There’s a problem that I’ve run into with 1(a), the arc method. The Switch’s sound being passed through the tv to the Yamaha receiver is not 5.1 surround, only stereo. You can verify this by going into the switch settings and choosing the sound option as surround and running the test. The sounds will not play. The sounds will only play when choosing auto or stereo. From what I’ve read the arc connection will not pass 5.1 audio, only the newer e-arc. The only way I can get 5.1 audio from the Switch is by connecting it directly to the hdmi inputs of my Yamaha receiver. This kind of stinks though because then I have to use the receiver remote to switch inputs - exactly what I’m trying to avoid. Can you confirm through the switch audio test that the sound you’re passing to the receiver is 5.1 surround? You have to test this in the sound settings of the Switch.
(Edit) I just read that the Switch uses PCM 5.1 (uncompressed) and cannot be passed through from any TVs to an AV receiver. The sound will be downgraded to 2.1. The only way to get 5.1 is to connect the switch directly to the receiver hdmi input.

Tried hooking the switch up to the tv with an optical cable and directly into the HDMI for the Surround sound and only got stereo both times. My PS4 works fine through optical, so what's the issue?

Cleared a lot of doubts... great vid! thanks. I'm gonna try the red-white method... since my speakers do not have HDMI input.

Hey I watch a lot of your videos and I have a question about the switch you may be able to help me with.
If I’m using a wireless USB headset on the switch in docked mode. How can I get the audio through the headset and the TV at the same time? Mostly asking because I’m wanting to do it for Fortnite. My girlfriend like to watch me play and she got me a headset for Christmas but when I use it. It cuts the sound of the tv off which isn’t as good of an experience for my girlfriend.
I’d really appreciate your insight on this problem I’m having. I can’t find a switch video that mentions it at all. And I’m not having any luck searching the web either.
I hope you had a merry Christmas and happy new year to you!! Keep up with the great videos!!

Your TV likely will have one or more audio output connection ports on the rear connection panel of the TV (Red/White and/or Optical). If that's the case you need to research for a converter product online whereby you'd connect 1st to one of your audio outputs on the TV we mentioned above then plugging that audio output cable into a wireless usb compatible, & having an input to receive the output audio signal cable you plugged into the TV, with your new wireless headphones. Thank you for the nice comment. You risk losing $ if you make purchases but are unable to make this work.
