HELLO FRIENDS!! welcome to the final installment of our Nordic/Scandinavian trip - the Glass Igloos in Finland! we've been seeing these bad boys all over the internet for years, and finally had the chance to try them out - as well as a bunch of arctic activities, including a very chilling ice bath session 🥶and a very bumpy dog sledding tour (foreshadowing)🐕what do you guys think? would you stay in a glass igloo? and where do you think we should we travel to next?? xoxo, saf
I have always wanted to see the northern lights in person! This place is beautiful. I would definitely stay here. Even though the cold is my archenemies. Also, I would love to see you guys go to Australia.
As a dogsled musher who has been racing for 8 years, I can assure you that even when the dogs know and trust you and know you’re a pro at dogsledding, the experience is STILL just hanging on for dear life 🤣

Amazing the people you meet on the internet the closest I have come to dog sledding is reading call of the wild. That was a long time ago but I should reread I remember loving it and crying
Saf needs to do like a spooky trip visiting locations known for horror literature/movies or just haunted like the Stanley Hotel, Sleepy Hollow, Dracula's Castle, Paris catacombs, etc. Could be a fun travel/Halloween series.
melissa saying “saf i might throw up” and saf immediately going “OK, excuse me can we stop?!” was so comforting for some reason, ik it’s the right thing to do but many ppl would go “really? just hold up a little” or be annoyed 😅
"Hold on for like 5 minutes" is what caused me to throw up all over the backseat and therefore my older brother when we were on a road trip as kids. My dad learned his lesson that day lol
As someone with emetophobia, I thought the same thing. It’s already anxiety wrenching enough for us to let someone know we’re gonna get sick so when someone have that type of calm response it makes things that much better. I thought it was sweet too🥹
Kind of related but when Saf and Tyler were streaming and Tyler accidentally wore a shirt that was offensive without knowing, the minute people in the chat started saying it was offensive, he was like “oh I’m sorry, I’m gonna go change really quick” and Saf was like “yeah, go change. We’re really sorry about that guys.” She seems like a very understanding person and is always looking out for the best interests of her employees and fans

We finnish are stiff BUT you must know everything about our animals and you may even hear us babble to our animals. But that you must never tell anyone ☝🏻
Watching the dogs run and pull the sled was so darn cute, they looked so excited and happy to be running like "WE'RE DOIN THE THING GUYS LETS GO LETS GO RUN"
@@Ali_D_Katt I always wondered. I see a lot american youtubers/streamers etc just letting their dog into their garden to do their buisness or go on a little 20 min walk. For most dogs thats waaay to less. Every Dog, even the smallest, needs Brain, Nose and Body activity in their daily life. Some need more running, some more nose work etc. depending on race and age. And of course also their time to rest, sleep. Over here we have specific rules for our dogs, seeing all those "funny" videos of dogs ripping apart trash, furniture... mostly from america, just shows something wents very wrong there ^^
Same! Even though the way they used they pulkka drove me slightly crazy. Like don't leave your legs out, that will slow you down and get you covered in snow friends! 😂
You guys are seriously the best. I love your nature, culture and music, but especially your sense of humor and personalities, perhaps because it's very similar to mine :)
Right? I'd love her to cross the border from Poland to Czechia from the polish town Cieszyn. It's literally just crossing the bridge near the centre of the town, and you can't even tell you're already in a diffiferent country :D
I once crossed into Czechia by accident on a scavenger hunt, because the girl who was holding the map confused the border with a big road… the camp guide asked as not to talk about it at camp, not because it was or something illegal but because it was unplanned and she didn’t want to get into trouble… 😅
I live near 2 borders of Belgium and Germany, I get groceries and gas at my neighbor countries like I also do in my own country 😂 Europe is so unbothered, we truly live in freedom. #grateful
@@Monicaliathank you, I think I have finally found the mysterie border crossing from my childhood holiday years ago. I am trying to search for this place for soo long 😂
Why am I crying??? Those dogs and reindeer are just living their best lives. This makes me happy. So happy I'm bawling. Wow!! I love to see animals treated like they should be.
This world holds so much beauty, we really need to appreciate it more (I especially mean rich billionaires who can actually save this planet and many animals and people from dying.)
Yup, most would say, "We had a small hiccup.", "There was an inconvenience." And that's it, It's nice seeing Saf be 100% honest with us and not hide anything. From showing us old food to being trapped for 2 days in airports.
I’m so glad Saf mentioned the Sámi people because I just watched an amazing movie about them recently and it was very emotional. I’m part Indigenous Canadian myself and how similar it was to how things happened here with residential/day schools and everything was shocking. This is a very respectful and beautiful vlog as always!
A professor I loved at the uni I went to taught about them in all of the anthropology classes she taught. I took every single one of them and I enjoyed learning about them so much! I hope to some day be able to travel up there to see more of their culture in person.
What happened to the Sami people was absolutely horrible, but I'm so thankful that the governments are taking accountability and have given them the rights and protections they deserve.
There is a reason they used those zebra prints in the glass igloos. It's a classic print from a Finnish interior design brand called Artek that was founded by one of Finland's most famous architect Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino Aalto.
luulis että löytyis nätimpiä ja ikoonisempia suomalaisia printtejä/kuoseja ku toi ällö seeprakuosi. muutenkin ihan täysin vääri viba ja teema verrattuna igluihin...
