Based on the RNG I have seen from his videos, Werster seems like the kind of guy that would flip a coin and manage to get it to land on the rim consecutively.
Mekronid pokemon RNG works on a frame-by-frame basis (though grouped sometimes) so doing the exact same sequence twice without framecounting is exceptionally improbable
@Mekronid what I meant that in emerald the RNG frames start from 0 when you turn on the game, always (which is why speed runners reset to get a mudkip with the right nature), unlike in Ruby and Sapphire where the frame counter always goes up and encountering the same frame twice in the same place is probably one in trillions chance if not higher

I honestly have no idea what made me decide to walk in that direction under the bridge but man, I remember this overwhelming feeling when I made it to Mauwile City and seeing all my horizons expand.
@@Koenig_Luiz dude calm down the commenter wasn't talking about speedrunning they were talking about general gen 3-4 playthroughs, you're giving the community a bad name
4 easy steps to beating Whitney, Step 1: Catch a Drowzee Step 2: Trade for Machop Step 3: Karate Chop (Swap to Low Kick for Miltank in HG & SS) Step 4: Repeat step 3 Not the speedrun strat, but still, I dunno why people complain about that match so much
Better and quicker strat, but a little harder to pull off Spam smokescreen with quilava till it can barely hit you. Then you can easily hit it with ease if it cant hit you. Or just pick Totodile, alot easier
Whitney isn't that hard when speed running. And even playing normally with a team of 6 weak Pokes it's not that difficult, you just have to use status moves rather than actually attacking it. Use String Shot, Scary Face, Stun Spore, Thunder Wave (so the rest of your team outspeeds), then use Sand Attack, Smokescreen, Flash (you get the HM), Growl, Charm (Togepi), Leer, Tail Whip, Leech Seed, Poison Powder, Poison Sting, Supersonic, etc. If you have a team of 6 you will have at least SOME of those moves. Then it's quite easy. Even just one Growl makes the Miltank so much easier. I usually have 6 L12-L15 at that point and I usually can win without having to spam items, the L.20 Miltank seems more like a L.12 Sentret when you've used Growl and Tail Whip a few times. I find Claire the hardest in Gold and Crystal usually. That's the only gym leader where I usually need to spam Revives, if I'm using a full team of 6 they're usually about L.33 around then so the Kingdra OHKOs a lot. But surely some of the battles in Pokemon Stadium are harder than this May fight? Some of the Pika Cup Round 2 battles seem almost impossible.
Almost 6 years amd 2292 comments existing here later.. i have to say it is just funny how people called Werster bad at pokemon. "Everything is RNG" and "why not grind some more levels" oh god.... finding out what startingpokemon is the best with what attacks and when to buy and use the x-items, potions etc. is pure strategic. For everyone who does not understand how speedruns work in pokemon, i will explain: You play the game about hundrets or thousands of times making as closely as possible 0 mistakes (wrong or slow movement, wrong decisions, misscalculating damage are all mistakes) and get after this many tries a new worldrecord (or not). It's the same at any game with at least 2 speedrunners competing for the wr. Good example is smb1 any% , they try SO hard for the world record, having thousands over thousands of runs. And you want to say there is no luck in that game? As example a player has to do a jump in smb just with a 1 frame window and his successrate is like 15%, getting that jump in your actually best run is luck whatever you want to say. Nobody can always react perfectly to a 1/60 of a a second thing. Its like clapping a fly, sometimes you do sometimes you don't. Accept the fact that everything in our life is luckbased, even where you were born or what kind of parents you have, if you got a brother, a sister or you are alone. Basing a speedrun being bad because it's lucky is the same to say YOUR life is bad because you got born.
Lol that's one of the hardest fights in the game period. RSE have the hardest fights in the game, and the top four are: 4. Liza/Tate with Blaziken 3. Wattson with Grovyle 2. Wiona, period. 1. This. And those are probably the four hardest fights in any pokemon game, except for stuff like the battle frontier.
I've never had trouble with Winona. I always have a water type on my team and they usually have ice beam by then, if not then i'd have a pokemon with thunderbolt. Everything else you listed is a bitch and a half. Goddamn Wattson.
4nto418 It's best with Torchic as the starter. Then, get Lotad because he can learn a lot of water/grass moves, and others. He's also grass/water type :P Then, get Tentacool. He's a water/poison type and learns great moves. Make sure to Sludge Bomb. They start off weak, but by the end, OP as hell with the right moves.
Amazing vid! From a mathematician's point of view, this fight is crazy. I just did some calcs, and i estimated a probability of about 21% that this fight will succeed. Fucking insane!
Fighting May 2 casually with Mudkip starter is also fucking insane, cause how the fuck are you supposed to kill that Grovyle? The only good super effective mon at this point is Tailow but he's really frail and Grovyle will be faster and just Pursuit + Quick Attack you to oblivion.
I remember I got stuck on that fight when I was like 8. I thought I was just stupid and bad. Though I never got stuck on it again. Now I feel better knowing that this is subjectively the most difficult fight.

