    Lyrics:
    I'm leaving the table
    I'm out of the game
    I don't know the people
    In your picture frame
If I ever loved you or no, no
It's a crying shame if I ever loved you
    If I knew your name
    You don't need a lawyer
    I'm not making a claim
    You don't need to surrender
    I'm not taking aim
I don't need a lover, no, no, no
    The wretched beast is tame
    I don't need a lover
    So blow out the flame
    There's nobody missing
    There is no reward
    Little by little
    We're cutting the cord
We're spending the treasure, oh, no, no
    That love cannot afford
I know you can feel it
    The sweetness restored
    I don't need a reason
    For what I became
    I've got these excuses
    They're tired and lame
I don't need a pardon, no, no, no, no, no
There's no one left to blame
    I'm leaving the table
    I'm out of the game
    I'm leaving the table
    I'm out of the game

Many people decry Leonard's songs as "wrist-slashing music". On the contrary, his corpus, music & poetry, is one of the most life-affirming collections in human history.

Then I guess I misinterpret this one, cause it is soul crushing, if you listen to what he's saying. A goodbye to God. Yikes. Makes me want to cry.

      Ah, Leonard,
We, who loved your work, all miss our iconic hero, the genius, and down to earth *erudite, Leonard.😅😅
Such a beautiful light he drew for us, by going deeply into the darkest of days, gifting stirring songs to sing along our journey.
His enchanting voice, pulling us in.
His heuristic lyrics, pulling us through, the emotional nets we became entangled within, to swim free.
      Better angled.
His luminous eyes, and metaphors, added colour, sheen; to the less than ordinary, earthly, months of cloudy mundane disappointment arriving too soon at dawn, upon the heels of the pounding snow and freezing rain.
Oh Canada! Our home and Glorious Land.!
True Patriot love in all our Sons command”.
      A true patriot.
Tunes in uncertain times, when we found ourselves playing tennis without a net, in the fast changing lanes and games 😅😅 again, solo.
When the lyrics made it clear what we were actually, dealing with, and with whom(“ …when he talks like this you don’t know what he’s after…and you say, o.k. the bridge is sometime later…”[‘The Stranger’].
He painted for me, a ubiquitous character hubris, in that aftermath of his, and our, dissolving pain from the inevitable cord cutting of our most cherished or lost relationships:”
😅”Why do you stand by the window, abandoned to beauty and pride…the spear of the age in your bosom…the sword of the night in your side…”demons and saints …”
      Or:
“I loved you in the morning your kisses deep and warm, your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm…”
His, only his, voice, from ‘golden’, to a smoker’s gravel pitch, in later years, adding certain gravitas.
I always thought of his voice as like delicious treacle poured slowly on a piece of coveted fried bread, in the starkest of Canadian Winters ( Mon Paye c’est ne pas mon paye, C’est L’hiver) to warm the embers of the soul.
Expressions, carefully crafted words* uniquely lifted your vibrations at low ebb, rebuilt the spirit up again, by burrowing into the depths; of the universe, at large, or small, with all its own beauty in the debris.
The music, from the self confessed ‘Grocer of Despair’ surpassed all the understanding foiled by the trickery of the common tools and fraud, of the psychiatric trade.
You, the penultimate guide and Master of Despair, who got us up and singing, thought the news is bad.”
Yes, you are gone from our sight Sir,
      Though never, ever, forgotten.
      *erudite
Leonard was extremely well educated with honours.
      * I read somewhere that Leonard would often take up to a day to craft a single word or line.