I think what I enjoy so much about these videos is Safiya and Tyler’s attitudes. Even if they’re doing something that I feel like I would hate, they always manage to have fun with it. They’re the kinds of people that I think could make any activity enjoyable together.
I would love to see you guys do some crazy hotels in South America! Like the Skylodge in Peru, Uros Floating Village Peru, the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve in Chile, The Salt Hotel Bolivia. Absolutely loving this series! Or come to Canada, maybe do a series here with Ben and Cristine! There's the Free Spirit Spheres in Nanaimo BC, HI Ottawa Jails In Ottawa Ontario, Quebec’s Le Hobbit at Entre Cîmes et Racines, Oasis Pods in NFLD or New Brunswick, Newfoundland’s Fogo Island Inn, Sundance Lodges in Alberta, Cap Jaseux Adventure Park in Quebec (spheres suspended from trees).
Safiya's gargling excitement noises about the Northern Lights is exactly how I'd feel!! Seeing that is something I'd lose my mind over. Also, the puppies were so precious. I just love this whole video.
Northern lights are just the battle fires from cosmic radiation hitting our deflection shield that's powered by a huge wind up generator inside the planet . It hasn't been wound since the Moon creation, but it's still chugging along .
As a Belgian who drives to Germany, France and the Netherlands quite regularly, I chuckled at their surprise when they didn't have to "do anything" once they crossed the border.
I'm old enough to remember when we had to do something crossing Italy to France. A quick glance at the ID cards, nothing serious, but you have to stop at the gendarme.
I was NOT expecting zebra print comforters and the odd almost 80s dixie cup print "curtains". 😂😂 I feel like if those things were just plain black or white it would feel INFINITELY nicer! I would have a blast decorating those igloos. 😂
It gives Finnish uncle vibes. Like designing the place himself instead of hiring someone who knows even a little bit about it and going "ah yes, I think this is what looks modern and fancy to the foreigners"
Deffinetly 😂 I’m finnish and was very disappointed seeing the decor is so tacky.. I feel like simple white or black would give such a more polished look 😂
For the price per night of those igloos I would expect much nicer details than Ikea shag carpets and frumpy curtains... As a Finn I'm kind of embarrassed that this is perhaps the best known hotel we have :/
I used to work at Kakslauttanen as a receptionist and even back then I thought that the style was terrible 😂 It would be so easy and pretty affortable to elevate the look for more high end with just changing the textiles
Getting that sick and then having to go on a plane is one of my biggest fears and I feel for all of you so badly! That experience looked amazing though so I hope despite the sick end it was wonderful for everyone.
Having anything bad happen while I'm away from home is one of my biggest fears. I've been laid up with the flu for the past two weeks and I honestly don't know how I would survived if this happened while I was travelling.
I bet it was something called "vinterkräksjukan" in swedish (the winter-barf-disease). It's not food poisoning which is bacteria in something you ate, it's a virus that has the same effects (plus sometimes fever). If they haven't been to the nordics in winter it's easier for them to get it as well as the cold conditions making you more susceptible ot viruses!
As your Finnish subscriber, it makes me so happy that you actually came and visited Finland. I’ve followed your journey since you’ve been in ladylike in buzzfeed. I started following you when I was around 14-15 and now I’m 24 and I’m still following your journey. I wish I could have given you and Tyler some other Finland advice, but I hope you guys had a good flight back home even though you were sick. Fun fact my mom works in Finnair so it’s possible you could have been in the same flight as her ❤️ Much love to you and Tyler.
It's so wonderfull that you visited Finland =D. I hope you're alright and not sick anymore! The Nordic lights have been pretty crazy this year so you came at the right time! Visit Finland again 🤗
Not if your friend is actually in trouble and not feeling well. In my experience, social anxiety disappears in these situations for a short moment, just when it's about somebody else and not yourself.
@@mjewrites SAME omg the entire end of that trip is like my worst nightmare. Imagine coming down with a stomach bug in the middle of a long flight like Saf did? I'd just ask to be tossed off the planel lmao
@@Steph-zo5zk yeah, if it's either get puked on or speak despite my social anxiety, I'm choosing the later cause my weak stomach triumphs my social anxiety by a mile
As someone who was also recently cursed by the stomach bug, but in the comfort of my own home, you have my full sympathy. Having it on a crowded plane, oh boy, what a nightmare. They also say that planes are flying petri dishes so you might have gotten it from there, considering how often you flew
I recently got a stomach bug at a music festival. It was NOT pretty haha. I had to leave early and it was mostly me just desperately hoping I wouldnt vom or shart all over my partner's car lmao
Unfortunately that's the main reason why people are getting that stomach bug, because they are traveling and going to places with it, probably half of the travelers in that plain got it now :D But sure its kind a understandable that they didn't want to miss the flight.
Yup.. I got a stomach bug from the plane at the beginning of our trip to visit family a few years ago. I kindly shared it with everyone else one by one 🙈
You need to go to Hamanasi in Belize! It's an eco-friendly resort that has coastal rainforest. We stayed in a tree house in the jungle, went snorkeling along the Carribean reef, saw two different Mayan ruins sites, went to a chocolate farm and made our own chocolate bars! There is so much to see and do and it's such a neat experience!!!
ive heard such great things about belize and it’s definitely on my travel list for the future. one of my vet teachers in highschool went for an exotic animals in veterinary medicine trip shortly before covid had closed most border off and we got to hear so many amazing things and was definitely a highlight of my school days during the covid shutdown was seeing pictures of her trip.
