A quick note about Gimberly v2! A few people have asked about the Maya exclusivity: The reason for that is because rigging in Blender is very, very different from Maya and would be an entirely different rig from scratch. And I don't have much rigging experience in Blender, so even if it was created for both, I wouldn't be able to offer support for a Blender version. However, if someone created a Blender version of the rig as a few people have offered, I don't have any issues with that as long as it's released under the same license (which means, if it uses my model/skeleton, it must also be released for free non-commercial educational use with attribution). I can't offer any official support for that "unofficial" Blender rig, but it's totally fine with me if someone wants to make that. I realize Maya is not free like Blender is, but it's what I use and can stand by for the Gimberly rig. I love Blender and it's community, so apologies! I'm just married to Maya. And you can always use Maya Educational (free with an edu email), or Maya Indie ($300 a year for independent/learning use).
Hey, you mentioned some hair and fabric physics and I would be pretty interested in a video. It was hell for me to deal with minor fabric physics for a small project, I was just curious about your thoughts and takes on when and how to use it. Thanks for reading this if you did.

It’s both simple and complex, because feelings are complex and the artist’s intent is communicated in an instant in thoughts that operate in his or her own shorthand language. Everyone has this quality. The biggest mistake is thinking you can’t do it too. You can. It is not a monumental task. Just one that requires work and some dedication.

