Pachirisu is my childhood Pokémon, I adore using it in my Diamond game and watching it in the anime. and to see it being used... in a MASTERS DIVISION competition and winning???!! That is just. AMAZING.
I remember having an insanely high leveled pachirisu, don’t remember what level but I kept it because I wanted to evolve it, although It doesn’t have an evolution it means a lot to me.
Pachirisu has low total stats. But it has a great supporting move pool and combines decent speed with decent defenses and only 1 weakness. Great find by Sejun to get that to work!
I don't do competitive play but it seems like it's easier to do strategy plays in double battles bc there are two members on the field vs single battles where you can't directly support other team members
@@Sheenifier imo singles are simpler for the fact that you're taking into account a 1v1 situation while in 2v2 you need to think of every combination for your team and if it synergizes well
Actually , if sejun met ANY gothitell mawile team , he would have lost , mawile in trick room could destroy is team with no problems , the biggest problem and only problem would be pachrisu and talonflame lead , this would be needed to be solved by rotom-heat , that was almost on every goth maw team back then , simple fake out (from ludicolo or haryiama) and thunderbolt would solve that. Also we got another two pokemon in the back to defeat and distrupt this lead too. It might or might not mattered back then , but actually , bullet punch on gardevoir in game two would have picken up the knock out most of time , sejun just got lucky on the damage roll .... :/ Even Though , im actually happy sejun won this championship , it showed that every pokemon can win with good manouvers and clever strategy... Or if it wouldnt meet the strategy it would be beaten by .... Oh well :/

I saw Se Jun has hatched 1939 eggs, whoa that's some crazy level of patience and hard work. That's a hardcore dedication to get the perfectly balanced pokemon.
Meanwhile, "competetive" players today have less than 100 eggs full shinys and IVs (im not saying they cheated but they did) , and very basic copy paste teams
I shiny hunted in gen 6 and 7 and I believe I have more eggs hatched than that lol. You can hatch 20 pokemon in like 10 minutes in gen 7. Idk in gen 8 I didn't play competitive because most of my favorite pokemon aren't in swsh.

It wasn't just luck that won an 18-year-old kid from South Korea the day. It was his knowledge of the game's mechanics and a strategy worthy of Athena that allowed him to win the champion's belt with a Pachirisu. Sejun Park really was one smart cookie, and there's a reason why he was invited to host the following year's tournament
if it wasn't for that crit, the rotom would have survived at about 30 ps. His next move was probably sharp leaves, which targets both pokemons, getting a double K.o since it woulda crit due to the item rotom holds. Then it would be a one on one rotom vs slowpoke, and the speed of rotom would allow it to win.
Just goes to show, dont ever ever EVER underestimate a pokemon just because its not in the Uber, OU, or even the UU tiers! EVERY pokemon has potential. You just gotta show it.
So when are people going to notice that Park's team was well constructed and it wasn't just Pachirisu doing the work? Every part of the team was necessary for the strategy to work. Its a counter Meta team and it was beautifully built and it pains me that people that don't know shit and don't even pay attention to that just use Pachirisu as an excuse to shit on tiers that don't have anything to do with doubles...
I'm so happy someone said it. Pachirusu was strictly a support, and Se Juns entire team is the reason it all works well. Pachirisu will not do well in singles at all, because it's only a support.
You're right, of course. I know I just liked the fact that he didn't pull the same boring old going along with the meta shit that everyone does these days.
Spenigat Mancer Pokemon is an RPG. Though, it doesn't matter what the genre is, it's all about "How can I take this character, and make him/her work." I'm not a competitive pokemon player, (even though I want to get into it), but I can see Pachirisu isn't a very popular competitive Pokemon. However, I think this video shows that you can make any Pokemon viable. It just takes a good trainer.
Yagi Not really, when a set up gyarados is what your team is built around, it makes sense to have a pokemon that either resists electric type moves, or actively benefits from it. Out of all the volt absorb pokes there were in the XY metagame Pachirisu easily had was the best poke for his team as it had the most utility. It's not like he used a shit pokemon and made it work, as someone already said, there was a role to be filled, and it just turned out that the bulky squirrel from hell fit it well :)
Stephon Zeno The struggle in describing what you are saying. If I'm correct, why you are saying is like when you have an a crap pilot in an airplane; even if it is the best airplane in the world, any plane can become a threat with a good pilot behind the wheel.
It was a brilliant pick all jokes aside. Pachirisu not only works with the team he built, but its sort of anti meta. Or at least it was. Most teams were running rotom with thunder wave. Gen 6 also gave pachirisu the nuzzle aka better thunder wave. Follow me is a nice tool in doubles, alongside volt absorb you basically have no fear of paralysis while it's out.
Jaricko I know, right? People are discussing a lot about "this probes any pokémon you like can work!" Or "competitive is no place for soft favorites, he doesn't like pachirisu, he likes to win" but I think that what we should be praising here is how clever was the use of pachirisu in the first place! What brought him the victory was at the end, his well thought out strategy, which came after analysing the meta a choosing an odd, yet ideal pokémon for this occasion in particular. I'll say that my favourite move in this pachirisu set would be nuzzle, just because I didn't realize until now that it worked even after taunt since it's technically a physical move! But the whole set was amazingly pulled out here.
i mean you cant bring a magikarp to a battle but you can even use pineco to setup and then whirlwind the heck out of the team with another pokemon like sigilyph
In VGC every Pokemon can be used well, it's just some are used better than others, it is also usually because they are unpopular Pokemon that they get hyped up for the Pachirisu for example, not because it is bad.
I would go in tournaments if there were any near me, and I would use like Cherrim Charizard Shiinotic and some fast fake out mon, as you can't use Zeraora I believe.
BETTAKING unless they’ve changed it I believe mythicals are banned but a maximum of 2 restricted legendaries are allowed. I get people don’t like seeing primals and box legendaries all the time but it’s also nice to see what they’re capable of in a competitive environment since they’re banned from the post game battle tower modes.