Yes please check out Belize!!! I got to go their for a month on a university trip and it was amazing!! Check out the Lamanai Archaeology reserve and Caye Cauker as well as San ignacio, the food and culture in Belize is Amazing!!
Living in the northern US, I've only experienced -20 Fahrenheit, and even then walking to classes meant frozen nose hairs and blinding white. I can't even imagine what these temperatures feel like!
@@halaileybailey Oh, -20 degrees in Fahrenheit is about as cold as it gets in most of Finland during winter, with some short exceptions, usually in the very north and sometimes east. According to the converter I used, that would be about -29 celsius :D I read that this past winter's cold record was about -35 degrees celsius (-31 degrees fahrenheit) and it was in the northernmost region, as could be expected. The coldest it's ever been recorded here was -51,5 celsius (-60 fahrenheit) and that was over twenty years ago. It is much more typical to have longer periods of about -10 to -15 degrees celsius (14 to 5 degrees fahrenheit), with the very South being too warm to have consistent snow coverage. Our temperatures are actually much milder compared to the same latitude in other parts of the world, since the Gulf Stream keeps us somewhat warm :D We just get the light and darkness of the north, with the somewhat livable temperatures :'D Northern Finland doesn't get even a sliver of sun for a month during winter, and the sun doesn't go below the horizon for an equal time during summer. It's always fun to look at sunrise and sunset times of the town of Utsjoki and see a date instead of a time xD I personally live about half-way up the country, so here, you basically get three hours of sunrise going straight to sunset, during winter, and it's often hidden by clouds, anyway. The opposite in the summer, and even when the sun is down for the couple hours it stays below horizon, the sky doesn't get dark, it just becomes "evening" for a while :D
As someone who owns a husky, they're excitable little freaks. They have so much energy and they're the cutest on the planet. All they wanna do is run, play, and have a good time
As someone who lives in inland Alaska, I will say that nose freezing is WEIRD. It’s my least, and also favorite feeling. Also, you got gorgeous northern lights videos. I’ve lived here 3 years and see them multiple times a winter and the awe factor never leaves. Reindeer are basically giant puppies, and I rescued two previous Alaskan husky sled dogs and they’re all that wild. I loved this! 💜
@@misseselise3864 never. I can see them out the windows of my house in the winter every few weeks, and yeah never tired of them. It’s like seeing a moose. Always the best thing in the world.
When I was little, I thought I wanted to own a sled and sled-dogs when I grew up because I was obsessed with Balto. Now I'm glad I never got to follow through with that particular dream because I could *not* handle their energy 😩
As someone who had a stomach bug hit me on the plane on my return trip from China you have my deepest sympathy. When the Chinese flight attendants couldn’t understand my panicked attempt to express why waiting politely in the bathroom line was a bad idea my stomach gave out and I projectile hurled all over the back of the plane in front of the bathrooms while they and several passengers looked on in horror. So whatever happened on your plane ride home, I get wanting to never speak of it. 🤐 On a more pleasant note I’d love to see you guys do a series visiting all the international Disney Parks and especially try some of the cool foods that aren’t in the US and compare things like Haunted Mansion rides in each park.
I flew from Montreal to Paris, and since it was an overnight flight we were given a meal. When we landed in Paris I started feeling weird and the next thing I knew I threw up ALL the food. So embarrassing.
Hey, thanks for highlighting some of the Saami stuff. My mom's side of the family is Saami/Norwegian, and although I've been to Norway, I've always wanted to go to Sapmi and see the reindeer for myself. It's beautiful how the landscape of Finland looks like Northern Minnesota where a lot of the immigrants moved to.
We were at the Nordic Museum in Seattle and when they talked about how the forests & coasts of Washington reminded the immigrants who moved from New York to the Midwest (I guess further south than Minnesota) to WA, I almost cried I was so happy for them! 😊 And I'm so glad, too, the Saami are well represented at that resort.
I'm really happy you included Finland in your Scandinavian visit because I have seen way too many people ignore us. People seem to think our country is not that cool or interesting but it honestly is very much like Sweden. I also love the pronunciation of Finnish things, always fun to hear how someone from somewhere else says them. Also fun fact: Finland invented the Sauna over 2000 years ago and every single house has one, all apartment buildings also have a sauna to reserve if you don't have one in your apartment. Smoke saunas are the best! A cool swim in the lake right after sauna is the fricking best and there's no other feeling in this world that could beat that for me. Can't wait for mid summer.
My father’s partner is Finnish and when they were looking for a house to buy (in Belgium), a room that could be made into a sauna was a priority. 🙂 I also like to use it every now and then.
When Safiya mentioned the accidental nudity because of all the glass my first thought was Finns would barely notice it. I do wish one or both of them had fully plunged into the water though, the cold hitting the scalp after a sauna is such an amazing feeling.
Okay, I actually loved everything about this trip, like this is definitely my dream vacation. The glass igloos are gorgeous to stay in, all the animals are adorable, the sauna + frozen plunge experience definitely looks both thrilling and relaxing, the expeditions into the woods were SO pretty, and those hot chocolates look bomb even if you didn’t just come back from dog sledding. Every shot into the distance was awe-strikingly beautiful, and god, I can’t tell you how much the little kid in me lit up watching this video. I grew up in a place devoid of snow so this looks like a dream!
