- The Chinch Bug can kill a lawn in no time and here is how I treated it. In The Villages Florida many people have St Augustine grass but this little bug can kill anywhere...Texas, Florida, and Maine.

Although it is a minimal amount and costs you not a penny more I am an Amazon Associate, and I earn from qualifying purchases. It helps me pay for the camera and mics etc....
If you get crabgrass, use baking soda 👍🏻 Pest companies can’t use but they will tell you, it works 👍🏻 Also putting sand on your lawn in the spring works magic!
Retiring to The Villages Florida, Frank, has been very successful in treating chinch bugs. He has a couple of videos, before and after, on UA-cam. I think the grass is likely infested when the new lots are sodded.
Thank you for sharing Rusty.
Great information Rusty. Thanks!
Thanks Rusty great information
Thanks, that was very informative!! And just in time to make me aware of some spots in my yard!!
Thanks Rusty for taking your time to research this problem and educating those of us who need it. I think I have chinch bugs!
Get on it now! Thanks for watching and Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
This was very helpful, thank you!
Thank you Rusty. I have a couple of spots in our yard that I think I need to take care of. New sod, so trying not to overdo it.
Keep after it. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
This was awesome information!
I like your favorite sunglasses 😎
Very helpful Rusty thank you. While we don’t live in the Villages right now, this is great information to keep in mind.
More to come. Thanks for watching and Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
After 8 years, We defeated them this year. Cool to find your videos.
Thank you so very very much. This was helpful. I don't live there quite yet, but I know what to look for when we move down there.

Thanks Rusty. We will be buying down there in less than a month. Good info for me to know if/when they hit my yard.
Keep an eye out. Thanks for watching and Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Thanks for sharing this information. I knew something was wrong with our yard besides being new Sod, hot and dry. I called my lawn care company Superior next day they confirmed the bug problem sprayed and will be back two weeks to apply nitrogen fertilizer. I have been told it takes about a year for new lawn to really look decent here in central Florida
Make suie you check for the bugs a couple of weeks out., You may need another application. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Great info!!
Glad it was helpful!
I see your video was posted about a year ago, so, evidently, @ least in some states, according to one of our most trusted, knowledgable plant nurseries in NC, Sevin was removed by government action from the market.
I think that you need to revisit your knowledgeable plant person because this is not true. Sevin is a brand and has many type of products. So to just say Sevin really means nothing like saying Kleenex. The old Sevin used the active ingredient carbaryl, and the concentrate was kind of a thick, white liquid and low odor. The new Sevin uses the active ingredient that is quite popular with commercial vegetable and fruit growers called Mustang Max (active ingredient of zeta-cypermethrin. The stuff I use does not have carbaryl. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
No it isn't I just ordered some last week.
😮 😭😭😭Thanks for the info! I’m so sad. Willis Tx 11,000 sq’ & it’s fast!! & I’m too late 🤯
I use Talek.. liquid form, it is Bifintherin 7.9% Works like a charm..
Thanks
Treat the damaged edges with powder tide soap and hose it well. Was the original treatment back to the late 50s then they showed up in Texas.
I have heard about that. Not sure how it does with the grass. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Good one

