Finland has been on our travel bucket list for at least the past year. Writing for a top-notch travel magazine and being invited on a press trip has been a longtime dream of the Melissa half of Chris + Melissa. When she received a request in my inbox from a travel editor she admires to go on a press trip to Finland, there was no way for the answer to be anything but "YAAASSSS!"
Before knowing that we'd be heading to Finland, we'd booked a weekend trip to Albufeira. So, we headed to Helsinki from our relaxing stay at the W Algarve.
In this video, we'll share our amazing journey from Albufeira, Portugal, to Helsinki, Finland. We'll get a glimpse of the city before the two of us have to part ways.

Finland is one of my favourite places. I went camping at midsummer there long ago. I remember the birch forests, reedy lakes, reindeer and Sami, the North Cape. And yes, design is superbly done in Finland. Get some Marimekko while you are there or Iitala glassware. Menus were a challenge.
It is such a nice place.

I bet there also coach-buses from Albufeira to Lisbon airport. One option. This kind of taxi service from airport is nice, but there is also trains and buses coming to heart of Helsinki, not still checking your middle of night hours thou.

You guys are such a together couple, it is difficult to imagine a separation of even four days. Thinking of my six month ones during my military career!
We'd have a tough time going 6 months apart for sure.
They should add a big sign saying "Welcome to HEL" (well at least for those who are in aviation "business" as Helsinki-Vantaa Airport IATA Airport code is "HEL")

Now it´s bright outside 24/7 in Finland since we just celebrated Midsummer or Juhannus in Finnish. Now the days are going to be shorter... :(

The Finns are considered to be the happiest people in the world, at the same time they don't like to laugh very much🤔, they really like the silence!
There is something that makes no sense with the Finns🤔🤣
I was told that they consider silence golden -- a phrase my grandparents were fond of.
That's very strange Finland having the happiest people in the world, while right next door in Sweden the people are the unhappiest with the highest suicide figures in Europe 😮.
@@James-hd6ez Sweden has always been one of the top 10 countries in the World Happiness Report, so I'm not sure what you mean by them having the unhappiest people.
@johannal.4048 It's simple Sweden has the highest suicide rate in Europe....people who kill themselves are usually unhappy 🙁 these are official figures, nothing to do with me.

Whilst I live in Porto now many years ago I lived in Finland, did you know that Helsinki Airport was built by convicted drunken drivers!😉

@chrisplusmelissa Hi Chris and Melissa, there is zero tolerance of drink driving in Finland and anyone caught driving under the influence automatically received a custodial sentence, which back in the day, I seem to remember, could be taken at the offender's convenience and many of them were sent to work at the airport whilst it was being constructed. Happy days!

@@chrisplusmelissa Finland has its own way of dealing with traffic violations and other violations of the law: speeding fines (like most fines) are based on your net income, it can be VERY expensive. The record is over $100,000, explained here:

You mean WW III? Now that Finland is a member of NATO, Russia's attack to Helsinki would mean WW III, and it is highly unlikely that Russia would do that. At the moment we don't perceive any hostile military activity near our border with Russia. All their troops from their military bases in Kola peninsula have been transferred to Ukraine. The border region on Russia's side has never been this quiet. It is very safe and peaceful in Finland at the moment. Poor Ukrainians!

While in Finland make your trip even better by heading across the border into the second best country in the world after Ireland 🇮🇪...Russia and go and see the wonderful city of St.Petersburg and meet some of the friendliest people on the planet! Also try some Russian Vodka and the world famous cakes. Take care you two.

Welll if you don't agree with my comments that's fine,but it might be the second best country on the planet, and being honest I have never visited Russia but Moscow and St.Petetersburg look fantastic! What would your number 1 and 2 favourite countries be?

Both countries are so advanced and friendly, you will NOT be leaving ever again!
I worked in Helsinki for 6 months back in the mid 90's... tbh the best times were taking the highspeed ferry over to Tallinn, Estonia. Way cheaper and better food.