I hope you get to experience it, sometime! I'm Finnish myself, and we are definitely proud of our nature, here. One of my own favorite winter experiences was the winter biology field course I took some years ago, with our group cross country skiing through the frozen forests and mires of a national park, while it was all sunshine and powdered snow, during daytime. The way snow glimmers in sunlight never ceases to amaze me! I definitely recommend our strongest relaxation tradition, sauna, as well as the avanto-swimming (dipping into the frozen lake), although, to be perfectly honest with you, I've never done the winter swimming, myself! Only late autumn swimming, without snow and ice :'D There is an alternative though, which is taking a roll in the powdered snow in only your bathing suit or naked, and running back to sauna, that one I have done many times! But you need soft powder snow for that to be a good experience :D I definitely should try the avanto next winter, though, need to be able to call myself a true Finn and all that xD
Same here growing up in a tropical country, my dream is to experience a proper tundra climate. Watching Northern lights has been a childhood dream of mine
Still, as a Dutch person, it is hilarious to see you guys being so weirded out by there not being any border hassle in Europe. My country literally has a town that just has pieces of Belgium inside of it. Also, there is the "drielandenpunt", and there is just a rock you can walk around and you cross the borders to and from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. I also remember the first time I went to America and had to cross the border into Canada being astonished by the hassle. Edit: I see similar comments now, sorry
There's also one of those landmarks in Finland in the north called the "kolmen valtakunnan rajapyykki", in English a "Three-Country Cairn", where the borders of Finland, Sweden and Norway meet and you can go around it and walk through all the countries!
From someone who's been working in the region, wouldn't be surprised if the bug came from Kakslauttanen. Standards there aren't as lux as it seems. The owner got fined a few years ago for improper waste disposal. I'm happy that you mentioned that there are other Glass Igloo hotels. Would love to see you back in Finnish Lapland again, not necessarily for a video
Doing a complete 180 and visiting the countries in Southern Europe during Summer would be a fun series (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, etc.) I would love to see what you guys think of these countries, specially Portugal since it's my country ;D.
Greece is so beautiful! If you have a chance, stop in a little town in the mountains and get lunch. That's what my group did. We needed our guide to translate for us, but I had the most delicious meatballs, and frankly food I've ever had.
@@anonymousopinion228comments like this make me laugh a little bc tourists don’t realize that’s just all of greece 😭 we got stray cats and dogs and mountain villages everywhere you go
I genuinely think this is one of my favorite videos of this series. There were just so many great moments in it, glass igloos, northern lights, the PUPPIES! Also the comments under this video are so wholesome! 10/10 video, will watch again 😊
Ive actually never heard of a glass igloo, now I want to venture to Finland to experience this. I love your channel because it shows me places I’d like to go and experience when I’m older and have the money. Thanks for the uploads safiya ❤
I'm from Northern Ontario in Canada and we get -40 degrees Celsius in the winter. I've worked at a gold mine in Nunavut and experienced -60 degrees celsius during the winter. While growing up, I've seem a lot of northern lights. Being indigenous to the area, our elders used to tell us that "if you whistle at the northern lights, they'll pick you up and take you away." It was more than likely a deterrent to keep up home late at night. :)
I'm so sorry to hear you guys and Melissa got sick! I hope that didn't ruin the end of your expedition. It seems like you still had a lot of fun. I am glad you guys got to the the Aurora Borealis dancing in the night sky. It's a definite bucket list item for me. 🥰
The border crossing being mostly uneventful in Europe is something I’ve never really noticed until our American exchange student in school pointed it out on a trip. I absolutely love travelling and I’m so happy that you often don’t even realise you crossed the border, I would hate to have to do all kinds of things just to get into a different country lol
Fun fact: The word "sauna" is the only finnish word that has been adobted into international use in multible languages. I think it's the only word in english adopted from finnish. My mom does ice bathing (avantouinti; avanto = an opening in a frozen lake, uinti = swimming) throughout the winter in a dedicated swimming spot in a lake nearby with the water kept in motion mechanically in order to keep it from freezing over. She swims multible rounds in this small pool sized pond. I'd like to start too but the capital city area is basically the only place in southern Finland where every neighborhood doesn't have a lake nearby. My dad describes ice bathing like this: "It's as fun as banging your hed to a wall - feels really good when you stop." I'm so glad you got to visit Finland and had fun!
The way Saf explained her rollercoaster of emotions is basically exactly how I would explain giving birth "Before I went in, I was terrified. While I was in, I hated it.. but afterwards, I was like - wow, that was fun! Let us do it again" 😂🎉
Now that you’ve experienced the cold I think you should try desert camping in tents and stuff! I’d love to hear what you think since it’s been on my bucket list forever. Also, thank you so much for your Vegas series! I never had an interest in Vegas and now I’m here right now having a great time and visiting many of your recommendations!
As a Finn it's so fun for me to see what kind of adventures some of my favorite youtubers have had in our country! Almost feeling like screaming 'torille!' (if you know, you know.) Edit: finally watched the full video and this was such a fun ride! I laughed at the 'Finns are Swifties' comment (bc it's true for me). And lucky you you got to see the Northern lights! I don't often see from where I am (notably more south than this resort). Also, I've never been in 'avanto', which is how we call the holes with the freezing cold water, even though I live here, so the fact that you did it multiple times during your first visit earns my respect. Thanks for sharing this trip with us!