TheCanadianWifier the 2015 VGC was a disgrace and 2016 will be awful, judging from all the showdown matches in the tier I've been through. It's all about the primals.
I'm glad he won. It only shows that you don't have to spam Lucario, Charizard, and the same overused crap to win. It's better to go with the unexpected Pokemon, since your opponent will have a hard time guessing your moves.
***** Sorry to break it to you, but that's the doubles lower ladder. Generally, its the new, casual, or bad players sitting around there. The fact that he was using Thuderbolt Gyarados and Aggron, on a pokemon that CLEARLY had Lightning Rod and would have resisted anyways tells a lot about your opponent's skill level.
Spartan Dash I am aware of that. Who says all I do is battle on the low latter? Even so, nobody expects a Plusle with the ability Lighting Rod. Unlike spamming Lucario and Kangaskhan which are easily expected.

I think it's really cute that he is so attached to Pachirisu and the fact he can win with it means what i always think about Pokèmon; play with your favourites pokèmon and try your best, don't focus just on winning and get mad. This is the only way to enjoy this game, in my opinion :)
He said in an interview later that he only chose it because it provided a very specific but fantastic support niche role to his team, not because of some delusional karen mantra.
It's just like Pyritie said. Don't use pokemon and move sets that everyone is using. Use your favorite pokemon and moves to win. And most importantly, have fun.
I feel like Jeudy really could have won this if he wasn't so shocked (pun not intended) about seeing that Pachirisu. Once it came on the field, I feel like he had no idea how to deal with it because it wasn't at all in his plans

uhm dude the gardevoir literally dies after 1 kill but yeah the gardevoir carried the damage dealing capabilities but the pachirisu being able to actually support too well plus that stun from the pachirisu was great
@@sjakierulez That doesn't matter. We're talking about vgc, since you have to choose 4 Pokémon among 6, having 3 weaknesses to ice is not relevant as long as you have more than an answer to it. His team was great and well studied.
+Tyrelle Davenport Talonflame with brave bird on Salamence and garchomp with earth quack or something (i don't know his whole attack set) and tyrannitar is dead. He had no chance to win this.
Smogonbird had priority Brave Bird thanks to Gale Wings, and with Tyranitar in the red and fully paralyzed from the previous turn, it was GG regardless of if Rock Slide missed. That being said, I probably would've given him the full victory and not have forfeited, but I also do understand why he did forfeit and in truth, had he won because of hax, it would've been a hollow victory anyways.
It's to avoid revealing information to your opponent. All that you technically know about your opponent going into the finals is what Pokémon they're using, but not the movesets, items, EV spreads, Hidden Powers, Natures, etc. It allows you to save any surprises you have for games 2 & 3.
...Wait, the other guy had rotom-mow. Here I am only knowing about the pachirisu from hear-say and the opponent had rotom-mow. Everyone going all "ooh see you can use weak pokemon and win blah blah blah" should also give rotom-mow the cred it deserves. I know it isn't as low as pach, but its still lower than the other stuff they're using
I'm really tempted to go and make a competitive Pachirisu in honor of him. To be honest, with the right training, even the weakest Pokemon can rule the world. My congratulations to the champion. :)