Also why so so many people in comments not get how speedruns work like, what do they think isr faster? Sweeping may with luck or spending 15 minutes training
Welcome to the comment section!
On our menu is:
1) People making jokes about Werster's RNG
2) Werster's Quotes
3) People who don't quite understand speedrunning, but are willing to learn
4) *Parasites with god complexes*
I would like 3), how much will it be?
Why parásites?)
@@keyner1080 probably because they are causing war inside the comment section like how parasites cause war in the host's body
I hate to be that guy, but this is actually May 3. May 2 was optional.
But why would a speedrunner call it that when they never do the optional battle?
U had to be that guy?
Epicness123 In R/S you don’t fight May in Rustboro though this is Emerald
@RPG yes there is, it's just optional
RPGMaster yeah there is moron
Wingull: *Rawr OvO
Werster: "AAAAAH! THE HORROR!"
May: So how about a little battle?
Me: *ohgodno.jpg*
'I'll be faster after the first one.'
'I's attack missed!'
I remember getting stuck at this part of the game when I was a little kid and not because of the fight but because I didn’t realize you could walk under the cycling road bridge so I just kept traveling back and forward between Slateport and Dewford looking for some NPC to help me. I honestly have no idea what made me decide to walk in that direction under the bridge but man, I remember this overwhelming feeling when I made it to Mauwile City and seeing all my horizons expand.
“I should be fine here” final words said moments before disaster
This video is over five years old but if anyone actually played 3rd Gen and 4th Gen, all the Flying and Normal types spam GROWL and TAIL WHIP.
@@Koenig_Luiz dude calm down the commenter wasn't talking about speedrunning they were talking about general gen 3-4 playthroughs, you're giving the community a bad name
0:11 WOAH, you passed all that and two Gim leaders in only 36 seconds? You're really good!!

Everyone : watching Werster struggling to beat May
Me : dancing for 7 Minutes on hoenn trumpets
Werster: EVERYTHING has to go perfectly
Pikasprey: Im just going to keep grinding by throwing myself into this battle over and over
Whitney in G/S/C with her fucking Murdertank.
now i need a milktank to use that name dude
you can easily beatt it up with a pineco lvl 8 with self-destruct and your starter at level 21 :v (croconaw)
4 easy steps to beating Whitney,
Step 1: Catch a Drowzee
Step 2: Trade for Machop
Step 3: Karate Chop (Swap to Low Kick for Miltank in HG & SS)
Step 4: Repeat step 3
Not the speedrun strat, but still, I dunno why people complain about that match so much
Better and quicker strat, but a little harder to pull off
Spam smokescreen with quilava till it can barely hit you.
I completey agree that this is one of the hardest fights in the game, speedrun or not
I didn’t struggle with her like that running through normally. Maybe I train too much.
I swear every single Pokémon that an AI owns secretly holds a Scope Lens or Focus Band
The moment I saw Route 110, I was like... "Yep".
For everyone who does not understand how speedruns work in pokemon, i will explain:
You play the game about hundrets or thousands of times making as closely as possible 0 mistakes (wrong or slow movement, wrong decisions, misscalculating damage are all mistakes) and get after this many tries a new worldrecord (or not).

I do hope people will learn what is a speedrun and what is a casual play
I always caught a gulpin and yawned grovyle lol catching gulpin wasted time though
Lol that's one of the hardest fights in the game period.
RSE have the hardest fights in the game, and the top four are:
4. Liza/Tate with Blaziken
3. Wattson with Grovyle
2. Wiona, period.
1. This.
And those are probably the four hardest fights in any pokemon game, except for stuff like the battle frontier.
man my fav was blaizeken and wattson was pretty easy for me with grovyle
Blaizeken and grovyle are the hardest starters 2 play with in the game
That's why you should keep a water/grass/fire trio as your main pokemons, plus another one with a fancy type for tanking, say steel.
I've never had trouble with Winona. I always have a water type on my team and they usually have ice beam by then, if not then i'd have a pokemon with thunderbolt. Everything else you listed is a bitch and a half. Goddamn Wattson.
Rortikk Wattson is a joke, personally I have trouble with Brawly and Norman. Unless I have a pokemon with Dig, then Norman is a joke.
4nto418 It's best with Torchic as the starter.
Then, get Lotad because he can learn a lot of water/grass moves, and others. He's also grass/water type :P
Then, get Tentacool. He's a water/poison type and learns great moves. Make sure to Sludge Bomb.
They start off weak, but by the end, OP as hell with the right moves.
I come back here every now and then to watch the video again, I don't know why, I feel like I need it.
As they say in the TF2 community, "Random crits are fair and balanced."
Yeah this truly is the hardest fight in any game, even casually.
Amazing vid! From a mathematician's point of view, this fight is crazy. I just did some calcs, and i estimated a probability of about 21% that this fight will succeed. Fucking insane!

do you ever think that lebron watched this video and went "yessir"
Every year on the 2nd of May I take a moment of silence

"May used friendzone"
*it's super effective*
Fighting May 2 casually with Mudkip starter is also fucking insane, cause how the fuck are you supposed to kill that Grovyle? The only good super effective mon at this point is Tailow but he's really frail and Grovyle will be faster and just Pursuit + Quick Attack you to oblivion.
Veiyr Get Good
k
Aron, Gulpin, Beautifly, Dustox, Nincada/Ninjask/Shedinja all work really well against Grovyle and aren't hard to get by this point.
aron is the greatest
Fighting grovyle with the mudkip line is indeed very hard but it saves time in the run overall as its good against many other meaningful oponents

I remember I got stuck on that fight when I was like 8. I thought I was just stupid and bad. Though I never got stuck on it again. Now I feel better knowing that this is subjectively the most difficult fight.
CCKillbilly
It really isn’t difficult, but in a speedrun it’s in a whole new different level.
I AGREE WITH YOU! just a few days ago, I was replaying Pokemon Emerald and was shocked at the difference in difficulty with May compared to trainers in other Pokemon games. Like Jesus... She was a tough one alright...
"I'm going to two-hit with mud shot, and I'll be fine" *mud shot misses*. Werster: ...*sigh*