Norwegian here. So glad you decided to visit Scandinavia and had a good time here. I would like to say that sadly stomach bugs are a pretty common thing to catch around winter times here (At least from my own experience). Also, I know our winters gets cold (Especially compare to where in the US you are from) , but I get the feeling you lot were not dressed properly for the Scandinavian winters. I kept seeing Saf and Tyler not covering their neck with something warm when outside, which is pretty important to not get sick. Still, it was a delight watching the two of you exploring something so close to my own home, and hopefully you'll visit us again someday. ❤ (Sorry if my English is shaky)
As someone who developed a roaring head cold about 30 minutes into an 8 hour transatlantic flight, which ended up with 2 more connecting flights about 1 hr each, you have my sincerest sympathies. The pressure makes everything insanely more miserable than it would be in normal conditions.
@Snow999 Ok so when you get a cold your symptoms can appear in your head or in your chest. For me a cold usually starts with a runny and stuffed up nose, and in extreme cases pugged up ears, this is what is a classic head cold. Then I start a sore throat and coughing/respiratory symptoms, and this is what we call a chest cold. Now the big deal about flying with a head cold is the pressure changes. When your drainage system goes down due to a cold you can’t really pot your ears to equalize the pressure as well, it sometimes at all. This is really painful. It’s partly why babies cry a lot on airplane. They can’t regulate their pressure system as well as we can so flying can be legit uncomfortable or even painful for them. So yeah. Hope that’s an understandable explanation.
Animal petting is ALWAYS a good activity! Those dogs enjoy the ride sooo much ! The whole trip looks just super fun! If I had the money to spend on it, I'd go ^^
As a finn living in Finland this is new for me too so I appreciate the video. I've stayed in a different Igloo hotel and it was way more modern than this one. They had fireplace and jacuzzi and everything, but it was also crazy expensive. Totally worth the price. I hope you explore Finland more! We have such a beautiful and rare culture and beautiful places to go to
Next up: Saf and Tyler stay at all the Disney World resorts… and try all the snacks. And/or try all the international Disney parks/resorts. Love your videos!
My favourite game to play watching Saf and Ty is seeing how many times Saf references the 'I'm talking about Mountain Dew baby' guy. This did not disappoint.
I'm so happy you were brave and did whole 2 rounds of sauna and lake!! I promise it's not just for hazing haha, the endorphines you get after going back to sauna from cold are out of this world! Plus the whole excitement and giggles of braving the cold together. The easier version is in the summer, you still get the same effect of temperature change. And you can take it a bit slower, go 10 times back and forth, drink some beer, and enjoy the sunny evening
As a kid me and my sisters would jump into the hot tub, then the pool, back and forth really fast. It was so fun lol. My mom said it was dangerous and can cause heart problems? So we were forced to stop. Wonder where she got that dumb misinformation
@sabrina It isn’t misinformation. Cold water shock is a real thing, that can lead to heart attacks. “"That cold shock can be dangerous," said Dr. Jorge Plutzky, director of preventive cardiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "Whether there are health benefits or not is not clear and has not been established." Plunging the body into cold water triggers a sudden, rapid increase in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure known as the cold shock response. That can cause a person to drown within seconds if they involuntarily gasp while their head is submerged. The shock also places stress on the heart and makes it work harder.“ -American Heart Association Don’t do this alone. If you have no heart problems then you’re probably fine, but you don’t want to find out that you have an undiagnosed underlying condition when there is no one there to help you.
@@MissCaraMint You're not supposed to submerge your head when you do this or jump like cannonball. You ascend steady and slow while holding onto a ladder. Also this is a whole culture and tradition in Finland that so many people have done forever. No you are not supposed to do it if you have heart problems, but you're also not supposed to watch scary movies or go to a roller coaster and nobodys going around telling those things are deadly for avarage people. And also I don't think those kids were going to get cold shock for jumping into a pool in summer
@@MissCaraMint what also causes increase in breathing, heart rate and stresses the heart: exercise. That doesn't mean exercise is bad for the heart. It depends on your overall health
@@CLEVERstageNAMES Cold water shock is an officially recognized danger in water from as warm as 15 Celcius and below. It’s actually really common and really dangerous. Going from very hot temperatures to very cold are especially dangerous. This is especially important to know about in such cases as @sabrina is writing about. As she mentions runing back and forth quickly and jumping in. Now an indoor pool, even a cold one, probably isn’t as cold as 15 degrees C so chances are slim that this particular scenario results in death. However, that doesn’t mean that this isnt dangerous behaviour that could cary over when a kid is sendt to swim at a colder location than a pool. Lot’s of people die every year because they jump into the sea, a river, or a pond before the summer heat has adiquately heated the water up. So it is very important that what her mother said isn’t dismissed as a simple lie. It isn’t. It’s a very legitimate concern that should be taken seriously, as it’s a really bad habbit that can if unchecked have tragic consequenses. You will also notice that I did not address you in my initial comment. This is because I really don’t have an issue with ice bathing at all. As you say you enter far slower and get acclimated to the temperature. This is indeed the safest way to do this. Secondy you don’t generally put your head under, though you absolutely can in safe conditions. What’s more you generally don’t go ice bathing alone, which a very important factor, and the only thing I really encouraged people not to do. Surely you agree that no one should go swimming or ice bathing alone? As for your point about avoiding things if you have a heart condition. I believe I stated that you are probably fine if you don’t have one. The issue is when you don’t know you have an undelying heart condition. It’s also different than simply exercising or general physicall eaxtivity. See the whole point isn’t just that your heart rate goes up, it’s about how fast it goes up. Also holding your breath while you jump may be partly why it’s so dangerous compared to just regular exercise. One which might explain why this can be dangerous for even the young and healthy. «Plunging into cold water during hot weather can cause heart attacks even in young, fit and healthy individuals, according to new research by scientists at Portsmouth University.» «In the study, published in the Journal of Physiology, Prof Tipton and Prof Mike Shattock of King's College London explain how rapid submersion in cold water, combined with holding one's breath, automatically activates two powerful responses in the body which may interact and cause conflict for the heart. The body's cold shock response speeds up the heart rate and causes hyperventilation which can conflict with the diving response, which does the opposite and which acts to conserve oxygen. This can lead to autonomic conflict, causing the heart to go into abnormal rhythms and, on occasions, causing sudden death.» - Heartdotorgdotuk Of course the behaviours you and sabrina are talking about are very different. Which is why I was addressing my original comment to her, and not you.
