Can you guys make more top lane guides? I know there are some up on your channel but most are around mid lane (which I get, it's the most popular role in low elo)
The difference is that they'd have to push the wave to get to the tower, whereas at mid minions were already on the tower, probably more than one full wave, so mid tower at 3 shields was in danger, whereas top lane tower which was untouched wasn't in any danger.

I'm really having trouble winning the lane pre 6 as annie and malz. I'm also having trouble harassing them next to tower when I do win because counter ganks don't exist in low plat.
Malz should just be shoving that shit into tower and then backing off, you don't need to harass them under tower. Every time you hard shove that wave, you can potentially roam. and gain an advantage like that. Annie and Malz don't really kill pre 6, so you have to farm and harass. Don't let them farm for free, but don't overextend like a monkey to do 50 dmg.
You should not be staying pushed up on their side of the lane without vision to watch for ganks, anyway. At least ward the pixel brush on one side of the river, then hug that side of the lane -- and be watching the map for where the jungler might appear for a moment, so you know when you have a window of opportunity to be gank-free.
Malz doesnt win lane in most matchups. Play for farm only until 6. From 6 and throughout the entire mid game, he should be very active and dominate the game. His 2 item spike with Liandry's and Rylais is very strong.