I bought my house last summer. Thinking about it now the lawn probably had some chinch bugs. I haven't mowed grass since I was in high school so I used a low height setting without knowing St Augustine should be 3-4 inches high since that is what I did for my parents' yards. I think cutting it too short stressed the grass and allowed the bugs to kill more of my lawn. I ordered some liquid products to do at least 2 treatments before adding sand and soil to encourage St Augustine to grow stolens over the dead areas.
Great video Rusty so important.
Question how often and how long should I water my lawn because I know I have four zones front back of two sides specially, during the 80s 90° for the summer I want to make sure I am watering sufficiently. Thanks again Rusty.
Good video Rusty. I am not fond of St. Augustine grass, but that is what we have. It's less drought resistant than a Bermuda or Zoysia and more susceptible to disease and pests. Are you also treating for the Mushrooms that pop up? I suppose that confirms the existence of a fungus but by treating for that fungus would that undue the positive fungus you mentioned in combating Chinch bugs?
I called dean's last year when i had they them and they came right out and treated
Good to know. I just hired Deans.
Good video. Also Sparr has these little St Augustine plugs you can bury in the bare spots. We have used it a couple times. I actually think there is a grass shortage ai heard. We cannot find the plugs at Sparr or Lowes.
Thanks I;;; have to check into that. interesting. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Just subscribed good info! What’s the wait time between applications? Contact vs contact vs systemic. Thx!!
Rusty
A little off subject. Would it be possible to let me know where you got that end stream robot subscribe button from. My grandson is a UA-camr and interested in using it.
Thanks for all your great content.
I got that a long time ago and it has been greatly modified. If I can track it down I will let you know. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Not sure what to do first. I have many brown and dead spots over all my lawn. My current service provider is disappointing but I'm stuck in a prepaid contract. I'm willing to take on whatever myself to stop the bugs but not sure what steps to do and in what order...
Thanks again, Rusty! I really appreciate the info!! I haven’t even had my closing yet on my new home in Moultrie Creek and the yard looks like it is dying in spots.BTW, why did you purchase the mini spreader instead of a larger one?
I really enjoy the quality of the video and audio as well as the content. I'm not sure if you've answered these questions before. What equipment do you use for the videos? What edit software do you use?
I use canon mk4, Gopro, Various mics, iPhone. I also use All Adobe products. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
If my St Augustine grass lawn looks destroyed (almost destroyed some patches of grass are present ) would you replace the lawn and start over again or would you treat and let grow the patches of grass that are available. I’m in Texas
I notice the cars just fly by you .
I was not driving real fast so maybe that is why. I go about 20...them 30...35. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Hi Rusty. How safe to humans and pets are these products that you’re using on your lawn? Very informative video. 👍🙋🏻♀️
Need to read the labels. All are different and how you apply. Thanks for watching and Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
I like your ideas on treating cinch bugs. Never heard of Merit, I Might try it. The Florida Dept. of Ag has a lot of useful info on this subject. Their extension service can also do a soil test and sod test if you are not shure what is killing your grass.
Yes that is true Larry. I have not tried it yet though. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
What about pets? I have a veranda also and I have it because I let my dogs out to run. Are these harmful to the dogs? If you know. My Massey guy always tells me when he's putting the granular down to keep the dogs in for at least half an hour though I do keep them in longer.
Thanks Rusty, just moving in to Newell. Wondering how you spaced out the four treatments. Hope to see you around town, Joe
First was Feb. The next two in April and then two weeks later came the hose spray. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H

When we cut our grass at 4 inches we sink. This grass doesn't look 4inches. I rather grass I don't sink in so I prefer to mow it shorter. Long grass stresses me out. I could handle this yard.
Will the Triazicide work by itself or do you need all 3 products?
The one will work but if you go back and list...there are a couple of different ways the bugs are attacked. Thanks for watching and good luck.
They killed my back yard
A stone lawn will save you a lot of work 😂😂😂
Pets?????
Read the label. They all talk about that. Thanks for watching and Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Wow. A LOT of chemicals! First, don’t over fertilize. Twice yearly application of a properly proportioned fertilizer (NO weed and feed) is plenty but no more than 3 times a year April through October. Second, please be sure to read, re- read and read again all instructions each time you treat your lawn, and follow them religiously! The Florida aquifer is only a few feet below ground level. Anything not absorbed by plants end up in our water. Only apply chemicals if you don’t use a professional service.
Thanks for the info Cindy. Yes read the label!. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
Great if you don’t have a dog…
Depending on what you are putting down you have to read the instructions. They do address what to do. Thanks fo the note. Subscribe for new Videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H