Pachirisu is my childhood Pokémon, I adore using it in my Diamond game and watching it in the anime.
and to see it being used... in a MASTERS DIVISION competition and winning???!!
That is just. AMAZING.
I always wanted it to have an evolution.
Samee I fell in love w it cause it was so cool and cute in the anime! I used it in my Diamond playthrough I love it
M. Nourishad I feel so bad that you don’t get to use one in galar hopefully they make it so you can transfer it
I remember having an insanely high leveled pachirisu, don’t remember what level but I kept it because I wanted to evolve it, although It doesn’t have an evolution it means a lot to me.
Three years later... did you ever use it in the Sinnoh reboot? How did you feel, if so?
Pachirisu has low total stats. But it has a great supporting move pool and combines decent speed with decent defenses and only 1 weakness. Great find by Sejun to get that to work!
I don't do competitive play but it seems like it's easier to do strategy plays in double battles bc there are two members on the field vs single battles where you can't directly support other team members
@@Sheenifier imo singles are simpler for the fact that you're taking into account a 1v1 situation while in 2v2 you need to think of every combination for your team and if it synergizes well
Actually kinda tanky, think of it. Not a Blissey at any rate but enough to surprise you
VGC 2014: Pachirisu out of all things
VGC 2015: Landorus, Kangaskhan, Cresselia, Amoonguss...
VGC 2016: Primal Groudon and Xerneas
let's hope 2017 is like 2014 in terms of diversity
Even Though , im actually happy sejun won this championship , it showed that every pokemon can win with good manouvers and clever strategy... Or if it wouldnt meet the strategy it would be beaten by .... Oh well :/
We can only hope Sun and Moon shake things up.
and SM did it, vgc 2017 is the most diverse that I ever have seen in a while

Garchomp: ROCK SLIDE!
Salamence: NOOOOOOOOO!
@@zahhak5571 you know you can improve IVs, change natures, and change abilities in SWSH, right? If I find a shiny I can bottle cap its IVs, capsule its ability, and use a mint for the nature

Because of this... Pachirisu no doubt will get a mega evolution.

A CRITICAL HIT ON THE VERGE OF WINNING
SO INTENSE
Your profile pick suits the comment
if it wasn't for that crit, the rotom would have survived at about 30 ps. His next move was probably sharp leaves, which targets both pokemons, getting a double K.o since it woulda crit due to the item rotom holds. Then it would be a one on one rotom vs slowpoke, and the speed of rotom would allow it to win.

FraN_ he did comment on why he picked Pachirisu, iirc he originally had Amoonguss but switched it up because of Talonflame I'd assume.
we did see pachirisu do half of the hp of morotom tho, that was quite spectacular for a support pokemon
Agreed
I guess it really does show: It's not the pokemon, it's the trainer.
Spenigat Mancer Let me rephrase this into a term I use for fighters: It's the not the Character, it's the Player.
Stephon Zeno It's actually the RNG.
If I'm correct, why you are saying is like when you have an a crap pilot in an airplane; even if it is the best airplane in the world, any plane can become a threat with a good pilot behind the wheel.
imagine losing your game cart on the flight to worlds
i would rather not
I would _cry_ and go home or be one sad salty spectator.
just in case, they probably store the save data on an sd card so that they could just buy a new cart if needed and keep the same data

I don’t know how I ended up here...but DAMN that was intense to watch!

@@entitykai Hi
Leave it to a Korean to make a mediocre Pokemon champion material.
The Ugly Barnacle true 😂 im korean I should know
It was a brilliant pick all jokes aside.
The Ugly Barnacle s

Nope, every pokemon can be used competitively.
Prof. Garchomp
You don't know much about competitive pokemon if you think that.
i mean you cant bring a magikarp to a battle but you can even use pineco to setup and then whirlwind the heck out of the team with another pokemon like sigilyph
I wish VGC could do a championship where you can’t use legendary and mythical Pokémon. Maybe that is why I liked watching this so much.

Sorry to break it to you, but that's the doubles lower ladder. Generally, its the new, casual, or bad players sitting around there. The fact that he was using Thuderbolt Gyarados and Aggron, on a pokemon that CLEARLY had Lightning Rod and would have resisted anyways tells a lot about your opponent's skill level.