Seeing this amount of quality and characterisation in your work pushes me to continue my studies. You're a great motivational tool, and I'm grateful that you've posted a video at the end of the semester.
This sounds weird but I really appreciate tutorial UA-camrs who are kind of like the “teachers” of the site being up to date with memes and pop culture; it’s really refreshing.
Since you read every comment, I wanted to let you know your that shit is super cool. For as few videos as you have your production quality is OUTSTANDING, it’s kinda inspiring, so thanks man 🙏
Aw this video is awesome! I loved to hear more about your character! It's a simple detail, but I love how you animated the moment at 3:02 . When you mention the ponytail, and her facial expression translates a "oh, right! " And she turns around :D your content is amazing, can't wait to see more! (Don't stress yourself though haha)
i love how almost everything is monotone to help focus on the good stuff and not overstimulating. im not interested into animation, but these videos are so entertaining that I cant resist watching them anyway!
Character design is one of my passions, and I always love seeing someone else's workflow into making their own character. I like how every design aspect of your character has a purpose as to why it's there, like her red/blue outfit and the hair tie. Designing characters with intentional details like that is what makes the most original character designs imo.
I definitely think making these more accessible via cute and fun character designs was the right choice! Your videos are part of what got me back into Pixel art, even if its not exactly the same as 3D animation, lol. Keep up the awesome content!
This channel has the polish of a million sub channel. And even aside from that your interest and how you are presenting everything with joy is just so intoxicating that I myself started to use Blender again. When you asked for the 100k goal i was literally confused if we werent already there, but just keep doing what you are doing because it seems people like it. Keep it up :)
I just recently found your channel and was actually drawn to it because of Gimberly. Not just her, but the easy to understand and simplification you have made for some animation qualities are just amazing! I actually look into getting into animation one day, so these are a god send!!!
1:01 I learned a lot from watching the full tutorial video even though I'm not trying 3d animation anytime soon. It was fun to watch compared with most tutorials I see! Especially when your character was on screen and not just Gimberly. It made the video feel like someone's was teaching you and not just reading a script. I loved every second of it!
As someone who only recently found your channel through the “animating arms” video. Gimberly was an absolute delight! She truly does everything you set out for her to do, both the adding personality aspect but also the demonstration aspect. And I can guarantee you, all the other people who find your channel will feel the same way once they see the unique dynamic between Doodley and Gimberly. Keep up the great work, can’t wait to see more of you and Gimberly. 👍
I can't wait for tonight's stream! Gimberly's design is really appealing to look at! And making a version where we can actually practice and refine our animation skills is really awesome! Even though it'll take a while until it happens. I'm super hyped for it! 😊❤️
I know very little about the workings of Maya from uni, but having a model like Gimberly would have been so fun to use in a project! I'm sure her release will absolutely hit the ground running, her design is extremely fun!
Even though I have no formal education in any animation, I immediately knew how much effort went into Gimberly’s design. From the red and blue separation of right and left to the fun XYZ hairpin. It’s a great character.
I'm so glad I found this channel. Animation (3d, 2d, and everything in between) has always fascinated me but I've never took the plunge to actually try it since getting the necessary resources seems a bit daunting. Watching a few of your videos has inspired me, and knowing that you're willing to let people use Gimberly for practice is so nice! As soon as you started going into her design inspiration I instantly wondered what it would look like to animate her on a balance beam, doing simple gymnastics maneuvers since her outfit also looks like a gymnast's leotard.
I've always been more of a fan of story rather than visuals, so I can't help but think of Gimberly and Doodley as characters who are just best buds. That being said, I've never fallen in love with an animation channel as fast as this one. You can really tell that this channel is made entirely out of the hope to teach about animation, and it's making me want to try it out.
Unsure how feasible it would be, but if her hair tie was for sale I would totally buy one. I love how it looks and it would just be cool in general. Loving the uploads! You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs already.
YES, to be honest I have a short list of "dream merch" and that hair tie is on there! I'll figure it out myself with my 3D printer if I have to. And thank you!
The face she made when you showed all her layers, was so perfect! You are really great at getting emotion across, even when you wouldn't think there would be emotion!
@@doodley3d haha you fell into my trap card with uno reverse going to capture on d4! But seriously thanks for replying and also that comment was designed for you to reply so ha
This is like my first or second video I'm watching of yours. But I already love the channel. Gimberly is super cute and it's simplistic design really makes her stand out. It kinda reminds me of Jenny from My Life as a Teenage Robot in a way. Seeing a few other videos, and she has a lot of charm. Interacting with the surrounding UI or stretching her neck after doing a T-pose really gives her a lively character. Looking forward watching more of her!
Oh you know EXACTLY what I'm thinking But in all seriousness, thank you. I'm in a Game Art University and one thing I didn't expect was to do 3D models (makes sense honestly), so your videos will be VERY useful to me when we have to rig (and definitely more stuff), THANKS! ^^
I love your little Vtuber. Its got a nice real time movement contrast to the carefully animated stuff that gives off a "Hey this is more casual content" vibe
I know you've probably gotten a thousand comments like this one, but I really enjoy that you decided to have Gimberly react as a person, rather than just being a puppet for demonstrating 3D concepts. Like... how she hears you talking about her ponytail, does a silent "oh!", and turns to show said ponytail. Or how (at 3:44), she twirls into position in the lineup of her previous model iterations. Or in the arms video, where she demonstrates her hand being stuck in place by pulling on it. I love all of those little details. And I love how those little bits make her feel more like a friend who's helping her ol' pal Doodley. Because, y'know, she is! :)
I adore how simple yet informative and welcoming your videos have been. Im that kid who always watches the special features of every movie i get my hands on, just to see all the aspects on how there made, and it always amazes me on how much work goes into something as making an object move or an art style. Even tho i have no plans on becoming a 3D animator, ill still watch all your content because of how fun and inspiring they all are UvU
I can very much see you becoming an amazing source for people trying to learn 3d animation stuff, particularly for newcomers trying out for the first time. These videos are so fun, expressive and simple to understand and learn from that I can see so much more and I really hope that happens
I love how this is so down to earth yet so advanced in its concepts. Its simple but effective and oozes personality. I love this channel and hope more people notice it
Welp, the design fits the purpose fantastically. It is really catchy and communicates the "tutorial"/teaching aspect very well. So I'd say you accomplished what you wanted perfectly. Thank you for getting me inspired to learn more about animation 👍
I love the detail on how disturbed Gimberly looks at 4:01 when her textures are laid out. Like imagine if god showed up and presented your rolled out and flattened skin in front of you and an invisible audience as part of an explanation on how they created humans. I'd be pretty disturbed too in Gimberly's place.
I randomly got recommended this video and only clicked because I liked Gimberly’s design. Best decision I have ever made. I like just about every aspect of this video. It’s done really well. I guess I am now along for whatever content you post.
Hey, I just wanted to say, I plan on becoming an indie game developer. I'm currently working on a 2D JRPG, but plan on branching out into more 3D work once I'm more comfortable with the basics and after I have at least 1 little project under my belt. Even for a person like me, that isn't yet working on a 3D game, your work is incredible and so fun to watch. Most of the tutorials I need for programming are great in their own right, but nothing comes CLOSE to the quality of your animation tutorials. Almost every one of your videos that I've watched, I still remember every last detail because they're just that entertaining. Sorry for the rambling, but I just want to say keep up the great work with your content, it's all top tier stuff! :D
i find ur videos much more different than other animators, the music and the display of the images and videos you show us makes it more interesting or maybe the way you talk calmly but in a way that you also understand what you say really easily