Also I suggest the giraffe manor in South Africa as an unusual hotel experience because I’m totally curious about this “stay with the giraffes” thing. Or if you need something closer to home for a series you could always run through all the crazy hotels at Disney world, lol
As a Finn I am just so apologetic for them not even taking a snowmobile ride to your cabin with your luggage and for that price point the zebra print is unforgivable. Also sad you caught a stomach flu :( dis you taste reindeer? They’re ofc cuter alive :-D THE PUPPIES, my friend used to work there as a sleigh dogs’ assistant.
The zebra print and short curtains were giving a cheap Air BnB vibe. I would be bothered too, but luckily they're so optimistic; the experience definitely made up for it, I'm sure!
@@Vale-ql6wm yeah its such a strange decor choice that just cheapens the look of the place so so much... its kind of bizarre. i never would have thought these glass igloos would look like that inside lol they always look so fancy and modern on the outside .. even just plain white bedding wouldve been much better.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Finland, but it's sad to hear about the stomach bug. It's sadly quite common during winter/spring time over here. But as a Finn, i do hope you'll visit Finland again, but in summer! And i also would love to hear your opinion about our (biased but true) underrated cusine!! There's a Moomin themed Ice cave (full of amazing ice sculptures) in Leppävirta, Moomin world in Naantali, also many other finnish summer activities! And also Rovaniemi's Santa village is the most known place, when it comes to Santa Claus! They film the country's iconic live tv show, where many kids call just to talk to Santa!!
@@ILikeBirds80 if you want to see more moomin stuff, you can go to the moomin museum in Tampere. also Tampere has other great places (even as a Finn myself)
Just what I was thinking! Lots of extreme experiences, cosy/scenic experiences (Queenstown anyone?) and of course Hobbiton. Although I feel like Safiya would get a kick out of Bulls and all its punny small town glory. 😂
There is so much to see in Scandinavia, going in the summer is amazing! The stomach bug can also be the change in food and water. And new people sharing germs. Kinda like how kids get sick after the first week of the beginning of the school year after not seeing people over the summer. And don't forget airplane air. 😊
I really love your travel theme you have going on. Once you feel better I would love to see you explore more extreme hotel experiences. Thank you for being willing to do what I am unable. As a disabled person there are things I cannot do and I am happy to watch you do it like I was there with you!
I really love this series! I think you should go to Australia next. There are a lot of different activities depending on where you visit, and it's such a beautiful country
Your videos are consistently entertaining I really love them! My suggestion: there are luxury trains that go across Australia, it’s like 5 days and you sleep on the train etc I think you’d enjoy that
I haven’t watched yet, but I have watched you guys growing up. I went from a young teen, to a full grown adult who’s married and have a child. Thank you for keeping me entertained all these years.
Such kind people you two are! Im happy you get to travel and see such beautiful places, i thank you for bringing us with you and going to in depth. Really gives us a chance to experience some amazing things we may never have the chance to. ❤❤❤
Greetings from Finland. I have to say that as a Finn I don't understand the interior design of those igloos. It's wonderful that you got to see the northern lights!
As a norwegian traveling to sweden and denmark for a weekend outing, The comment about the uneventful boarder "You dont have to do anything? Nothing at all?" had me luaghing a bit ❤😂
If you are (or anyone reading this, is!) inspired to take this trip again, you should consider Wilderness Hotel Muotka! I went there with my husband for our honeymoon, and it was incredible. The igloos (which were luxurious and close to the main lodge) had their own saunas, the food was wonderful, and there were abundant winter activities.
I love your vacation Vlogs, as a person in a wheelchair these videos help me to see different parts of the world. Thank you for that. Would love to see you in Germany. 🥰
I’m so jealous that you got to sleep in an igloo, meet sled dogs, see the northern lights and meet reindeer! Thanks for bringing us along. Seeing the northern lights is on my bucket list, and I think I now have to add those glass igloos as well.
