    I don't use herbicides, I live on a creek and have vegetable gardens and fruit trees. I accept it. Thick mulch can help as can in ground barriers. Edit: Thick mulch also cause the tubular's to grow on the ground beneath the mulch making most easier to pull.

    Hi Chad. I live in Central Florida. I have mostly St. Augustine grass but seeing a lot of Dollarweed in the shady areas also other weeds growing sparatically in shade and some in other parts of the yard. It is only about 1000 sq feet lot I am only down here Jan thru April. It is March now. What do you think I should do during this part of the year? Is there anything that can be done later that maybe I can get a neighbor to help do? I want the St. Augustine to fill in some areas where it may have been damaged in the winter before we got here. I saw a video where you recommended black cow and sand so I may do that in the areas where the St. Augustine is more brown? Thank you for any help. Your videos are timed just right so I do not have to watch for more than 20 minutes to understand your main points. I can not find anyone who can do that in youtube to keep it simple but understandable. I just discoved you on here. Keep up the good work.

      Best thing to use is use a 10 10 10 fertilizer in that area. Every 2 months and use avenue south for the weeds. The area might be too shady and will need either the tree trimmed or grass replaced with landscape.

    My St Augustine lawn is plagued by dollar weed and Bermuda (which I consider an invasive weed). The Bermuda is about to overtake the St Augustine in my backyard and, short of digging it all up, i’m afraid I’ve lost the battle. Wondering now whether I should just cut the lawn very short and let the Bermuda do its thing? As far as the nature of my soil - it’s 99% clay - staying wet - not flooded - just wet for days after rainfall.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  6 місяців тому +1

      I like the choice of letting the bermuda doing its thing at this point. You would need to kill it all off and re sod for St.augustine again. You should do annual core aerations if your soil holds moisture and top dress with sand as well.
      I sell lawn kits with the weed controls and instructions to treat the dollar weed. You can email me at turforganics904@gmail.com for more information.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 роки тому

      It may be too much shade. Sunlight is the most important. Also pines are very ascetic and can change the PH. Those two factors will make it very tough to grow grass.

    I used the equivalent to Avenue South (Image southern lawn) that you can find at Lowe’s and had good results. Now that we are having hot days and rain everyday (Orlando-FL) I am debating which professional post emergency to buy, or buy multiples products. I was considering Avenue South + Sedgehammer, now I started to look at Dismiss NXT but looks like it cannot be applied during hot days. I also have seen recommendations to use Celsius, Blindside and heard that there is anew one called Fahrenheit. I have St. Augustine and major problem is Yellow Sedges, torpedo grass, chickweed, Goosegrass, Spurge, broad leaves and a few others. Any experience and tips to apply products during the summer? That would be a great video but I can imagine how busy you are with the recent rain.

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment!!! Torpedo grass and goose grass are not treable weeds. I know people claim some products will and you can stress it but it is much easier to pull the goose grass and re sod where torpedo is.
      Now the best summer mix will be avenue south and sedgehammer. Dismiss is fine too but less forgiving. Stay away from blindside and Celsius in the summer time. Those are winter herbicides only. The best way is to constantly use that avenue south, sedge hammer mix. Get a surfactant to help the product stick. Apply every 2 to 3 weeks only spot treating where active weeds are. Make sure to thicken up the lawn in those areas to help prevent weeds. Sedge is a water weed. If you are having drainage issues that needs to be solved or you will always battle the sedge.
      I hope this helps!! You have done a lot of research and know your products. Make sure to be patient!! These herbicides take up two weeks to see results.

      Read the labels. Do the math on the ingredient concentrations. Image is the best bang for your buck and EFFECTIVE. Don't over do it. For seeding weeds, pull the heads and continue to spray. Spray EARLY in the morning if you want to use Celsius, etc that aren't compatible with high heats during application. Celcius is also quite effective for what it's labeled for.
      Fastest way to get rid of weeds is to control watering and soil nutrition, apply pre-emergent on schedule, pick weeds at the root by hand before mowing, then scout for survivors after mowing, and bag if no time to pick so you aren't leaving or spreading seeds. If you find you haven't the time to pick, then be sure to pull seed heads, but leave the rest of the weed intact so that post-emergent herbicide like "Image", "Celsius", or atrazine can be absorbed by the healthy weed and allowed to properly kill it by translocation through the body and root system (to include tubers, stolons, etc)
      If you can understand the difference between eradication and levels of control, in that context this method also provides great control of bermuda, torpedo, etc. if you pull THOSE grasses and surgically spot treat as applicable where needed with a non-selective herbicide via sponge, q-tip, old toothbrush, narrowed squirt-nozzle (be creative)... you can also try those approaches on dollar and other broadleaf weeds if manufacturer's rate levels of Image/Celcius/atrazine leave any survivors.
      Use pre-emergent on schedule for your whole lawn, but be sure NOT to treat areas of your lawn that don't have weeds when blanket spraying post-emergent, as any herbicide will mildly detract from the health of those areas. In fact, never blanket spray post-emergent unless you just have a yard full of weeds and you're just hitting it for the first few times to establish control.
      It's all about having a sound plan, setting aside the time, and catering to the health and thickness of the turf species you are trying to keep.
      Good Luck

    Chad, what’s the tall, thin, growing vertically grass/weed growing on the edges of my front yard. It almost seems like another type of grass but I feel like it’s a weed. It has some long sideways stolons (but isn’t St. Augustine) in certain areas but for the most past it’s super thing and growing vertically about twice as tall as my St Augustine between cuts. Some would say it’s grass but it’s clearly not St Augustine and, to me, it’s a weed. If I yank it out, I can tell it’s about a racket ball size (or smaller) root that comes out compact that I could easily plant the thing somewhere else if I wanted to. Does that tell you what it likely is? I’m in Ft Lauderdale. If you know what it is from my bland description, how would you remedy? Because it comes out clean my thought is to pull it out and re-sod these areas. I do want to figure out what it is though. Thanks so much!

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  3 роки тому +1

      It sounds like goose grass or Dallas grass. Usually grasses this are not treable. The best thing would be to pull out and sod over the area. Look up the grasses and let me knoe if its either of those.
