 silverado rear window?
Great video again Jimmy

Before you do any of that make sure the window is not off its track like mine was.
how do u check for that
Can you do it without taking anything off like just looking at the window track from the outside
My 2003 Suburban does the exact same thing. I also noticed the cold issue. Btw.. I hope you already replaced your brake lines... I live in Iowa.
They rusted away.
VERY common on these years
Also keep in mind, if you had the engine running the window would go up much quicker.
I would do the same to my wife friend, good show doors are a pain.
I had a metal piece that fell out the top of the door and have no idea where it goes is there anyway I can send u a photo of it and maybe you'll have an idea
DUDE your wife's cameo was the best part of the video
I remember when both the rear regulators went out on my crew cab Silverado. I remember before I was able to fix them, I had to hold the window up with duct tape.
I wish I had a boyfriend that knows how to do all this. It’s all getting to be so expensive I miss the olden days growing up when we had manual windows lol
I sprayed my window tracks with dry silicone lube and it seemed to fix the issue.
Always try to clean them first. The track where the glass meets the rubber. You went straight to the most difficult thing you could do
Great job !
I'd also spray the window tracks with a little silicone spray so the glass slides smoothly.
Loving you content man! One question i have a Vito W638. 200.000 miles the transmission fluid was never changed. I would like to update it now. Am i good to go when i change the fluid step by step now? Like 1 liter every 10.000 miles?

Wife approved 👌 🙌 👍
Spray some silicone spray in the window frame lubricate where the window slides in the rubber track
Is that the official way to lube those tracks?
@@1RoadGarage Silicon spray lubes won't harm the material used on those tracks, so I would recommend this too. Plus, Scotty said so lol
Are all these motors/regulators the same for an SUV? Is it easy to go buy one yourself?