I've tried to explain to my (nonnative Finn) husband that you can hear when it is cold and in this video you can hear how cold it is just from the foot steps.
They should definitely try every international Disney resort they can. Like, they used to go to Disney Land a lot when they lived in California, so they should go to Disney World in Florida, Disney Land Paris, one of the Disney cruises, and other Disney parks around the world.
I am so sorry you guys got sick. That's the worst kind of sick too. BUT! You did have an amazing trip with so many adventures not many people will ever see. Great video. I can't wait to see where you go next.
I got hit with a stomach bug a few hours after getting off of a plane and I remain extremely thankful I did not have to experience it while in flight. You have my full sympathies for having to go through that!
You present the most interesting and fascinating places like no one else can! Making it such fun and adventure! Pleasure to watch! Look forward to all your videos!
HELLO FRIENDS!! welcome to the final installment of our Nordic/Scandinavian trip - the Glass Igloos in Finland! we've been seeing these bad boys all over the internet for years, and finally had the chance to try them out - as well as a bunch of arctic activities, including a very chilling ice bath session 🥶and a very bumpy dog sledding tour (foreshadowing)🐕what do you guys think? would you stay in a glass igloo? and where do you think we should we travel to next?? xoxo, saf
Thank you for this Saf, absolutely loved this series and I'm looking forward to finishing this glass igloo video❤, hope you and Tyler are doing well.

I have always wanted to see the northern lights in person! This place is beautiful. I would definitely stay here. Even though the cold is my archenemies. Also, I would love to see you guys go to Australia.
I’d love to experience the igloos they look super cool especially the sled riding

Hearing Tyler say, "you got it sweetie," was so sweet and encouraging when they did the plunge pool.
Fr! I was waiting for someone to mention how sweet that was!

i had to turn on captions to see if i was being ridiculous! 🤣
melissa saying “saf i might throw up” and saf immediately going “OK, excuse me can we stop?!” was so comforting for some reason, ik it’s the right thing to do but many ppl would go “really? just hold up a little” or be annoyed 😅
"Hold on for like 5 minutes" is what caused me to throw up all over the backseat and therefore my older brother when we were on a road trip as kids. My dad learned his lesson that day lol
Well I feel in this situation everyone would rather switch than having someone trhow up on them. But yeah Saf must be an awesome boss 😌
I immediately thought that too. Maybe I shy away from social confrontation but her also immediately speaking up was cool to see.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED how the instructor introduced every single dog before your ride. Even letting you know who the dog leaders are. SOO cute
My fav part too

@@Ali_D_Katt I always wondered. I see a lot american youtubers/streamers etc just letting their dog into their garden to do their buisness or go on a little 20 min walk. As a European it is so funny how impressed Safiya and Tyler are by the “uneventful” border crossing 😂

Absolutely valid reason! Personally I think Marimekko Lumimarja or something like that would still look nicer

I am from South Africa. The Zebra interiors seemed strange to me... you would expect that on a safari. Thank you for the explanation.
I think what I enjoy so much about these videos is Safiya and Tyler’s attitudes. Even if they’re doing something that I feel like I would hate, they always manage to have fun with it. They’re the kinds of people that I think could make any activity enjoyable together.

Getting that sick and then having to go on a plane is one of my biggest fears and I feel for all of you so badly! That experience looked amazing though so I hope despite the sick end it was wonderful for everyone.
Same. Absolutely horrifying!
If they haven't been to the nordics in winter it's easier for them to get it as well as the cold conditions making you more susceptible ot viruses!

as a northern girl, the squeaky Styrofoam sound of the snow tells me everything about how cold it is (and the frozen nose hairs 😆)
Living in the northern US, I've only experienced -20 Fahrenheit, and even then walking to classes meant frozen nose hairs and blinding white. I can't even imagine what these temperatures feel like!
You can really tell the temperature by the sound of snow 😂 It's so real
At negativ 13 C it's not really that cold yet. Thats the warm vinter up there
I really miss feeling with frozen nose hair now and how silent it is when snowing with huge snowflakes 🙈
Hearing the dogs so excited to run made me so happy I could cry. They love what they do and they do what they love

I was happy to hear that too! Saami culture is a big part of Scandinavia/Nordic countries and it’s a shame it was buried by racist historians.
I love hove Tyler is more worried about Saf than himself. He's freezing and he goes "let's get you inside"
There were just so many great moments in it

I love the fact that when Melissa thought she was going to throw up saf yelled immediately for them to stop showing how much she cares for people.
I mean yeah but literally any decent person would do the same thing especially if they are directly in front of someone saying they might throw up
@@grayonthewater I think they meant like zero hesitation lol
This is a very natural reaction
@@strawberrybunny1875 That is exactly what I meant she didn’t even think twice to say something. Thank You
Still, as a Dutch person, it is hilarious to see you guys being so weirded out by there not being any border hassle in Europe.
Well a more homogeneous country can do that
Can you get into Russia like that?
From someone who's been working in the region, wouldn't be surprised if the bug came from Kakslauttanen. Standards there aren't as lux as it seems. The owner got fined a few years ago for improper waste disposal. I'm happy that you mentioned that there are other Glass Igloo hotels. Would love to see you back in Finnish Lapland again, not necessarily for a video
Thanks for the information!!