Giving some big vsauce vibes. ( In a really good way )
Since you read every comment, I wanted to let you know your that shit is super cool. For as few videos as you have your production quality is OUTSTANDING, it’s kinda inspiring, so thanks man 🙏
Thank you!! That's very nice to hear!!!

Gimberly is such a great character and I love the design so much. Can’t wait to see future lessons on this channel.
Your animation is the most appealing thing I’ve ever seen. Genuinely you’re really underrated and you deserve more attention than you get.
i love how almost everything is monotone to help focus on the good stuff and not overstimulating.
im not interested into animation, but these videos are so entertaining that I cant resist watching them anyway!
Doodley: I do plan on releasing that version of the rig for free. I think it'd be fun to see people practice animation with her.

Character design is one of my passions, and I always love seeing someone else's workflow into making their own character. I like how every design aspect of your character has a purpose as to why it's there, like her red/blue outfit and the hair tie. Designing characters with intentional details like that is what makes the most original character designs imo.
her concept art looks straight out of mario and luigi dream team
Doodley having smaller glasses under his glasses was the biggest reveal of this year.
cool
I can't wait for tonight's stream! Gimberly's design is really appealing to look at! And making a version where we can actually practice and refine our animation skills is really awesome! Even though it'll take a while until it happens. I'm super hyped for it! 😊❤️
I don’t even do any sort of animation or art or anything but these videos are just so captivating and approachable that I wanna watch them all
I love the concept of a character being used to demonstrate animation concepts, while also using the x y and z axis colors for its palette

Shes so cute!! The way she interacts with things is so entertaining to watch. I think it's a very creative design, the ponytail band is really cool!
my favorite part of doodley is him adding memes sometimes and i always laugh no matter what the meme is
I try to be selective about it compared to most UA-camrs so they hit harder!
Now animate her paying taxes.
The stuff you've made has been such a help for me in both 2D and 3D animation, thanks for all your incredible hard work.
"I do plan on releasing her for free"
Doodley, I dont think they're gonna use her for exactly 'educational' purposes...
they are gonna use her for educational purposes, just a different kind of purpose..

Amazing vid! I'm not an animator but your vids are so fun to watch! Makes me think about learning

Gimberly getting jumpscared by her own texture was probably the funniest part of my day so far

Oh you know EXACTLY what I'm thinking
But in all seriousness, thank you.
2:37 gimberly art design remind me alot to mario and luigi dream team artstyle :')
Too bad that they are going bankrupt :(
I know you've probably gotten a thousand comments like this one, but I really enjoy that you decided to have Gimberly react as a person, rather than just being a puppet for demonstrating 3D concepts.
Like... how she hears you talking about her ponytail, does a silent "oh!", and turns to show said ponytail.
I love this channel and hope more people notice it
As a non-animator I can say I stumbled upon your videos and they are as informative as they are interesting and entertaining. Great job :)
First video of you I've seen.
1. Delightful style
2. Great characters
3. Very unique

Just know, if you release the Gimberly model, the internet will show no mercy-
Welp, the design fits the purpose fantastically.

Will it be f2p?

i find ur videos much more different than other animators, the music and the display of the images and videos you show us makes it more interesting or maybe the way you talk calmly but in a way that you also understand what you say really easily
