  • UPDATE VIDEO: Hanes Takes Formerly Homeless Woman Shopping for Her New Apartment. • Taking a Formerly Home...
Unlike the majority of fake homeless experiment and social experiment videos popular on UA-cam, this video featuring a homeless woman in Seattle is as real as real can be.
I have been trying to vlog more and I did my very best to capture the experience of meeting Manda for the first time, touring Seattle's sanctioned homeless tent encampments, and handing out Hanes socks with Manda to homeless people downtown Seattle. Because capturing vlog content is often challenging some of the footage is not the greatest but I selected clips on emotion over quality. I feel it's important to bring you through the experience as authentically as possible. This video is far from perfect but it is real!
A few months back Manda posted a selfie on one of my Facebook pages of her drinking coffee from her homeless camp. We became friends online yet I never imagined that I one day I would be at Manda's camp drinking coffee with her.
This video starts off with the moment I met Manda in real life for the first time. Manda then takes us on a short tour of her homeless camp. I have huge respect for Manda. It takes a lot of courage to open up your life for the world to see when you live under a bridge homeless.
We then meet up with a friend that works for the City of Seattle who takes us on a tour of Tent City 5 Interbay that is run by homeless people Licton Springs Village, a low barrier tent community that is a harm reduction model.
The next day folks from Hanes flew out to Seattle to meet Manda and to give socks away to several of Seattle's homeless camps, the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC), and homeless people unsheltered downtown.
If you want to connect to homeless people you need to listen to homeless people. Manda took control. She was a force of nature handing out socks and hard to keep up with. The passion Manda had to help other people was contagious.
This video is an inside look into Seattle's homeless population and how homeless people survive. Throughout this video, Manda shows us why it feels good to give to others. Let's follow her lead and do all we can to help the hurting people in our communities. Manda is living proof we can all make a real positive difference in our world!

    About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they're on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as UA-cam, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can't ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation's most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America's homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

One of the biggest things I learned when I was homeless. I figured out in the first month, that it was unprofitable to condemn myself for the situation. Being homeless does not define anyone. It is simply temporary geography. So, I learned to get off my own back and simply live. I learned a lot.

Amanda is a true blessing. I love her spirit and even tho her situation is what it is she doesn’t let it keep her down, she has a beautiful heart and kind and loving spirit. Most people that have the least love the most, they are more generous and kind and see the hope that only God gives. My husband and I stumbled upon your series tonight on PBS and it was a HUMBLING EXPERIENCE for us because we were really depressed because he’s out of work and we have $10.00 to our name. We thought this was the end of the world until your series. We realized that we are truly blessed because we do have a home and all of the essentials that keep us comfortable. Thank you for this humbling experience and for bringing us back down to earth. Thank you for helping us see the less fortunate and causing a stirring in our hearts to help do our part in ending homelessness. God is so good and I know Amanda is going to be blessed with her own home and all the things she needs but most of all I know she will still be out there blessing others because of the love she has for them. God bless!

I hope you don’t beat yourself up about that...or about anything really. The best thing to do when you make this type of self realization is to become extremely grateful. Be appreciative of all that you have and take it one step further by giving to those who are less fortunate than you in your community. It can shift your focus from your unhappiness to giving something to someone else’s life.

I wish I could say its going to get better, but human greed never ends. I remember back in the 70's and even part of the 80's one could rent a nice apartment for around $350 to $400, but those days are gone forever.

Not everyone homeless is drug abusing or mentally ill. Its economically and strategically advantageous to make and keep people homeless because when a person stays homeless long enough s/he can that much easier slip into hopelessness and or helplessness and fear to want more and to dream.

I live in the Seattle area I live in a small town that across Bremerton that is where the shipyard and Seattle fairy is and sense 2008 the rent has went from 600 for a two bedroom apartment to 2600$ rent for lot space for RV 5th wheels went from 200$ to 1000$ and mobile homes trailer lot spaces don't forget this fact there are no different between the two of them went from 300$ to 1400$ .and these two are home owners ever single person in RV parks and trailer parks own the home every year rent jumps 60-120$ a house can cost between 300k -900k in my town there is a small two bedroom house that sold for 500k ..in order to get a appointment your need 4000$ down payment a a mobile home can run you between $20,000 _ $60,000 and all of this has come to my small town in just 10 years so it's a big picturer of what is also going on I live in 5th wheel . It's only getting worse here the bubble is not just going to pop it's going to blow the fuck up and it's not going to be pretty for homeowners because there see really soon what it's going to be like to live homeless or the children that they are raising right now I'm going to live life well they can't do anything it won't even be able to afford to live Debbie homeless everyday raise our children and then once they turn adults all of them are going to become homeless because they can't afford the rent they can't afford to buy a home they can't afford to rent an apartment and they won't even be able to afford a trailer or anything so it's either people going to have to get their s*** together right the f*** now and get over this not in my neighborhood mentality or it's not my problem mentality all the true people that are going to face the consequences children and the grandchildren

You sent Manda on a trip. She's awesome.
I'm a bit of a weird guy (foreign) who traveled thru the States and bumped into, met and talked to the homeless. Gave them hamburgers, money, a sweater, took one to the pharmacy with his foot hurt and whatnot. And listened to them.
I've got a soft spot for many of the homeless in the States.
    It's 1st world unworthy.

My sister lived in one of those tiny homes. Honestly they're really cool to me. No electricity.. it would be cool if they all had solar but usally there's a main house. Unfortunately often times the staff in those places usurp their authority over the homeless. 😔 .. I like the lady who said we need to keep people safe.

A friend of mine is in a shelter and the staff have these rules that are too harsh and cold without any room for nuance. The homeless, even seniors, are infantilized all too often by workers with compassion fatigue.
The solution? Housing for all and guaranteed livabable income (google it) for all. Less heirarchy, more equality.

Every city/town should have it's own tiny house community. I've been homeless many times. Some of those times by choice due to high housing costs. While working a fast food restaurant in Santa Cruz, Ca I lived on the side of a hill in a hammock overlooking the ocean. I had a million dollar view, a job & shower at the hygiene center every day except weekends. No rent, water or electric bill. I had a storage & phone bill, no car (bicycle for transportation) and loved it. I hope manda gets the help she needs.

It is by the grace of (enter deity) that we have spiritual, financial and emotional safety nets to support us (the homed) when we struggle. I have learned so much being on the streets the last 3 years doing outreach. May we all offer compassion and listen and see people. Thank you for providing a voice. She is a beautiful person . I lived with the homeless community along the Willamette river in portland. I never met a more wonderful bunch of folks. So supportive. Just like neighbors like it used to be before america became isolated from each other. But resulting from having a job and a home, and helping out providing sanitary items and time and a omnibudsman for the large property owners, I was lost my home and relationship. But the time spent with my Community was rich.. I went to live with relatives to take care of them but is now at an end.
I mean broke using up savings. No excuses. I can make it because I love people.