Yeah food poisoning hits hard and _fast_ ; they had to have got it from Kakslauttanen.
Judging by all the baggage sledges thrown about in the area and not being picked up, what else are they failing to do?
Which other Igloo hotel would you recommend?
I second the question of where do you think ts the best resort to visit in the region?
Doing a complete 180 and visiting the countries in Southern Europe during Summer would be a fun series (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, etc.) I would love to see what you guys think of these countries, specially Portugal since it's my country ;D.
Have you looked at the temperature??
Greece 🥺 its so beautiful there ... I can't remember the name but there is a town full of cats I think she'd love
Greece is so beautiful! If you have a chance, stop in a little town in the mountains and get lunch. That's what my group did. We needed our guide to translate for us, but I had the most delicious meatballs, and frankly food I've ever had.
Mediterranean Europe in the Summer would be HELL.

The part where they were on a husky sled ride with a stomach bug was hilarious
I also hope it was not noro as they traveled on plain the next day.
@@NiinaMariaMaria yeah unfortunately it might have been, I hope she was okay during the flight 🥲🥲
My dad describes ice bathing like this: "It's as fun as banging your hed to a wall - feels really good when you stop."
I'm so glad you got to visit Finland and had fun!
It's not the only word however the other is a type of stone so not as used or known as sauna. Rapakivi granite is the other I could think of.
I can't get over the Reindeer and the dogs, they're sooooo CUTE! 😭😭😭
The way Saf explained her rollercoaster of emotions is basically exactly how I would explain giving birth "Before I went in, I was terrified. While I was in, I hated it.. but afterwards, I was like - wow, that was fun! Let us do it again" 😂🎉
Yessss 😂😂
Now that you’ve experienced the cold I think you should try desert camping in tents and stuff! I’d love to hear what you think since it’s been on my bucket list forever. Also, thank you so much for your Vegas series! I never had an interest in Vegas and now I’m here right now having a great time and visiting many of your recommendations!
From a Vegas local, hope you're having a good time in town!
As a Finn it's so fun for me to see what kind of adventures some of my favorite youtubers have had in our country! Almost feeling like screaming 'torille!' (if you know, you know.)
Edit: finally watched the full video and this was such a fun ride! Thanks for sharing this trip with us!
itse tietenkin kommentoin tämän "suomi mainittu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! torille!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" asian välittömästi :D
Joo olin menossa tekeen samaa mut hienoa, että joku on hoitanut asian jo 💪🏻😤
Avanto is great ♡
I agree
(Sorry if my English is shaky)
As someone who developed a roaring head cold about 30 minutes into an 8 hour transatlantic flight, which ended up with 2 more connecting flights about 1 hr each, you have my sincerest sympathies. The pressure makes everything insanely more miserable than it would be in normal conditions.
What's a head cold?
My sincerest condolences.
@@MissCaraMint Thanks for explaining. I understood it.
As a Finnish fan who has been to Kakslauttanen, I'm so glad to see Safiya here!
As a Finn, I'm so glad you visited Finland and liked it!
It is now on my bucket list!
I NEED A BALTIC SERIES😂😂 We dont have ice hotels or igloos but Baltics is magical, healing and calming
I think it would be super cool if you guys traveled to Japan and went to all the different themed cafes there!!
Safiya and Tyler have never disappointed us. Always good contents
Animal petting is ALWAYS a good activity! Those dogs enjoy the ride sooo much ! The whole trip looks just super fun! If I had the money to spend on it, I'd go ^^
Being stuck on a long plane ride when sick is my worst nightmare. I love your travel videos, I didn't realize how much I missed them.

Exactly!!!!
Sounds about right, haha! 😂
I think we are all doing it considered you clicked on this video.
As a finn living in Finland this is new for me too so I appreciate the video. I've stayed in a different Igloo hotel and it was way more modern than this one. They had fireplace and jacuzzi and everything, but it was also crazy expensive. Totally worth the price. I hope you explore Finland more! We have such a beautiful and rare culture and beautiful places to go to
Which one did you stay at and which room/igloo did you book if I may ask that too?
What they said ^
Next up: Saf and Tyler stay at all the Disney World resorts… and try all the snacks. And/or try all the international Disney parks/resorts. Love your videos!
That would be great! They could also try one of the Disney parks not in US if they want to compare to what they know.
"Whether there are health benefits or not is not clear and has not been established."
Plunging the body into cold water triggers a sudden, rapid increase in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure known as the cold shock response. That can cause a person to drown within seconds if they involuntarily gasp while their head is submerged. The shock also places stress on the heart and makes it work harder.“
-American Heart Association
Don’t do this alone.
«Plunging into cold water during hot weather can cause heart attacks even in young, fit and healthy individuals, according to new research by scientists at Portsmouth University.»
«In the study, published in the Journal of Physiology, Prof Tipton and Prof Mike Shattock of King's College London explain how rapid submersion in cold water, combined with holding one's breath, automatically activates two powerful responses in the body which may interact and cause conflict for the heart.
The body's cold shock response speeds up the heart rate and causes hyperventilation which can conflict with the diving response, which does the opposite and which acts to conserve oxygen.
This can lead to autonomic conflict, causing the heart to go into abnormal rhythms and, on occasions, causing sudden death.»
- Heartdotorgdotuk
Of course the behaviours you and sabrina are talking about are very different.
