    Thanks @buffrange you always bring us good info. I have loaded the 36 grain Barnes Varmint Grenades and they cycle fine in my PSA Rock. They are 0.137" longer than the 30 grain and I use a bit more powder. A COL of 1.580 seems to work well, but I could stick a little more bullet in the case. I crimp with the Lee factory crimp die.

    Definitely an anemic loading for sure. 30gr varmint grenade handloads that I keep just enough below max to safely use in my 16" ps90 are getting 2490-2500 fps. The handguns can take a few more 0.1s grains, my non-sbr PS90 starts threatening the magazine popping out beyond this. When first starting working that up I noticed some odd velocities and similar failures to cycle which I attributed to low case capacity / inconsistent ignition.

    I had a lot of trouble with AE FMJ failing to feed because of the bullet dropping into the case. Pretty much 2 or more per box. That was pre covid and you could get it for $18 a box. But I quit buying it anyway. I've put thousands of 195, 197, 198, and FR199 down range through a FiveSeven and PS90, and not a single failure. As far as a crimping, seems I read somewhere that some FN ammo the bullet is glued. It sure looks like it on the FR199. Have some L191 AP/tracer and it appears to be ever so slightly crimped. I've recently been trying the Fioche FMJ Range Dynamics ammo. So far no failures after about a thousand rounds.

    • @oneounceslugAPEX
      @oneounceslugAPEX 5 місяців тому +1

      @railfanningpoints2.045 there's definitely a different ballistic output from 556 but the 5.7 wins the capacity battle. Also the difference in 556 via 11" barrel vs 5.7 in close quarters is just unnecessary output....., both rounds check all cqb boxes; the 556 just has more recoil and less capacity. Since FN insists on underloading their consumer-grade ammo, they need to put a label on their boxes stating that their ammo will likely not cycle reliably and could end up getting the user seriously injured or k!lled if used for actual defense!

      @@ShastaBean Certainly. If a place like SPG, MidwayUSA, Brownells, PSA wanted to sponsor the channel, I'd add an ad-role in somewhere, and turn off monetization. The thing is YT can and still will add ads as long as I'm in the YPP program. I would need to find a sponsor to supplement that monthly income. I then get uneasy about then what the sponsor wants to be placed on video wise. What if I review a Brownell's product and Midway is the sponsor. I go back and forth about it a lot. I'm not sure what you're trying to say? Winchester ammo under Olin is not owned by FN. The easiest way to sum this up is FN controls the 5.7's loads power to appease political pressure. They keep the ammo barely passable reliability wise and as long as it doesn't penetrate soft IIIA without restricted loads, they don't see the heat.
