This is my new favourite guitar channel. Great job. Just a note for those out there that India Ink is just acrylic ink so you can substitute any Acrylic Ink for it. I use Meeden Inks. They come as Drawing Inks or Acrylic Inks. Either will work. If you want to experiment you could also try Alcohol Inks, Calligraphy Ink or even Tattoo Ink. Alcohol markers and Soft Pastels would work as well.
Nice work! I love and hate your channel - the hate because its one of those channels that make that voice in my head say, "yeah you should buy a laser cutter and do things like this!". I have enough half finished projects, so I'll just keep watching you do your awesome work ... and tell that voice to shush. :)
Dude! this came out sick af! This channel is frickin awesome man! your creativity in making music and also your guitar making projects is seriously infectious man. Love what you do brotha! 🔥
4:12 Cat! On a more serious note, you have some of the most original and creative guitar building ideas I've seen lately. Bright colors on this particular Durer's work makes it less terrifying, which I'd say is a good thing 😁😁 Also, great playing (as usual).
Dürer is my favorite artist. I have two lithographs of his diptych "The Four Apostles" (1526) made in 1891 at the museum in Germany they're displayed at that I'm having framed. This build just blows my mind. I need to find someone locally that can laser engrave wood like that, I've started building guitars from parts as a hobby and I'd love to do something like this.
Nice execution of an interesting twist on guitar finishing! Maybe clear sanding sealer over the top would offer some long-term protection to the colors. Thanks for posting!
Gustav Dore's work would look sick with this technique- The Empyrean with the circles of angels radiating from between the pickups or some of his illustrations of London in particular would look awesome on guitars I bet
A matte acrylic varnish over the surface might have helped the ink not bead up the way it did, though you did make interesting use of that behavior. Probably mixing in some acrylic medium into the ink too. Try that on some test material that has been treated with that white stain before you try going for the more watercolor wash style on an actual guitar.
Hey Mark thanks again for this awesome video. 2 questions. Do you have a video where you share more info on the Color Engraver you use and the how's and why's about it. Also importantly where do you get the what I assume transparent vectors of your guitar bodies. Thanks. B~
Great job! I've seen this idea with laser before and the stain sometimes bleeds quite badly - is that why you did the initial coat of stain? Also India Ink - that's a water resistant ink I think, maybe it bonds to the stain but doesn't bleed through it?
@MarkGutierrez: First, GREAT vid and work! After the engraving and coloring, did you apply a sealer or a clear topcoat or is the engraved wood left exposed?
Any tips on how you were able to frame or make the image fit the shape of the guitar? Did you put it on the bed and use a camera and trace? Then set an offset for the outside? Nice work
I have a CAD model of a Les Paul. I then export the outline of the body as a .DXF. I import the DXF into Affinity Designer to make a mask. I then resize and move the engraving to fit inside the contour of the body. Once it's done I export the image from Affinity Designer and drop it into Lightburn to trace and convert into vector lines. In light burn, I have a center line so I know where the center is. I mark the center line on the physical body. Then align everything on the laser bed. Lots of steps, I know.
Intrigued. As soon as the video kicked off I thought um I'm getting one of those...the printer not a Fesley. I'm commenting because my 1st question was- I wonder what software I can use... Saw you open Affinity Designer and was like Hell yeah! I been using Affinity since like version 1.0 to design tshirts.. Now I gotta figure out how to afford a new toy so I can make some awesome custom guitars. I've built, well actually assembled several kits and this is so cool. Right now I'm just starting a GKW kramer 84 style kit like VH's famous Baretta and managed to snag one before they switched the kit to the claw version of the headstock...
Also Martin’s India Ink, I am pretty sure aren’t watercolors. Once dry they should not reactivate when you go over them with a second color allowing for really cool layering
Hum... I am not that big fan of the colors. To me, the body without painting make the printing more realistic. Of course, this is just my two pence. Great job, anyway
Thanks for sending over the kit, Fesley!
Thank you for letting it have life!❤❤
Thank you for the thank yous.

Another awesome work of art from you, Mark! Keep up the good work, and stay creative with these sponsored guitars you're getting sent! \m/

Fantastic as always 👏🏻
Very impressed! As always, creative, inventive, fun to watch
That looks fantastic. Really nice choice of artwork too. Looking forward to more cool ideas. Cheers!

That turned out amazing. You totally earned a like and a sub with this one.

Very creative! Nice job!🎸
You deserve more subs man
that turned out great nice work!
It's so cool! Thank you for creating it!😍😍😍
Another great build. You’re super talented!
Laser+Paint by numbers+kit guitar= awesome art guitar, I think it looks very cool ✌️
I liked it better without the watercolors but I love what you did. Very tastefully done!
Agreed. The black/white plastics options would've been interesting too. Still, great work.
Nice job. I think the vibrant version is what it needed. I really enjoy your videos.
That's awesome Mark
That things awesome and I love your channel dude
The art choice - marvelous
wow this is fantastic!! very inspiring thank you
Your lead playing actually gave me stylistic ideas.
Very cool, Mark. That was a fun watch.
What a cool project, and great results. Thanks
That looks INCREDIBLE
Beauty! Congratulations.

This is beautiful.
Wow! Really impressive!
I love your love of reverb.
Absolutely beautiful
AWESOME !!!!

Great shirt!
THAT IS BADASS !!
wow, if you ever decide to do this as biz I might send you a guitar or two. Amazing!!
Bad ass! Man you’re gonna be the one to convince me to get a laser
Wow, a Durer I actually like....
Awesome and inspiring project. 😊👍
What caused the vertical banding in the laser etching? 🤔
wow awesome job.
Your shop must be in a library

This came out fantastic, I would try to avoid the neck pocket its crucial to have max contact in this area. Awesome idea.
Looks great, Mark. Nice attention to detail. Did you apply a clear coat after coloring?
Hi, Thanks. No, no clear coat. The India ink stated that it was waterproof. I figured that was good enough for the video and demo.
You really need to get experimenting with combining laser engraving with your previous experiment with Direct to Film (DTF) printing!
Not too shabby... 😊
Amazing results!
Did you seal it?
PS
It’s great to hear a builder who can play more than a couple chords 😁
that flame really popped after you put the stain on it

@MarkGutierrez: First, GREAT vid and work! After the engraving and coloring, did you apply a sealer or a clear topcoat or is the engraved wood left exposed?
Hi, I didn't apply a sealer or topcoat. The engraved wood is exposed. The original top was already sealed and the India ink I used are waterproof.
Sweet

@@MarkGutierrez Fancy stuff.. thanks!

No clear coat or anything to stabilize it?
Why would they seal a flamed maple top??
But but but... How did it influence... sustain?
I would love a tele body with The Great Wave Off Kanagawa
Also Martin’s India Ink, I am pretty sure aren’t watercolors. Once dry they should not reactivate when you go over them with a second color allowing for really cool layering
You should start posting your stuff for sale
Really nice work. The guitar looks much more expensive with the art work.
Sick
I would sell my soul for a lazer engraver.😂
Which engraver did you use?
Algo 20 watt
um-- no sealing? Topcoat? Nothing?
It has a very "Grateful Dead" look to it. It's a shame that kit comes pre-sealed.
The color ruined it for me man, aint gonna lie.. The black and grey was awesome as it was,
Hum... I am not that big fan of the colors. To me, the body without painting make the printing more realistic. Of course, this is just my two pence. Great job, anyway
sometimes less is more. it looked better b&w
The idea was good, but the execution is awful
Bolt on les paul... yuck