Why do I still cry when I see you and hear your wonderful voice?? Why does it hurt so much??
I will always regret, my beautiful nightingale, that I never had the chanche to thank you so much for being my compagnion through every stage in my life... I can only write it down again, as I did so many times before: Thanks for the songs, Mr.Cohen..
    Blessed Be;

i share Mr. Cohen’s ‘faith’ in the path he had taken, and from that perspective, if that is of any consolation, i can assure you only his bodily form is gone-the one of his you’ve loved still does exist, like it always has and always will, in you and in the millions of the people who he influenced, changed, whose lives he enriched with his music and the meaning of the message he was and tried to communicate. And it’s not just a figure of speech or a nice metaphor to calm the aching heart. He’s helped you, he re-shaped you or helped you re-shape yourself at some point and in this way he has indeed become ‘immortal’, as you’ve incorporated his thought, his sound, his message as an integral, important part of ‘you’. By that, he’s achieved what he perceived his purpose. And he surely hadn’t feared the inevitability of leaving the table. Have a good day, Althea.

      Dear Kuba;
Thank you SO much for your sweet message, filled with compassion...
Mr. Cohen came into my life when I was 18 years old, the first song I heard was "last years man"...
In that time, he just finished his album:"I'm your man"... And every time something happened in my life or in the world, it seemed if Mr.Cohen saw it much earlier than we.. Do I make any sense???:) You are SO right! As a wiccan raised up with many religions, I really believe that we aren't gone forever when we pass away but that we live forward in other form.. Maybe as a family-spirit, maybe as a helper but we won't disappear..
You know...I think it's just the fact that we couldn't say goodbye when Mr.Cohen passed away.. I wrote a letter of condoleances to his family but I still miss a bit of closure with all his friends and family..
I just owe him so much, you said it so beautiful... He IS immortal, he became a huge part of us... Thank you SO much, my friend! You really helped me, seeing this from another perspective...
      Big hug and blessed Be;

I was impressed .. It is indescribable (I apologize for my English, I don't know if anyone will read this)
I was always afraid of old age, not necessarily death, but old age. I've always hoped to learn and understand as much as possible during my life. Now I understand that there are things that we will be able to fully understand when the time is right. I listened to several interviews with Leonard Cohen and I can't describe the gratitude I felt for it. He worked until the very end, trying to finish some postponed songs, trying to understand life and not staying in the past with his happy memories as many people do (including me). He was one of the people who could be said to be really alive. So much inspiration comes from his life. I belong to people who are still looking for happiness outside themselves and even now I try to understand life through this extraordinary person instead of living my life.
I (as I think many of us) look at some people as "happy" because they lived their lives - they lived. We think they were lucky, but are we really right? I think it wasn't about what these people got, but who they were. They lived their lives, experienced moments of happiness and sadness, and never lived their lives as many of us do in an effort to avoid life falls and suffering. The truth is that each one of us has the opportunity to decide for our response to life. I am grateful for the amount of inspiration and time I could spend thinking about the meaning of the link that Mr. Cohen tried to convey to his listeners.

Thank you Christopher Mills for this video but it does still make me weep every time I watch it and here we are just a week away from the first anniversary of his passing ... and this song is so very poignant. I try to see it in same the light that you explain the making of it, Leonard "celebrating this new journey by dancing around in the clouds, and visiting his old haunts, playing around with all the weird and cool stuff you could probably do, once you ‘cross over’ into another plane". Maybe in time I will but I still miss his presence in the world so very much right now.

It occurs to me, listening to this, a vision of the eternal. David the shepherd king has sought the best with whom to write, to create, to worship, to honor the Lion of the tribe of Judah and his father; a collaborator. And it is with our Leonard the Cohen that the Ruach haKodesh takes great joy answering this quest.
Perhaps there is an Order of Unified Hearts, even if outside the realm of time and space. One thing is sure, we were visited graciously and it wasn’t for nought.

    The wretched beast is tamed.
Exactly! I have reached a point that I don't give one whit about sex.
I would far rather have someone there to just hold me, hug me, caress me, quell my fears, and let me know that they love me as a person until my demise.

I never said anything about “Christianity,” Leonard Cohen was Jewish, he wasn’t a Christian, and spirituality has nothing to do with any specific organized religion

Is this the official music video? A fitting tribute, I could imagine the spirit of Cohen walking through his memories after death while watching this, he left the table, he's out of the game, but the music is still playing on.
